REVIEW:KEEP ME CLOSE is the fifth instalment in Jennifer Sucevic’s contemporary, adult CHICAGO RAILERS hockey, erotic romance series, a spin off set in the Western Wildcats Hockey series. This is Chicago Railers player Knox McNichols and reality TV star Cheyenne Benson’s story line. KEEP ME CLOSE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Cheyenne is the sister of Britt, and Knox is the brother of Colby (Never Say Never).

Told from dual first person perspectives (Knox and Cheyenne) and several bonus chapter from current secondary characters, KEEP ME CLOSE follows the fake but building romance and relationship between our story line couple. Knox McNichols’ brother Colby is married to reality TV star Cheyenne Benson’s sister Britt, and Knox has lusted after Cheyenne for as long as he can remember. Cheyenne’s arrival in Chicago coincides with an breakup from her last boyfriend, an ex who refuses to accept no. Hoping to push the ex out of her life, Cheyenne’s asks Knox for a fake relationship, a relationship that will quickly turn into something more. But the past refuses to let go, and follows Cheyenne to Chicago in the hopes are starting anew.
The world building focuses on hockey, television stardom and burnout, and an obsessive ex who refuses to let go. Cheyenne left her ‘momager’ in LA, and is hoping for a new direction in life, a new stage career, a new group of friends, and a future without the worry of her dangerous ex Hoping to remain in Chicago, Cheyenne pushes back at LA and in doing so, struggle with what the future holds.
The relationship between Knox and Cheyenne is a frenemies to friends to lovers. As ‘in-laws’ Cheyenne and Knox are often in one another’s orbit but Cheyenne is unaware that Knox has feelings for the woman that calls to his heart. When the threats again Cheyenne become personal, Knox is determined to protect our heroine. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, energetic and familiar secondary and supporting characters including several from the interconnected series. We are reintroduced to Knox’s brother Colby and his wife Britt, and Knox’s teammates and their significant others: Kia and Laiken, Oliver and Rena, Steele and Lilah, River and Callie. Jax Wilder, Sloane: team owners Evelyn Kingston and Hugh Landry,as well as the return of Britt and Cheyenne’s mother Sharon Benson.
KEEP ME CLOSE is a story of secrets and lies, fake dating and relationships, power and control, personal freedom and obsession, acceptance and love. The character driven premise is dramatic, edgy and entertaining-there are several bonus epilogues revealing a peak into a couple of upcoming story lines; the romance is seductive and protective; the characters are determined and charismatic.
