Review:

Fire Touched by Patricia Briggs is the 9th book in her Mercy Thompson series. I have been a fan of this series for a long time, and Mercy Thompson continues to be one of the best kick-ass heroines. In Firetouched, Mercy, Adam and their pack are called upon to stop a troll from destroying everything in town. Where did this troll come from is a big question, which can only mean the Fae are up to their old tricks. Just when you think Mercy and Adam won’t survive this attack, her magic stick and her old friend, Zee come to the rescue. Zee is an old fae, who has not been part of the Fae council for a long time, but he remains Mercy’s friend. He brings with a young human boy, Aiden, who was stolen by the fae years before, and has escaped. The battle with the troll was wild and crazy, with many of the pack injured. But with help from Aiden, Zee, they will win this battle, with more to come.

Aiden, is fire touched and he is the main reason the Fae are willing to start a war. They want Aiden, to help them get back into good graces with Underhill, a fae territory that is closed to the fae. Aiden has run away from his life in Underhill and Mercy, Adam take him into their pack to protect him.

Some of Adam’s pack still resent Mercy, who they feel is not one of them. Mercy is a coyote shifter, not a werewolf. But she can stand up to them or anyone, as Mercy Thompson bends for no one. But she wants peace in the pack, since she loves Adam, and doesn’t want him to have dissention in his pack. It will be Adam, who will demand his pack to accept his mate or leave. It was nice to finally begin to see the dissenters changing their tune, and slowly accepting Mercy.

What follows is an exciting adventure, where the pack must face further attacks, forcing Mercy, Adam, Zee to meet the Fae Gray Council to make a deal. To save themselves and Aiden, they have to make a deal; bargaining with the fae is dangerous, and not always to be trusted. The last half of the book was very exciting, with their lives very much in danger. Will they win the war with the Fae? Can they find a bargaining tool to save Aiden? Will Mercy and Adam survive their trip to Underhill?

Not only is this series always fun, exciting & action packed, but the romance between Mercy and Adam is always beautiful to watch. They are a great couple. Bravo to Patricia Briggs, who continues to give us great adventures, as well as the continued growth of Mercy. I cannot wait for more.
