REVIEW:A HATEFUL NEGOTIATION is the fourth instalment in Tijan’s contemporary, adult KINGS OF NEW YORK, dark, erotic, Mafia romance series. This is twenty-eight year old, businessman and Mafia boss Creighton ‘Eight’ Lane, and twenty-two year old, college student Blake Green’s story line. A HATEFUL NEGOTIATION can be read as a stand alone with out any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. By way of mention, there is a slight cross-over with the author’s Bennett Mafia series, and the Carter Reed Series.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives ( Creighton and Blake) using present day and memories from the past, A HATEFUL NEGOTIATION focuses on the obsessive relationship and protection of our story line heroine. Blake Green grew up in the foster care system, where she would meet and befriend future mob boss Creighton ‘Eight’ Lane. Creighton immediately became guardian and protector of our story line heroine, so much so, that when Blake was targeted by another faction of the New York mob, Creighton took no prisoners, leaving no one behind but Blake’s new college placement finds a familiarity including the security and guards provided by the man she has always love, a man with whom she struggled to keep from destroying the people she loved. Having crossed territories, threats for past sins, and another target on our heroine’s back, Creighton and his team are preparing for war, a war that no one is going to win.

The world building follows several paths including the protection of a woman who struggles between head and heart, believing she is not worthy of love or her own happily ever after. The diverging heads of the various Mafia families are heading to war, and our heroine is about to become a pawn in winner takes all.

The relationship between Blake and Creighton is a friends to frenemies to lovers in which Crieghton has declared Blake as his own but someone else has fallen in love with our story line hero, and a perceived betrayal will push them out of his life. As Blake struggles with both her need for, and anger towards our story line hero, Blake is well aware, that the world would never survive the wrath of Creighton Lane, should something happen to our story line heroine. The $ex scenes are provocative and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is another large ensemble cast of colorful, familiar and energetic secondary and supporting characters. We are reintroduced to Mafia heads Tristian West ( A Dirty Business), and Ashton Walden (A Cruel Arrangement), Sophie and Pialto; Creighton’s men Levi and Lassiter, as well as the introduction of Yakuza auxiliary and Blake’s roommates, Heath Nogoskeski, Niko, and Marshall Finch.

A HATEFUL NEGOTIATION is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, power and control, obsession and family, acceptance and love. The character driven premise is dark, dramatic, and edgy; the romance is impassioned; the characters are desperate, determined and dangerous.
