REVIEW: A DASH OF CHRISTMAS by Samantha Chase is the ninth and final instalment in the author’s contemporary, adult THE MONTGOMERY BROTHERS romance series focusing on the Montgomery siblings and cousins. This is chef and restaurateur Carter Montgomery, and Emery Monaghan’s story line. A DASH OF CHRISTMAS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Carter and Emery) with an introductory chapter from sisters-in-law Eliza and Monica Montgomery A DASH OF CHRISTMAS focuses on Eliza and Monica’s attempts to find a love interest for Eliza’s son Carter Montgomery. When her fiancé with political aspirations is caught, on numerous occasions, with his proverbial pants down, Emery Monaghan’s finds herself seeking shelter, far away, for the paparazzi and unsupportive family who are defending her obnoxious ex. With an offer to help write and edit a Montgomery cookbook for the upcoming holiday season, Emery will come face to face with her childhood nemesis, in the guise of chef and restaurateur Carter Montgomery. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Carter and Emery as they are forced to live together while they work on the book, and the potential fall-out as their time together comes to a close.

Emery Monaghan was all but forced into the relationship with Congressman Derek Whitman, a relationship that her parents supported and adored but Emery knew Derek had been unfaithful, and the sh*t was about to hit the fan. A formerly independent woman, Emery found herself floundering in a world of embarrassment and heart break when the news broke about Derek’s affairs. When Eliza Montgomery offered Emery a chance to ‘hide away’ from prying eyes, Emery jumped at the chance but was caught unaware when Carter Montgomery was pulled back into her life. Carter Montgomery had no idea he would be working with Emery Monoghan, the young woman who saw Carter as nothing more than the antagonizing boy who upset her life but Carter hid his affections for our story line heroine, affections he was hoping to bring to into the present.

The relationship between Carter and Emery is an enemies to lovers; an opposites attract, acrimonious childhood friendship that disguised Carter’s attraction to the little girl he would grow to love. The $ex scenes are passionate but mostly implied.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including many of the previous story line couples. We are briefly introduced to Emery’s ex fiancé Derek Whitman, and her social climbing parents who are willing to turn a blind eye to Derek’s behavior.

A DASH OF CHRISTMAS is a story of family, friendship, second chances, and love; an enjoyable and sweet tale of one man’s professional struggle, and one woman’s spirited attempts to make it on her own. The premise is spirited and emotional; the romance is tender; the characters are energetic and inspiring.

She motioned to the table. “Let’s eat!”
He joined her and found it hard to focus on the food in front of him—he was still in awe of the transformation of the house. “I can’t believe you pulled this off.”
She smiled and picked up her burger. “I’m extremely organized and efficient. In other words, I had a plan.”
Picking up his own burger, he looked at her and saw how pleased she was, unsure if it was because of a job well-done or the greasy treat she was eating. His stomach growled, and he needed to ignore how unhealthy the meal was and just…go for it. “Well, color me impressed,” he said, referring to her, but realized it could also have meant the meal.
It was surprisingly good.
And satisfying.
When neither had spoken for several minutes because they were too busy eating, Emery leaned over and said, “Welcome to the Dark Side. We have empty calories.”
Carter almost choked on his food but managed to swallow it down before reaching for his drink. Her sense of humor was something he was finding to be utterly charming.
Add that to the list.
There was no time to dwell on it, however, because he was almost done with his burger and was seriously enjoying it.
Now that deserved some dwelling.
“Admit it,” Emery said from beside him, leaning back in her chair. “You enjoyed it.”
“Never.”
She laughed, husky and sexy, and…he seriously needed a distraction.
Reaching over, she looked in the second bag and then gave him a knowing glance. “Who are these chicken nuggets for?”
“Oh, um… I thought you might like them,” he said, not wanting to look at her. Carter busied himself with finishing his fries—which were salted to perfection.
“Hmm. I don’t know if I could eat them right now.” He heard her rummaging around in the bag again. “And what about this? Is this some sort of apple pie?”
Busted!
“Maybe.”
She laughed again—loud and hearty. “Carter Montgomery, you better admit right now that you bought all of this for you because you remember what it’s like to eat like a normal person!”
