He lives by a set of rules. She might be his one exception.
I just wanted a distraction, something to take the edge off before facing a wedding I was dreading. So on the flight back to New York, I signed up for a dating app. Harmless enough, right?Wrong.
Turns out, it wasn’t just any app—it catered to people with very specific tastes. By the time I realized it, I was already on my date.
Tall, confident, and sinfully handsome, Jagger Langston seemed like the full package. The chemistry between us was instant—electric enough to burn the whole city down. Though things took a turn when we figured out I’d misunderstood who should join the app. We laughed it off, said goodbye, and went our separate ways.
Or so I thought.
Until I walked into my new internship Monday morning, ready to put the weekend behind me, and there he was—my boss.
Now I’m caught between the rules he lives by—and the temptation to make him break every single one of them.

REVIEW:THE EXCEPTION by Vi Keeland is a stand alone, contemporary, adult, erotic, romance story line focusing on thirty-two year old, billionaire businessman Jagger Langston, and twenty-four year old, intern Sutton Holland’s story line.
Told from dual first person perspectives using present day (Sutton) and memories from the past (Jagger), THE EXCEPTION follows Sutton Holland as she begins an internship in New York at the coveted Apex Financial Institution but the introduction of her new temporary boss implodes when Sutton discovers the man who rejected her on a dating app, is the man who is now controlling her future. Jagger Langston likes control, a Dominant both in and out of the bedroom, Jagger struggles with his attraction to our story line heroine, a young woman whose brilliant mind rivals the brilliance of the man himself. As our couple begin to dance around one another, the inevitable attraction begins as a work place romance that will quickly turn into something more but Sutton’s past refuses to let go, and our heroine finds herself on the outside looking in when the man with whom she is falling in love begins to pull away without looking back.
The world building focuses on the ‘forbidden’ relationship between our story line couple as Jagger begins to spiral out of control. As a former US Marine, Jagger struggles with PTSD, and his memories of what was begin to affect his relationship with everyone in his life.
The relationship between Jagger and Sutton begins as a dating app rejection that slowly builds into something more. Interning for Jagger, Sutton finds herself at both an advantage and disadvantage when Jagger’s need for Sutton is often offset by the knowledge probability of a workplace embarrassment. The $ex scenes are intimate and provocative without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
The large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters are entertaining and interesting. We are introduced to Sutton’s mother and stepfather, as well as her ex Brendan and his new wife Colette; Sutton’s best friend Miles, as well as several fellow employees who work for or with the man in charge.
THE EXCEPTION is a story of power and control, obsession and conflict, family and relationships, acceptance and love. The character driven premise is dramatic and edgy with a definite Fifty Shades of Grey vibe ; the characters are striking, determined and desperate; the romance is seductive and impassioned.
