 Review:

In Legacy Found by Jillian David, finally …. Kerr gets his book? he is brother to Garrison and Vaughn, and twin to Shelby (each have their own books.) They are the Taggart family and they own a ranch.

We start the book with a flash back, to when Kerr was in the army, we see the accident that alters Kerr’s life forever. He’s been bitter and angry for a long time. But seeing his siblings find love, Kerr wants that, and he knows exactly where to find it …..

Izzy is a Brand, but the Taggart’s and the Brand’s aren’t friends, in fact Izzy’s family have been trying to gain the Taggart’s ranch by any means necessary (including trying to kill a few of the family) Izzy isn’t like that, and she’s had enough, she’s sees an opportunity and informs Kerr and his family what her brothers are up to!!!

Seizing the chance, Kerr makes his intentions plain for Izzy. He will protect Izzy, don’t let the fact he’s got a prosthetic leg fool you into thinking he isn’t capable, he is and he will prove it to Izzy any way he can.

Each sibling had a unique quality/power that is theirs to own and control. Garrison can detect lies, Shelby can find anyone, anywhere and can see into the future, Vaughn has a built in danger and protection radar (it lets him know when bad things will happen to him) and Kerr has a psychic link to his twin and has the ability of knowing when danger will strike and how to combat it.

Now for those who have read the other books in this series (and to get the full story I think they need to be read in order) you’ll know there are forces controlling what’s going on. And each Taggart sibling has had to do battle in one form or another, and Kerr and Izzy are no exception. In fact because of Izzy telling the Taggart family what her family are planning, the evil stalking Kerr and his siblings turns its gaze upon Izzy, and now she’s in big trouble.

I’ve really enjoyed these books, there is the right amount steamy scenes (so many authors have pages and pages and pages of it?) and plenty of action and adventure thrown in.

So will the Kerr and the Taggart family win against the evil stalking them? And how will Izzy cope if Kerr has to kill her brothers?

Nothing could make him stay where he no longer fits in.

Fresh out of residency and looking to escape a darkened past, Mariah West has her hands full with a new practice in a rural hospital. Forever underfoot and brazenly challenging her care of his sister, the powerfully muscled Vaughn Taggart racks her nerves and arouses her body.

Now, Mariah and Vaughn must move beyond their pasts and unite to defeat the intensifying evil targeting the Taggart family–an evil that mortals can neither imagine nor fight.

Review:

Yes !!! Finally !! We get Vaughn’s story ?

Legacy of Danger by Jillian David is Book 3 in her Hell’s Valley Series. I’ve read the brother’s story ( Garrett in legacy of lies ) and the sisters story ( Shelby in legacy lost) And always wondered about Vaughn.

Let’s dive in shall we ……

Vaughn is the big brother to Garrett, Kerr and Shelby. He’s had a huge burden on his shoulders for a few years, and it’s slowly eaten away at him, but his family need him, so he’s going back to a place he swore he never return to.

Coming home after a frantic call from his sister he’s faced with demons (both figuratively and actual demons) and a torn up sister.

Vaughn has powers like his siblings (Garret can detect lies, Shelby can see into the future and find anyone, and anywhere. Kerr is Shelby’s twin, so they also share a link.
He knows when danger is coming and knows how to defend against it.

There is also the ongoing battle with the Brand Ranch, it’s one of the brothers from that ranch who summoned a demon. The Brand ranch want the Taggart land, and by any means necessary.

So …… Vaughn rescues his sister and their friend (Eric) from a fall and comes face to face with the demon who wants Shelby. He manages to beat the demon back, taking both Shelby and Eric to hospital. There he meets Mariah …..

Mariah has come to Wyoming as an intern, the quiet rural hospital seems the best place to forget her past. But when she meets bossy and unmoving Taggart brother to Shelby, she realizes that maybe she should have chosen another town.

The story has them fighting their own demons and helping each other as well. Vaughn needs to be forgiven for past mistakes, but to also forgive himself, not to be so hard on himself.

