REVIEW: FOREVER DEFIANT is the second instalment in Eve L Mitchell’s contemporary, new adult FOURTH AND FOREVER erotic, football, romantic suspense series. This is twenty-one year old wide-receiver Dustin Slater, and journalism student Hadley Peterson’s story line. FOREVER DEFIANT should not be read as a stand alone as there is a continuing story line throughout. There is a slight cross-over with the characters from the author’s The Ruthless Devil’s series,

Told from dual first person perspectives ( Hadley and Dustin) FOREVER DEFIANT follows journalism student Hadley Peterson as she continues to search for the truth. Something is wrong with college sports, something dark, hidden, and always behind the scenes but as Hadley begins to dig into the Alabama Lions football organization, she never expected to find herself falling for wide receiver Dustin Slater. Under the guise of doing an expose on Dustin Slater, Hadley begins to dig into the past, and discovers the Lions have buried a story, the names and events have been wiped from the school’s records, and with the help of quarterback Dante and Savannah (Forever Reckless 1), Dustin, and Dustin’s roommate and fellow football player Noah Matthews, Hadley goes in search of the truth. Dustin struggles with Hadley’s presence in his life, and her need to uncover the truth but Hadley’s search is threatening the security of the game, and the people in charge are taking notice.
The world building, once again, focuses on the demands of college football, scandals and the darker side of athletics as Hadley follows the hunt for evidence, evidence buried and deleted, leaving little to no trail . Something happened four years earlier, and Hadley is determined to uncover the truth. The game is all about the W, and anything or anyone that interferes, is silenced or disappears.
The relationship between Hadley and Dustin begins acrimoniously. Dustin Slater does not trust our story line heroine, a woman who is digging into the sport he loves, and the secrets hidden behind the wins and championships but there is definitely a darkness that threatens the school, and working with Hadley, brings our couple together, The $ex scenes are are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top sexually graphic language and text.
The secondary and supporting characters are charismatic, determined and dynamic. We are reintroduced to Dante and Savannah, Noah Matthews, Coach TJ Hembry, Coach Sutherland, Savannah’s father Dean Maxwell Cole, as well as Dustin’s parents and his sister Naya.
FOREVER DEFIANT is a thought provoking story of secrets and lies, power and control, betrayal and vengeance, family and relationships, acceptance and love. The character driven premise is dramatic, edgy and gritty; the romance is seductive; the characters are desperate, often intimidating and captivating. FOREVER DEFIANT ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.
