She bet me she could break the wildest horse on the ranch. I should’ve known she’d break me instead.
Spur
I gave up bull riding when a two-thousand-pound monster shattered my leg and nearly killed me.
Now I break horses for the Shotgun Saints and keep my head down. Stay loyal to my Prez. Don’t touch what doesn’t belong to me.
Especially not Dakota—Phantom’s daughter, Sharp’s rodeo princess, and the woman I’ve been trying not to want for the last few years.
She was too young when I patched in. Jail bait wrapped in denim and daddy’s protection. So, I kept my distance, watched her climb the barrel racing circuit, and told myself she was off-limits.
Then she won regionals, got drunk on victory, and made a bet in front of the entire club: she’d break the meanest mustang on the ranch.
If she succeeded, I’d take her to nationals. Not as her protector—as her man.
I should’ve walked away, should’ve laughed it off.
Instead, I shook her hand and sealed both our fates.
Now she’s in my arena every day, working that wild horse, pushing boundaries, testing me with those challenging eyes and that smart mouth.
And when some psycho starts stalking her at rodeos—leaving threats, cutting her tack, getting too damn close—I know I’ll kill for her.
She might have thought our bet was fun, but I’m taking it literally.
Once she’s mine, she’s mine.

REVIEW: SPUR is the fourth instalment in Elizabeth Knox’s contemporary, adult SHOTGUN SAINTS MC erotic MC romance series, a next generation spin off set in the author’s REAPER’S REJECTS world. This is thirty-five year old, MC Road Captain Cade ‘Spur’ Holloway, and club president’s daughter, twenty-five year old, Dakota Lyle’s story line. SPUR can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order for backstory and cohesion as there is an ongoing premise throughout.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Spur and Dakota) SPUR follows in the wake of threats against our story line heroine. For eight years, Spur and Dakota have danced around their attraction to one another but Dakota’s father, club president Harlan ‘Phantom’ Lyle declared Dakota off limits. Dakota is a barrel racer, a horse trainer and a woman who is determined to claim her man but Dakota has a stalker, and Phantom declares Spur guardian and protector of our story line heroine. As the MC begin a deep dive into the probabilities including someone they know, Spur senses a familiarity surrounding the clues, and the possibility of severe injuries pushes the MC to take matters into their hands.
The world building follows several pathways including the search for the person stalking our story line heroine, yet through it all, Dakota struggles with the disappearance of her mother, a woman who has caused too many problems for Phantom, and his growing family.
The relationship between Dakota and Spur has been building for close to eight years. On the night of his patching in, Spur spied our heroine, but Phantom’s warning sent Spur in another direction, wherein Spur and Dakota’s paths would cross for the next eight years. Everyone was aware of the attraction between our story line couple, everyone but the man in charge. The $ex scenes are passionate and intense without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
There is another large ensemble cast of colorful, determined and energetic secondary and supporting characters including Banshee and Bex, Shadow and Grace, Shiver (reaper’s Rejects MC), as well as Phantom and his wife Marlena, and his daughters Presley and Grace.
SPUR is a story of betrayal and vengeance, jealousy and obsession, family and friendships, relationships and love. The character driven premise is edgy and dramatic; the romance is seductive and fated; the characters are desperate and dynamic.
