REVIEW: DOUBT is the fourth instalment in Kathy Lockheart’s contemporary, adult SINNERS & SAINTS, erotic, romantic suspense series . This is attorney Ryker Kincaid, and thirty three year old, Faith Morrison’s story line. DOUBT can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

SOME BACKGROUND: The Sinners and Saints is a tight knit group formed by childhood and college friends, each with a speciality and a darkness that is required to save and protect the people they love. : Ryker, Blake, Axel, Jace and Knox.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Faith and Ryker) DOUBT follows in the wake of the arrest of our story line heroine. Days earlier, an injured Faith woke up in the forest with a dead man laying beside. With no memory of what had happened, Faith goes in search of her brother’s best friend, attorney Ryker Kincaid, in the hopes of discovering what happened and why. Arrested for the murder, Faith finds herself the target of the public, law enforcement and the criminal courts, but the past refuses to let go, and our heroine is struggling without hope or trust.

The world building follows Ryker as he battles the court system, searching for the truth but at every opportunity someone else has manipulated the evidence, as the demons from her past, refuse to let go.Faith and her brother Blake survived the child welfare system only for Faith the betrayal of the past, is determined to destroy. There are moments of anxiety and disbelief for a woman who has suffered all of her life.

The relationship between Ryker and Faith is a best friend’s sister, a forbidden affair, one of which has been building for a very long time. Faith has fallen in love with her brother’s best friend but as her lawyer, Ryker is struggling between personal and professional as the evidence begins to mount. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is another large ensemble cast of colorful, familiar and determined secondary and supporting including the return of Blake, Axel, Jace and Knox. We are introduced to nurse Harper, powerful Judge Kearns, and questionable DA Bennett Wolfe.

DOUBT is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, obsession and madness, power and control, family and relationships, acceptance and love. The character driven premises is dramatic and intriguing; the romance is seductive; the characters are desperate, charismatic and dynamic.
