Told from dual first person perspectives (Onyx and Hennessy) SPEAK NO CLAIM follows in the wake of the arrive of Hennessy Belladonna at The Graves Academy in Litchfield Connecticut. Raised in the Peruvian Amazon, Hennessy lost her father at an early age but never expected to find herself in America at the prestigious and dark private Graves Academy at the behest of her uncle, a man she barely knew. From the outset, Hennessy suspected all was not right in the world of The Graves, and coming face to face with Onyx Devereaux proved the darkness bled into every generation. Onyx Devereaux spent most of his life knowing his future but never expected to find his future in the guise of Hennessy Belladonna, a young woman whose own legacy at The Graves Academy is whispered about and hidden behind secrets and lies. Ordered to keep watch, forced to protect, Onyx is willing to sacrifice for the woman with whom he is falling in love.
The world building reveals the familial histories and the fall out of betrayal and vengeance. The hierarchy of power and control threatens both the physical and mental well being of everyone involved, the lore and dark historical aspect of The Graves Academy permeates the walls, and the bodies left behind. The abuse and reprisals are painful and deadly.
The relationship between Onyx and Hennessy begins acrimoniously. Hennessy is oblivious to the who and what of The Graves Academy, but our heroine refuses to stand by and watch the spiral of the man with whom she is falling in love. Onyx Devereaux has never felt loved since the death of his mother but Hennessy is willing to give Onyx a chance, watching as the Devereaux family implodes. The $ex scenes are intimate and intense.
The secondary and supporting characters are powerful, questionable, dangerous and broken. We are introduced to Hennessy’s uncle Luis and his fiancée Elizabeth, Onyx’s father, and sister Deja ; driver Jones aka ‘Alfred’ , and Onyx’s best friend Caspian. The requisite evil has many faces.
SPEAK NO CLAIM is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, power and control, murder and obsession, family and relationships, acceptance and love. The character driven premise is dark, dramatic and edgy; the romance is limited but protective and obsessive; the characters are desperate, determined and charismatic. SPEAK NO CLAIM ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.
