SEX MACHINE

He’s good for one thing and one thing only—and she wants it bad.

Honey Carmichael has never had a decent orgasm, and she’s out to change that with the one man in town known for his superior skill between the sheets.

Blake Dempsey is happy to help Honey with her “problem” as long as she knows he’s only interested in sex. His heart was broken when his high school girlfriend was killed in the car he was driving, and he has nothing to offer other than more orgasms than Honey can handle.

Which is just fine with her—until fantastic orgasms aren’t enough anymore for either of them and unexpected feelings turn hot sex into messy entanglement—and that most definitely wasn’t in the plans.

But you know what they say about plans…

A sexy, dirty stand-alone romance intended for MATURE audiences. If you can’t take the heat in Blake’s bedroom, stay out or you might get burned. You’ve been warned!

REVIEW: SEX MACHINE by Marie Force is a sexy, stand alone, contemporary adult, erotic, romance story line focusing on construction company owner Blake Dempsey, and professional photographer Honey Carmichael.

Told from dual first person points of view (Honey and Blake) SEX MACHINE focuses on the friends to lovers relationship between life-long friends photographer Honey Carmichael, and construction worker Blake Dempsey. Years earlier, Blake lost his high school girlfriend Jordan in a fatal vehicle accident and in the ensuing time he has buried his guilt with one-night stands and too many women to remember. His reputation as a ‘sex machine’ is not without merit as he is a man with more to offer than most. Enter Honey Carmichael who makes Blake an offer he cannot refuse using six words that grab Blake’s attention immediately-Blake’s reputation as a ‘sex machine’ has our heroine wanting a piece of the action knowing that her heart will break when all is said and done.

Blake is broken; a damaged soul who has spent years wallowing in guilt for an accident that wasn’t his fault but to his friends and family our hero has struggled with the grief believing himself responsible. Throughout the story line the reader is pulled into the mind of a man determined to punish himself including pushing away the woman he has loved for most of his life believing he doesn’t deserve happiness when Jordan lays dead in the ground. The grief is overwhelming and the author ensures the reader feels the hero’s emotions and inability to let go of the past throughout most of the story.

Honey Carmichael is a woman who has ‘dated’ most of the men in town, but Blake is the man who calls to heart- a heart that knows Blake’s life was shattered years before. When Blake offers one-night only, Honey isn’t prepared for the overwhelming emotions that threaten to destroy a friendship she has cherished most of her life.

The relationship between Honey and Blake is a friends to lovers romance; a highly sexual relationship where Honey discovers that Blake likes a little kink in the bedroom and is willing to offer herself up to the man with whom she has fallen in love. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic, seductive and graphic.

We are introduced to Honey’s best friend Lauren- the local florist shop owner, as well as Blake’s bud Garrett- a man who has more than a passing interest in Lauren; and Matt and Julie whose own family is about to expand. I am hoping Marie writes a story for Lauren and Garrett. The epilogue fast forwards the story line approximately one year wherein we get a glimpse into the future.

SEX MACHINE is an emotional and heartbreaking story about grief and understanding; about friendship and love where two passionate people struggle with the fall out of guilt and letting go of the past. The premise is intimate, hopeful and provocative yet predictable; the characters are vibrant and energetic; the romance is captivating and intense.