He lost the battle with his own laughter. “I will do no such thing.”
Standing, Emery took the bag with the extra food and made her way across the kitchen. “Well then, as much as I appreciate the thought, I’m way too full to eat another bite, so…I’ll just throw this out.”
“Wait…what?” he cried, coming to his feet. “Why would you do that?”
With a careless shrug, she replied, “These things never reheat well, so it’s pointless to save it. Besides, what do you care? I can give you the five bucks they cost you, if you’d like.” The bag was dangling over the trash pail, and the look on her face was full of challenge.
And amusement.
“Emery,” he began as he took a step toward her. “Just…put the bag down.”
“And nobody gets hurt?” she teased before letting out a very feminine giggle.
Deciding to stall, Carter studied her. “I just hate to see food go to waste.”
“All you have to do is admit you got it for you. Just say the words and I’ll put the food back on the table.” She shook the bag for good measure. “Come on. I dare you.”
Those were fighting words.
Before he could question it, he lunged for her and Emery let out a high-pitched squeal before taking off around the kitchen island. By their third time around, Carter caught her around the waist and spun her while she cried out, “Uncle! Uncle!” They were both laughing hysterically by the time he collapsed back in his chair with her in his lap. It took several minutes for them to calm down.
“Man, you just cannot stand to be proven wrong,” she said, but made no attempt to move from the circle of his arms.
This was dangerous territory. He knew that. It felt far too good to hold her. Turning his head, he inhaled the smell of her shampoo, daring to lean in further until his lips were touching her ear.
Softly, he murmured, “Just give me the apple pie, and nobody gets hurt.”
It was meant to be funny—a small joke to go along with all the teasing they’d been doing—but it didn’t feel so funny when Emery let out a low moan at his words.
“Make me,” she whispered, and—holy crap. It was all Carter could do not to haul her over his shoulder and take her inside to his bedroom.
Her name came out as a plea as Carter ran his tongue along the shell of her ear. Emery trembled in his arms as they tightened around her. The bag fell to the floor and she shifted ever so slightly so they were nose to nose. Then it was her turn to sigh his name. Her hand came up and cupped his cheek, and for a moment, he was afraid to move. Afraid to breathe. He didn’t want to risk doing anything to break the spell or ruin the moment.
It would kill him.
Reaching up, he mimicked her pose by cupping her cheek. He owed it to her to be honest.
“This isn’t about making either of us stop talking,” he said gruffly. “This is about me kissing you because I have to.”
Slowly, Emery licked her lips. “Good.”
It was as if everything happened in slow motion from there—like they were being drawn together by forces beyond their control, and when their lips touched, they both sighed and eased into it.
All Carter could think was how this was possibly his sweetest victory ever with Emery—knowing she wanted his kiss just as much as he needed to kiss her.

“This was Christian’s idea?” she asked incredulously.
“Oh…um, well, yes. He feels incredibly thankful to you for all you did.”
“I see.”
Sophie wasn’t stupid—she’d accept any and all the jobs she might get through this. That was a no-brainer. But knowing that Christian had more than likely orchestrated it bothered her. Was he doing it simply because he was thankful, or was it because he’d acted like a jerk when he’d refused to let her help him?
Unfortunately, she didn’t know him well enough to know for sure.
With no other choice—because she would make herself crazy sitting here thinking about it—she took a shower and got ready, bracing herself to go knock on Christian Montgomery’s door.
Did she take a little extra time in the shower and use her favorite scented soap?
Yes.
Did she spend a little extra time on her makeup?
Yes.
And did she curse more than once while she styled her hair because it was way too long and took forever to make look good?
Again, yes.
But as she looked at her reflection when she was done, all Sophie could say was, “Damn, girl! You look good!”
With all of the extra attention she’d already given herself, choosing something to wear was a bit more challenging. Obviously, he knew she wasn’t working, so showing up on his doorstep dressed up would look ridiculous. However, showing up in a pair of cutoffs and a T-shirt seemed wrong. It wasn’t as if she had an extensive wardrobe to begin with, but right now it sure as heck felt that way!
Grabbing a pair of faded denim capris and a bold blue halter top, she felt casually sassy. That was a thing, right?
