REVIEW:BEAUTIFUL CRIMINAL is the first instalment in MN Forgy’s contemporary, adult OMERTA LAW erotic, romantic suspense, mafia series. This is heir to the DeAngelo family and underlying boss Kieran DeAngelo, and the Bravado family princess Leona Bravado’s story line.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Kieran and Leona) BEAUTIFUL CRIMINAL focuses on the upcoming war between two families in the criminal underworld-the DeAngelos and the Bravados. Fifteen years earlier, Leona Bravado’s father disappeared without a trace, and two young boys were indoctrinated into the dark world of the mob. Fast forward to present day wherein Leona Bravado is witness to a crime, a crime that sees one woman dead and her husband clinging to life. In an effort to keep our heroine silent, Kieran DeAngelo is ordered to marry the head of the Bravado family, currently run by Leona Bravado. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Kieran and Leona, as our couple are on the run from the people in charge.

Leona Bravado had no idea what happened to her father all those years earlier but inheriting the leadership of the Bravado family was never in the cards. Having witnessed a fire that took the life of a local business woman, Leona finds herself on the run when she discovers that she will be forced into a marriage of convenience in an effort to secure the power and control of the local mob. Kieran DeAngelo is a made man but never expected to become his father’s enforcer; his elder brother Romeo is more of a lover than a fighter, forcing Kieran to take charge in an effort to save his brother’s life.

The relationship between Kieran and Leona is an enemies to lovers relationship wherein Kieran has been tasked with marrying a woman he does not love. With the heroine on the run, Kieran goes in search of the woman that will call to his heart. A case of insta-lust to love quickly develops forcing Kieran to choose sides in a war between the DeAngelo’s and the Bravados. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters. We are introduced to the head of the DeAngelo family Emilio DeAngelo, Kieran’s brother Romeo, and uncles Tony, Leo and Gio; Leona’s advisor Dominic.

BEAUTIFUL CRIMINAL is a fast paced story of family, power, betrayal and control. The premise is dramatic but I missed the dark and gritty mafia-style trope; the characters are strong and determined; the romance is edgy -our couple are quick to fall in love. BEAUTIFUL CRIMINAL does not end on a happily ever after but a happily ever after –for now with a slight cliff hanger to keep your attention.