Honey“I want you to fuck me.” I’m proud of the fact that I never blink as I stare into the baby blues of the man I just blatantly propositioned. In public, no less.Blake Dempsey chokes on a mouthful of beer, his eyes watering as beer meets lungs in an unholy alliance. For the first time since I walked into the dark, dank bar, my resolve begins to waver as I question the wisdom of this mission. But if I don’t take the bull by the horns, literally, I might never know why everyone else makes such a big freaking deal about sex. My best friend, Lauren, has assured me that Blake Dempsey is the answer to my most pressing problem. And she speaks from experience.Tentatively, I pat him on the back, hoping to get him breathing again so we can get back to our conversation, such as it is. Let’s face it—he’s no use to me dead.As he continues to hack beer out of his airway, people begin to take notice of us, which is the exact opposite of what I wanted. I’d planned to come into the dive bar where Blake has his end-of-the-day beer at exactly six thirty every night before heading home—alone—make my proposition and walk out of there with him.I hadn’t counted on him choking on his beer or having the eyes of every man in the place on me as I wait for him to recover and give me an answer. What if he says no? Men never say no to Honey Carmichael, which is part of my problem. I have a reputation for attracting them like bees to. . . well, honey. But I’ve never been tempted to keep one of them, thus my well-earned reputation as a love ’em and leave ’em kind of gal. It’s not my fault that I’m blessed with thick honey-blonde hair, brown eyes that made the boys start simpering over me in fifth grade and a rack that’s been getting me in trouble since high school. Not to mention the long legs that somehow manage to stay tanned year round and an ass that Tommy Lonergan once referred to as a work of art. So I’ve had my share of men. So what? The one thing I’ve never had is a decent orgasm with a man, which is why I’m still alone at almost thirty and happy that way. Most of the time.Blake finally quits sputtering long enough to look up at me with eyes still watery from coughing. “You wanna run that by me again?”“You heard me right the first time.” I resist the urge to fidget and hold his steady gaze. His steely blue eyes seem to look right through me, as if searching for the truth behind my blatant invitation. As he runs his fingers through a short crop of dirty blond hair, his entire torso ripples with muscles. My mouth waters at the thought of all those muscles wrapped around me. I lick my lips as my nipples stand up to take notice and my pussy clenches in anticipation. From what I’m told by a reliable source named Lauren, Blake has the biggest cock in town and knows how to use it. That thought causes the throbbing between my legs to intensify. When desperate times call for desperate measures, I believe in hiring the best man for the job. And these are most definitely desperate times.“What brought this on?” His sexy drawl and the relaxed way he occupies the bar stool belie the intensity of his stare. To look at him, filthy from a day of hard, physical labor, one might dismiss him as just another working man.One would be mistaken.Blake runs the most successful construction and renovation business in the area, and judging by his grimy appearance, he works as hard as the many men he employs. On him, the grime only makes him more appealing.“Did you finally run out of guys to fuck in this town? No one left but me?”I can’t deny that I’ve probably had too much sex, looking for the elusive something that has other women waxing poetic about the act. To me, it’s nothing special, two bodies coming together to expend some energy. Big deal. I’ve never understood what all the hoopla is about, a sentiment I recently shared with Lauren. After she finished laughing at me, Lauren had said, “If you want to know what the hoopla is about, you need to fuck Blake Dempsey.”Lauren ought to know. She’d been Blake’s fuck buddy for a short time years ago and had declared him an absolute machine in bed. Lauren assures me that doing the deed with Blake will result in nonstop orgasms and pleasure unlike anything I can possibly imagine. “One night with him,” Lauren had said, “and you won’t wonder anymore.”“You wouldn’t care?” I’d asked my friend.Lauren had shrugged. “It was just sex between us. That’s all he’s capable of. Everyone knows that. A girl would be a fool to fall for him, so I took what I could get, and when it was over, it was over. It was a long time ago. Have at him and The Cock.”Even though I’ve known Blake all my life and have never once considered him boyfriend material—mostly because my best friend dated him ages ago—I’m desperate enough to know what I’ve been missing out on to walk into a bar and utter a sentence that no doubt has my dear, sweet grandmother rolling in her grave.I can’t think about what Gran would have to say about me unashamedly propositioning a man. All I can think about since the conversation with Lauren a week ago are the words “machine” and “nonstop orgasms.” The best orgasms I’ve ever had are the ones I’ve given myself, thus my need for Blake and his legendary cock.“Are you gonna answer the question?” Blake drawls.I snap out of the fog to realize I’ve been staring at him while he waits for me to answer him. “What was the question again?”“Did you run out of other guys to fuck? Is it down to me?”I hold back a wince at his judgmental tone. I’m not proud of the number of men I’ve test driven, seeking the hoopla. “What do you care?”“I don’t.” It’s a well-known fact that Blake Dempsey doesn’t care much about anything other than his family, his business, the people who work for him and a few select friends. He shrugs as he drains the beer bottle and puts it on the bar next to a ten-dollar bill. “It’s your business, not mine.”When he stands to his full six-foot three-inch height and looks down at me, I nearly swallow my tongue. My nipples stretch against the confines of my bra and tank top, as if they’re reaching for him. I hold my breath waiting to see what he will do.He brings his head down close to my ear. “Follow me home.” His tone is gruff and sexy and authoritative.I shiver as my heated core weeps in anticipation. My eyes travel from broad shoulders to lean hips and below where the outline of that legendary cock has me licking my lips once again. Soft faded denim hugs him in all the right places, and it’s all I can do to refrain from reaching for the button and giving it a tug to get things started. My mouth waters as I pictured his big cock springing free of his clothes, ripe for my mouth, my pussy and anywhere else he chooses to put it.“Honey?”Once again I shake off the sexual stupor and force myself to meet his gaze. If thinking about sex with him gets me this hot, I can’t imagine what the actual deed might entail.“Are you coming?”Even though Lauren had assured me he wouldn’t say no, I’m still insecure enough to be surprised that he accepted my offer. Oh my God, I’m really going to have sex with Blake Dempsey. Resting a hand on his sculpted chest, I say, “Oh yeah, I’ll be coming, and so will you, big boy.” The cocky statement, exactly what he expects from me, covers the quaking going on inside.A throbbing pulse in his chiseled jaw is the only sign of emotion in his otherwise blank expression as he takes me by the hand and heads for the door.Mindless of the prying eyes of the other customers, I scramble to keep up with his long-legged stride.“Where’s your car?” he asks when we’re outside in the fading sunlight.Heat from the long summer day rolls off the blacktop in scorching waves, but I shiver from the almost predatory way he looks at me. “There.” I point to my tiny silver car with the decal on the side hawking my photo studio.