REVIEW:LOVER ENTHRONED is the twenty-fourth instalment in JR Ward’s adult BLACK DAGGER BROTHERHOOD paranormal, vampire romance series focusing on a group of vampire warriors known as the Black Dagger Brotherhood, and their King Wrath, son of Wrath. This is Rhysallhan ‘Allhan’ blooded sone of Chritophe the Younger, adopted son of Vishous and Jane, and Princess Dennesha, heir to the throne of the Shadows, daughter of iAm and Queen Catra’s story line. LOVER ENTHRONED can be as a stand alone but I recommend some working knowledge of the series, especially the last few instalments for back story and cohesion.

Told from several omniscient third person perspectives including Allhan and Denne, using present day and memories from the past, LOVER ENTHRONED follows several intersecting pathways all leading to Rhysallhan ‘Allhan’, adopted son of Vishous and Jane. Six months earlier, Allhan walked into the vampire controlled ‘Safe Place’, wondering where everything went wrong. With his sister Carmen avenged, Allhan found himself in the hands of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, a group of warriors who have drawn the ire of a new group of Lessers, Lessers who are now targeting our story line hero. Allhan is just days past his transition, and is about to witness what cannot be unseen, and finds himself at the mercy of a young woman who has stolen his heart but said young woman, Denne, has been promised to someone else, and in this, our couple’s time together is limited until the ultimate betrayal pushes our couple together in a fight to the death.

The world building follows several intricate pathways including revenge for a sister; the breakdown of communication between father and son; a plot to take down the Blind King, and the death of several young vampires at the hands of the Lesser Society. Swarmed in darkness, LOVER ENTHRONED focuses on betrayal, revenge, blackmail, chances and choice.

The relationship between Denne and Allhan begins by chance but Denne is struggling with her fated future, a future her family has read in the stars. Battling between duty to family, and her attraction to Allhan, Denne must come to terms with her fate, or die in the process of avenging betrayal. The $ex scenes are limited but passionate.

There is a large ensemble cast of supernatural, familiar, energetic and dynamic secondary and supporting characters including Wrath, his son LW, Bitty, Viscious, Doc Jane, Denne’s parents iAm and Catra, Trey, Rhamp, and several young vampires looking for their place in the world.

LOVER ENTHRONED is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, power and control, family and friendships, acceptance and love. The character driven premise is dramatic, engaging and entertaining; the romance is seductive; the characters are desperate, determined, and charismatic.
