REVIEW:The next addition in the Don’t Date Him series by Lani Lynn Vale is here. Not a Side Chick is a small-town, slow burn romance filled with action, heat and secrets. Each book in the series can be read as a standalone in the interconnected series, but as always I recommend reading in order to get the most out of it.
In this book we have Edith “Eddy” and Weaver, two people that shoulder more than they should, who carry secrets that could rock the very foundation of their small, sleepy town. Eddy’s parents are hiding things from her, and when she uncovers their secrets she is shocked, but determined to make things right. As she starts to slowly uncover more, danger lurks in every corner. That’s when Weaver makes his debut. Weaver, a man that wears his own secrets plan as day on his face, a man no stranger to danger, but just the man to possibly help keep Eddy safe. As they draw closer, both Eddy and Weaver uncover not only the truth behind the town and its secrets but also the truth about one another. A truth they neither of them are ready for.
Ms. Author, how I adore how your beautiful brain works! Eddy is a true hometown sweet heart and Weaver is just what she needs. This story is the way it is because of the emotional angst and depth of its characters. Each of them is layered with so many things that once you think you have them figured out, you’re pulling back another layer and learning something new. This is the best kind of slow burn, yes you wait for the spicy scenes, but trust me when I say, the wait is worth it. If you’re looking for something to sink your teeth into, this is the weekend for it.
