REVIEW: BITTEN BY DESTINY is the fourth (and final?) instalment in S. Young aka Samantha Young’s contemporary, adult TRUE IMMORTALITY erotic, paranormal, romance series. This is rockstar Elijah Webb, and vampire Echo Payne’s story line. BITTEN BY DESTINY can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but for back story and cohesion I recommend reading the series in order.

SOME BACKGROUND: Years earlier, Aine, the Queen of the Fae banned all supernatural beings from the Land of the Fae, and in doing so prophesied the birth of seven human/Fae hybrid children who would be the keys to the portal back to the land of the Fae. In an attempt to prevent the opening of the portal, a supernatural group of vampires and werewolves formed The Garm, whose sole purpose is to hunt and kill the seven hybrid Fae. Three are dead. These are the stories of the remaining four.

Told from omniscient third person perspective BITTEN BY DESTINY follows the build up to the final confrontation and the search for the missing seventh Fae. Believing himself to be a warlock, Elijah Webb knew he was different but as the front man for the Irish rock group Strix he kept his abilities masked and unused until the day he would come face to face with our story line heroine, a woman sent to end his life. Echo Payne was born human but at the age of twenty, her ‘father’, William ‘the Bloody’ Payne, a master vampire, turned our heroine against her wishes, to be used as a weapon to destroy the Fae. From the outset Echo knew Elijah was something more, something that called to her heart and soul, and out heroine struggled to end the life of the man with who she would fall in love. The past was hunting, and our couple were about to face the ultimate test, losing loved ones and friends in a final battle for power and control.

The world building is complex and detailed as all of the previous story line characters return, revealing their backstories and their need to destroy the powerful beings taking aim at everyone involved. Meanwhile, both Elijah and Echo’s human families are threatened, and our couple are determined to protect them from the evil that is determined to destroy them all.

The relationship between Echo and Elijah begins as a hunt but rapidly turns into something more. Neither one suspects they are one another’s mates but their attraction is palpable, and their need for one another reveals a powerful connection that will save both in the end. The $ex scenes are passionate and intimate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of powerful, magical and intriguing secondary and supporting supernature characters. From werewolves, vampires, Fae, witches and warlocks to something more, a war is on the horizon, and a battle for control results in the take down of many.

BITTEN BY DESTINY is a story of power and control, secrets and lies, love and loss, betrayal and vengeance, magic and supernatural, family and friendships, acceptance and love. The character driven premise is action packed, dramatic and edgy; the romance is fated and seductive; the characters are desperate, determined and charismatic.
