REVIEW: OPEN ROAD is the fifth instalment in Kathleen Kelly’s contemporary, adult RBMC: JACKSONVILLE FL MC romance series, part of the multi-authored RBMC. This is MC nomad Roam, and singled mother Janie Dawson’s story line. OPEN ROAD can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary .

Told from three first person perspectives (Roam, Janie, Winchester) OPEN ROAD follows the building relationship between our story line couple. Janie Dawson is on the run with her three year old daughter, having left an abusive relationship in the middle of the night but when the car breaks down, Janie has no place to go but the help of the man with whom she will fall in love. Roam is a nomad, and has never thought to put down roots but rescuing Janie Dawson and her three year old daughter Rose, gives Roam pause for the future but Rose’s past is about to collide with the RBMC, when they discover a connection to someone else.

The world building focuses on the protection and integration of Janie and her daughter Rose. Janie struggles to trust although she is quick to accept Roam’s help and protection but it is her daughter Rose that is the catalyst to melt the ice around Roam’s heart, a man who never thought about his future beyond his next ride.

The relationship between Roam and Janie begins as a roadside rescue. Roam sees immediately that all is not well in Janie’s life, and becomes guardian and protector of the woman that will call to his heart. The $ex scenes are limited but passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, energetic and dynamic secondary and supporting characters including most of the previous story line couples. We are introduced to Janie’s ex Craig as well as a questionable business partner that takes aim at the RBMC.

OPEN ROAD is a story of introspection, self-examination, and contemplation as Janie must deal with the fall-out of her marriage and her husband’ s business actions, as well as Roam’s desire to settle down with our story line heroine. The premise is dramatic and edgy; the romance is limited but seductive; the characters are desperate, determined and charismatic.

The return of the Dragons MC and the Black Veil Syndicate comes with an early warning from Vengeance, a member of the Dragons MC, but a man who has sworn to protect our story line heroine. The world building is fast and furious as Vengeance’s arrival comes within days of Savage’s demise. Vengeance is determined to protect the woman he can never forget, a memory from years earlier that left our hero a shell of his former self but Vengeance’s true identity is about to threaten our heroine’s trust, a trust she isn’t willing to give at the cost of her life.

The relationship between Chloe and Vengeance begins acrimoniously. Bowie, Dallas and Chloe do not trust our story line hero, a man who is keeping secrets, that once revealed, threatened any chance of a happily ever after. As our couple struggle to stay one step ahead, Vengeance finds himself falling for a woman who could break his heart. The $ex scenes are limited but passionate.

The secondary and supporting characters are energetic, familiar and sometimes questionable. We are introduced to Doc Mercer, Dragon MC president Dante Manzo, his second in command Lucius, as well as the return of Bowie and Dallas.

VENGEANCE is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, power and control, family and grief, acceptance and love. The character driven premise is dramatic, gritty and revealing; the romance is seductive and fated; the characters are desperate, determined and charismatic.

Brandi is determined to make it on her own after a contentious divorce but our heroine becomes the target of the Viper’s MC, who are determined to make Reacher pay for getting too close.

The world building is fast and furious, covering several months in the life of our couple. Reacher is hoping Brandi is his happily ever after, while Brandi is taking one day at a time in the face of keeping her job or losing it all.

The relationship between Brandi and Reacher begins acrimoniously when first introduced. Neither one trusts the other, and Brandi has already experienced the kind of betrayal that hurts the most. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The secondary and supporting characters are engaging and desperate. We are introduced to Yonker’s mother Gloria, as well as the return of several members of the RBMC: Yonkers NY- President Hurricane, Beast, Ryder and Renegade. The requisite evil has many faces.

REACHER’S RIDE OR DIE is a fast paced, quick read; a story of betrayal and vengeance, power and control, acceptance and love The premise is dramatic and edgy; the romance is passionate; the characters are determined and dynamic.

This is Yonkers aka Chris, and Wren’s story line. LOST IN YONKERS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary .

Told from dual omniscient third person perspectives (Yonkers and Wren) LOST IN YONKERS follows in the wake of a one-night stand between our story line couple. Wren is the sister of Blade, and best friend to Blade’s girlfriend Trixie (Blade’s Christmas Ride) but when Trixie’s stalker also targeted our story line heroine, Blade ordered Yonkers to look after his sister but one night of romance ends when Yonkers is called back home to New York, leaving a heart broken Wren in his wake. Fast forward five months, Wren is pregnant, and is desperate to contact our story line hero. Arriving in New York, Wren surprises Yonkers with news about her pregnancy, news that Yonkers struggles to accept or understand. What ensues is the building relationship between Wren and Yonkers, and the potential fall-out as Yonkers continues to struggle with his relationship with Wren, and his mother’s illness that originally called him home.

The world building is fast and furious. LOST IN YONKERS introduces the RBMC: Yonkers Chapter as well as one man’s struggle with family and love.

The relationship between Chris and Wren begins as a one-night stand but Wren has lusted after Chris since the first time they met. Chris is a man who is battling between head and heart, taking care of his ailing mother, and the woman that is calling to his heart. The $ex scenes are intimate without the use of over the top ,sexually graphic language and text but saying that I felt no palpable sexual attraction between our story line couple.

The secondary and supporting characters include Blade and Trixie, as well as Yonkers, mother, and the introduction of RBMC: Yonkers president Hurricane, and Reacher.

LOST IN YONKERS is a quick read; a fast paced, short story of secrets and lies, forgiveness and acceptance, family and love. The premise is entertaining but something is missing. There is no external conflict, and the back and forth between Wren and Yonkers is stilted and cold. The romance is subtle. LOST IN YONKERS includes a couple of chapters from HURRICANE’S HOUSE, books one in the author’s spin off-RBMC: YONKERS, as well as a couple of chapters SALACIOUS, book one in the author’s new KINK CLUB series.
