REVIEW: ROSES ARE DEAD is the third instalment in Calia Wilde’s contemporary, adult SKILLETSVILLE PA DESTROYERS MC, dark, erotic, MC romance series, a spin-off from the author’s DESTROYERS MC world, set in the multi-authored 31 Days of Trick or Treat series. This is Roishin ‘Rose’ Black, and Theodore ‘Bear’ Lund’s story line. ROSES ARE DEAD can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there WILL BE triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Rose and Bear) ROSES ARE DEAD follows self-proclaimed witch, Roishin ‘Rose’ Black, in the aftermath of her sale to the Skilletsville Destroyers MC. Rose is a reluctant member of a cult-like church, and as their property, she will become payment for a debt but Rose’s best friend Beth is dying, and Carl, the man in charge is Beth’s only hope for survival. Now the property of the Skilletsville Destroyers MC, but more importantly, the property of Theodore ‘Bear’ Lund, Rose is determined to save her friend, by forcing Carl to make good on a vow to protect Beth, even if it means death to our story line heroine.

The world building follows several paths including the madness of a cult-like belief system, a cult that has used and abused our story line heroine. Rose is a witch who is determined to protect the people she loves, even if she has to die to honor her vow. Bear is struggling with his ability to trust but his need for Rose pushes the limits of the MC, and in this, Rose is about to become collateral damage to protect everyone else.

The relationship between Rose and Bear begins as a transaction; a payment for a debt but Bear knows immediately that Rose is the woman who commands his heart. Struggling with his attraction, Bear finds himself at odds with the club, with Rose, and with his friendships to those who mean them harm. The $ex scenes are aggressive and intense.

There is another large ensemble cast of questionable and desperate secondary and supporting characters many of whom we met in the previous story lines including the return of MC members Sprout, Skinner, Wolf, Hickey, as well as Cara and Zoe. We are introduced to Rose’s best friend Beth, and her husband John, as well as Beth’s brother Carl. The requisite evil has many faces.

ROSES ARE DEAD is a story of betrayal and vengeance, obsession and madness, power and control, belief and magic, determination and pain, acceptance and love. The intricate premise is dramatic, edgy and gritty; the romance is impassioned and combative; the characters are determined, dynamic, and dogged.
