REVIEW: 5 out of 5 for this reader folks!

“Rachel, Paula Quinn has a new …” … “YES, YES, YES I will review! ABSOFRICKENLUTELY!”

So when Paula has a new release, this is generally how quick the response to a book review request is! LOL

The Scots Bride by Paula Quinn is the 6th book in her “The MacGregors: The Highland Heirs” series, and it is just as incredible as her previous 5. A highland historical romance where you get a taste of a time that was very tumultuous, the characters are believable and steamy, and the story line gets your heart pumping with each page you flip. I would recommend you read the previous books in this series and while you are at it be sure to check out her previous series where this one branches off from. Nothing like returning to characters that you fell in love with and seeing how their life has progressed. Personally that is one of my fave parts about Paula”s books, I get to visit old friends every few months.

Patrick MacGregor is a rogue. Straight up, no pretense, he is what he is. He has no time for marriage as his heart is a wandering heart. He seeks excitement, adventure and day to day living. He fights, he drinks, he keeps it simple and easy. and if a woman just so happens to cross his path, well who is he to refuse? He is handsome, rough around the edges and is about to have his world rocked by a raven haired lass who he happens to make eye contact with in a tavern.

Charlotte Cunningham is our raven haired lass who is just as set in her ways as Patrick is. She is stunning, intelligent, daring and comes to realize that eye locking with the hot rogue in a tavern she has no business in visiting is detrimental to her plan. NEVER fall in love and marry. Her father and brothers saw to that mindset by teaching her a horrid lesson that has left her desiring to be left the heck alone for her life. But, that man who set her on fire is always around, and she soon begins to wonder if falling in love could be so bad. Perhaps falling in love is not the issue though, as Patrick is from an enemy clan, and only more blood shed could come out of this union if the truth is set free.

This is a true slow burn kind of read. You get the instant attraction and the catch and release effect with this novel. You know this couple is facing some serious odds but you will come to root for them to find their way. They are very complimentary of the other, but not predictably so. They have their humorous moments, but I have to say it was the steamy love that I absolutely loved. Man can Paula Quinn write a love scene.

Set against the incredible highland scenery, for those that have experienced a Paula Quinn book, you will feel nostalgic when you read her descriptions, and for those that are reading her for the first time, you will fall in love with the vivid pictures her writing creates. I love the gruff, no apologies aspects of this time, but I also loved that her characters likes to break the rules.

Another fabulous book Paula, each book you write has it’s own feel and while the enjoyment remains the same, it is wonderful to get to that conclusion in different ways. I highly recommend for my fellow historical romance fans and be prepared to gobble this story up quick! 🙂

