REVIEW: FUMBLING FORWARD by Kathleen Kelly is a contemporary, adult, erotic, football romance found in the multi-authored GRID IRON WARRIORS series. This is thirty-seven year old quarterback Carter Storm, and team PR agent Olivia Rivers’ story line.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Carter and Olivia) FUMBLING FORWARD follows in the wake of a bar room brawl in which our hero was arrested under false accusations. Team PR rep would be assigned to shadow Carter Storm in an effort to keep the paparazzi at bay but their attraction between one another is about to become fodder for the tabloids and members of the team. Photos are leaked, lies are told, and our couple are at the centre of a media smear campaign.

The world building focuses on the image of the team more-so than the image of the player but the actions of the players reflect directly on the team, and as such Olivia is caught between a proverbial rock and a hard place when their affair is exposed.

The relationship between Olivia and Carter begins as a professional assignment but quickly turns into something more as our couple are forced to work together in an effort to keep Carter ‘s image clean. Carter is a great player, and never once cause the team any issues but someone else is determined to destroy their lives. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The secondary and supporting characters include several players, coaching teams, head office, team owner Mark Davidson, as well as the aggressive paparazzi, and Olivia’s best friend Maya.

FUMBLING FORWARD is a story of secrets and lies, attraction and obsession, acceptance and love. The fast paced premise is entertaining and captivating; the romance is seductive; the characters are determined and dynamic.