Slipping on a pair of flip-flops, she grabbed her purse and was out the door, feeling much calmer than she had an hour ago. The drive took less than fifteen minutes, and as Sophie parked in his driveway, she took a moment to give herself a small pep talk.
“The good thing is that you have a job,” she said quietly. “It shouldn’t matter why you have the job, the fact is that you have one.” She paused. “And while it would be great if he apologized for coming off as being ungrateful last week, you need to remember that he’d had a traumatic day and maybe it wasn’t about me at all.”
Sighing, she flipped down her visor and checked her reflection in the mirror, fixing her lipstick. When she was done, she flipped it back up and continued her talk.
“If he recommended me for these jobs because he feels sorry for me, then I am completely within my rights to tell him that I’m offended. I don’t need charity. However, if he did it based on my experience, then I’ll be polite and say thank you.” She took a steadying breath and thought about how she was going to feel when she saw him back at the office after he went back to work. “He needs to know that I’m going to be checking up on him and his health more than anyone else in the company—especially in the beginning—since I know his history. Like it or not.”
No doubt he wouldn’t like that one bit, but those were her terms and she wasn’t going to be budged.
At least, she hoped she wasn’t.
With one deep, cleansing breath, Sophie climbed from her car, fidgeted with her hair, and made her way up the front steps. Ringing the bell, she wondered how Christian was going to react to her showing up unannounced.
Although, really, how else could she show up? It wasn’t as if she had his phone number.
When the front door opened, she almost forgot how to breathe.
His hair was a bit of a mess and it looked like he hadn’t shaved in a few days. But it looked good on him. Really good. His blue eyes sparkled with surprise and she swallowed hard, trying not to sigh dreamily.
Then she glanced down.
Big mistake.
Dressed in a pair of black athletic shorts and nothing else, Christian Montgomery was like some sleek, athletic god.
She’d recognized that he had a fit physique before, but seeing him standing before her practically naked confirmed it.
And then some.
Right now, she was having a hard time forming words. Never before had she seen such a perfect male specimen and her fingers nearly twitched with the need to reach out and touch his flat stomach, and then maybe scratch their way up to tangle in his hair. She bet he smelled really good too.
“Sophie?”
Oh. Right. He’d asked her a question.
“Um… I wanted to talk to you,” she said, her voice trembling a little—and not from nerves over what she wanted to say, but from the sight of him.
Maybe she should go…
Stepping aside, Christian motioned for her to come in, and with no other choice, she walked into his house.
Swallowing hard, she walked in front of him and looked around. She’d admired the house when she was here before, but at the time, her main concern had been Christian and his well-being. Now she could see just how beautiful the space was—high ceilings, exposed beams, colors that were cool and soothing in shades of tan and blue, and a wall of windows facing the ocean.
Not a bad way to live, she mused.
“Can I get you something to drink?” he asked, coming to stand beside her.
Part of her was afraid to turn and look at him because…well, she didn’t want to do anything stupid.
Like drool.

Tugging at the hem of her dress for the hundredth time, Megan silently cursed the fact that she’d let her mother talk her into it. The navy-blue fabric clung to every ample curve and was shorter than the dresses she normally wore, and all in all, she was feeling very self-conscious about the whole thing.
She was surrounded by family and knew she shouldn’t be feeling anything but happy to be here, but old insecurities still lingered. Okay, maybe they had resurfaced thanks to her ex constantly harping on her about losing weight. Megan wasn’t fat—she knew that—but she was definitely not slim. She envied her cousin Summer. She had the kind of body Megan had always wished she had—slim—and she looked good in everything. Whereas Megan had to worry about how every article of clothing she had would fit or if it would be too clingy.
Another tug at the hem of her dress as she looked around to see where Summer was. They didn’t get to see each other nearly enough and maybe…
“Excuse me?”
Megan turned and saw the most attractive man she had ever seen in her life. He was tall with sandy-brown hair and a smile that seemed almost too perfect. She swallowed hard, convinced he couldn’t possibly want to talk to her.
“Would you like to dance?” he asked, and Megan’s heart beat wildly in her chest.