“I’ll wait for you.” He drops my hand and stalks to his big black truck with his own company emblem on the side. His long strides eat up the pavement. I watch him go, fascinated, by the way his jeans hug his muscular ass. I can’t wait to see if his ass looks as good naked as it does in denim. Who am I kidding? It’ll look even better.I order my quivering legs to move. They finally get the message, and I rush to my car, managing to drop my keys in the dusty dirt parking lot. I bend to get them and am scorched by awareness. As I stand up, I venture a glance at his truck and find him watching me intently, his entire focus on my ass. The quaking begins anew as I get into the car and fumble some more with the keys before managing to get the car started. At this rate, I’ll need an insane asylum before I ever get what I want from Blake. His truck leaves a cloud of dust in its wake as he pulls out of the parking lot onto Highway 90, heading out of downtown Marfa, Texas. The sun is a ball of fire in the sky as I follow him at a safe distance. The last thing I need is to smash into his back end because I’m such a nervous fool. It’s not like I’ve never come on to a guy before. I have. Too many times, but this guy has always been so remote and off-limits that it took all my courage to walk into that bar and say the line that Lauren and I rehearsed until I got it just right. My hands are trembling and sweaty as I reach for my phone.“What’d he say?” Lauren asks when she picks up on the first ring.“I’m following him home.”“To his house?”“Yes.”“This is huge! He never takes women to his place.” Lauren lets out a shrill squeal. “I’m so jealous!”Instantly alarmed, I swerve before I right the car. “You said you didn’t care!” I can’t lose Lauren, the closest thing to family I have left. “I’ll call it off right now if you don’t want me to go with him.”“I’m not jealous about him. I’m jealous that you get to be with The Cock.”I swallow hard. “It can’t be that different from all the others.”Lauren’s dirty chuckle comes through the phone. “Oh, Honey. . . You have no idea what you’re in for. Tomorrow, when you’re walking bow-legged, remember I told you so.”A bead of sweat slides down my backbone. Propping the phone between my ear and shoulder, I turn the AC on high and follow the black truck as it hangs a left onto Antelope Hills Road. “You always did exaggerate, Lo.”Lauren snorts with laughter. “You’ll know soon enough that I’m not exaggerating. Call me in the morning. I want every, single detail. In fact, if you could take notes, that’d be great.”“Shut up.”“Honey. . .”The unusual seriousness in Lauren’s voice has me immediately on guard. “What?”“Ever since your Gran died, you’ve been looking for a place to call home again. It’s not going to be with him. No matter what happens, don’t forget that. Do you hear me?”“I hear you.”Blake’s story is well known around town. He blames himself for the car accident our senior year of high school that had claimed the life of his girlfriend, Jordan Pullman, who’d also been a friend of mine and Lauren’s. The loss of Jordan had rocked our entire class, but no one more so than Blake. Even after the police ruled that the accident was the fault of the other driver, Blake continued to blame himself. He’d kept his distance from people—especially women—ever since, throwing his considerable energy into his business. Occasionally, he took a lover, but he never kept her for long.My story is equally well known. Abandoned at the church when I was days old, Nora Carmichael, who’d never married, took me in and raised me as her own. Because Nora was in her early sixties when I came to live with her, I always called her “Gran.” She died ten years ago when I was only twenty, leaving me to fend for myself in an unforgiving world. I’ve done okay, all things considered, but it’s been a struggle.“Call me in the morning?” Lauren says.“I will.”“Remember: Only sex.”“I gotcha.”“Did you use the ‘I want you to fuck me’ line?” Lauren asks. We’d debated a number of ice-breaking lines and had settled on the most direct of the many choices.“Sure did.”“I need to try that one on Garrett.”Poor Lauren has been lusting for years after Garrett McKinley, accountant to Blake’s company and most of the other businesses in town. “What’s stopping you?”“Um, only the fact that he thinks I’m a brainless floozy.”“You’re neither brainless nor a floozy. Look at what a booming business you’ve made of the flower shop. How can he think you’re brainless?”“Maybe because I act that way any time he’s in the same zip code as me?”“I still say you should hire him to do your books. Then he’ll find out how full of brains you really are.”“Not happening. I wouldn’t give him the satisfaction.”I watch Blake pull into a driveway a block in front of me. The door on a two-car garage goes up and Blake pulls in. “I gotta go. We’re at his house.”“Just sex,” Lauren says one more time.“I heard you the first ten times. Bye, Lo.” Ending the call, I repeat Lauren’s refrain. “Just sex.” The last place in the world I’m going to find my home is in the arms of the most remote man I know. Determined to take this one night, and only this one night, with him and “The Cock”—a thought that makes me giggle nervously—I follow Blake’s hand signal to pull into the empty half of the two-car garage.By the time I make it out of my car and into the laundry room that adjoins the garage, he’s removed his work boots and stripped down to boxer briefs that hug his tight ass.I stare at the muscles on his back that taper down to that most excellent butt—and wonder if we’re going to get busy right here. I clear my throat to remind him I’m here.He seems in no particular rush as he tosses his clothes into a front-loading washer, adds detergent and starts the cycle. Then, as if I’m not there, he goes into the kitchen.I’m not sure if I’m supposed to follow him, but I do it anyway. He hands me a piece of paper. “Tell them to send my usual and get whatever you want.”I somehow manage to tear my gaze from the most lickable male chest and ripped abs I’ve ever seen to glance at the red and green print on the paper. I recognize the logo of Pizza Foundation. “They don’t deliver.”“They do for me. I pay extra.”“I’m not hungry.”He shoots me a meaningful look. “I worked all day, and if I’m going to be expected to work all night, too, I need fuel—and so do you.”A burst of heat creeps from my chest to my face as the implications of his statement settle on me. All night. Whoa.“Make the call. I’m going to grab a shower. There’re drinks in the fridge. Help yourself.”For a long moment after he leaves the room, I stand motionless in the middle of a nicer-than-expected kitchen. What the hell am I doing here? Did I really go to the bar Blake Dempsey frequents and ask him to fuck me? “You’ve lost what’s left of your mind.”I could cut my losses and leave while he’s in the shower. Sure, the few times a year that I run into Blake at the grocery store or post office or at the home of a mutual friend would be awkward from now on, but I can live with that if it means saving some face.My cell phone chimes with a new text message that jostles me out of my temporary paralysis. Digging into my purse, I pull out my phone. From Lauren: No matter what, don’t chicken out. You’ll be sorry forever if you do. Trust me on that!As always, Lauren’s timing is impeccable. Sucking in a deep breath and releasing it, I call in the pizza order and then take a beer from the fridge. If there’s ever been a time for liquid courage, this is surely it.Copyright 2016. HTJB, Inc. Seducing The Tycoon by M.K. Meredith – a Review

