The Best Friend’s Guide to Taking Risks by Kadie Scott & Nicole Flockton

Description:
Everyone knows that the biggest risk you can take with your best friend is to cross a certain line.

When it comes to relationships, Hunter Lancing is not a risk taker. Between his parents’ terrible divorce and his own bad decisions, he’s been burned. Computers make more sense to him. Everything has a rule. Everything is defined. Like his computers, his best friend is defined, constant, and comes with rules he won’t break.

Part-time children’s party princess Natalie Morgan dances to the beat of a drum no one else can hear. The only person who truly gets her and is never scared off by her sometimes zany ideas is Hunter. But she has a big problem. Natalie keeps having all these…feelings…for her bestie.

But on a weekend getaway, a game of risky dares and one-upmanship that was supposed to just be for laughs may just end up with both of them crossing the friend zone line.

Review:

The Best Friend’s Guide to Taking Risks by Kadie Scott and Nicole Flockton is a standalone novel. I do like a good friends to lovers read sometimes, and this one hits all the right spots.

Kadie Scott who also writes under the pen name of Abigail Owen ,who writes some amazing paranormal romances (which are some of my all time favourite books). Nicole Flockton is a new author to me, but I think I’ll be visiting her site to see what books she writes. The dual writing doesn’t always work for me, but in this case the reading is easy. Full of descriptions that have you visualizing the story as it unfolds.

Hunter has a well ordered life. After being burnt by previous relationships, it’s safter to have one night stands, that way his heart stays unharmed. The one thing he can rely on is his best friend Natalie, she’d never let him down or hurt him. And so he’d never cross that line (even though he’d thought about it!)

Natalie is just a joy to read, she reminds me of a fairy, spreading joy and glitter wherever she goes ? her job is also her company. She works as a Princess catering for parties, she makes her own costumes and gives it 110% she loves bringing smiles to the partygoers faces, what she doesn’t like is the put downs and snide comments some parents make!

A road trip puts the two characters together in a close environment, he’s looking at relocating to Texas, so a planned visit to the area he might move too seems like a good idea, the downside….. Natalie turns it into a a fun filled weekend with almost kisses and heated glances.

But can Hunter move Natalie out of the friend zone and into a lover he can have forever?

If you want a fun filled, feel good read, then you won’t be sorry if you grab this one. A friends to lovers story that will have you laughing at their antics and keeping fingers crossed for the princess to get her Prince. There is a little angst in here, but nothing worth a trigger.

Loved the karaoke and the dares these two made each other do. I also loved Natalie’s sisters (please can they have books too?) Can the two tell each other how they really feel? Or will they keep each other in the friend zone?

Landing the Lawman by Kadie Scott – a Review

Landing the Lawman by Kadie Scott – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / Google Play / Apple

Description:
He thought he was in control until she snuck into his heart…

Carter Hill walked away from a perfectly fine life and relationship…all for a career she’s chased since she was fourteen. Years and a PhD later, she loves her job as a water rights consultant. At the same time, now that all her brothers are happily married, she’s lonely and wanting more. But the only man in her life is Logan – super serious, no sense of humor, and friend-zoned. Or is he? Perhaps a sexy, no-strings affair with a man more driven than she is could help her move on.

Logan Cartez doesn’t date, do relationships, or worry about commitment. He’s married to his job – making sure what destroyed his family ranch and their legacy doesn’t happen to others. When Carter propositions him, what began as a passionate and unforgettable night soon develops into more. Logan finds himself doing things he swore he never would, and the feisty, brilliant, blue-eyed rancher’s daughter has him thinking about so much more than work.

Review:

Landing the Lawmen by Kadie Scott is the 5th book in her The Texas Hill series, which  can be read in any order, but as the siblings all get married it makes sense to read them the way the author planned.

Carter is the only daughter in the Hill household. Watching her brothers find love, Carter doesn’t regret her decision to leave family and love behind to pursue her dream job. But it’s a lonely life, has she left it to late? Well maybe not, yummy Logan hits all those buttons. An affair might be just the thing they both need…..

Logan doesn’t need love, it makes life messy, he needs to concentrate on saving the little farmers and their rights. And Carter Hill is the right person for the job, (she is a water rights consultant) he just needs to ignore her as a woman, a fine complete package.

With the arrangement of a no-strings affair, both Logan and Carter pursue it wholeheartedly. But when Carter’s mother is taken ill things change for both of them.

I’ve read all of the previous books in this series, and loved them all.

The descriptions the author gives is great. The attention to detail is very good. The characters are funny and the flirting is funny and very light hearted.

Both characters have been hurt in the past, so I see where both Logan and Carter have issues with trust.

I’d happily recommend this book.

Review:

Claiming the Cowboy for Christmas by Kadie Scott is the 4th book in her The Hills of Texas series.  Ashley is glad to be home, she’s missed her family, especially her twin Taylor. Two years has been long enough. But if she stays that’s a whole different matter.

Taylor is marrying Ashley’s ex!!! Could that be anymore awkward? To outsiders and Taylor, yes it is, but to Ashley, her and Eric broke up a long time ago. She’s moved on, she’s happy for the couple, the only reason she stayed away…..  to give the gossips time to move on….. no such luck!!! Ashley is met with awkward silences and pitying looks!!