HAPPY READING! 🙂

Charlie caught the subtle shift of his gaze toward her when she glared at him, doing her best to keep her eyes above his chin and ignoring his long, sculpted physique and broad shoulders. Was he speaking to her or her captor?
Dunbar laughed at his offer. “You don’t even carry a sword.” He looked him over. “Or even a place to hide one.”
It was true. Charlie hadn’t noticed it before. Patrick Campbell spoke like a Highlander and had dressed like one when she’d first seen him at Blind Jack’s yet he carried no obvious weapons.
“I dinna’ need one,” he claimed, his amiable smile changing slightly into something more ominous.
Charlie knew it was true. He had fought Hamish with no weapons other than his fists. What kind of Highlander didn’t carry a sword? The kind who doesn’t need one.
Campbell moved closer to her and the eight men behind her. His gait was wrought with ease and confidence while her brothers and her father remained still.
“I’ll kill you for this, Campbell,” Duff swore.
“That’s doubtful,” Campbell tossed back without turning around. Instead, he looked at Charlie, now only a few inches away, standing between him and her captor.
If there wasn’t a blade to her throat, she would have taken a moment to admire him and all his hard angles.
“Untie me,” he said to Dunbar, “and I’ll fight them all with no help or risk of injury to ye or yer men.” He lifted his bound wrists up, close to Charlie’s face and the dagger at her throat. “The Duke of Argyll will hear of how ye aided his nephew.”
Dunbar seemed to think it over for a moment and then moved the dagger away from her neck to possibly cut Campbell loose. But instead of waiting to be free, the Highlander moved in a blur of speed snatching the dagger from Dunbar’s hand. In one fluid movement that Charlie almost missed by blinking, Campbell, still bound and clutching the hilt in his fingers, lifted his arms and then brought them back down to capture Dunbar’s head between his forearms, and Charlie’s head between his thick upperarms.
An instant turned into an eternity while he pulled Dunbar closer, wedging Charlie up against his chest. Time slowed as she looked up and he tiled his head to meet her gaze. She stared into his summer-glade eyes—ringed by lashes that were that long—and the evidence of Hamish’s wrath on his lip. His current wounds and an older one which had broken his nose saved him from being pretty. His mouth crooked ever so slightly—just enough to flash his dimple and completely befuddle her. A rascal. That’s what he was. He was helping her. But why? Before she had to ponder it further, the instant was over.
He hauled Archie Dunbar an inch closer and knocked him out with a clean blow, forehead to forehead. He moved quickly and lifted his arms to release Dunbar from his hold then gave him a powerful kick in the guts to topple him over.
“Run!” He pushed Charlie behind him and faced the rest of the Dunbars alone.
Duff reached them at the same time and an instant before the stunned expressions on the faces of Dunbar’s men wore off and they rushed forward.
“Give me your hands!” Charlie commanded, tugging on Campbell’s sleeve. When he obeyed, she cut him loose using her black blade.
The fool took a moment to smile at her before she tucked the dagger back under her skirts.
Hendry finally joined the fight but Charlie couldn’t take her eyes off Mr. Campbell in the melee.

REVIEW:

5 out of 5 for this reader folks!

Before I get into the meat of this review, I have to say this entire series is one of my fave historical highlander romances. Paula Quinn has written 3 generation series that follows the romantic adventures of two families that have merged into one. Nothing wrong with picking up this book and enjoying the story without previous knowledge of this series. Paula ensures that her reader will not feel lost in any way, BUT, it’s very satisfying as a reader to have enjoyed the back stories of her characters. It’s wonderful to revisit previous characters who have aged and fulfilled the kind of life you had hoped for them to have. So I strongly recommend you go back and start at the beginning. 🙂

A Highlander’s Christmas Kiss is the 5th book in Paula Quinn’s “The MacGregors: Highland Heirs” series. As I have mentioned above, this series is a branch off two previous series.

Cailean Grant has had a rough go as of late. He lost a woman whom he was falling in love with in the previous book, and he has decided to stew in his anger and bitterness by joining a disgusting vigilante group called “The Black Knights”. Believing this is a better option than burdening his family with his dark heart, he is placed in a situation that he will soon regret. Cailean gives the fateful “nod” to killing a man in front of his family during a celebration. Just so happens this man is a Menzie, a long time enemy of the Grant’s and MacGregors, and a man that Cailean believes attacked his cousin Patrick.

Temperence Menzie is a strong highland lass who believes in honour, family bonds and doing what one must to ensure the survival of the Menzie name. When her father is killed in front of her eyes by the hated members of “The Black Knight” she vows to take her revenge. Little does she know, the man she is about to save, is the man she wants to kill.

Temperence finds Cailean severely wounded and close to death on her families land. Being a kind hearted woman, she brings Cailean into her home and nurse him back to health not having a clue that he is the man that gave the order for her father’s death. Before long, a romance blooms and both are pulled out of their darkness. What happens though, when Temperence discovers that Cailean is a hated Black Knight, and the man she is in love with?

I love Paula Quinn’s writing. Every time she releases a new book I am always eager to get my hands on it. She is a visual writer, meaning every scene is crisp in my mind and I feel the emotions that are portrayed. I feel the dread of truths being revealed, and I feel the angst and love between her characters. It doesn’t hurt that she also tends to write her loves scenes on the “hotter side”. It is easy to swoon over her men, and root for her woman.