Seducing The Tycoon by M.K. Meredith – a Review

Seducing the TycoonAmazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo / BAM / The Book Depository

Description:
International tycoon Drago De Luca has the world at his feet and he knows it. But back home in Italy, his beloved grandmother’s family inn is on the verge of closing down for good, thanks to hotshot American heiress, Chase Huntington, and her new hotel. Drago has to protect Nonna’s inn, even if it means getting close enough to Chase to convince her she needs to leave. But the more time he spends with Chase, the more he’s drawn to her passion, her love of his culture, and the way she looks in those Louis Vuitton heels.

Chase Huntington would give anything to enjoy her time with charming, sexy-as-hell Drago in the style capital of the world, but she has to make sure the new Huntington hotel opens successfully. How else can she prove she’s not just fashionista with a fortune–she’s an heiress savvy enough to take over the family’s biggest hotel back in California? But somewhere between boutiques and business plans, she falls head over Louboutins for Drago. But when Drago’s true motive for spending so much time with her comes to light, it could destroy everything Chase built and everything she thought she found in Italy.

Review:

Chase Huntington was introduced to us in MK Meredith‘s Malibu Betrayals (Malibu Sights series #2, review available here) as the privileged BFF who had her shi# together.  She remains driven and motivated, but Seducing the Tycoon allows us far more insight into this character whose single-minded focus is thrown off kilter by a tall, dark and handsome distraction.  Chase intends to indulge while simultaneously remaining aloof, keeping it casual, but the “Dragon of Europe” has other plans for her.  Bigger, all-encompassing ones, to be sure.  Let’s see if Drago’s walls are as impenetrable as he purports them to be.  He’ll need his infamous resolve if he’s to succeed.

Instead of boning up on Italian, a language she will need for success at the grand opening of The Huntington Hotel, Chase decides to wing it.  What she encounters, unfinished lobby and electrical issues, basically nothing up to her exacting standards, leaves her in desperate need of a translator to get her message across.  I’m a Spanish tutor.  When my students ask why they couldn’t just access their Google Translate app to communicate, I tell them that it would be a disservice; they would be at a disadvantage without some knowledge of the host country’s language.  I took an immediate dislike to Chase Huntington for her frustration directed at the Italian staff who worked at her family’s hotel.  It very well could have been Chase’s silver-spoon-fed impatience that made Drago’s decision to sabotage her solo launch an easy one.
“…he called out a few instructions to Chase’s staff.  Finish setting up the lobby, but cooperation ends there-unless he was with her…She wouldn’t succeed with her grand opening, but he’d make sure it looked like she could with him by her side.”

Buuuuut…the gal had pluck, and that, combined with a good heart is worthy of closer inspection.  Chase had to claw through her family’s nearly insurmountable expectations to make a name for herself, and that kind of perseverance is nothing short of admirable.  Drago on the other hand is underhanded in his plotting and scheming to sabotage Chase’s grand endeavor.  He’s a mogul on his own and it’s saying something when he found his own tactics deplorable.  Chase and Drago need to shed the irritating skin.

When the truth is exposed, will Chase hold a grudge against Drago for his duplicity or acknowledge her new affinity, deep feelings, for the city, and people, she’s come to adore?

“And as for making a home, it isn’t the where that is important, it is the joining of a place to the beating of your heart.  When you feel the pulse of your city in your veins, that’s when you know you are home.”

Did Chase have to leave California to find her true home?

Get ready to imagine the sounds, sights and smells, delicious aromas, of Italy in Seducing the Tycoon.  MK Meredith gives us shady exteriors before revealing layers of love.  Chase and Drago face off in and out of the hotel and their journey exceeds projections!

The Coldwater Warm Hearts Club by Lexi Eddings – a Review

The Coldwater Warm Hearts Club by Lexi Eddings – a Review

The Coldwater Warm Hearts ClubAmazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo / BAM / The Book Depository

Description:
For Lacy Evans, returning to flyover country is the definition of failure. She had everything she wanted—an award-winning design firm, a chic city condo, a handsome, aristocratic almost-fiancé. Then her boyfriend ran off with her receptionist and her clients’ money. Now she’s out of business and crashing on her parents’ couch. When she slides into a booth at the Green Apple Grill, she’s feeling lower than a worm’s belly.