Taking Taylor out on her bachelorette party is an ideal way to put the gossips to bed for go. But as it goes from bad to worse, Ashley is wanting to head back to Dallas, pretty darn quick. Thank goodness she’s only here till the New Year, surely she can survive till then?

Jennings Hill has always loved Ashley, from the first day at preschool until the day she dumped him to be with Eric. They were best friends, did everything together, and then he had to watch his best friend change to please the boyfriend. So to hide his feelings from everyone (including himself) he began to antagonise Ashley. Never getting close to her. But that’s all about to change, dancing with Ashley has set the gossips in motion. What’s a guy to do? Does he help an old friend out? Or does he just walk away and leave her to deal with it?

Jennings asks Ashley if she’ll looking into a case of fraud for him, and Ashley quickly agrees, they might not be friends now, but they were a long time ago.

The more time they spend together, the more Ashley sees him in a different light. Yes, she may have had a slight crush on him, but he was her best friend, she really shouldn’t be imaging him in that way!!!

Jennings on the other hand thinks Ashley still isn’t over Eric!! He’s frustrated, why can’t she see what’s in front of her?

So ……will Ashley stay in Texas? Will she convince Jennings that she is totally over Eric? And will Eric finally get the girl he has always longed for?

One daring kiss with the playboy tempts the good girl, but can she tame him?

Autry Hill may be a cowboy to his boots, but he’s also gained quite the reputation as a charmer and playboy. His parents aren’t sure he’s ready to take the reins of the family’s prosperous Texas ranch, so they set up a challenge: No women or scandal for the next six months and the ranch house he grew up in is his. Easy peasy, Autry thinks. He’s already tired of late nights and romancing, until elementary school teacher Beth Cooper happens to cross his path. Good girl teacher Beth Cooper is far too practical to fall for Autry Hill, even if she had a crush on him way back when. The man’s been breaking hearts since middle school. But when he becomes her unexpected champion and then they work together to help one of Beth’s troubled students who’s about to lose everything, she sees a different side of Autry – serious, compassionate, determined and dedicated. And that Autry is nearly impossible to resist. Does she need to?

Review:

Taming the Troublemaker by Kadie Scott is the 3rd book in her The Hills of Texas series.

I’ve read the other books in this series, but you don’t need to worry, as each one is a stand-alone, not an ongoing story. We do catch up with previous characters from the other two books, but it only adds to the story.

Autry is ready to take the reins of the family ranch. But his family thinks he’s not ready, his playboy past hasn’t convinced them, but they plan to change his ways. They give him an ultimatum….. clean up your act, stay out of trouble for six months and ranch is yours.

Easy ….. well …. it would be if it wasn’t for a series of meetings with a certain teacher. He’s never really noticed Beth much, her two sisters were always the Center of attention, but helping out at the local school Autry sees Beth in a different light….. but a deal is a deal, so Autry can’t act on his feelings, but surely a few kisses won’t hurt ?

Beth loves her job, she’s a good teacher, but she has a problem …..well she has a problem child at school. She needs help, and that comes in the shape of her school crush Autry, (he never noticed the plain Jane, her two sisters were far prettier than she could ever be) community service sees him helping her, and together they help the kid.

So will Autry break his no women for six months promise to his dad and lose the ranch, or will Beth be worth the risk ?  You will need to read this book to find out.

The Wrong Kind of Compatible by Kadie Scott – a Review

The Wrong Kind of Compatible by Kadie Scott – a Review

The Wrong Kind of CompatibleAmazon / B&N / Kobo / BAM / Book Depository

Description:
Data analyst Cassie Howard may be brilliant (and, okay, a little awkward), but she’s worked hard to get where she is. She definitely doesn’t need some sexy new analyst coming in and taking credit for her work. Or the inappropriate thoughts that keep popping out of her mouth she’d rather he not hear.

For undercover FBI agent Drew Kerrigan, computers have always made more sense than people, but he’d better develop some slick social skills in a hurry if he’s going to win over the too-tantalizing-for-his-sanity Cassie. Hacking their systems was easy. Now he’s just got to hack the one person in the company most likely to see through his ruse…

Review:

The Wrong Kind of Compatible by Kadie Scott is the 1st book in her Love Undercover series.  Cassie Howard is a data analyst for a government contractor. She is a woman who simply doesn’t do good, she has to excel or go home, she is focused on an analysis that will take the company she works for to an even higher level, but she is lacking all social skills, I love the fact she has no “inner voice” all she says just comes out of her mouth.

Drew is the new computer whiz hired to help her make that happen – who also happens to be one of the best hackers in the world.  But Drew Kerrigan is an undercover FBI agent investigating shady dealings at Cassie’s work place.  He’s also a lovable nerd.

And guess who is his prime suspect for the shady dealings ….. none other than Data Minds’ prodigy data analyst, Cassie. As Cassie and Drew bond over a love of Star Wars and codes, can Drew uncover the real criminal? And what will Cassie say once she knows who her new love actually is ?

The quirky dialogue of these characters will have you cracking up….Holy smoking hotness, Batman. No computer nerd has a right to look like that.” “Computers he got…  Interactions with people took effort.” Wait? Did I say that one out loud?”

Romance, comedy and a little mystery; The Wrong Kind of Compatible has a little bit of everything.  I really enjoyed these characters. And would recommend you read it and laugh along with Cassie and Drew.
