Loving A Vampire Is Total Chaos: A Paranormal Dark Rom-Com by Aura Hayes

Celine Brennan should be riding the high of her recent promotion to detective, but instead she’s been saddled with a case no one can seem to solve with murders so gruesome others before her have quit. Not to mention, there’s something suspicious with a new club in town and her focus keeps being pulled from the case she should be devoting her attention to.

Zavier Lockwood is old. Three-hundred-years old to be precise and he’s bored because of it. Killing the scum of Chicago and cleaning up the streets since the cops can’t seem to do it is his favorite pastime. Until he lays eyes on Celine. Soon, he finds his obsession with her far more tempting than murder. After all, no vampire can resist the allure of their mate.

As their paths cross thanks to Zavier’s uncanny ability to be wherever Celine is they both come to realize there’s something far more nefarious going on in the city they both love. They’ll have to work together to get to the bottom of it, but what happens when Celine realizes the man she’s falling for isn’t only not human, but he’s the same one committing the crimes she’s supposed to solve?

JULIE’S REVIEW 🦋: “Loving A Vampire Is Total Chaos” immerses us in a thrilling blend of paranormal romance and dark humor, capturing the essence of chaos that ensues when love collides with crime.

Celine Brennan, a newly promoted detective, finds herself in over her head with a series of gruesome murders that have driven her predecessors to quit. Just as she grapples with the tension of her job, a mysterious club appears on the scene, pulling her focus in unexpected directions.

Enter Zavier Lockwood, a three hundred year old vampire, whose is weary from centuries of existence is shattered upon meeting Celine. What starts as an obsession becomes a twisted romance that challenges the boundaries of life, death, and morality. Zavier’s dark pastime of ridding the streets of Chicago’s scum adds layers of intrigue, making him as alluring as he is dangerous.

The story takes a fascinating turn when Celine begins to suspect that the man she is falling for might be the very criminal she is hunting. This revelation creates a psychological tug-of-war, intensifying the stakes as they are forced to work together to uncover a deeper, more nefarious plot that threatens their city and their budding relationship. Is he the villain or the hero? 🤔

Aura Hayes masterfully weaves humor into the chaos, making me laugh even amidst the dark and bloody backdrop. The chemistry between Celine and Zavier is palpable, filled with witty banter and steamy tension. The story balances the macabre with moments of levity, keeping me on the edge of my seat while also eliciting smiles.

Overall, “Loving A Vampire Is Total Chaos” is a captivating read that delivers an engaging storyline filled with unexpected twists, well-developed characters, and an irresistible premise. With a perfect blend of romance, danger, and dark comedy, this book is sure to enchant fans of paranormal fiction and rom-com lovers alike.

SARAH’S REVIEW: I love a good paranormal suspense romance. Loving A Vampire is Total Chaos is the first book in a new series by Aura Hayes. LAV is a paranormal, fated mates, mystery romance filled with drama, intrigue, spice and banter.

Zavier Lockwood, golden retriever vampire of 300 years, spends his free time ridding the world of awful people. Not good people of course, he has standards afterall, these people are criminals, bad people that the cops aren’t getting to fast enough. He has devoted his immortality to his cause, all up until he meets Celine. His mate. Celine is a detective, she’s assigned the cases dealing with the aftermath of Zaviers “help”, when Zavier comes across her, he is hooked. He is obsessed, does a small amount of stalking, but of course he conveniences himself it’s just to keep her safe, but as the case progresses they both come to learn that Zavier isn’t the only thing going bump in the night. Together, they team up to find the truth of what is going on, leading them to a bigger plot than either of them could have guessed.

This was so much more entertaining than I was expecting, more comedic. Zavier’s character is to die for (no pun intended 😉) this ancient vampire that comes off more with a childlike, prankster personality, meets Celine the broody, serious, black cat, but somehow they feed off one another so well. I love how Zavier just pops up where Celine is, doesn’t matter what she is doing, just pop and there he is, it makes the possessive part of his personality make sense at least. With the attention of other characters like Celine’s best friend Ava and Valen, the series looks to have more in store for readers. Special thanks to the author for the many giggles this story gave me.

