Winter Igniting (Scorpius Syndrome #5) by Rebecca Zanetti-a review

WINTER IGNITING (Scorpius Syndrome #5 ) by Rebecca Zanetti-a review

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / B&N / KOBO / Chapters Indigo /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release date February 20, 2018

His only goal was survival until he met her…

With nothing to lose, former cop Damon Winter agrees to an undercover op, infiltrating a cult in the dangerous post-Scorpius world. After one look at his new partner, he knows she belongs far away from not only the cult, but from him. She’s sweet and kind and has no business being in peril, but she’s determined to help. Suddenly, the part he’s playing as her man explodes into a passion neither of them had expected.

She hadn’t purposefully faced risk until she met him…

April Snyder has survived loss, pain, and uncertainty. Now she’s ready to live again. There’s nothing left but to make a difference for others, so why not go undercover in the cult? Now all she has to do is keep it professional and ignore her handsome, deadly, overbearing partner, who’s too sexy for her peace of mind. Intrigue, risk, and danger make for an irresistible temptation–until enemies close in, threatening everyone they’ve sworn to protect.

•••••••••

REVIEW: WINTER IGNITING is the fifth full-length instalment in Rebecca Zanetti’s adult SCORPIUS SYNDROME cross genre Sci-Fi/ UF/Dystopian series focusing on a biological pandemic sweeping the planet that has already killed 99% of the world’s population. This is former cop and SWAT team member Damon Winter, and April Snyder’s story line. For more background information and some history, there is a prequel novella-SCORPIUS RISING-which can be found in the ON THE HUNT anthology (August 2015), and the author’s new novella companion series The Brigade.

SOME BACKGROUND: Some of those infected with the biological virus have survived to become something known as a Ripper, but there are two types of Rippers inhabiting the world-one is a zombie like creature who feasts on the living; the other is a survivor whose brain has been altered resulting in a stronger, more powerful enhanced human being sometimes bordering on the sociopathic ideology with delusions of grandeur, obsession and hate. If you are a fan of the series The Walking Dead (or Mad Max), you will see many similarities in the story line premise including the search for food and supplies, attacks of the ‘undead’, and various groups of survivors vying for power and control.

Told from several third person perspectives including Damon and April WINTER IGNITING follows several factions of survivors now living in the Vanguard Compound including the arrival of the Mercs (mercenaries), and those not affected by the virus who call themselves the Pure; and the ongoing war for survival against the self-proclaimed president of the United States Bret Atherton, and his Elite Force of soldiers. Damon Winter former SWAT team member in the ‘before’ has been tasked to go undercover with one of the other women who has not been affected by the virus, a woman who has lost much more than most. Enter April Snyder, the woman with whom Damon will fall in love but not before battling for his own life, and the life of his friend, as the Mercs and the soldiers from Vanguard stumble upon more trouble as they search for information and supplies at one of the hidden Bunkers. What ensues is the acrimonious relationship between Damon and April, and the potential fall-out when a suspected traitor begins to take down the compound one explosion at a time.

April Snyder has no plans to fall in love but pretending to be in a relationship with Damon Winter has our heroine conflicted about her feelings and emotions as it pertains to the man in question. Damon is an over protective, alpha male who isn’t willing to risk April’s life including the possibility that the Pure are hoping to entice our heroine to the other side.

The relationship between April and Damon begins as an undercover assignment wherein our couple must gather as much information at the secret society known as the Pure. Believing the members to be part of a cult, April and Damon must report back what they find while keeping up the ruse of having fallen in love. The $ex scenes are intimate and intense; Damon keeps threatening to spank April for defying his orders, and setting out on her own.

There is a very large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Tace and Sami (Justice Ascending), Vivi and Raze (Shadow Falling), Lynn and Jax (Mercury Striking), Greyson and Maureen (Storm Gathering), Marcus and Dr. Penelope; and little Lena, a young girl who refuses to speak but says more with her actions and little gifts that she finds. There is a large contingent of men, women, and children seeking refuge with the Pure including their leader Pastor Zachary King, and his assistant Sharon Matson . The requisite evil has many faces including the gang known as the Twenty, the Scorpius Virus, President Bret Atherton, and his new VP Jerome Blankenship. Marcus and Penny’s story line is next in KNIGHT AWAKENING.

