Sandy’s Review: THE BEAST LORD is the second instalment in Juliette Cross’ adult THE RISE OF NORTHGALL dark, paranormal, fantasy series. This is Beastfae Lord Redvyr ,the leader of his clan, and Princess Jessamine Glenmyr’s story line. THE BEAST LORD can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.
Told from dual omniscient third person perspectives (Redvyr and Jessamine) THE BEAST LORD follows in the wake of the rescue of our story line heroine. Sold by her abusive father to the highest bidder for her ability to wield a special kind of magick, Jessamine ran knowing her life would be filled with death and destruction. Having fled into dark fae territory near the Borderlands, Jessamine’s whereabouts would be discovered, and our heroine would have to run, once again, only to fall to the cold and winter-like conditions. Rescued by a brooding Lord Redvyr and his wolf, Jessamine would find herself a home and a future with a wandering clan of Beastfae but the past does not forget, and a new enemy is taking aim starting with the most vulnerable of the fae.
Like in the previous instalment, the world building is complex and detailed, filled with mythical and magical creatures, everyone more dangerous and deadly than the next. As the Beastfae clan must move to their winter home, Jessamine will learn to love a people, and a man who is willing to do anything to guard the female that calls to his soul.
The relationship between Jessamine and Redvyr begins as a rescue but Redvyr will soon discover there is more to the female than he could have ever imagined. Jessamine is a Skald Fae and a Syrenskyn, some of the magick abilities that make her the prime target of dangerous men. Believing he has found his fated mate, Redvyr bides his time in claiming the female he rescued, a woman who is willing to sacrifice her life to protect the people she is learning to love. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate.
There is a large diverse cast of magickal, enchanting and dangerous secondary and supporting supernatural characters: fae, sprites, demons, dragons, grimlocks and an assortment of mythical beasts and gods all with special abilities and powers. We are introduced to Redvyr’s right hand man Bezaliel and his mate Tessa, as well as an assortment of friends and foe to whom Jessamine will be introduced.
THE BEAST LORD is an action packed story of magick and mayhem, myth and mythology, power and control, betrayal and vengeance, secrets and lies, family and friendships, relationships and love. The richly layered and character driven premise is multi-layered, dramatic and dark; the romance is fated and seductive; the characters are charismatic, determined and spirited.
Barb’s Review: The Beast Lord by Juliette Cross is the 2nd book in her RISE OF NORTHGALL series. Jessamine, our heroine, is living in the Borderlands; but now she is on the run, as her enemy finds her. She flees deeper into dark fae territory, risking death in the frozen woodlands. Jessamine gets rescued by a mere Wolf, who drags her unconscious and wounded into Lord Redvyr hunting camp. Redvyr is compelled to help her, as he has a strong sense of doing what’s right; and Wolf stays close to her.
Jessamine must learn to trust Redvyr, as well as protecting her from her enemies. As she recovers, Redvyr brings her back to their land, as she meets a wonderful group of people. Jessamine hides some of her secret magick; and she’s willing to risk everything for to help Redvyr, even while knowing her power might guide her enemy straight to her.
Jessamine is smart, savvy and sweet skald fae princess, who has taken to extreme action to work closely with Redvyr. Redvyr is a moody, growling and huge beast fae, but in time he will find himself falling for Jessamine.
I loved Jessamine and Redvyr together, they made such a wonderful unique couple. Jessamine was a fantastic heroine, always caring about her people, generous, loyal and her powers evolving. Redvyr was also very good, being strong, independent and totally in love with Jessamine. I loved Wolf, who was always watching over her. I also loved all the wonderful secondary characters that were part of Redvyr’s group, who were all great. The last half of the book was an exciting adventure, with Jessamine using her magick to help defeat the enemies; as the side characters all had important roles.
The Beast Lord was a fantastic story, with non-stop action, twists, betrayal, as well as having myths and mythology. The Beast Lord was so very well written by Juliette Cross. If you enjoy a romantasy story line, filled with intrigue, violence and sexy, you need to read The Beast Lord.

Juliette calls lush, moss-laden Louisiana home where the landscape curls into her imagination, creating mystical settings for her stories. She has a B.A. in creative writing from Louisiana State University, a M.Ed. in gifted education, and was privileged to study under the award-winning author Ernest J. Gaines in grad school. Her love of mythology, legends, and art serve as constant inspiration for her works.
