REVIEW: BLACK WIDOW is the fifth instalment in Julie Ann Walker’s contemporary, adult BLACK KNIGHTS INC: RELOADED erotic, romantic suspense series, a spin off set in the author’s BLACK KNIGHTS INC world, focusing on a team of former military heroes headquartered and fronted by a custom motorcycle shop in Chicago known as Black Knights Inc. This is former US Navy SEAL helicopter pilot Hewitt ‘Hew’ Birch, and social media promoter Sabrina Greenlee’s story line. BLACK WIDOW can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion as there is an ongoing premise throughout.
Told from several omniscient third person perspectives including Hew and Sabrina, using present day and memories from the past, BLACK WIDOW follows in the wake of the abduction and rescue of our story line heroine. Months earlier, Sabrina was the victim of a kidnapping and assault, wherein she struggled to save her brother’s life. Living with the team at Black Knights Inc, Sabrina found purpose as their social media manager but our heroine found herself falling for a man refused to cross the line. Hewitt Birch had fallen in love with Sabrina the first time they met but Sabrina was still healing, and Hew was biding his time but Sabrina was stubborn, and in an effort to clear her head, found herself the prisoner of a team of professional assassins, assassins who were using our heroine as bait.
The world building follows several intersecting paths including the return of the person known as Bishop, a high ranking politician who has targeted the team at Black Knights Inc. Very few people are aware of Bishop’s true identity but the BKI team begins to suspect is may be someone they knew.
The relationship between Hew and Sabrina is a friends to lovers in which Hew has declared himself guardian and protector of a woman who is battling between head and heart. Sabrina believes Hew sees her as nothing more than a friend, and as the weeks and months pass, their miscommunication and misunderstandings threaten any chance for a happily ever after. The $ex scenes are intimate and provocative without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
There is another large ensemble cast of colorful, familiar and charismatic secondary and supporting character including many of the previous story line characters and the team at Black Knights Inc We are reintroduced to Graham Coleburn, and White House assistant Lura Dougherty, and as well as Vivian Draka aka Black Widow. The requisite evil has many faces.
BLACK WIDOW is a story of power and control, betrayal and vengeance, obsession and madness, family and friendships, relationships and love. The character driven premise is detailed, complex and intriguing; the romance is seductive and impassioned; the characters are desperate, determined and dynamic.

Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Julie grew up in a house full of women – she has three older sisters. As you can imagine, there was no lack of drama… or romance. Her mother enrolled her in a book club as soon as she began to read and it was the small spark that ignited her voracious appetite for the written word.
Because of Julie’s early immersion in literature, she found writing came quite naturally. In high school, she won multiple writing contests and was the proud senior editor of The Tiger’s Tale – her school newspaper.
During her college years, however, she longed for a challenge. “Reading and writing felt like second nature to me, so I looked for a way to flex my mental muscles,” she recalls. After receiving a Bachelor of Science degree, Julie began teaching advanced high school mathematics.
“I loved working with the students and facing the challenges of the classroom, but I longed for the occasional snow day when I could race to the local book store, buy two or three new novels, and curl up in front of the fire to read.”
It wasn’t until a fortuitous move to Chicago that Julie once more returned to her first passion.
Now Julie loves to travel the world looking for views to compete with her deadlines. When she’s not writing, she enjoys camping, hiking, cycling, cooking, petting every dog that walks by her, and… reading, of course