When celebrity Laina Kelley bolted from her small hometown church on her wedding day, she ran to the first place that came to mind—the home of the local farrier, a gorgeous playboy who just so happens to be her first love … and biggest frenemy.

USA Today bestselling author Adriana Locke delivers a new “sweet and spicy!” standalone romance about a runaway bride who finds herself in the arms, and horse barn, of her deliciously handsome frenemy—who just so happens to be her first love.

This isn’t your average romance. It begins with me in a wedding dress, just not at an altar …

I never expected to be a runaway bride. I also never thought I’d end up on my ex’s doorstep to flee from said wedding. Now that I’m here, it’s easy to find the key in an old boot by the door and let myself inside. It’s not breaking and entering if I have a key, right?

It’s safe to say that Luke Marshall didn’t expect to find me on his couch in my wedding dress, my veil over my face in tears. He has no choice but to listen to my panic-induced plea for salvation. It’s only a matter of time before the tabloids get wind of my disappearing act, and my life is over.

Luke takes pity on me and says I can stay… on one condition.

I can’t sing for my supper—I have to earn it. I have to work in the barn alongside him, up to my elbows in horse manure. Oh—and because there’s only one bed, I get the couch.

This works … in theory. However, when sparks start flying, and the small-town farrier asks me to stay, I’ll have to decide between my life as a pop star or a second chance with my first love.

REVIEW:This Much is True is a second chance romance featuring my favorite genre; small town romance. This book felt more like a novella than a full novel, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t sweet and enjoyable. It is the second in a series, but truly can be read as a standalone without any plot gaps.

Laina and Luke were each other’s first for almost everything, so when they broke up, nothing made since. Years later Laina finds herself in a situation that she can’t go through with, but with nowhere safe left, she runs back to the one person she has always felt safe with.

Luke.

When Luke returns home to find the woman he let get away, the one woman who he knows is the one for him, his soulmate, whom he hasn’t seen in years has returned to not only their small town home, but also to his house he is shocked. Shocked but happy. So happy that he will do just about anything to make sure she doesn’t leave him again. Laina ran away at the altar, now the media is coming for her and all she can think about is getting away from them. Somewhere safe. Safe is with Luke. All the while these two are huddled away in hiding, the media firestorm is raging away outside just waiting for poor Laina to make her appearance. None of that seems to even matter to the pair now; being back together in the same place just brings past feelings back even stronger, and before you know it they are a happy couple.

This Much is True is a sweet, rekindling love story, one that readers will like as something they can consume to heal. The book doesn’t have much to it in angst, twists or spicy bits, but overall I did enjoy it.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date August 15, 2022

Subject: You up?
This is definitely a feeling cute, might want to delete later situation. But isn’t every message sent at two in the morning a precursor to regret?
By the way, I hope you read that subject line as the pun it was intended to be.
Okay, cutting to the chase—neither of us has an interest in cultivating an emotional connection with each other, right? You have your reasons, and I have mine. But none of that keeps us from nearly crossing the line from professional to personal every freaking day.
I mean, what was that almost kiss in the hallway this afternoon?
Something has to give. So this is me, giving in.
I can’t believe I’m suggesting this, but what if you and I had … a fling?
Just a short-lived non-romance. No pretending it will ever be more. We’ll avoid flowers and flirting and get to the f—you know what I mean.
That’s all either of us wants anyway.
Think about it. Let me know.
I’ll see you in the office in the morning.
Oh! One more thing—If you’re not into this, don’t ever mention you saw this email. I’ll pretend I never saw it either.
Okay. Bye.

REVIEW: I have NEVER wanted to kick a character in the bum so bad before! Only Addy would grace us with Maddox and Ashley, their friendship, their chemistry and then their love. Fling is a friends to lovers romance that brings all the swoon.

Maddox and Ashley are childhood friends, that is all they have ever been, no matter the jokes their friends and family may say. When Ashley returns home after breaking off her engagement, she decides to stay with friends and nurse her heartbreak. After all, her marriage is over, but she’s still taking the honeymoon she always dreamed of. She’s just doing it alone.

