Description:
Norah Pax loves working behind the scenes for her family’s Rocky Mountain bounty-hunting business. But unlike her adrenaline-junkie sisters, she only enjoys chasing down a skip from the safety of her laptop. She has all the computer skills she could want, but her fighting technique is lacking–so when all hands are needed, she dredges up her courage to ask surly MMA expert Dashiell Porter to teach her everything she needs to know. Dash may be terrifying to most, but his unexpected gentleness makes her feel safe, and it isn’t long before things begin heating up.

Dash is used to people slowly backing away when he enters a room, but a certain beautiful bounty hunter’s earnest trust throws him off guard…and catches his attention. Yet as the two throw punches and awkwardly flirt, vultures circle. Every criminal in town has turned against the Pax girls, and they’re willing to hit them where they’re (supposedly) weakest: Norah. To keep herself and her family safe, Norah will need every new skill that Dash teaches her.

Good thing that Dash is ready to do whatever it takes to protect the gentle-yet-fierce bounty hunter who stole his heart.

Review:

Crossing Paths by Katie Ruggle is the 2nd book in her Beneath the Wild Sky series. We meet Norah Pax, who works for her family’s Rocky Mountain Bounty Hunting business. Norah is happy in her work using her computer, which is unlike her other sisters who have no problems finding the criminals.  Norah decides to gather her courage to learn how to fight, and gets MMA expert Dashiell Porter to teach her all that she needs to know; especially since her sisters think of her as a weak link.

Dash knew what she needed, to help her learn to challenge herself to be comfortable in fighting enemies. Though Dash pushes her to the max, Norah is surprised by his gentleness and showing how he makes her feel safe.  Dash becomes very protective in helping and protecting Norah, and soon a relationship grows. The chemistry between them sizzles, with both falling for each other. In a short time, Norah begins to learn how to fight the criminals, using all the skills she learned over time. It was fun to see Norah slowly defeat those enemies, whom she is trying to find.  Despite all criminals have turned against the Pax girls, Norah is the one who is they try to hurt her; especially getting Dash and her to find the two stalkers. To keep her family safe, Norah will learn all the new skills that Dash teaches her.

I thought it was cute to see her sisters teasing her, as well as her slow burn romance with Dash. I also loved how Dash made sure to be there every time to protect Norah, in helping her find the criminals. I really loved Norah and Dash together, as they made a terrific couple.

Crossing Paths was a wonderful, exciting, suspenseful, romantic mystery that kept me glued to my kindle.  I adored both Norah and Dash. Crossing Paths was very well written by Katie Ruggle.  This was a fun story, which I suggest you read.

Review:

The Scenic Route by Katie Ruggle is the 1st book in her new series, Beneath the Wild Sky. All of the 5 Pax sisters run a bounty hunter bail and recovery business; and their mother has recently stolen an expensive necklace, and has disappeared.  We meet Felicity Pax, our heroine, who loves her job as a bounty hunter, which gives her lots of excitement and fun. With her sister Molly, still searching for their mother, Felicity decides to head to Simpson, Colorado to chase a skip; and knows that her stalker continues to follow her.

Bennett Green, our hero, is a private investigator, who has been hired to find Jane Pax, and the necklace she stole.  He closely follows Felicity, as she knows he is tailing her.  When Felicty arrives in Simpson, Colorado, she stops at local coffee shop, and meets the waitress, Lou; who learns she is a bounty hunter. After a short time, Bennett walks in, and Felicity tells Lou that he is a stalker. But slowly, Bennett moves close to Felicity, helping her find the person she is looking for.  Lou excitingly calls her friends (Simpson Murder Club), to meet Felicity and join them in helping them find where the skip is hiding.

Unable to get a room, Felicity and Bennett stay overnight in the car, and soon they discover the person they want, and end up in Las Vegas, where they team up together, as Bennett becomes the partner she really needed.    In a short time, the relationship between Felcity and Bennett escalates, as the chemistry between them was sizzling.

What follows is an exciting, non-stop action-packed adventure with Felicity and Bennett working together, against a dangerous escaped criminal putting themselves in harms way.  I really liked the story line, and all the characters. I loved how Bennett and Felicity became a great team.  I also enjoyed Lou and her Simpson Murder Club friends, with the husbands helping them out.  It was an exciting story line, that was so much fun.

The Scenic Route was a captivating, enjoyable and heartwarming story.  Felicity, Bennett and all the endearing characters at the coffee shop were all entertaining.   The Scenic Route was a fun, exciting, action-packed story, with some very good characters.  The Scenic Route was very well written by Katie Ruggle.  I suggest you read The Scenic Route.