The secrets that Mariah brings with her, will she be able to let them go and move on ?
What about the demon ? What does he want with the Taggart family?
Will the neighbouring ranch ever leave them alone ?

And will Kerr get his story ? ? I do hope so.

Description:
he melding of the contemporary western with paranormal elements—think Big Valley meets Alphas—makes for a compelling, fresh mix for Jillian David’s sophomore series.

Growing up as an honorary Taggart, Eric Patterson found the family he’d always wanted. Almost. He couldn’t ever manage to see the clan’s youngest and only daughter, stubborn spitfire Shelby, quite like a little sister. Suddenly, his long-suppressed feelings are determined to come to light.

Too bad Shelby’s cursed. Her double whammy psychic powers to read emotions and locate anyone anywhere have always made relationships impossible—and now they’ve begun to endanger her life. If she uses her echolocation skills again, it just might kill her.

But when a malevolent supernatural force invades the valley, threatening the Taggarts and their neighbors, the Brands, Eric and Shelby must contend with both their blossoming feelings and the increasing danger. Does Shelby dare risk using her powers one more time, sacrificing her own life to save Eric?

Review:

Legacy Lost by Jillian David is the 2nd book in her Hell’s Valley series.  This can be read without reading the first book ( Legacy of Lies), but as there are characters from the first book, and an underline story going on, I would recommend you read the first book first.

Legacy Lost is set a few weeks after the last book. I won’t give any details away, but it does explain a few things in this book.

Shelby has a gift, she calls it a curse, she has the ability to “find” people, she is able to locate anyone, so it’s a great help in her second job, a search and rescue member. But this “gift” has a price, with it comes terrible headaches and more recently temporary blindness! But it doesn’t stop Shelby from using it. And in addition she has the ability to feel people’s emotions ! So Shelby tends to keep to herself, relationships for her are too painful, to feel her partners feelings, their regrets and heaven forbid, if it was a horrible experience for him, she would get all those feelings.

All Eric has wanted since his family left him, was for somebody to love, and finding and making friends with Shelby’s brother gave him that family to care for, the only blip on his horizon …… Shelby. Eric has loved her for ages, but he can’t get past his letting go of his rigid control to tell her how he feels, and past the “friend” label Shelby has saddled him with.

Eric has no knowledge of Shelby’s gift until it was revealed in book one. And when he does, he’s angry and hurt, he always thought he was family, but family doesn’t keep secrets from each other.

Things take a passionate turn when Shelby almost dies; this spurs Eric’s feelings into action. And from there they struggle with their feelings. Will Eric let go of his rigid control and let Shelby set the pace for their relationship? Will Shelby let all her guards down and truly let someone in?

Things keep happening to the Taggart family, and the Brand family are a big part of the problem. And I have a feeling it’s only going to escalate.

There is a connection to the last book, and it just adds more questions to my list. But it’s a good read, the mystery surrounding the family, and if you’ve read some of  David’s other books, you’ll notice a few old characters. That was a lovely surprise.

I’m loving this series and can’t wait to read more about the scary force trying to kill the Taggart family, and the rest of the Taggart men finding their women ?

Description:
Garrison Taggart doesn’t have time to deal with touchy-feely junk like “trust issues” or “feelings.” His dad’s health is waning and the family’s Wyoming ranch is being sabotaged. Too bad his supernatural ability to tell when someone is lying has been exactly zero help in ferreting out the betrayer so far. So, when sweet schoolteacher Sara Lopez raises concerns about his son being bullied, who can blame a guy for getting a little testy?

The last thing Sara needs is any more attention or gossip after her recent breakup with big-shot rancher Hank Brand. So her attraction to surly but sexy Garrison, Hank’s rival, is entirely unwanted. When she uncovers an insane plot to kidnap the Taggart boy and throws herself in harm’s way to protect him, Garrison must risk his deepest secret and his own life to save the people he cares for the most. But will his heroics cost him everything?

