REVIEW: BURNING SEA is the fifth instalment in Donna Grant’s adult ELVEN KINGDOMS paranormal/ fantasy romance series, set in the author’s numerous interconnected paranormal series focusing on the Dragon Kings. This is sea elf Varum,and human Kalyani’s story line. BURNING SEA can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary . The events of BURNING SEA cross over with, and run parallel to the events of book four STORM WOOD.

SOME BACKGROUND: The Elven Kingdoms are being threatened, and their people, including young children and women are going missing. There is the torture and trafficking of humans and elves, and the existence of Moon, Star, Dark, Sea, Mountain and Wood Elves as well as Healers and Readers. Someone is abducting and forcing the elves and humans into slavery, and there are those working from within and from the outside hoping to rescue and make a change. The Council of Masters continues to seek power and control, while the DIA (Defense Intelligence Agency) and the CCD (Counter Corruption Division) work diligently to find the people involved.

Told from several omniscient third person perspectives including Varum and Kalyani, BURNING SEA follows in the aftermath of an attack against ship suspected of abducting humans and elves but while sea elf Varum watched from afar, collecting data to report back to his superiors, our hero notices a human swimming in the sea, a human whom he rescues from the churning seas but it is against their laws to bring humans to their city, and Varum must hide our heroine or they will both face a sentence of death.

The world building focuses on the protection of our story line heroine, keeping her safe and hidden from the people in charge but Varum begins to suspect all is not well in his home world of Taranargh, and the Council of Masters may be closer than he could have ever imagined.

The relationship between Varum and Kalyani begins as a rescue; a mutual attraction between two people who are about to face the biggest fight of their lives when Kalyani is >, and Varum finds himself facing down the people he once called friend. The $ex scenes are limited but passionate.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, questionable and energetic secondary and supporting characters including the return of Kalyani’s brother Rohan and his mate Farah, and several of the previous story line couples. We are introduced to Arvind the Tidewarden, and his daughter Tinara, as well as Varum’s friend Niram.

BURNING SEA is a story of secrets and lies, power and control, betrayal and vengeance, acceptance and love. The slow building premise is detailed and dramatic; the romance is seductive; the characters are desperate and charismatic-our heroine will discover she is something more, something of which no one was aware.

REVIEW:MOUNTAIN FIRE is the fourth instalment in Donna Grant’s adult ELVEN KINGDOMS paranormal/ fantasy series- a spin off from the author’s numerous interconnected Dragon Kings and Dark Kings series. This is human female Inej, and Mountain Elf Manu’s story line. MOUNTAIN FIRE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but for backstory and cohesion I recommend reading the series in order. Several characters cross over from the other series for familiarity.

Told from several omniscient third person perspectives including Inej and Manu, MOUNTAIN FIRE follows in the wake of the rescue of our story line heroine, a woman sent on a mission to destroy a man she believes is responsible for the pain and suffering of so many lives but Inej is unaware of the truth, and our heroine will find herself falling in love, and at the mercy of the Elf whom she was sent to kill. Manu suspected Inej was hiding a secret; her arrival in the mountains felt forced and unprepared but Manu felt a pull to the woman who had the capability of breaking his heart. As the threats to his people became more deadly and dangerous, someone else was taking aim at the woman with whom Manu was falling in love.

The world building focuses on the protection of the Elves, and the rescue of the most vulnerable. Manu is a warrior determined to take down the people responsible but the threats are becoming more personal, taking aim at our story line heroine.

The relationship between Manu and Inej is predicated upon a lie; Inej was sent to destroy the man she believes was responsible for the loss of so many lives, and in the end, it will be someone else more powerful and determined to ravage a community struggling to survive. Inej never expected to fall in love with her target, but falling in love meant walking away and losing it all. The $ex scenes are seductive and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of supernaturally diverse secondary and supporting characters including several types of Elves, as well as the appearance of Con, King of the Dragons, and his mate Rhi.

MOUNTAIN FIRE is a story of power and control, betrayal and vengeance, secrets and lies, family and friendships, relationships and love. The premise is intriguing and captivating; the romance is spirited; the characters are determined, desperate and magical.

REVIEW: DARK HEART is the second instalment in Donna Grant’s adult ELVEN KINGDOMS paranormal / fantasy romance series, , a spin off, set in the author’s numerous interconnected series including Dark Kings and Dragon Kings. This is Dark elves Arya and Jai’s story line. DARK HEART can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order.

Told from several omniscient third person perspectives DARK HEART follows Dark Elf Arya as she goes in search of the man she loves. Approximately four years earlier, while working undercover for the CCD, the Dark’s Counter Corruption Division, Arya is thought to have betrayed the man that she loved, pushing Jai out of her life and into the arms of someone else. Having spent several years searching with her partner Dain, in the hopes of finding Jai, Arya is about to walk into a trap, setting into motion, her capture and torture at the hands of the people in charge but Arya will quickly discover that the betrayal by someone else sparked Jai’s hatred towards our story line heroine, and a ransom for her capture was only the beginning of her spiral out of control.

The world building is complex and detailed, focusing on the trafficking and torture of slaves, and Jai was once at the centre of the destruction of so many lives. There is a council of Masters seemingly battling for control including the capture of our story line heroine, but Arya’s love for Jai is threatened by a lifetime of lies and betrayal.

The relationship between Arya and Jai goes from enemies to friends to lovers but someone else is waiting impatiently for Arya to be pushed out of Jai’s life. Jai believes Arya betrayed him and their love, and therefore is determined to make Arya pay for years of heart break and pain. The limited $ex scenes are intimate and provocative without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

Once again, there is a large ensemble cast of colorful and magical secondary and supporting characters including Jai’s childhood best friend Priya, Arya’s CCD partner Dain, the not quite human female Reva, as well as the return of Yasmin and Ravi (Rising Sun 1), and Dragon King Kendrick and his mate Esha. The requisite evil has many faces.

DARK HEART is a story of secrets and lies, jealousy and obsession, power and control, betrayal and vengeance, forgiveness and love. The premise is dramatic and dark; the romance is predicated upon a past relationship; the characters are lively, determined and dangerous.

This is sun elf Ravi, and human Yasmin’s story line. There is a slight cross over with Dragon Lover (Dragon Kings 5).

Told from dual omniscient third person perspectives (Ravi and Yasmin) RISING SUN focuses on the search for a weapon that may be used to take down the Dragon Kings. Yasmin is struggling to feed the many mouths of the children she has chosen to raise but branded a thief, Yasmin must choose between imprisonment or returning to the place that all but destroyed her life. A cross-country journey with sun elf Ravi forces Yasmin to face her darkest fears including the revelation that Yasmin is much more than she appears to be.

The world building is set in a fantasy world with seven kinds of elves, and the return of the Dragons, once thought to be a myth. Someone is determined to destroy the dragons, and in doing so, control the order and the elves.

The relationship between Yasmin and Ravi begins as an assignment. Ravi works for the DIA, and has been tasked to retrieve an explosive device meant to destroy the mythical dragon but Yasmin is struggling with betrayal, and the memories of a place so dark and depraved that very few people make it out alive. The $ex scenes are limited but passionate.

There is a large ensemble cast of magical and power beings including the return of Dragon King Kendrick and his mate Esha, as well as several elves including dark elf Dain, and Mountain Elf Manu. The requisite evil has many faces.

RISING SUN is a story of power and control, betrayal and vengeance, jealousy and madness, acceptance and love. The slow building and familiar premise is engaging and interesting; the romance is subtle, there is little palpable sexual attraction; the characters are desperate and dynamic.
