This is forty-five year old, billionaire businessman Alexander Caldwell, and secretary/ ghost writer Liberty Smith’s story line. ADORATION can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Told from dual first person perspectives (Alexander and Liberty) ADORATION follows the tempestuous relationship between our story line couple. Alexander Caldwell claimed he needed a new secretary and used a temp agency to secure access to our story line heroine. Liberty Smith’s is an American born ghost writer who moved to the UK with her late mother and adopted sister Lena, and agreed to help Lena with her latest temp agency contract but from the outset Liberty struggled to find her place at Caldwell Enterprise, and any sort of detente with the man in charge. Alexander Caldwell’s attraction to Liberty was out of control, and his need to claim Liberty only added to his obsession with our story line heroine but tragedy would strike, and a marriage of convenience ensued, a marriage Liberty struggled to accept was real.

The world building follows several intersecting pathways including death and grief, secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, forgiveness and love. The connection between Alexander and Liberty began years before, a connection our heroine knew nothing about. As the Caldwell family secrets and skeletons slowly reveal, Liberty battles between head and heart in the face of dishonesty, heart break and continued loss.

The relationship between Liberty and Alexander begins acrimoniously. Alexander is often angry and rude much to Liberty’s confusion, and in this, our heroine struggles to work for a man who is at war with himself. As their relationship slowly turns into something more, the revelation of more secrets threatens any chance of a happily ever after for our story line couple. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, energetic and sometimes questionable secondary and supporting characters. We are introduced to Liberty’s friends Layla, Lena and Larry, and their son Brandon ; Alexander’s brother Maxim, their father Alexander II, and grandfather Alexander I.

ADORATION is a story of grief and loss, secrets and lies, forgiveness and love. The character driven premise is heart breaking, emotional and dramatic; the romance is edgy ; the characters are determined, charismatic, broken yet struggling to heal.

“What the fuck are you doing here, Atticus?”

Killian’s cold voice sent chills down my spine even though it wasn’t directed at me. I’d dealt with my fair share of monsters, but my husband had a ruthless side to him that he hid behind his charming smile.

It probably blindsided people when he attacked; they’d never expect it from someone as beautiful as him.

“Emory and I have business to discuss,” Atticus drawled. I’d been buying time ever since our last encounter, ignoring his messages, hoping to find a solution and the location of the person I’d been looking for without his help.

But the old man was nothing if not persistent.

“Whatever you’ve got to say, now is not the time. And you’re trespassing,” Killian warned. “Tell me why I shouldn’t have my guards shoot you right now.”

“Because this business,” Atticus started, looking at me pointedly, “is the only thing standing between life and death.” He waved his hand nonchalantly. “Besides, they now work for me and the ones who refused are dead.”

Killian obviously thought him full of shit because he wasn’t moved. “My wife’s business is my business, so spit it out and be on your way.”

Dread coursed through me at the knowledge that I brought this dangerous man to our doorstep. I should have never made a deal with him, but desperate times called for desperate measures. And God, I was so fucking desperate.

“Atticus, this isn’t a good time,” I gritted, trying to keep my cool. I couldn’t let Killian learn my secret. Not now.

My heart raced as I watched Killian’s cold gaze lock on the man who held the key to the only thing I cared about.

Atticus’s eyes were on me, his lips lifting into a sick grin as he said, “My beautiful Emory. Time is of the essence if you want your answers.”

I wondered if Atticus was like my father, who had a way of bending the illusion of normality so that it forever stayed out of my grasp.

“What fucking answers?” Killian demanded.

Atticus ignored him. “Let me remind you of our deal: you give me a name, and I’ll give you yours along with the location. Two for one. See? Don’t ever say I’m not generous.”

“What the fuck is he talking about, Em?” Killian repeated.

“I waved my hand nonchalantly while my heart threatened to beat through my rib cage. “This guy’s lost his mind.”

Atticus chuckled as if I’d uttered the funniest joke, but there was little humor in his eyes as they studied me.

“Stop looking at her that way, or I’ll dig your eyeballs out of your skull,” Killian warned, his spine stiff, violence in his posture as he blocked me from the bastard’s view.