Description:
Why date a mountain man? Because he knows how to pitch a tent. When Dahlia Weathersby’s sister disappears on what should have been a simple day hike, Dahlia immediately heads deep into the Colorado Rockies to find her. Knowing she’ll never survive the mountains alone, she convinces the local hermit―adorably grouchy survival expert Winston Dane―to be her guide. All it takes is a good helping of Dahlia’s charm…and just the teeniest bit of blackmail…before she’s got all six-foot-something of him wrapped around her finger. But even with her very own mountain man in tow, things aren’t going to be easy. There With everything the wilderness has to throw at them, it’ll take more than charm and some city girl ingenuity to make this trek anything but a disaster waiting to happen…and an adventure she’ll never forget.

Review:

Fish Out of Water by Katie Ruggle is a fun romantic standalone novel. We meet Dahlia Weathersby, our heroine, at the start, when she receives a danger message from her sister, Rose.  Dahlia immediately leaves her California home to fly to Howling Falls Colorado to rescue Rose. Dahlia knows she needs someone to help rescue her sister, and decides to get Winston Dane, a local hermit, who is an expert survivalist.

Winston is very private, and has many booby traps to protect his place from any visitors.  Dahlia, who is very outgoing, puts on her charm to Winston, who at first wants nothing to do with her need of help.  Using her bubbly personality, she convinces him to help her, and Winston prepares everything they will need for both of them, including survival food & water, heavy clothes/hats and sleeping bags. The next day, Winston will lead them into the wilderness, hiking through the mountains, as they follow the map to lead them to where Rose may be.

Dahlia finds herself attracted to Winston, especially with his grunts and some smiles; slowly Winston gets used to Dahlia’s constant talking and hilarious fun, becoming very comfortable in her presence.  The long trek is difficult, especially with the bitter cold and blizzard; with Dahlia pushing herself into Winston’s bigger sleeping bag to get warm. The banter and chemistry between them were great, and in no time, Winston, who turned into a sweetheart, fully falls for Dahlia.  The chemistry between them escalates, with a steamy scene in Winston’s large sleeping bag.  I really loved both Dahlia and Winston together, as they made an adorable couple.

As we get closer to the end, there is a lot of action, with them rescuing Rose, and threats on their lives. Fish Out of Water was a lot of fun and humor, with a terrific couple, a trek throughout the wilderness, as well as the dangerous rescue.  Overall, the story was hilarious and so much fun, with some steam.

Fish Out of Water was so very well written by Katie Ruggle. Dahlia was a great character, being bubbly and fun.  Winston, after a slow start, turned out to be adorable.  The banter between them turned out to be fantastic story.  I thought Katie Ruggle outdid herself with this fun and entertaining story line.  I wholly suggest you read Fish Out of the Water.

Rocky Mountain Bounty Hunters:
In Her Sights (Book 1)
Risk It All (Book 2)

Review:

Risk it All by Katie Ruggle is the 2nd book in her Rocky Mountain Bounty Hunters series.  This series revolves around 5 Pax sisters who run a bail recovery business, with them also being bounty hunters.  The girls are in need of money, as their mother has run away and stolen not only an expensive necklace, their car and put them deep in debt.   Cara Pax, our heroine, prefers to leave the bounty hunter part to her sisters, and instead help with doing the research.   While two sisters are away searching for the mother, Cara takes it upon herself to find one of the skips (bail runaways) at a bar, where she ends up being rescued by the skip.

Henry Kavenski, our hero, is trying to prove his innocence and knows that Cara is one of the bounty hunters looking for him, even if she is totally inexperienced.  Henry takes it upon himself to save Cara, and continue to keep an eye on her, as she foolishly gets herself into trouble looking for another dangerous skip.  In a short time, Cara, begins to feel an attraction to Henry, and begins to realize that he is innocent; Henry also knows he is falling for Cara, especially since she believes his innocence.  But Henry has his hands full protecting her, as Cara gets kidnapped and Henry needs to find a way to rescue her and get them both out of danger.

What follows is an exciting, non-stop action-packed adventure that was intense throughout most the book from start to finish.  Even though the slow burn romance was part of the story line, it did take a back seat to the wild crazy trouble Cara kept finding herself in.  I loved Cara, as she made a fun, sweet, brave heroine, and Henry was pretty good himself; they were equally terrific characters.

I really liked the story line, love the premise of this series, as well as the 5 sisters working together.  Risk it All is a wonderful exciting and intense story that kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time.  Once again Katie Ruggle gives us another fabulous romance suspense story filled with action, excitement, suspense, with wonderful characters.  I suggest you read this series, and start with the first book, in order to meet all the sisters.

Review:

In Her Sights by Katie Ruggle is the 1st book in her new Rocky Mountain Bounty Hunters series. I have read all of Katie Ruggle’s Rocky Mountain series.  I was looking forward to reading this new one, and I am  happy to say I enjoyed it.