I loved the way this story came together, and the way it resolved many issues from previous books. The title suggest Christmas, and yes Christmas is present, but it didn’t take over the entire story the way some Christmas books can. Actually it was just icing on top of an already yummy cake. LOL

If you are looking for a yummy highland historical romance, you have found it. I guarantee you will giggle, get angry, fall in love and close your book with a sigh! LOL

HAPPY READING! 🙂

Highlander's Christmas Kiss Teaser

excerpt

She stopped walking and pulled on his hand to stop him as well. “Who am I to you?”
What? What had he said? He realized quickly enough, scowled, and then smiled, giving in to what his heart was telling him. “Ye are—” He paused, not truly sure what to say. He hadn’t wanted to care for her, but he did. He’d let her in, but how could he have denied her entrance? She’d been through much, thanks to him, and yet she still smiled, she still sang, she still had compassion to help him heal.
He began again, reaching for her. He pulled her closer and wrapped his arms around her plaid- encased body, shielding her from the wind. “Ye are my candle in the dark.” He stopped again to take her in. He smiled. “I’m better at puttin’ a quill to m’ words than I am at speakin’ them.”
Her wide, beautiful eyes glittered like the snow dusting the braes. He wanted to lose himself there in the expectant hope that lit her gaze.
“You’re doing just fine,” she assured him softly. “Continue, please.”
He shoved aside everything on his mind but her. What was left scared the hell out him. “I canna—”
She waited in silence while he fought his demon for her. Her hope began to fade to disappointment.
It made him smile to think her hope was to be with him and she was waiting to hear him tell her.
“I canna take my gaze from ye, lass. No matter what I’m doin’, m’ eyes find their way back to yer rich dark hair fallin’ over yer flawless jaw, the relaxed curl of your bottom lip that tempts my legs to bring me to wherever ye are. I lay awake at night imaginin’ yer soft inhalations of breath. They fill my heart with something other than mortar and fury. I want to bring ye to me but I’m unworthy of yer dreams. Still, I want to be in them, as ye are in mine.”
“You see?” she said breathlessly. “Just fine.” She closed her eyes and parted her lips when he dipped his head to hers.
He moved his mouth over hers, basking in the intimacy of kissing her, capturing her short, eager breaths. His senses came alive and he used each one of them to fill himself with her. She tasted like passion and innocence. When he slipped his tongue over hers, she opened her arms and coiled them around his neck, covering them both in his plaid. He listened to her heart beating like ancient drums. Or was it his own heart he was hearing? He withdrew a hairbreadth so he could look at her again. The sight of her dreamy-eyed and wanting more nearly drove him mad. He brushed his nose across her temple to her hair, drinking in the scent of her, like the familiar fragrance of peat and pine. “Ye’re bringin’ me back to life, lass.”
He kissed her again, barely holding back the passion raging inside him to be released.

REVIEW

5 out of 5 for this reader folks!

Man I adore this Scottish/English family called MacGregor/Grant. Every time I return to a book from this series I am filled with anticipation as I know I am about to indulge in some Highland HAPPY! 🙂

The Scandalous Secret of Abigail MacGregor by Paula Quinn is the third book of The MacGregors: Highland Heirs series, which happens to be a spin off of two previous series called The MacGregors and Children of the Mist. Please do yourself a favour and indulge in these two series as it will enhance the experience you get from this third one. I promise you will fall in love with this entire family! 😉

Abigail MacGregor is the daughter of The Chief Robert MacGregor and Davina MacGregor. You learn in their story that Davina is English royalty and this is hush hush. When a summons arrives ordering Davina to appear before England’s Queen Anne, Abigail immediately insists in taking her mother’s place to see what kind of danger lurks. Abigail is one smart and very tough cookie. She is a true highland lass and has proclaimed that one day she will be the leader of her clan.

General Daniel Marlow is Queen Anne’s right hand guy. He is a loyalist, Jacobite Killer (and yes The MacGregor’s are Jacobite’s) and fiercely protective of his Queen as he looks upon her as a mother figure. He is tasked to accompany Abigail to England. Before he leaves, he learns a secret that threatens his relationship with his Queen and leaves him questioning much.

