REVIEW:HIS FURY is the second instalment in Eve L Mitchell’s contemporary, adult FRACTURED LOYALTIES dark, erotic, crime world series focusing on businessman and club owner Zayn McCabe, and event planner Isla Wells. HIS FURY should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up after the events and cliff hanger of book one HER RUIN.

SOME BACKGROUND: Zayn McCabe, Isla Wells, and Isla’s best friend Julian Turner grew up in the same small town but approximately ten years earlier, Zayn McCabe humiliated our story line heroine, and Isla has never forgotten. Fast forward to present day, Zayn has returned to Gracemont, Illinois to open a high end club and event locale, in direct competition with our story line heroine in an effort to destroy her once and for all.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Isla and Zayn) HIS FURY picks ups immediately after the events of HER RUIN in which betrayal by a friend has placed a target on our heroine’s back. Desperate to protect the woman that pushes all of his buttons, Zayn McCabe goes on the proverbial war path, taking down anyone connected to the threat, including a man Isla once trusted and loved but in an effort to secure Isla’s protection, Zayn is about to pay the price for our heroine’s freedom.
The world building focuses on Club Elixir’s grand opening, and the criminal element determined to take control. From crime lords to dirty law enforcement, as well as the questionable friends and family, Zayn and Isla must contend with the ultimate betrayal, while gaining a foothold on their own growing love.
The relationship between Zayn and Isla continues to be somewhat tempestuous but Isla knows Zayn is desperate to keep her protected even though she is often a little TSTL. Desperate to remain independent, Isla often finds herself in a precarious situation but Zayn has ensured there will always be someone around. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
The secondary and supporting characters are questionable and . We are reintroduced to Isla’s best friend Julian Turner, Elixir Club Manager and Zayn’s second in command Rye Nowak who has demons of his own, and the man who struggles with Isla’s place in Zayn’s life; the Grand Hotel owner Gerard Fitzsimmons, foreman Pete, as well as some powerful players in the criminal underworld. Here’s hoping the author has plans for both Rye Nowak, and Julian Turner.
HIS FURY is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, power and control, distrust and fear, acceptance and love. The premise is dramatic and edgy; the romance is fated and provocative; the characters are desperate, strong-willed, tenacious and powerful.
