REVIEW: HIS WICKED SPELL by Sammie Lyra is a contemporary, adult, erotic, Mafia romance story line found in the multi-authored 31 DAYS OF TRICK OR TREAT. This is Dante ‘Il Malefico’ Vescari, and pharmacist Evangeline Hart’s story line.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Evangeline and Dante) HIS WICKED SPELL follows Dante Vescari as he is determined to protect pharmacist Evangeline Hart. The Scarletta Crime family is disputing the Vescari territory, territory that includes the family owned Hart Pharmacy but more importantly, the Head of the Scarletta family is targeting our story line heroine, and Dante Vescari is determined to claim Evangeline as his own. Unaware and naive to the point of painful, Evangeline is caught between two powerful crime families, and her uncle refuses to cross the line and save her.

The world building focuses on Dante’s obsession with our story line heroine, and how that has made Evangeline a target of some powerful people. Determined to protect Evangeline, Dante claims our heroine as his own but the Scarletta Family refuse to back down, using Evangeline as a pawn to control the man in charge.

The relationship between Evangeline and Dante is one of immediate attraction but Evangeline is unaware of his connections to organized crime. A little bit of research and Evangeline knows she is about to fall in love with a very powerful and dangerous man. Dante knows immediately Evangeline owns his heart, and our hero is determined to protect Evangeline, even from herself. The $ex scenes are erotic and intense.

We are introduced to Dante’s right hand man Luca Romano; Evangeline’s Uncle and pharmacist Hart, and several members of the Scarletta family.

HIS WICKED SPELL is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, power and control, obsession and love. The fast paced premise is entertaining and intriguing but predictable. There is some ‘choppiness’ to flow of the story, some fine-tooth editing may be necessary; the romance is limited, focusing on their busy $ex life; the characters are determined and desperate.