“This doesn’t concern you, Irishman,” Atticus stated calmly, batting away Killian’s threat. “Emory DiLustro should be grateful for my patience.”

“Her name is Emory Cullen and you better learn to use it,” Killian hissed, his eyes screaming murder. “My wife owes you nothing, and if you don’t get out of here, I’ll secure you a trip six feet under.”

Atticus’s nostrils flared, his gaze now on Killian. It would seem my husband’s reputation preceded him: Killian Cullen did not make empty threats.

Panic zinged through me as my thoughts whirled with a dozen what-ifs, but it was a moot point. I learned a long time ago that you had little say in the cards you were dealt.

I eyed my surroundings for a weapon before remembering Killian kept a gun hidden underneath the table in my foyer.

I took a small step back at the same time Atticus drew two guns, aiming them at my husband and me.

“Don’t move, Emory,” Atticus stated, his voice lethal. “Or you’ll be planning your husband’s funeral.” My movements halted and I leveled him with a glare. “Good girl,” he purred. “Now get back to your husband.”

“Don’t fucking move,” Killian said, his eyes still locked on the unwelcome visitor. “Stay exactly where you are, Em.”

“I was so fucking sick and tired of men telling me what to do. Yes, Killian had my best interests at heart, but I could protect myself. I survived two decades under one of the cruelest men in the Syndicate, for fuck’s sake. I deserved some credit.

“Let’s make this quick,” Atticus said with a twisted smirk, “so you two lovebirds can get back to professing your love for one another.”

I should never have trusted this asshole. My cousins and brother wouldn’t touch him with a ten-foot pole and would have advised against my dealings with him had I asked.

But I didn’t ask. Atticus was my ticket to get to her, and that was more important than my pride.

“Unless you want to talk about…” Atticus trailed off, and somehow I knew whatever he was about to say would change my world forever. “Do you want to talk about Amara? You could see her by this time tomorrow.”

Amara. Amara. Amara.

The shock rocked me to my core at finally learning her name. All these years of searching and I finally got that little piece of information that I should’ve had all along.

“Who in the fuck is Amara?” Killian’s voice startled me out of my stupor and my mind raced through a thousand answers.

“It’s now or never, Emory,” Atticus stated matter-of-factly. “Who matters more? Who do you love more? Your husband or…”

The world building follows several pathways including the heartbreaking abuse suffered by our story line hero; the abandonment by his birth mother, and the need to avenge those unable to protect themselves. Ivy’s own family history pushes our heroine to hunt down the woman she blames for destroying their lives.

The relationship between Ivy and Christian begins as a mutual attraction but Christian keeps his distance before making his move. ’Rescuing’ Ivy from a marriage to someone else, Christian finds himself falling for a woman whose heart he is about to destroy. The $ex scenes are intimate and provocative .

The secondary and supporting characters include the previous story line couples, as well as Ivy’s over protective brothers, Christian’s siblings, his father Frank and his mother Aisling. The requisite evil has many faces.

