REVIEW:SAFE HAVEN is the first instalment in Kristen Proby’s contemporary, adult TRIPLE CREEK RANCH erotic, romance series. This is thirty-five year old, professional hockey player turner rancher Ryker James, and romance novel narrator Willow’s story line. For fans of Kristen Proby, several characters cross over or are mentioned in the current timeline from other series.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Willow and Ryker) SAFE HAVEN follows the building romance and relationship between thirty-five year old, professional hockey player turner rancher Ryker James, and romance novel narrator Willow. At the age of fifteen, Ryker and his soon to be best friend Gideon would find themselves the foster kids to ranchers Ray and Debbie James where they would meet Ray’s niece Willow, and the trio would form a lifelong friendship. Fast forward twenty years, the death of Ray James would bring the friends back together, and Ryker would set about seducing the only woman he has ever loved. Raising her sister’s son Aiden, Willow is finding herself overwhelmed with Aiden’s teenage mood swings, when Ryker offers a place for summer at the James’ family ranch, pushing our couple together for the foreseeable future. At thirty-five, Ryker is considering retirement from professional hockey, working toward running the ranch for troubled teens but Ryker’s past refuses to let go, and Willow will be targeted in a need for vengeance.

The world building follows several pathways including Ryker’s hockey career and upcoming contract renewal, Aiden’s struggle to fit in, Willow’s growing love for our story line hero, and Gideon’s most recent assignment working for the POTUS. Ryker’s career as a professional hockey play would take him all across North America, as Gideon’s career as a security specialist meant travelling the world.

The relationship between Ryker and Willow is a best friends to lovers. Twenty years earlier, Ryker and Gideon would be adopted by Ray and Debbie James, and in doing so, a lifelong friendship would ensue. Ryker has never stopped loving the girl that had stolen his heart, and time spent together meant a chance to claim Willow as his own. The $ex scenes are intimate and provocative without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to ranch owners Ray and Debbie James, as well as Willow’s nephew Aiden; Ryker’s best friend and adopted brother Gideon James, and Ryker’s agent Andy.