As these two go about their journey together they fight, joke, admire, hate, indulge, push away, protect and question the other. They seem to have this strong pull to the other despite that all odds are against them. Add in some lurking danger, dangerous plots of murder and life ending secrets and well … yup …. you have the makings of one fricken fantastic book.

Oh Paula Quinn, you do write English men yummy and Highlanders HAWT! The love of this family and of your lead characters is palpable but it’s returning to the familiar and seeing how they have faired in their lives that I treasure the most. It’s like a warm blanket and hot cup of tea on a cool rainstormy kind of day .. soul filling! 🙂

Cannot wait for the next book .. and those reading this review, you can read this story somewhat independent of the series, but please believe there is so much more to gain when you understand the history of these beloved characters!

HAPPY READING 😉

The MacGregors: Highland Heirs Series #1.5 & #2 by Paula Quinn-reviews

The MacGregor Highland Heirs series

5 out of 5 for this reader folks!

Oh Paula Quinn, you are becoming a go to, fave, highlander romance author of mine. I do believe I am reading your books some what backwards but all the more fun for when I start at the beginning and already know what the future has held! 😉

This review is for the next two books (well a novella and full novel) of her Highland Heirs series. Just like the first book of this series,The Seduction of Miss Amelia Bell, we are set in early 18th century when Scotland was conflicting with England. The lasses are sassy, sweet and strong while the highlanders are determined to fight their fights and certainly flaunting the sexy as they capture their goals and their ladies. Some clans war from past conflicts and land while others bond together to keep their numbers strong. There is much action, brotherhood, heat, smexy passion, witty wenches, bitchy bitches and a natural flowing story that will keep you 100% engaged. If you have read Paula Quinn’s previous books then you will enjoy being reunited with many of her characters.

The Sweet Surrender of Janet BuchananBOOK 1.5 – The Sweet Surrender of Janet Buchanan
Release Date: October 7, 2014
Genre: adult, historical romance, Highlanders

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk/ Barnes and Noble / KOBO /

DESCRIPTION

SHE WOULD NOT BE CONQUERED . . .

Janet Buchanan is no man’s property. She refuses to marry her family’s sworn enemy-consequences be damned. She’d rather take a dagger to the brute herself. Yet when a tantalizing-and infuriating-man from her past comes to her rescue, Janet finds herself undeniably tempted by his hot, hungry kiss.

HE COULD NOT BE TAMED . . .

Notorious for his prowess as a lover and a fighter, Darach Grant has only one goal in mind: to defend his kin’s land from the impending siege of a hostile clan. The last thing he needs is the delicious distraction of Janet Buchanan-the only woman who can stir his ire as deeply as she warms his blood. But Janet’s intended will stop at nothing to claim her, forcing Darach to choose between surrendering his honor . . . or his heart.

REVIEW

We met Janet back in the first book after her clan had kidnapped Darach Grant. Janet is the sister of the clan chief and had been caring for Darach’s wounds while the negotiation for his release was settled. She showed much dislike for Darach but deep down you know her blood boiled for him.

Now many months later, Darach has been asked to return to his kins castle to help defend it against an enemy clan. Knowing he is about to face Janet Buchanan again, the woman who lit a huge fire and threatened to end his bad boy ways, he decides to go in head strong and allusive. That lasts for all of 30 secs because once these two reunite it’s GAME ON! When it is revealed that in hopes of peace, Janet may have to wed the enemy chief, Darach is determined to prevent this … even at the expense of his own heart.

These two lit up my ereader and I wish that they had a full novel. The push pull was antagonizing and captivating all at the same time and if two people were ever meant to be, it most certainly would be these two!

DESCRIPTION

“Deliciously romantic and sensual . . . Scottish romance at its very best!”–MONICA McCARTY, New York Times bestselling author, on Seduced by a Highlander

AN INNOCENT STOWAWAY

As the sheltered niece of a Highland chief, Caitrina Grant longs for adventure beyond the lush hills of Scotland. So when a pirate ship glides into the loch, tempting her with promises of exotic lands and hidden treasures, Trina sneaks aboard. But she is unprepared for the consequences-and the seductive captain who demands the ultimate price for her deception . . .