He looked down, trailing up my bare legs before his emotionless gaze flicked up and caught mine. It was like he was looking straight through me. Goose bumps raised the hair on my arms, and I instantly knew who he was. Priest, the Syndicate’s kingpin who ruled Philadelphia.
Instinctively, I took a step back, and something dark moved through his eyes.
“Now what have we got here?” he said softly. My stomach dropped like lead and a quiver started in my chest. Being alone with him made it feel like there wasn’t enough oxygen in the small space. “You shouldn’t be out here alone, angel.”
He closed the distance between us in one powerful stride and a shiver ghosted through me. His eyes that locked on me were heartless. Invasive. Blue.
The moment stretched, stealing what little breath of air I’d managed from my lungs.
Just the idea of being this close to the man we were about to rob sent every nerve ending in my body tingling in expectation. I sensed danger, and I wondered how long it would be before my friends came looking for me.
Another step and I was cornered, his woodsy oak scent wrapping around me. His body singed as it brushed against mine, the heat powerful and impossible to ignore. My limbs felt heavy and light all at once, my skin buzzing like a live wire.
“I’m not alone.”
I swallowed when he remained quiet. He was the tallest man I’d ever seen in real life, his blond hair a halo framing his face. Except there was something dark and unhinged in his blue eyes, and I found myself unable to look away. That full mouth of his probably had ladies falling at his feet, and judging by his smirk, he knew it.
His gaze ran down my bare legs like ice melting on my heated skin and he chuckled, making my cheeks flame with heat.
“You enjoying yourself, angel?” His voice was an elusive timbre, each word twined with an abrasive edge. It was sinful, inviting erotic images into my mind. The kind that you kept locked in the pits of your soul. I averted my gaze a little too quickly, making it painfully obvious that I’d been staring. “Don’t be shy… I find myself quite fascinated by you too.”
He touched my red locks and curled one around his finger.
“I wasn’t… I’m sorry,” I said with a shake of my head, then immediately winced. His grip tightened, and I wondered what it would feel like if he tugged. “I need to go.”
“It was like a magnetic field surrounded us, leaving us alone in the darkened hallway while hordes of people mingled only a few feet away. He was brimming with raw sexuality and masculinity, his presence inescapable, leaving me frazzled. Everything about him warned me to run away, yet my body refused to move and my pussy chose that moment to clench with need.
“Not so fast,” he said, his voice low as he bent his head, bringing his mouth closer to my ear. “We should explore this.”
I blinked, suddenly turned on like never before. “Explore what?”
“This.” He nipped my earlobe and every thought I had withered away. Oh, dear God. This wasn’t part of the plan. “You want it too.”
I swallowed, shaking my head. We couldn’t do this. He, of all people, was not on the agenda tonight.
“I don’t think that’s wise,” I whispered.
“Then tell me to stop,” he said, his voice dropping another octave. He placed a hand on my hip and my skin bloomed with heat. “You aren’t even real, are you? An angel would never tempt the devil.”
Both hands on my hips now, he pulled me closer to him, our bodies flush.
“I’m not… tempting anyone,” I rasped. I couldn’t let this man touch me—I had to put a stop to it. And yet… my body leaned closer to his, light drawn to darkness.
“You can’t deny it, but something tells me you know that all too well.”
“I don’t even know your name,” I protested, but my voice was so quiet it was barely audible. Yes, Wynter had briefed me on this man, but “Priest” couldn’t possibly be his real name. “This is wrong.”
“Forget about right and wrong,” he commanded, ignoring my feeble reasoning. I nodded, almost as if in a trance. “Now look at me.”
I lifted my head, staring up at him. His pupils were so wide, the blue hue of his eyes almost swallowed by the black. But it was the longing in his gaze that captivated me.”
“I opened my mouth to tell him to stop, but no words came out. All I could focus on were his strong fingers flexing on my hips. My core contracted, flooding with heat and making me suck in a stuttered breath.
I licked my lips, every cell in my body vibrating with sexual energy. I didn’t know what it was about this man, but I wanted his hands on me, his fingers inside me. Just this once, I wanted to do something wild and reckless and let this gorgeous stranger ravish me and relieve this aching need.
“Now what?” I breathed out.
The man locked eyes with me as he trailed his hand up my thigh.
“Now I make you come,”

The world building follows several paths including the overlap between four relationships, all friends of our story line heroine. As the Russian Bratva begins to circle against the Italian Mafia, the Triads are taking aim for sins of the past.

The relationship between Athena and Manuel begins as a one-night stand but Athena begins to struggle with a familial connection. Manuel is a man almost twice Athena’s age, and in this his experiences and former lovers reveal a history that hits too close to home. Manuel is desperate to protect the woman with whom he is falling in love, and Athena knows that without Manuel, her life would be forfeit for someone else’s sins. The $ex scenes are provocative and seductive.

The secondary and supporting characters are desperate and questionable on many levels. We are introduced to head of the Bratva Atticus Popov, and his son Danil Popov; several members of the Chinese Mafia; Athena’s mother Alexandra Kosta, as well as the return of Dante and Phoenix (Thorns of Silence), Isla and Enrico (Thorns of Death), Raven. The requisite evil has many faces.
