ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 3, 2026

Ever hear the story about the dating coach who got dumped on the hockey arena’s jumbotron?

Everyone did. But I lived it. Including the moment when the team’s broody, tattooed star Lake Axelrod swooped in on skates to rescue me from public humiliation.

Even more surprising? When the famously grumpy (and ridiculously sexy) hockey player insists on being my fake boyfriend for my sister’s high-profile wedding.

It’s the perfect sweet revenge plan since my ex is the best man. Bonus – I might even salvage my professional reputation.
We need rules though.

To pull this off, everyone from his teammates to my boss has to believe we’re a real couple. That means swoony touches and knee-weakening kisses are required. When it ends, we walk away.

But the intensity in Lake’s eyes after every post-game kiss makes me wonder if he’s pretending. With each whispered secret, the line between fake and real bends. Until it shatters one night in a hotel room. Soon, he isn’t just playing the protective boyfriend—he’s the only one who truly sees me.

If I’m not careful, I’m going to break the most important rule of all: don’t fall for your fake date.

REVIEW:JUST PLAYING FOR KEEPS is the second instalment in Lauren Blakely’s contemporary, adult HOCKEY EVER AFTER erotic, hockey romance series, a spin off set in the author’s Love and Hockey world. This is professional hockey player and widower Lake Axelrod, and romance designer Remy Hatmaker’s story line. JUST PLAYING FOR KEEPS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Lake and Remy) JUST PLAYING FOR KEEPS follows the fake dating and relationship between our story line couple. Remy is a ‘romance designer’ and believing Jameson, her boyfriend of one year, was about to propose, set into motion a series of events that ended with our heroine dumped on the Golden State Foxes jumbotron for all the world to see. Watching the events unfold, hockey player Lake Axelrod swoops in to save the day, finding himself attracted to the woman with whom he will fall in love. Needing a plus one for her friend’s wedding, Remy offers Lake a chance of a lifetime-a date for the wedding but Lake offers up something more.

The world building follows Lake’s hockey career and his friendships, as well as his struggles since the death of his wife but as Remy battles between head and heart, she begins to wonder if the ‘business’ of romance is where she is meant to be. With the approach of Remy’s sister’s wedding, and the prospect of seeing her ex, Remy and Lake’s fake relationships begins to take on a life of its’ own until someone else takes aim at our story line couple.

The relationship between Remy and Lake is a best friend’s brother, fake relationship that will quickly turn into something more but Remy continues to remind Lake that their relationship isn’t real but Remy is starting to believe there is something more. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The secondary and supporting characters are familiar, energetic and fun. We are re-introduced to Remy’s best friend and Lake’s sister Clementine, Corbin and Mabel (Just Breaking the Rules).teammates Ivan , Miller and Riggs; Remy’s sister Caroline and her fiancé Parker, as well as the introduction of podcaster Daniel, and Remy’s ex Jameson.

JUST PLAYING FOR KEEPS is a story of secrets and lies, heart break and betrayal, family and friendships, grief and loss, relationships and love. The character driven premise is entertaining and engaging but a little bit predictable; the romance is seductive and fated; the characters are spirited, energized and charismatic.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date January 19, 2026

Everyone knows the golden rule of business—don’t bang your business partner.Especially if he’s your brother’s hot-as-sin, hockey-star best friend.

But when the sexy single dad athlete saves me from a cake contest catastrophe—and shows me how good he is with his hands—I blurt out the world’s worst business pitch: Want to invest in my bakery?

With no loan or backup plan, this is my last shot at proving I’m more than my past mistakes, and shockingly, he says yes.

We set one rule: don’t mix business with pleasure.Except Corbin Knight’s impossible to resist.

When he’s not scoring goals, he’s staying up late with me to test tempting recipes. Braiding my hair before we bake like it’s foreplay. Giving me his jersey to wear to games.

I try to keep a professional distance from the bossy, possessive and dangerously flirty hockey player, but soon we’re testing the limits of the kitchen counter.

This bakery is my chance to finally get my life right, so I fight the messy feelings. Until one night, he shows up after closing and admits he can’t stop thinking about me.

Suddenly I’m ready to break every rule—no matter the cost to our dreams.

And breaking the rules has never tasted so good.

Corbin

Those last two words echo like a warning—working together.

We are definitely working very closely together, and this—kissing, touching, f*&king—is a recipe for failure.

But when she looks at me like that, lips wet, eyes dark, I can’t bring myself to care about consequences. Not when she’s right here in my arms and I need her so damn badly.

I make quick work of the apron strings, undoing them at her neck as I crush her lips with mine.

Her mouth feels so good, soft and pliant. She moves with me, our tongues skating together. Our moans mingling.

“It feels like forever since I kissed you,” I mutter as I briefly break the kiss, frantically tugging down the apron, exposing the collar of the dress that I bought her.

“A day is a long time,” she teases.

“I didn’t kiss you yesterday.”

She seems to think about that for a few seconds. “You should keep making up for that.”