A SINFUL PIRATE

For Alexander Kidd, the sea is no place for a lady. Pursued by deadly enemies from every direction, Alex won’t rest until he claims the bounty of riches left to him by his father, the notorious Captain Kidd. A stowaway will not be tolerated-no matter how beautiful. But soon fighting his desire for Trina becomes his toughest battle yet, and he will have to make an agonizing choice: sacrifice his quest-or lose the woman who has stolen his heart.

REVIEW

ARRRRR .. love me a pirate! Add in a highlander lass and you have a great mix of historical romance.

Caitrina Grant longs for a life of adventure. She has no desire to be an everyday highland lass who marries, ensures her castle runs smoothly and has a bigillion kids. She wants to see the world.

Captain Alexander Kidd is a hard core pirate. He is also on the hunt for a treasure but must claim his map from the Grant clan first. After he has done so, he sets off for his prize without realizing he has two accidental passengers. Trina and her cousin. Already on route and refusing to turn back, Captain Kidd decides to drop them at a separate port and carry on. However, Trina the spitfire is making it awfully hard for him to keep his hands off of her .. that .. and she is pretty good at pirate life.

Fearing that her family will believe that she was kidnapped by the pirate, Trina struggles with the reality of falling in love and wanting this action packed life and knowing that if her clan finds then, her pirate has more trouble than the seas … daddy’s wrath. It turns out however, there is even bigger trouble they need to be concerned about .. trouble that is deceptive, cruel and heart wrenching.

The chemistry these two have is off the charts but I have to say my fave thing about Trina was her ability to make the entire crew just gush over her. 🙂

Both were excellent reads that left me very pleased. Endearing moments that were surrounded by laughter, heart ache and so much action, I have to say I would ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND these books!

HAPPY READING! 🙂

REVIEW

5 out of 5 for this reader folks!

Man that was one amazing highland read! Everything that I treasure in a historical/medieval/highland romance novel was present. You will find friendly banter among the warriors (speaks volumes of the kinship they feel towards on another), a feisty and easy to love heroine and her down to earth sidekick, one HOT leader who is captivated by this feisty heroine but has to stick to a code or sorts as opposed to falling in love with her, action packed battle, dreadful antagonists and a setting so beautifully described you are left with a stunning image in your mind. PERFECT MIX! 🙂

The Seduction of Miss Amelia Bell by Paula Quinn is the first book of her new The MacGregors: Highland Heirs series. I have not read anything previous of Paula Quinn’s but I will say that I am bumping up her series on my TBR list. This series is a spin off of her previous series that feature the children of previous couples. I an excited to go back and read all about how they came to exist!

Edmund MacGregor is the epitome of a highland warrior. He is brave, strong, handsome, feared, deceptive as required, patriotic, and will do anything and everything he can to prevent a treaty from being signed allowing England to official own Scotland … even kidnap the daughter of a duke and the betrothed to a Chancellor who will be in attendance to this signing. Hoping to use this woman to force his enemies hands, it is quite ironic that it turns out it is his hand that is forced …. in love.

Amelia is a sweet beauty who lives her life loyal to her family. Haunted by “bad luck” she is somewhat looked as an disaster in the making but absolutely treasured by her father. When she is told to marry for the benefit of her country, she is prepared to do her duty. When she meets a visitor and experiences a stolen heart stopping embrace with him, her whole world is about to be turned upside down. Especially when her visitor kidnaps her and shows his true intent.

Throughout this novel we experience a wonderful story of how these two fight, embrace, admire, regard, love, and understand each other. You can see where the conflict of “how can we be together” arises and how they get to a point where they know they want to overcome it. Supported by cast of secondary characters that add their own spice to this story, these two go on a remarkable journey together.

If you love a good highlander novel, you have to check this book out! I was absolutely satisfied by the time the last page was read! LOL

HAPPY READING! 🙂