But Lacy’s old classmate Jacob Tyler is happy to see her. Coldwater’s football hero came back from Afghanistan short part of a leg and some peace of mind, but he’s counting his blessings, and Lacy could be one of them. Then there’s her ex, Daniel, wearing a sheriff’s badge and a wedding ring, but looking like young summer love. And a host of unlikely serendipities: the selfless do-gooders who sneak around taming curmudgeons and constructing second chances. The Fighting Marmots. The sprawling, take-no-prisoners Bugtussle clan.

Lacy thought she knew her hometown, and herself. She just wanted to get on her feet and keep running. But the longer she stays, the more she finds to change her mind. . .

Review:

The Coldwater Warm Hearts Club by Lexi Eddings is the first book in her new Coldwater series. This was a nicely done romance that also touches on the hero’s issues with PTSD (he was a wounded war hero, having major flashbacks).

Lacey Evans is returning home to Coldwater, after losing everything she owned to the betrayal of her partner and now ex boyfriend, who took all the money and ran.  Lacey had left Coldwater quickly after her graduation and made a successful career as a designer, and now with herself in financial ruin, she finds herself where she never wanted to return.  Arriving in Coldwater in the early morning hours, she stops at the local eatery for a bite to eat, before going home to her parents.

Jacob Tyler, our hero, runs the Green Apple Grill and recognizes Lacey immediately.  Lacey is surprised to see Jacob cooking, and equally shocked to see that he is wearing a prosthetic leg, having lost part of his leg in war torn Afghanistan.  Jacob has learned to accept his disability and has done well running the grill, but underneath it all, he has his own secret issues in the form of flashback nightmares at night.

What follows is a slow built romance the will find two friends, with their own problems, learn that living in Coldwater isn’t so bad, and love is has a way of sneaking up on you.  Lacey rebuilds her life, finding that she is content to stay in Coldwater.  Jacob senses that Lacey is the woman for him, who also comfortable with his disability. But both of them are also gun shy on relationships; Lacey with her ex and Jacob with the fiancée who left him after his injury.  I thought Jacob and Lacey made an engaging couple, as I found myself rooting for them to get past each of their own issues.  There was also a side story of Lacey’s former teenage boyfriend, Daniel, who is now the sheriff, as he trys to convince his separated wife to give him another chance.  Another nice feature was the warm Hearts Club that helped those in need.

The Coldwater Warm Hearts Club was a nice sweet romance, with a small town background and a couple trying to overcome issues to find love.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date August 9, 2016

When Olivia’s life exploded–after she found out she was not the adopted child of a privileged Chicago family but of a notorious pair of convicted serial killers–she found a refuge in the secluded but oddly welcoming town of Cainsville, Illinois. Working with Gabriel Walsh, a fiendishly successful criminal lawyer with links to the town, she discovered the truth about her parents’ crimes in an investigation that also revealed the darker forces at work in the place that had offered her a haven. As if that wasn’t enough, she also found out that she, Gabriel and her biker boyfriend Ricky were not caught in an ordinary sort of love triangle, but were hereditary actors in an ancient drama in which the elders of Cainsville and the mysterious Huntsmen who opposed them had a huge stake.

Now someone is killing street kids in the city, and the police have tied Ricky to the crimes. Setting out with Gabriel’s help to clear Ricky’s name, Olivia once again finds her own life at risk. Soon the three are tangled in a web of betrayals that threatens their uneasy equilibrium and is pushing them toward a hard choice: either they fulfill their destinies by trusting each other and staying true to their real bonds, or they succumb to the extraordinary forces trying to win an eternal war by tearing them apart.

••••••••••

REVIEW: BETRAYALS is the fourth installment in Kelley Armstrong’s contemporary, CAINSVILLE paranormal/fantasy series. BETRAYALS should not be read as a stand alone as each consecutive installment builds upon the events of the previous books. BETRAYALS advances the series approximately four months.

SOME BACKGROUND: Olivia Taylor-Jones aka Eden Larsen is a twenty four year old woman whose biological parents-Todd and Pamela Larsen- were accused of multiple murders and they currently sit in prison awaiting retrial. Discovering she was adopted and not knowing the truth behind her early years, Olivia finds refuge in the small town of Cainsville where mysterious omens, visions and portents of doom focus their power and intensity at Olivia Taylor-Jones. The people of Cainsville are just as perplexing with their secrets, double speak and touch of magic-everyone in Cainsville is connected and everything happens for a reason.

Told from first person point of view (Olivia) and dual third person perspectives (Ricky and Gabriel) BETRAYALS is a story line steeped in Celtic lore where the Fae rule the town of Cainsville, and Olivia’s portents and visions reveal the past, the present and the possible future. When several young women go missing, and are presumed dead the finger of guilt is pointed at Olivia’s boyfriend Ricky. The connection to Olivia brings our heroine front and center, along with Gabriel, her boss and lawyer, into a paranormal investigation that pulls our trio between the past and present; where specieism and the supernatural powers pit themselves against one another; where revenge and betrayal are at the heart of so much death and destruction.

Cainsville is a town of magical folk whose glamor hides the truth about the people who live there; where dreams and nightmares are controlled; where visions blend the past and the present betraying a possible future that is likely to unfold. Omens, visions, and harbingers of doom become an every day occurrence as our heroine must read the signs for directions and clues.

