REVIEW: MY WHISKEY REDEMPTION is the sixth instalment in Melissa Foster’s contemporary, adult THE WHISKEYS: DARK KNIGHTS AT REDEMPTION RANCH erotic, romance series, a spin off set in the author’s numerous interconnected series. This is chocolate maker Blaire ‘ Birdie’ Whiskey, and Crew Hendricks’ story line. MY WHISKEY REDEMPTION can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.
Told from omniscient dual third person perspectives (Crew and Birdie) MY WHISKEY REDEMPTION follows in the wake of a one-night stand wherein Birdie would meet a man with connections to her family. Four years earlier, Crew was involved in a drunk driving accident, and sentenced to prison for his actions. Fast forward to present day, a one-night stand with a woman he doesn’t know ends when he discovers her connections to the man whose live he almost destroyed. Risking everything, Crew is hoping to atone for his sins, never expecting forgiveness from anyone involved but Crew struggles with his attraction to our story line heroine, a woman who has every right to push Crew Hendricks out of her life.
The world building focuses on redemption, atonement, and salvation. Crew served his time but our hero needs to prove he is not the man who almost destroyed their lives. A single mistake, a heart breaking and abusive past, leaves Crew battling his own demons but his need to apologize comes with the emotional fall-out of having fallen for a woman who could break his heart, a woman too close to everyone involved.
The relationships between Birdie and Crew is one of mutual attraction. A one-night stand in which Birdie is ghosted by a man she calls Ragnar but a man who is suddenly aware of her familial connections. Struggling to keep his distance, Crew and Birdie embark on a secret affair, that once revealed, may threaten any chance of happiness for our story line couple. The $ex scenes are intimate, passionate and provocative without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
As per Melissa’s style of writing, there is another large ensemble cast of colorful, energetic and familiar secondary and supporting characters including Birdie’s tight-knit family.
MY WHISKEY REDMEPTION is a story of penance and acceptance, family and relationships, recognition and love. The character driven premise is emotional and dramatic; the romance is seductive and edgy; the characters are desperate, dogged and tenacious.