WINTER IGNITING is a fast paced, energetic, and suspenseful story line with spirited and courageous characters; a complex and fascinating look at a post-apocalyptic future where the survivors are at war with themselves. The premise is intriguing and electrifying; the characters are playful, captivating, inspiring and tragic; the romance is seductive and emotional. Rebecca Zanetti’s SCORPIUS SYNDROME is a thrilling and exciting series you do not want to miss.

Hunter by Eden Summers-Review Tour & Giveaway

HUNTER by Eden Summers-Review Tour & Giveaway

Amazon.com / Amazon Paper/ Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk / Amazon.au /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date February 27, 2018

The hunter has become the hunted.

I’ve been running for ten years—fleeing my past and clawing my way toward an inescapable act of vengeance. Finally, I can taste revenge on the tip of my tongue.

Until he walks into my life, sure and strong and full of secrets.

He dilutes my thirst for retribution with his touch. He obliterates my need for solitude with his kiss. But it’s his hidden agenda that makes the hair on the back of my neck prickle.

He wants something. Something that doesn’t revolve around sweaty skin and tangled silk sheets like he’d have me believe.

I have to stop falling for him, otherwise the last ten years will all be for nothing. I need to keep running, keep fighting for vengeance, even though I know he will track me down.

But trying to escape him is just another problem. Because now I crave the hunt.

•••••••••

REVIEW:  HUNTER by Eden Summers is a contemporary, adult, stand alone, erotic, romantic suspense story line focusing on revenge, betrayal and power. This is ‘contractor’ Luke Hunter, and Sarah Carmichael’s story line.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Sarah and Luke) HUNTER follows Steph, aka Emma, aka Sarah as she goes in search of the man that destroyed her life and her family, ten years earlier. What Sarah never expected was to come face to face with a man who is desperate to find out what our heroine knows in order to protect her from herself and from the man in charge. What ensues is the back and forth, antagonistic relationship between Sarah and Hunter, and the fall-out as Sarah must face down a man more powerful than she could have imagined.

Sarah has no idea the can of worms she has upended in her attempt to take down the man that shattered her life but finding the man brings her up close and personal with the darker side of vengeance. Hunter is a contractor whose target is the woman with whom he will fall in love but a woman searching for the same thing as our story line hero. Vigilante justice or an avenging angel, Sarah knows only that she must exact and impose her own form of punishment against a killer who shows no remorse for the things he has done.

HUNTER is fast paced, action packed story of retribution and vengeance: of one woman’s need to avenge the deaths of the people she loved, and one man desperate to protect the bull-headed woman with whom he has fallen in love. The premise is intriguing and entertaining; the characters are colorful, hardened and charismatic; the romance is erotic and intense but, once again, I take issue with a certain four –letter word that holds no place in a romantic story line of any genre. HUNTER is a raw, gritty, dark and engrossing story that will capture your imagination. I hope the author has plans for some of the secondary characters including Decker and Torian.

With one catastrophe after another, can I come back from the disaster that is my life and find my happily ever after?
She makes it hard to breathe, but am I enough for her to take another breath?

•••••••••

REVIEW: Breathe is book two in The Luminous Series by K.E. Osborn.

This book continues you on the journey of Mercs and Effa that we read about in book one.

It does not skip a beat and continues the riveting conclusion of the cliffhanger we were left with in Pulse.
From the first word you are completely in it!

This book begins with Mercs desperately trying to save Effa’s life.

Effa has been drugged by an obsessive peer. And Effa was on the brink of life and death when Mercs found her.
Your heart will speed up, your breath will quicken as you read his desperate attempt to save her life.
My heart broke… He needs her. He needs her in his life and will do anything for her to be alright!

The agony that he felt in that moment is absolutely palpable.

Will Effa make a full recovery? What will happen if she doesn’t?