Molly Pax, our heroine, lives at home with her sisters, who all work with her as bounty hunters in their bail recovery business.  Molly is the eldest sister, and the leader of the team, making ends meet, since their mother, who does nothing but make problems for the girls, and stealing their money or car.

Molly is on a case to find a person who has escaped bail, and runs into John Carmondy, a rival bounty hunter and our hero.  John seems to like Molly, and would like her to join his bail business, but Molly does everything to avoid him.  When she catches the person, and goes home to her sister with much needed money, things change.  When the mother becomes involved in a robbery, puts their home as collateral to get out of jail, and goes into hiding, and steals Molly’s car;  the sisters are desperate to find her before they lose everything.

What follows is an exciting and action packed adventure where Molly is forced to work with John, on a dangerous case to find an escaped murderer on bail.  It is a case no one wants, and the man is evil and extremely impossible to catch, killing anything in his way; but they are desperate for the money they will make if they bring back the culprit.  The sisters have to split themselves, with two sisters trying to find their mother (before they lose the house) and the other two working with Molly and John to find the bad guy.

I really liked the story line, and all the characters.  I felt until half way through the book, that Molly was a bit too rude to John, as he was always pleasant and willing to help the family.  During the last half she did change and began to fall for John, who already cared deeply for Molly, despite her behavior.   The romance between them was slow built, but in the end they made a great team and couple.

In Her Sights was a very good start to the Rocky Mountain Bounty Hunter series, and I look forward to future books that will revolve around the other sisters.  Katie Ruggle once again has captured my attention with an exciting new series.  This was a fun, exciting, action packed story, with some very good characters. I suggest you read In Her Sights.

Review:

Run to Ground by Katie Ruggle is the 1st book in her new Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit series.  We meet Jules, our heroine, at the start working in the local diner.  Jules has run away with her siblings from a nasty step mother and has settled in the Colorado Rockies, with new identities.  We do get flashbacks about Jules,  showing us their escape, and how she received her new identities from her former employer.  I was not a fan of the flashbacks, but that fortunately they did not last long.

We also meet Theo, our hero, who is a cop on the K-9 squad.  While Theo is having breakfast with his cop buddies, he notices the new waitress, and decides to quiz her.  At the start, and through at least half of the book, Theo was very grumpy and moody, causing me not to like him too much.  He recently lost his partner to a suicide, and Viggy, the K-9 dog, who is now with Theo, was also badly affected by that suicide.  Theo constantly badgered Jules to find out more information, suspecting she might be running from something.   That begins to change when Theo becomes attracted to the sweet Jules, and meets her wonderful siblings.  Theo takes it upon himself to help fix up the cabin they are living in, giving him the chance to spend more time with them.  What follows is a slow build romance that grows over time, and also lightens Theo into a more likeable character.

Viggy, the trained dog for explosives, is now gun shy and Theo cannot get him to do the work of a K-9 dog; but he becomes such a cute and happy dog when he meets Dee and Jules other siblings.  I loved how he was with the kids.

In the midst of the romance, the sweet family & Viggy, the suspense and action within the story was exciting and very well done.  Besides worrying that she will be discovered, Jules life also becomes more dangerous when her life is threatened by an unknown villain. The last 1/3 of the book was filled with action and suspense, as well as the heating up of Theo and Jules relationship.

There was a couple of things I felt should have been better handled.  Though this is a series, and Ruggle usually continues the flow into the next book, I did feel that Jules should have told Theo the truth about her having run away from her abusive stepmother.  I also felt the Theo was too unlikeable for a bit too long early on, even if he did become better later.  Besides that, overall the story was good, and I did love Jules, her siblings and Viggy.  The epilogue opens things up for more adventure to look for in the next book of this series.