The Celtic lore and mythology focuses on a love triangle that is represented by our present day trio: Olivia (aka Matilda), Gabriel (Gwynn) and Rickey (Arawn) wherein the past Matilda had to choose between Gwynn or Arawn. The love triangle continues in present day whereby our heroine is in love with both men, and both men are in love with Olivia. History continues to repeat itself, with each successive generation; Olivia, Gabriel and Ricky each have a role to play and fulfill; the possible future is foretold and Olivia is struggling with her emotions and feelings. There is plenty of personal growth for each of the three leading characters-some is resignation and acceptance, while most is a willingness to go forward and explore. The people of Cainsville have chosen their ‘victor’ and continue to push Olivia in the direction they choose.

BETRAYALS is a wonderful and enchanting story line where the past becomes the present, and history continues to replay and repeat. The premise is dramatic, intriguing and suspenseful; the characters are energetic, passionate and fascinating; the mythology and lore are entertaining and inventive. As with all of Kelley Armstrong’s books and series, the romance is secondary to the main story line but the potential for heartbreak makes the reader vulnerable to sorrow-one way or another.

Polly Lockhart is horrified when she wakes the morning after her twenty-third birthday to realize she made a fool of herself with a sinfully delicious man. She tells herself she doesn’t have time for romance anyway, as she’s fighting to keep her mother’s beloved bakery afloat and finish her culinary studies. That all changes when her class tours the famed Sugar Rush headquarters, and Polly collides with her dream man again.

As she succumbs to their hot attraction, Polly soon realizes her bakery isn’t the only thing that needs saving. Luke, driven and unyielding, will burn out unless someone convinces him to taste the sweetness of life. But can Polly remember this sugar rush is only temporary?

REVIEW: SWEET DREAMS is the first installment in Nina Lane’s contemporary adult SUGAR RUSH romance series focusing on the Stone family who own and operate the Sugar Rush Candy Company. This is Sugar Rush CEO Luke Stone, and twenty three year old bakery shop owner/ college student Polly Lockhart’s story line.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Luke and Polly) SWEET DREAMS follows the building relationship between the CEO of the Sugar Rush Candy Company Luke Stone, and bakery owner Polly Lockhart. On her twenty third birthday Polly was pushed by her best friend Mia to seduce the hottie at the local bar but too many drinks, a heartbreaking but humorous rejection, and a lasting impression found our heroine alone the next morning with nothing but a hangover, some unfortunate memories, and a scheduled tour of the Sugar Rush Candy Company along with her college classmates. Enter CEO Luke Stone, and the last person our heroine was hoping to meet-Luke is the hottie from the evening before, and the man who had featured in our heroine’s dreams. What ensues is Luke’s pursuit of Polly Lockhart, and his attempts to turn around Polly’s floundering bakery known as the Wild Child.

Luke Stone is a workaholic with no time for relationships, vacations or fun. His Aunt Julia continues to try and fix up our story line hero with any number of women with exquisite pedigrees and social graces that seem to be absent in our story line heroine. Polly is a struggling independent business woman who is trying to turn around her late-mother’s bakery-a bakery that started to fail when her mother was diagnosed with cancer and eventually died. Luke, a man whose own business has wavered on the financial markets in the past, takes Polly under his wing and attempts to fix up her business both inside and out. When Polly is offered a nine-month culinary scholarship to Paris, France, Luke knows that he will not be the one to destroy her dreams, but instead allows the woman he loves to walk away and destroy his heart. The $ex scenes are intimate and seductive. The sexual chemistry is palpable.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Polly’s best friend Mia, her sister Hannah, co-worker Clementine, and friend Ramona. We are also introduced to Luke’s brother Evan, his father Warren, and his meddling Aunt Julia. There are six Stone brothers- Evan and Hannah’s story will be told next in SWEET ESCAPE.

Nina Lane’s SWEET DREAMS is a sexy Cinderella-esque romantic fairy tale. Luke has issues of control and is unable to walk away and let go of the business he has worked so hard to be a success; Polly is a woman determined to help Luke relax and take some time for himself. The premise is heartwarming, emotional and playful; the characters are passionate and spirited; the romance is provocative and alive. There is no outside conflict brought into the relationship except that which the couple brings themself.

ACCEPTANCE (Club X #5) by K.M. Scott-a review

Acceptance

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / B&N / KOBO /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date September 18, 2016

Life after Club X has been good for the three brothers who used to run Tampa’s most exclusive fantasy club. Cassian and Kane run one of the city’s up and coming restaurants, CK, and Stefan has his own successful bar in the old Club X building.

Two marriages, three kids, and three happy couples make up one big happy family.

But there’s another son of Cassian March III out there, another illegitimate child who never knew his father. The three brothers don’t agree that they should find him, and even more importantly, what they don’t know about Sebastian could risk everything they cherish so dearly.

(NOTE: This book focuses on the three original brothers, Cassian, Stefan, and Kane. Also, Acceptance was originally released in the Complete Club X Series Set.)

•••••••••

REVIEW: ACCEPTANCE is the fifth (and final?) installment in K.M. Scott’s contemporary, adult CLUB X erotic, romance series focusing on three brothers: Cassian and Stefan March, and their half brother Kane Jackson. ACCEPTANCE is their continuing story with an emphasis on Kane and Abbi’s struggling relationship, and the introduction of another potential sibling thrown into the mix.

NOTE: ACCEPTANCE was first released in the Complete Club X series boxset in July 2016.