This book is a wonderful continuation of the relationship of Mercs and Effa. Yes it is based on a rock star, but it is so much more than that! And it is deep, moving, current and emotional.

The depth of the relationships of not only Mercs and Effa, but all of the sub-characters is amazing!

The book continue’s with Merc’s sister Kiera’s cancer battle. And the treatment she needs is expensive and the family just does not have the means. A decision Mercs made in the first book is back to haunt him. And as he battles to figure out how to deal with his past and overcome his past mistakes. You wonder why his pride keeps him from telling Effa what is going on. It’s a trying moment in their relationship and will prove whether they can overcome his prideful reasons.

Wonderfully written. Emotionally turbulent! I cried, laughed and ran the gamut of emotions with this one! I look forward to the stories continuing! A must read for all romance fans.

Playing House by Amy Andrews – a Review

Playing House by Amy Andrews – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / BAM / Book Depository

Description:
Eleanor is content with her boring life—mostly. She’s even fine being the quirky sister in a bevy of beauties. So imagine her surprise when one of her brother’s Sydney Smoke mates hits on her at an engagement party. Her. The weird sister, who wears vintage dresses and prefers her books to parties.

Bodie is shocked the next morning to find the soft, sexy virgin who seduced him with corsets is his best friend’s little sister. And two months later, she’s got an even bigger surprise for him. Now he needs to convince the corset-loving wallflower that he loves her uniqueness if they’ve got a chance at forever.

Review;

Playing House by Amy Andrews is part of her Sydney Smoke Rugby series and I really enjoyed it.  As this is only the second book in the series I’ve had the chance to read, I feel I really should go back and read the previous ones now thanks to the creative writing and story telling of Miss Andrews.  I liked the overall plotline, the characters, and pace of the story.  Even though it was a quick read, I felt events moved along at a good pace and didn’t rush the characters through their adventure.  Her character development for Eleanor and Bodie is nicely paced, allows the reader to get to know them, what makes them click and why they are drawn to each other.

Eleanor is quite the quirky character and just made me smile.  I loved that she went by the beat of her own drum and followed her own heart and interests in life. She didn’t let life dictate to her, she created her own life, one that she was comfortable and happy with.  Sure she liked the Victorian era of things; clothing, romance and relationships etc, but she made it work for her, and that’s all that mattered where she’s concerned until she meets the dashing and debonair Bodie.

Bodie plays on her brother’s rugby team the Sydney Smoke.  He’s your typical athlete, buff, macho, charming, and sexy as all get out.  I really, really liked Bodie, and just wish I could’ve heard his Aussie accent, as I love a good Aussie accent on a sexy guy 😉 We learn about Bodie’s bad experience where love was concerned and how he has since sworn off it until he meets Eleanor at her brother’s engagement party.  Poor Bodie doesn’t know she’s the sister of his best friend and teammate Ryder when he goes to talk to her, and Eleanor doesn’t tell him that fact, instead she gives him a fake name and the two of them hit it off and sparks fly.  The chemistry between Eleanor and Bodie is there from the beginning and continues to burn throughout the story.  They are two characters who just clicked from the first meeting and made their adventure fun, flirty, sexy and just darn right adorable.  Even with Eleanor’s quirks and love of all things Victorian, Bodie can’t help being attracted to her and all that she loves.  It’s just sweet watching them fall for each other and figure out how they will deal with becoming parents after their one steamy night together.  I was sad for them when Eleanor had the miscarriage, but I couldn’t help but hope somehow they’d find a way to stay together and have the HEA both of them deserve.  The scene where Bodie goes to Eleanor’s family home to convince her he loves her, and wants to marry her couldn’t have been more perfectly written for her character, and had me cheering Bodie on.  It was just the perfect ending to their fairy tale romance.  Bravo Miss Andrews, bravo for that scene.

If you haven’t had the chance to read any of the Sydney Smoke series by Miss Andrews what are you waiting for??  Get on it already, trust me you won’t be disappointed.  I know I’m not.

Until next time, happy reading everyone!!