Her shoulders lifting and dropping again in a sigh, Jules stiffened her spine. She just needed to be confident. She also needed to not let the cop’s air of authority—as well as his muscled forearms and pretty dark-brown eyes—reduce her to the babbling idiot she’d become the last time he’d been at the diner. For goodness’ sake, she’d messed up her name. Her name. If she wanted to survive in her new life, she needed to step up her game. Firming her jaw, she picked up a coffeepot and headed to Theo’s table.
He watched her, his frown deepening with each step, and she fought the urge to slow or, better yet, turn tail and run.
“Morning.” She turned the mug in front of him right side up with shaky fingers. His wary eyes—almost black and alarmingly perceptive—took in everything, including, she was sure, her obvious unease. “Did you need a menu?”
Jules caught herself before he could respond.
“Sorry.” Her flush prickled her chest and moved up to her face to warm her cheeks. “Of course you don’t need a menu. You probably know everything on there by now. Well, I’m guessing you do. I’ve only seen you here once, but Megan mentioned you’re a regular.”
Abruptly, Jules stopped talking. More of the nervous babble pressed on her lungs, wanting out. Afraid to open her mouth again in case she started talking and wasn’t able to stop until she told this man—this police officer!—everything he shouldn’t know, she forced a smile and stayed quiet. She was turning out to be a terrible felon.
“Number three,” he said after another pause just long enough to make her uncomfortable. “Scrambled.”
“Got it.” Jules scribbled down the order, relieved to have something to focus on other than his too-intense gaze. He looked at her like he could see everything about her, and there were so many things she wanted to keep hidden. When she glanced up, she kept her eyes away from his, focusing on his left earlobe instead. “That’ll be right out.”
After picking up the coffeepot again, she began to turn around, relieved. A sound behind her, something halfway between a masculine grunt and a throat clearing, made her stop reluctantly. Jules focused on his other earlobe this time, trying not to show her renewed panic. “Was there something else you needed?”
“Where are you staying?” He bit off each word, making him sound like he was angry he had to speak to her.
The mild, unfocused fear blossomed into terror. Why was he asking? Was he investigating her? His frown deepened when she took a beat too long to answer, and she rushed out her response. “Um…in Monroe.”
“Where?”
Her paranoia was feeding her panic, and she gave a vague wave toward the north. “On the edge of town.”
If he narrowed his eyes any more, he’d be squinting. “The blue house off of Orchard Street?”
“No.” Her feet moved of their own volition, and she took a step toward the door. This job was too important for her to run out on her second day, but the cop’s questioning was pushing her to the point where she just wanted to escape, paycheck or no paycheck.
“The old Garmitt place, then.” It was a statement instead of a question, and the accuracy of the guess made her eyes widen despite herself. Jules knew fear and guilt must be plastered all over her face. “Heard someone had moved in there.”
“Uh…” Her mind raced as she scrambled to think of the best way to respond, to save this conversation from the quickly approaching crash and burn heading her way. “I’m not sure.” She barely caught herself before closing her eyes in exasperation. That was her clever save?
“Your address is Thirty-Two Blank Hill Lane.” Again, he said what should’ve been a question with such certainty that it came out as a statement of fact. “Did you buy it?”
“No.” Running was beginning to sound better and better. Jules was willing to do pretty much anything to get away from this man, this cop, who knew too much already.
“You rent then?” At her nod, he studied her. She stared back, determined not to say more. Every line in his body was held tightly, from the hard line of his mouth to his forearms to his erect spine. “What brings you to town?” he finally asked.
Her mouth opened, but nothing emerged as her thoughts bounced against each other in a chaotic mess. “This job?” Her voice was pitched too high, and the end of her sentence rose, turning it into a question. Jules resisted the urge to smack herself. Between her twitchy behavior and asinine answers, she knew that, even if he hadn’t been suspicious before, he would know for sure now that something wasn’t right. Her shoulders curled in as she wished for the power of invisibility. Either that or better acting skills—or any acting skills.
“What the hell, Theo?” Megan appeared out of nowhere, grasping Jules’s elbow and tugging. Although she jumped initially, Jules relaxed and allowed herself to be pulled a few steps away from the extremely awkward conversation—or interrogation? “I finally find an employee who can do basic math and doesn’t spit on people’s eggs, and she’s the one you inflict yourself on? Drink your coffee and be all broody, like you normally are. Quietly broody.”
The tiny muscle in Theo’s jaw pulsed with tension. Jules didn’t breathe as she waited for him to react. There was strained silence for several seconds before Theo spoke.
“Which one spits?”
“You missed my point.” Whatever else Megan was going to say was interrupted by the thump of the front entrance as it closed behind some new customers. “Be right with you!” Her gaze never left Theo’s face. In turn, he never looked away or flinched. The non-panicked corner of Jules’s brain was impressed with both of them.
“What’s up?” Another cop came to a stop next to the booth, reaching to gently bump Theo’s shoulder with his fist. Although the newcomer was wearing a congenial smile, there was a coiled tension to him. The way he placed his body almost, but not quite, between them and Theo said a lot. It was protective in a got-your-back kind of way, but it also showed that Theo had the lead, that the new guy wasn’t taking over the situation.
“Theo’s scaring my new waitress.” Megan’s glare shot toward the new arrival. “The one who can do math.”
“And doesn’t spit.” Theo’s deadpan delivery made Jules start, and an unbidden smile curled her mouth. Their gazes met, and the cop’s eyes seemed to soften for the shortest of moments. Even before Jules was certain she saw it, it was gone.
“Are those your only hiring qualifications? Adding, subtracting, and saliva control? T, maybe we need to look for a new place for our breakfast meetings.” There was humor in the cop’s voice, although his gaze was ready and watchful, moving from Theo to Megan to Jules.
Turning toward the kitchen while keeping a firm grip on Jules’s arm, Megan said over her shoulder, “Your food is safe, Hugh.”
