REVIEW: MOODY by Penelope Ward is a stand alone, contemporary, adult, erotic, romance story line focusing on businessman Dax Moody, and musician/massage therapist Wren McCallister.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Wren and Dax), covering several years in the life, MOODY follows the building but struggling relationship between businessman Dax Moody, and musician /massage therapist Wren McCallister. Dax Moody is a widower, raising his late wife’s adopted son, but our hero struggles with his attraction to a massage therapist his housekeeper contacted on his behalf. From the outset, Dax Moody is uncomfortable in Wren McCallister’s presence, uncomfortable in a way that becomes overwhelming and anxiety ridden for our story line couple. Dax has a secret, that if revealed, will push the woman with whom he is falling in love, out of his life but not out of his heart. As Dax struggles to keep his emotions and attraction to Wren under control, Wren must come to a decision as it pertains to her career and the rest of her life, with or without our story line hero. What ensues is the building but heart breaking relationship between Dax and Wren, and the fall-out as a lack of communication, stubbornness and a need to escape force our couple towards different paths, paths that are meant, never to cross.

Dax Moody struggles since the loss of his wife but meeting Wren McCallister stirred something deep within our story line hero. Wren has no idea that her world is about to be upended, and in this, the truth will prove that not everything is as it appears to be.

The relationship between Wren and Dax begins as a client based arrangement, one in which Dax knows more than he should about our story line heroine. Wren’s life hasn’t always been easy, having rebelled as a teen and losing her way but experience gave way to a new, more mature Wren McCallister, a young woman who struggles with Dax’s up and down, back and forth signals towards our story line heroine. Dax wants nothing more than to claim Wren as his own but battles between head and heart knowing that his ‘son’s’ needs and well being will always come first. The $ex scenes are erotic and intense, without the use of over the top sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to Dax’s housekeeper Shannon, and his ‘son’ Rafe; Wren’s father, as well as the occasional and additional love interests that comes in and out of our couple’s lives.

MOODY is a character driven story of secrets and lies, heart break and obsession, acceptance and love. The premise is emotional and thought provoking; the characters are stubborn and determined; the romance is seductive, passionate yet frustrating and filled with anxiety and angst.