Told from several first person perspectives (Cash, Stefan, Kane, Abbi and Sebastian) ACCEPTANCE advances the series several years and follows the fall out of Kane’s search for another one of his father’s b*astard sons. While Kane and Stefan risk meeting the young man who bears a striking resemblance to both Kane and Cash, not everyone is aware of, or on board, with inviting another brother into the family. To complicate matters, Kane’s relationship with Abbi begins to crack when he refuses to reveal the secret about where he goes and why- to protect the woman and the family that he loves.

We catch up with all of the series couples and their growing families, and witness the struggle as three brothers contemplate a future that may or may not include a younger sibling. The family dynamic is slightly fractured when tensions between brothers is thick with the possible fall out of acknowledging another one of Cassian March III’s illegitimate spawns, as well as the ongoing unease and uncomfortable situation between sisters in law for sins of the past. Club X is now a memory, and the brothers are now focused on their nightclub and bar.

ACCEPTANCE is a fascinating story line with heart stopping moments and emotional force; a culmination of one man’s collective progeny, their growing familial relationships, and the struggle to accept what is and what may never be. The premise is inspiring; the characters are colorful and passionate. We can only hope that there is a future story focusing on Sebastian March.

ABOUT THE BOOK: As part of the Watchers, Rhys is used to all types of combat, pursuit, and interrogation. But hacking and tracking through hidden online channels is where he excels. Shattering codes and sneaking around firewalls comes as easily to him as a swordfight or street brawl with a predatory enemy.

Cooking up sweet new pastry creations is Enza’s dream job. Kitchen appliances never fail her, unlike every computer she’s ever touched. Her fledging baking business is doing well, yet as streetlights flicker with her changing mood, she can’t shake the feeling that she’s different from everyone else. But life as a regular Chicago girl is all she’s ever known…until one hot summer night.

Violence threatens both of them when her world collides with Rhys’s in a dark city alley. As a raw and formidable ability awakens in her mind, she becomes targeted by the last person she expects. Drawn to his sweet baker with a pull he can’t deny, Rhys vows to protect her—no matter the consequences that will change their lives forever.

REVIEW: Stepping into the world of Torth and its awesome characters is always a treat. And this time we enjoy the treat of sexy lash demon Rhys and lovable baker, Enza. And speaking of treats, our heroine is a baker so we get to read about all sorts of treats from blueberry muffins to pound cake with icing on top. My mouth was just watering reading about her treats. I really enjoyed reading about Enza baking and sharing her treats with Rhys and his fellow warrior buddies. Enza was a really likeable heroine. She wasn’t whiny or argumentative which is often common in many female characters main or supporting character-wise. She had a lot of traits that I found admirable. She proved adaptable and courageous in many scenes that I wanted to high five her.

Rhys and Enza together was a treat in itself to read about. They may have had a rough beginning but they made it up with their trust in each other, having each other’s backs and yes chemistry. It was adorable reading about Rhys trying to be a gentleman and court Enza. One thing I really appreciated was I get it that Rhys made a mistake but he did not let that mistake color their relationship like pushing her away or becoming cold when she needs him the most. He didn’t do that. As for Enza’s transition into their crazy world and shocking discoveries, Rhys was super patient and understanding of her. Their love scene was sweet and pleasant to read though I do wish there was more love scenes because I really enjoyed them as a couple. Then again maybe I’m just being greedy after all they were the focal point of the book since there wasn’t really any side plots going on which is another thing I really appreciated about this book.

My closing thoughts, this awesome book had something for everyone. Romance, action-packed scenes, edge-of-your-seat suspense, sex, light-hearted humor, desserts, outstanding characters and out-of-this-world magic. I highly recommend this book and I excitedly look forward to reading more about these sexy lash warriors being paired with these strong awesome heroines.

REVIEW: During the solstice on Torth, hormones are running rampant and fertility is an all-time high. Demons, fae, nymphs and other creatures of Torth are all affected; filled with lust and searching for that warm body to scratch that itch. To many creatures it’s just that, a warm body to scratch that itch. That’s all Tanner was looking for, to get relief from the solstice itch. What he didn’t expect was running into his mate in the midst of lust chaos at the club looking for the same thing.

Granted it wasn’t exactly ideal to meet your mate in their circumstance but it certainly made for one hot and steamy sex scene against the wall in one of the private rooms in the club. Honestly Sharon Key never fails to disappoint in her love scenes. If you want to read a book that leaves you breathless, I highly recommend you reach for a book by Sharon Kay.

I admit that I felt that the book was a little too short, I did wish the book was a little longer. Despite that I did heavily enjoy this novella and there was a lot to like in this novella. While many of the different creatures have powers that come with their breed like lash demons can summon fire balls from their hands or deserati can scry, Saige has a different power that she can use mind control. I thought she was dealt an awesome power that many doesn’t have. I did enjoy seeing the glimpses of Saige and Tanner’s separate lives. The rescue scene of getting Saige and her brother Logan out of their imprisonment was a fun, fast-paced and intense action scene. What I enjoyed the most was the last scene where Saige and Tanner decide that they want to be together and have an adorable love scene at the pool.

I know I said this before but I’m going to say it again, this book was a fun play on fantasy. To realize that it wasn’t the after effects of post-solstice sex affecting you but the fact that that warm body is in fact your mate that your destined to be with. Fantastic novella and I hope Sharon Kay keeps them coming.

