REVIEW:The Taskmaster by Nikki J. Summers is a gripping, intense standalone dark romance that dives deep into the shadows of obsession, power, and twisted games.

With a back cover that promises high stakes and a battle of wills, this book delivers a rollercoaster of emotions, blending psychological thriller elements with dark, steamy romance. Please read the trigger warnings as there is a few things that will make a few people uncomfortable.

The story centers on the enigmatic and dangerous Taskmaster, a predator who thrives on control, tormenting his victims with calculated precision. His next target….. Abigail Walters. She is marked for destruction due to her father’s sins. However, Abigail is no ordinary prey, she harbors her own dark secrets and a strength that will challenge the Taskmaster!

As their dangerous game unfolds, the lines between hunter and hunted blur, complicated further by an unseen third party stalking from the shadows.

Will they really be able to be together? Can they keep their secrets from one another? And if found out, what will happen?

The Taskmaster is a complex anti-hero, charismatic yet terrifying, his sadistic tendencies are soon tempered as his obsession with Abigail deepens. He begins to have strange and new feelings/emotions, at first he’s furious with her, but as his obsession deepens, he wants to test both himself and Abigail!

Abigail is a great character, fierce and defiant, refusing to be tamed despite the overwhelming odds.

Their chemistry is electric, charged with a dynamic that makes their interactions both thrilling and unsettling.

I loved the addition of another stalker, who is it? What do they want?

For those who have read the author’s “soldiers of anarchy”, (if not, then what are you waiting for 😉) you’ll recognise a few characters and the Taskmaster makes an appearance in “The Player.” It’s not necessary to read it, but I did, and I’m glad he got a chance to tell us his story.

Readers who enjoy dark romance, psychological thrillers, and intense, morally grey characters, then this one should definitely be added to your TBR.