Or so she thought.

With Ashley’s two besties and his brothers in his ear, Maddox plays the little game they have set up for Ashley to have a “husband” on her honeymoon. And boy oh boy is Maddox the right guy for the job. Maddox has always been a love and leave them kinda guy, more respective, but still, not the guy you tie down. When he gets wind of what their friends are planning he is persuaded to join, after all this isn’t just any woman. It’s Ashley, the one girl he compares all others to, whether they have dated or not. He knows she’s special.

Once Ashley sees Maddox on her flight, she knows what her besties did, but having Maddox give her the low down was a whole new level of funny. After a pact to not get clingy and simply enjoy the trip, Ashley and Maddox land on sandy beaches and blue waters and do just that. They enjoy themselves. Little did they know that when they got back to the real world, things wouldn’t be the same. Once they returned home, and life fell back into a normal pace, Maddox does what he always does in relationships. He backs off, they both decide that they need to take a breather from one another. Both let fear take control. When Ashley’s ex makes a stumbling appearance back in her life, it forces Maddox to open his eyes and really take a look at the woman he has come to….love?

Back to my first statement, I have never wanted to kick someone in the bum so bad as I did Maddox! You can tell how much chemistry, compassion and friendship they have even before they start the sexy part of their relationship. I totally understood where Ashley was coming from with her heartbreak from her ex, but come on girl, open those eyes of yours and look around. Maddox had his own fears, and when he finally dealt with them, Ashley was there to help. These two were one of the best couples I have read in Addy’s series bar none, five stars!

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date January 12,2022.

When she was a little girl, Remy Archer fell in love with Hyde Fuller at first sight. In fact, he was the only thing she could see for a very long time. For Remy, it never mattered to her that Hyde was always too serious and always seemed so sad. To her, he was the very best, and the center of her entire world. She never dreamed he would let her down when she needed him the most.

Now Remy is a semi-reasonable adult, one with a better understanding of why her intense feelings scared Hyde away when she was at her lowest point. She’s moved on, and if anyone asks she’s perfectly happy with the chaotic and hectic life she’s built. She’s also really proud that she’s still around to experience all the best and worst that surviving something deeply traumatic has to offer. The last thing she needs or wants, is Hyde coming back and taking over her every thought and feeling the way he once did. Unfortunately, they picked the exact same time to come home to search for a little redemption.

When he was a little boy, the instant they met, Hyde Fuller wanted nothing more than to protect Remy Archer from everything, including herself. She gleefully took up every moment of his free time, and every ounce of his patience, as they grew alongside one another. He was so intent on keeping her safe, he didn’t realize how deeply Remy had worked her way into his heart.

Now that Hyde’s facing the biggest challenge and biggest change of his entire life, he deeply regrets walking away from Remy. She was always the one person who always had his back, no matter what. The way Remy loved him used to terrify him, but now, it’s the way he loves her that scares him to death.
Hyde knows he needs Remy in his life, so he can finally figure out how to be the man she always believed him to be. History has a bad habit of repeating itself, and Remy has a knack for turning even the most simple of situations end over end. This time Hyde is determined to stay by her side no matter what, even though his love for Remy is going to change more than his life this time around.

REVIEW:This book was sentimental and so emotional for me to read and hit very close to home, thus becoming one of the best reads I have ever consumed.

Now, it is safe to say that this book has an underlying message, you can’t miss it, but there is also so much hope, love and understanding. I love second generation books, it’s a glimpse into the lives of the characters we have come to know and love, but also more.

Remy and Hyde will make you cry, yearn, scream and wish for the world to be a different place, but they will also make you smile and believe in love again. Hyde has his troubles like so many of us do, but his daughter is his joy and he will do anything to protect her. Remy is such a complex character, one that has been diagnosed with a mental illness, Prodigal Son deals with this heavy topic, and I have to get it to Jay for bringing it up, many people simply brush it off and “suck it up” type of attitude. These two have been intertwined since childhood, and nothing is going to stop their love now. Bring some tissue and something to cuddle with, Jay activated super mode and got us all in our feels.