WYVERN’S PRINCE (Dragons of Incendium #2) by Deborah Cooke

Wyvern's Prince

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / B&N / KOBO /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date September 20, 2016

Engaged to the crown prince Urbanus of Regalia, Gemma knows that her fiancé was the one to try to arrange Drakina’s assassination. She intends to keep the betrothal and take vengeance upon Urbanus from inside his palace. She’s not counting on more dark revelations about her betrothed, much less his beguiling charm. Alone in Urbanus’ palace, Gemma can only rely upon herself to ensure her survival—or can she trust the mysterious stranger who pledges to aid her, for his own reasons?

••••••••

REVIEW: WYVERN’S PRINCE is the third installment but second full-length story line in Deborah Cooke’s adult DRAGONS OF INCENDIUM paranormal/fantasy romance novella series focusing on the twelve royal princesses of Incendium. This is princess Gemma’s story- a re-imagining of the Frog Prince with his beautiful dragon mate. WYVERN’S PRINCE can be read as a stand alone but I recommend reading the series in order as the author adds a short story between each installment revealing some background information about the preceding story.

SOME BACKGROUND: For fans of Cooke’s previous series about dragons, THE DRAGONS OF INCENDIUM is NOT connected to, or a spinoff from, her best selling Dragonfire series. The current series focuses on female dragon shifters of Incendium searching for their ‘HeartKeeper’-their mate- and the ‘Carrier of the Seed’ but the princes of Regalia are not necessarily the male that calls to the princesses hearts. The world building reveals the political alliances and potential fall-out when two monarchies collide.

Told from several third person points of view WYVERN’S PRINCE follows Princess Gemma as she is about to reluctantly marry Prince Urbanus of Regalia but our heroine has other plans once the wedding has been consummated. Knowing that Urbanus is not the princess’s Heartkeeper, Gemma believes that once she conceives she will carry out her plans to destroy the man who had previously arranged to assassinate her sister, and killed her best friend. But Gemma’s plans fail when her betrothed casts a spell that forces our heroine to depend upon someone else for help. What ensues is a cross- country journey as Gemma struggles to regain her powers with the help of an unusual source.

We are introduced to Urbanus’s twin brother Venero, although for all intents and purposes he is believed to be missing or dead. It is Venero that will call to Princess Gemma’s heart and in doing so help heal them both along the way.

WYVERN’S PRINCE is a fairytale-esque story line with dragons and magic, building love, an evil queen who is not above destroying her family to get what she wants, and a little bit of science fiction added for some interesting color. The premise is imaginative and enchanting; the characters are dynamic and colorful; the romance is passionate and fated. WYVERN’S PRINCE is a well written, energetic and engaging story that sees another Princess find her Heartkeeper and her mate.

Nero's DreamNERO’ S DREAM
(Dragons of Incendium 1.5)
by Deborah Cooke
Genre: adult, paranormal, fantasy, romance

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / B&N / KOBO /

About the book: Release Date July 19, 2016

Nero has always aspired to be an astrologer in the royal court of Incendium. When he divines a portent about the pending royal marriage, he makes the perilous journey to the capital city, only to be kept from delivering his tidings in time. Worse, Nero is assigned the task of pursuing a dragon princess bent on taking vengeance upon her reluctant groom, a feat he knows can’t be done. His dream appears to be lost forever—until the captivating princess Peri surprises this unlikely advisor.

Nero’s Dream is a short story set in the same world as the Dragons of Incendium series of paranormal romances. It should be read after Wyvern’s Mate.

•••••••••

REVIEW: NERO’S DREAM is the second installment (and novella) in Deborah Cooke’s adult DRAGONS OF INCENDIUM paranormal/fantasy series focusing on the twelve dragon shifter princesses of Incendium. This is astrologer Nero’s story line.

SOME BACKGROUND: For fans of Cooke’s previous series about dragons, THE DRAGONS OF INCENDIUM is NOT connected to, or a spinoff from, her best selling Dragonfire series. The current series focuses on female dragon shifters searching for their ‘HeartKeeper’-their mate- and the ‘Carrier of the Seed’ but the princes of Regalia are not necessarily the male that calls to the princesses hearts. The world building reveals the political alliances and potential fall-out when two monarchies collide.

Told from third person perspective (Nero) NERO’S DREAM follows ‘independent’ astrologer Nero as he is tasked with revealing the truth about the message he has read in the stars. Nero is not a member of the Royal court astrologers, and has never been formally trained but our hero finds himself on a journey to forewarn the Royal family about the impending disaster forecasted by the stars. When Nero’s prophecies come to reality our hero is offered a position within the Royal court but not before Nero finds himself attracted to the youngest Princess Pericula or Peri. Perhaps there is romance building for Nero and Peri.

NERO’S DREAM is a short story that runs parallel to the events of book one-Wyvern’s Mate-revealing some of the background information not previously explored in the story. I recommend reading the series in order as each subsequent novella and short story builds upon the events of the previous book or runs parallel to the current time line.

Deborah Cooke’s world building is colorful as the author pulls the reader into the fantastic; the imaginative journey between planets borders on the sci-fi; the romance is sweet and fated. We learn a little bit more about the politics of Incendium, the power of a dragon when spurned by a potential mate.
