ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date April 16, 2026

After eighteen years, I’ve come home to the Scottish island of my childhood. It’s the place I vowed I wouldn’t return to so I never again had to see the man who broke my heart into a million pieces.

Yet family has inevitably brought me back, and avoiding my ex, Quinn McQuarrie, is proving impossible when he insists on digging up the past every time we meet.

Quinn is now a single dad, the local contractor, and the person the entire town is rooting for to get his happily ever after. The problem is, he wants me to be his HEA, and I just want to move on. When Quinn sees my plans to save the town’s volunteer lifeboat service as an opportunity to work together, I’m stuck with him. And, unfortunately, I soon realize there’s no denying that the chemistry we share has only grown more intense with the passing of time.

I know Quinn wants more than just a physical relationship, but it’s all I can promise with so much hurt and distrust between us.

However, when strange disturbances escalate to harassment, our lives are turned upside down, and Quinn proves he will do anything in his power to protect me. Even if it means losing each other before we ever get our second chance

REVIEW:DRIFTING DAWN is the second instalment in Samantha Young’s contemporary, adult SCOTTISH ISLES romantic suspense series, spin off set in the author’s Adair Family and The Highlands interconnected series. This is single father and designer / builder Quinn McQuarrie, and bookstore/ café owner Taran MacBeth’s story line.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Quinn and Taran) using present day, and multiple time jumps between the past and the present DRIFTING DAWN follows the rekindling romance and relationship between our story line couple. Approximately eighteen years earlier, childhood best friends and high school sweethearts were destroyed by jealousy and issues of trust. Fast forward to present day, Quinn is a single father of two, and his love for Taran MacBeth has never waivered. Taran struggles to forgive the man who destroyed her heart but misunderstanding and miscommunication were but the stepping stone towards another eighteen years of secrets and unrequited love. Having returned home months earlier, in the wake of her mother’s death , Taran has found herself the target of someone’s vengeance, and when the threats become personal and dangerous, Quinn is determined to protect the woman who owns his heart.

The world building follows several pathways including memories from the past as we are up close and personal with what happened and why. Quinn is now the father of two, and struggle with the teenaged years of his daughter and son, while Taran is still grieving the loss of the mother she held close to her heart.

The relationship between Quinn and Taran is one of second chances; a rekindling romance between two people destroyed by miscommunication, jealousy and immaturity. Taran continues to battle between head and heart, while Quinn is ready for a second chance. The $ex scenes are passionate and intense.

The secondary and supporting characters are energetic and dynamic. We are reintroduced to Quinn’s sister Cammie aka Cameron; her best friend and roommate London; B&B owner Tierney Silver and Ramsay McRae (HALF-LIGHT HARBOR 1) ; fishing company owner Murray Shaw; Quinn’s best friend and paramedic Forde Dallas; Aodhan Macduff, and Quinn’s children Heather and Angus, as well as Quinn’s ex Kiera and her husband Gary.

DRIFTING DAWN is a story heart break and miscommunication, betrayal and vengeance, family and friendship, forgiveness and love. The character driven premise is emotional, heart breaking and dramatic; the romance is edgy and fated; the characters are determined, desperate and charismatic.
