A deadly mission. A stolen legacy. A love neither of them saw coming.

Lady Veronica Standwick has spent years proving she is more than another woman waiting for rescue. As a spy for the Underground, she has learned to trust no one and guard her heart with the same precision she guards the Crown’s secrets. But when she locates the lost heir to the Saltersford dukedom, those iron barriers begin to crack.

James Dunning is a quiet schoolteacher who believes shaping young minds is the greatest adventure he will ever have. When a sharp-tongued beauty arrives at his door claiming he is the lost heir to a dukedom, he thinks she has lost her mind. But the proof she carries is undeniable. And so is the woman holding it.

As James adjusts to his new life as a duke, the mystery of why he was kidnapped as a child brings on a new danger—an assassin wanting to take his life. As Veronica fights to keep him alive, James finds the red-headed beauty impossible to read and harder to look away from. For Veronica, the allure of James awakens a feeling she thought long buried: love. But the secret she hides may destroy them both before his enemies ever get the chance.

Lady Veronica’s Lost Gem, Book 6 of the six-book Riddle Sisters series, is a sweet and clean Regency romance with a guaranteed happily ever after. Perfect for fans of Sarah M. Eden and Julie Klassen.

REVIEW: Lady Veronica’s Lost Gem is thrilling conclusion to The Riddle Sisters series, a sweet, clean Regency romance that perfectly blends espionage, mystery, and opposites/attract love.

As book 6, it wraps up the overarching family secrets and conspiracies while giving the fiercely independent Lady Veronica her own well deserved happily ever after.

Lady Veronica Standwick is no damsel in distress. She’s a skilled spy for the Underground, hardened by years of guarding Crown secrets and trusting no one. Her ironclad emotional walls have served her well, until her latest mission leads her straight to James Dunning, a quiet, unassuming schoolteacher who turns out to be the long lost heir to a dukedom! When Veronica arrives at his door with undeniable proof of his true identity, James’s peaceful life of shaping young minds is upended in the most dramatic way possible!

What follows is a delightful rags to riches journey as James navigates his new role as duke, complete with etiquette training from the sharp tongued Veronica. The chemistry sparks immediately through their opposites attract dynamic…. she’s all fiery determination and guarded vulnerability, while he’s steady, kind, and seems to genuine.

As danger escalates, an assassin targeting the new duke, plus the lingering mystery of James’s childhood kidnapping, Veronica must protect him while fighting the unexpected pull of her own heart. James, in turn, sees through her defenses and gently pushes past every barrier she’s built. 🥰

Veronica is a strong, capable, and layered, character, yet her buried longing for love makes her vulnerable. James is the perfect counterbalance, patient and honorable, with a quiet strength that proves far more compelling than any rakish charm.

Their romance builds naturally through shared danger, stolen moments, and mutual respect, staying true to the clean/sweet style with tender kisses and heartfelt connection rather than explicit content. The spy elements add welcome suspense and intrigue without overwhelming the central love story. The author ties up the series’ loose ends beautifully, delivering satisfying resolutions for the Riddle sisters while keeping the focus on Veronica and James.

As the finale, Lady Veronica’s Lost Gem feels like a warm, rewarding send off to a beloved series. It’s low angst overall, with just enough tension from the assassination plot and Veronica’s internal struggles to keep pages turning.

If you’re looking for a clean Regency romance with a clever spy heroine, a kind hearted hero who rises to the occasion, secret heir vibes, and gentle opposites attract sparks, this one is a gem. It stands well on its own but is even richer after following the previous Riddle Sisters books.

Highly enjoyable and a perfect palate cleanser after reading some of the stuff I’ve read 😜

I loved seeing Veronica finally let someone definitely a series highlight!

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date December 30, 2025

A dangerous truth. A guarded protector. A love she never believed was meant for her.

Lady Arianna Riddle has never been the one people remember. The youngest sister. The practical one. The girl who learned early that quiet was safer than noticed. But when a letter from her late father meant for her late mother lands in her hands, dismissal turns to danger. Someone wants that letter. And they want Arianna silenced.

Christian Ashcombe has learned not to let anyone too close. Working for The Underground has cost him more than most would understand, and trust is a luxury he cannot afford. When he watches Lady Arianna receive a letter at a ball, he knows exactly what it means. And exactly how much danger she is in. He meant to take the letter and disappear. Instead, he takes her.

The dark-haired beauty he noticed from across the ballroom becomes the woman he must keep hidden. But the naive debutante he expected proves to be something else entirely. She is sharp-minded, observant, and the only person who can decipher what her father left behind.

What begins as a mission becomes something far more complicated. For Christian, her mind unlocks clues he has been chasing for years. And for Arianna, he is the first person who needs her for more than her dowry. Somewhere between mistrust and partnership, two people who thought they knew their place in the world discover they were never meant to remain invisible.

But the secret in that letter holds more than answers. It holds the power to destroy the fragile bond neither of them meant to build. And as danger closes in, they must decide whether trust, earned the hard way, is worth the risk.

REVIEW: Lady Arianna’s Secret Spy, is the fifth installment in Jennifer Monroe’s Riddle Sisters series. I’ve read a few and I’ve liked what I read.

As a standalone (though familiarity with the series enhances the family dynamics), it delivers exactly what fans of sweet, closed door historical romances like.

It has high emotional stakes, intriguing suspense, and a heartfelt slow burn connection between two guarded souls.

Lady Arianna Riddle, the often overlooked youngest sister, is a great character. She’s not the glittering debutante or the bold rebel, no, she’s the quiet, observant one who’s learned to fade into the background for safety.

Arianna’s sharp mind and understated courage shine as she deciphers her father’s cryptic letter, turning what could have been a passive “damsel” role into one of active partnership.

Enter Christian Ashcombe, the brooding spy hero with a tragic past and a no nonsense demeanor.

His initial plan to snatch the letter and vanish quickly evolves into a protective (and reluctant) kidnapping, setting up one of my favourite tropes, the classic “forced proximity”. Christian’s layers peel away slowly, he’s jaded from his work with “The Underground,” yet Arianna’s quiet resilience chips at his walls. Their banter is witty without being overt, and the tension between mistrust and mutual reliance had me unable to leave this story alone.

The plot weaves intrigue and suspense into the Regency setting…. a mysterious letter threatening national secrets, shadowy pursuers, and hidden safehouses. Danger lurks without veering into graphic territory, and the mystery unfolds at a brisk pace.

What I really liked about this book was the characters, they protagonists start as “invisible” figures, Arianna overshadowed by her sisters, Christian isolated by his secrets. But they “see” one another and recognise lost souls.

Overall, clever heroines, and protective heroes, this is a winner.

It’s perfect for a cozy afternoon read that leaves you smiling.

Highly recommended for fans of the series or anyone seeking a low angst, Regency romance with a dash of spy adventure!
