Gemma has her mate, her child, her perfect fae life. Cyrus has nothing but the ashes of his unicorn existence. Every sunrise brings him fresh torture. Every sunset is another reminder of what he can never have.

And the bond between them—the one he’s tried so hard to sever—still pulses with every beat of his broken heart.

When an old enemy threatens the balance of the entire realm, Cyrus will be forced to choose between honoring the sacred unicorn laws or risking everything to stand by her side when darkness comes calling.

A unicorn guardian. A forbidden love. A destiny that could save or damn them all.

REVIEW: In *Crown of Ruined Oaths*, (technically the third instalment) *Empire of Curses and Dreams* series, Susan Person creates a tale of heart wrenching emotion and fantasy.

This story basically sets up the next book. But we do get more background on Cyrus. It’s a short story/novella. But it doesn’t miss anything out. I almost felt like I was reading a proper book, rather than a novella.

At the center of this captivating story is Cyrus, a unicorn guardian whose life takes an unexpected turn when forbidden love sparks between him and Gemma, the woman he has sworn to protect.

From the very beginning, we are drawn into Cyrus’s internal conflict, a struggle between duty and desire. The author captures his sense of honour really well, torn apart by the deep affection he harbors for Gemma and the weight of his commitments.

Gemma, with her seemingly perfect life alongside her mate Laurel, is both a beacon of hope and a source of pain for Cyrus.

The plot thickens as an ancient enemy emerges, threatening the balance of their realm. This propels Cyrus into a decision, forcing him to choose between abiding by the sacred unicorn laws or embracing the chaos of love.

Person’s writing is evocative and immersive, Thecauthor’s writing has a knack of drawing you in and keeping you there. The sights/smells and sounds are a there for you to get the full picture.

As we accompany Cyrus on his journey, i find myself hoping he wins against his struggles and rooting for him to find his path.

While there are moments where the plot can feel slightly predictable, the emotional stakes and characters are strong enough that they kept me wanting to find out more.

In conclusion, *Crown of Ruined Oaths* is a beautifully written fantasy that intertwines forbidden love with the weight of destiny.

For fans of romantic fantasy and tales of unicorns, this book is a must read.

The journey is just beginning, and I can’t wait to see where Cyrus’s path leads in the next installment!

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 26, 2025

Some bonds are written in the stars. Others are forged in the forbidden.

When Crown Princess Gemma ventures to the edge of the Forbidden Forest, she falls straight into enemy hands.

Captivated by Prince Laurel’s warm aura and gentle nature, Gemma discovers that nothing about the enemy kingdom matches what she’s been taught. The mysterious connection that sparks between them defies explanation, and the secrets of her mother’s past slowly unravel with each passing day.

As her protective unicorn, Cyrus, grows uneasy and her family awaits her return, Gemma finds herself torn between duty and a desire she never expected. Ancient magic is failing at the borders, and vampires threaten both kingdoms. When centuries of history crash against newfound passion, Gemma must decide: Is the heat between them worth risking two kingdoms?

Fate doesn’t care about battle lines.

••••••

REVIEW In * Crown of Broken Promises*, we’re taken on an enchanting journey with two kingdoms at odds, where a forbidden romance blooms amid ancient magic and looming threats.

This was a great short prequel that tells us all about how Gemma and Laurel meet….

When she finds herself in the hostile grasp of Prince Laurel, her enemy, (she wandered into Forbidden Forest after hearing a voice) the story explores the clash between. Here she learns some painful truths (it seems most of what she’s been told growing up was a lie!) Finding out about her parents was painful for poor Gemma (my heart did hurt for her 😞)

Both characters are well developed, showing us their internal struggles and growth as they navigate their unexpected feelings. Both Lauren and Gemma have their say in this book.

The setting is vividly written, with the Forbidden Forest serving as a dark yet captivating backdrop that enhances the story’s tension. The presence of unicorns and vampires adds an intriguing layer to the world building.

Overall, is story is a wonderfully crafted tale of love against all odds, rich in emotion and adventure. It encourages us to question allegiances and challenges the notion that enemies are always so easily defined.

Although a short story, it doesn’t lack for anything. And it’s not quite instalove that most fated mates seem to have.

This novel is perfect for fans of enchanted romances filled with magic, intrigue, and fated mates (a favourite trope of mine 💜)

Do you need to read this before or after the first book (Crown of Night and Rain) I’d probably say read book one first, then this one.

And I’m hoping we come back soon 🤞.

Tensions rise, kingdoms collide, and everything is on the line. With secrets of the past threatening to destroy not only their lives but the future of fae-kind, Arianna will be tested and only Rainier can guide her through.

••••

REVIEW:From the very first page, I was captivated by the intricate story that the author created.

The story unfolds around a wickedly charming prince, Rainier, who turns Arianna’s world upside down the moment he steps onto the page. His presence is both magnetic and treacherous, instantly provoking a whirlwind of emotions that tugged at my heartstrings and challenge my will to sleep 😜

As an abandoned princess from a once glorious kingdom, Arianna had learned to navigate the treacherous waters of betrayal and deceit. But Rainier’s arrival signals the beginning of her greatest challenge yet. He has a mission, one that involves forcibly taking her throne and completely upending her life. The tension is palpable, and the stakes have never been higher.

Arianna, a fragile, forgotten princess, adds layers of complexity to the story. Her predicament elicits both sympathy and intrigue, as she grapples with her own identity while caught in the web of family obligations. She grow in the book, and becomes a character that’s formidable in her own right.

The pacing of the novel is perfect, with each chapter leaving me hungry for more. The kingdoms collide, and I felt the weight of each secret unraveling. The world-building is exquisite, from the magical elements tied to fae-kind to the grim realities of war that are on the horizon. Unicorns/fae/elves/vampires and a dark goddess are all in this book, I love a book with lots of different species, not just one or two.

One of the most striking aspects of this first book in the series is the dynamic relationship between Arianna, and Rainier. There’s an undeniable tension that dances in the air, fraught with equal measures of animosity and chemistry. Can she really open her heart to the charming prince, or will she meet her demise at the end of her own dagger?

The author expertly weaves these conflicting emotions, leaving me on the edge of my seat, desperate to unravel the mystery of their intertwined fates.

In conclusion, “Crown of Night and Rain” is an exhilarating start to a new series that promises to explore the depths of love, loyalty, and the price of power.

I found myself utterly absorbed in its pages.

I eagerly await the next chapter in this captivating saga!