Review:

Legacy of Lies by Jillian David is a new series, and an author I’ve read before. So I eagerly said yes to this book. And I wasn’t disappointed…..

Sara is trying to forget her past, but coming back to her small town life isn’t going to be easy, people have long memories, and once a trouble maker, always a trouble maker. But Sara is now a teacher, she wants to make a difference, and if she can stick it here for a while, then once this job is done, Sara is out of there and she’ll look for a teaching post where no one knows her past.

Garrison is a single dad and a rancher, no time to meet women, and after being taken for every penny by the last woman he trusted, he won’t be in a hurry to trust another one.
His family, except his father, have abilities, he can sense the truth in people, his sister can find people and can feel their emotions, and her twin brother, he had an internal sat nav, he never gets lost, and had the ability to blend into the background. And a big brother who upped and left the family without an explanation (but something is mentioned in the book, that may shed some light on his reason for leaving) we don’t know his ability yet.
The ranch is a family owned ranch, but it’s not doing too well at the moment, and he really doesn’t have time to worry about bullies, and missing family members and his ailing father.
but there is just something about Sara that pulls Garrison in.

Their relationship is full of misunderstandings and distrust. But also filled with passionate kisses and tender moments.
Sara is warned by her ex to stay away from the “Taggart scum”, her boss (her ex’s brother,) also tells her to keep her nose clean, and not to interfere in the bullying of the Taggart “brat” otherwise she will lose her job, and Garrison is warned to stay away from Sara.

There is also a secondary storyline running through, and I’m sure this will be the string that keeps the stories linked.

It’s a great start to what I’m hoping is at least a four possibly five book series ?
Oh, did I forget to mention there is a missing big brother ?

I’d recommend this book to anyone who has read this author, or to anyone that likes their stories with a mystery to solve.

The Birth of Hell’s Valley!

Thanks for having me on The Reading Café, talking about my new paranormal western series, Hell’s Valley. The topic tonight is: How in the world did I come up with the idea for this series?

Let me start by saying, I’m still not sure what a “paranormal western” is, but wow, do I like it!

Here’s the rough and ready recipe:

Start with hot ranchers, sexy cowboys, leather, lassos, horses, and log houses

Mix in psychic/supernatural powers, dark dealings with strange neighbors, and a vendetta from the lord of the underworld.

What do you get? A Hell of a ride!

Each of the four books in the Hell’s Valley series is a standalone novel, but they are all connected together.

And the Hell’s Valley series? It’s a very loose spin-off from my first paranormal series, Hell to Pay. You definitely do NOT have to read the Hell to Pay series to enjoy Hell’s Valley, but if you do, you’ll find a bunch of fun “Easter eggs” in each book.

See, I was thinking about the last couple from my original Hell to Pay series, Ruth and Odie (she was a Civil War nurse and he was a Cajun rogue). They talked a lot about genealogy and their legacies and great-great-great grandchildren. Then at the end of the book, there was that massive threat from the big bad guy who promised to destroy their “legacy”. (I can’t get into much more detail without spoiling my entire first series and spilling all the beans on my current series — sorry!)

So I started thinking, what kind of legacy would Ruth have? Would her own strange powers flowed, even now, in her distant relatives?

Of course the answer was “yes,” and that’s how Hell’s Valley popped into being. I envisioned a ranching family in rugged western Wyoming. I imagined the ultimate evil returning and threatening the entire family. Would that family survive such an attack? How would the siblings work together to defeat such an overwhelmingly evil force?

Then I got to create a special power or two for each Taggart. And even more fun? Figuring out what made the powers — well now, I can’t go spilling all the secrets, can I?

Let’s just say Hell’s Valley is like riding a bucking bronco – the adrenaline rush blows you away, the twists and turns have you guessing the next move, and if you don’t hang on tight it’ll throw you for a loop!