She looked around and wondered whether someone had put him up to this. But he didn’t look the least bit insincere. If anything, he seemed slightly amused by her confusion.
She cleared her throat and nodded. “Um…yes. Thank you.”
His smile broadened, and it was almost lethal. He had dimples too. She had to stifle a sigh when she noticed them.
“I’m Alex Rebat,” he said, extending his hand to her. “I’m a friend of Zach’s. And you are?”
Blushing because his voice was as magnificent as the rest of him, she replied, “I’m Megan Montgomery. Zach’s cousin.”
She shook his hand, but he didn’t release hers. Instead, he led her onto the dance floor where a slow song was playing. At first, Megan felt a little self-conscious about dancing with a stranger, but as soon as Alex gently wrapped his arm around her waist, all negative thoughts disappeared.
They swayed together to the music as if they’d danced together for years.
They talked as if they’d known each other forever.
And they were both more than ready to move off the dance floor and find someplace quiet to talk after their fourth dance.
Alex kept her hand in his as he led her from the banquet room to the lobby and finally out to the garden. The sun had gone down, and the entire area was lit with hundreds of soft-white twinkly lights. To Megan it looked like something out of a fairy tale while she felt like she was living in the middle of one.
Hand in hand they walked along the paths as Alex told her about his job as a physical therapist, and the more he spoke, the more she wanted to know about him. He had confidence and passion as he spoke about his work and his life, and she found herself hanging on his every word. And when he asked about her—her job, her life—she felt inferior in comparison.
So she’d given him a brief overview of her IT career and her life in Albany before turning the conversation over to him. The smile he gave her told her he knew what she was doing.
“Not big on talking about yourself, huh?” he asked with a knowing smile.
Megan blushed as she shook her head. “There isn’t much to tell. My job is fairly boring compared to yours. What you do really makes a difference in people’s lives—and after seeing all you did for Zach, I’m in total awe of you.”
They stopped walking, and Alex moved so he was standing in front of her. “Don’t,” he said, his voice a little gruff. “Zach did all the hard work. I was merely there to help. Not every case is as successful as his. He had the drive to do it, and he worked hard to make it happen.”
Both his words and his voice were so intense that Megan was overwhelmed with the urge to reach out and touch him—not just hold his hand but…soothe him. Comfort him.
And she did.
Reaching up with her free hand, she gently caressed his face and heard his sharp intake of breath. This wasn’t her—she didn’t do things like this, wasn’t this forward—and yet she couldn’t help herself.
“Megan,” he said softly as his head lowered toward hers.
She wasn’t an overly romantic person and didn’t believe in things like this actually happening, and yet the instant Alex’s lips touched hers, Megan swore she saw fireworks. Normally she was a little more timid, inhibited, but something about Alex changed that. Wrapping her arms around him, she melted against him—reveling in the heat of his body, the feel of his lean frame against hers. The feeling must have been mutual because she heard a low growl come from him as he pulled her even closer.
Never before had she been kissed like this—it was the kind of kiss that started slowly, and they both sank into it until it kept going and neither wanted it to end. Megan’s hands raked up into his hair, and when they were finally forced to break apart for breath, in only a matter of seconds they dove in for another taste.
For a few glorious moments, they had been cocooned in their own little world out in the garden, but it didn’t take long for other wedding guests to start coming out and walking around, and the mood was broken. Alex never stopped touching her though—everywhere they went her hand was in his, and she found she was thankful for the constant connection.
Over the course of the wedding reception, they danced again and talked and laughed, and Megan was nearly bristling with anticipation by the time Gabriella threw the bouquet. At that point, she knew she and Alex could leave. When she noticed other guests getting up to go, she looked over at Alex and said, “So…”
He was sitting beside her, and the expression on his face told her everything she needed to know.
He wanted to leave.
And he wanted to leave with her.
Casually they walked around and said their goodbyes separately. Out in the lobby, Alex took her by the hand—or maybe that time she took his—and they made their way down the massive hallway that connected the banquet hall to the hotel. Several times Megan had looked around to make sure no one saw them—and not because she was embarrassed but because she didn’t want the interruption. If she didn’t get Alex alone soon, she swore she’d spontaneously combust!
The ride in the elevator seemed to take forever, and she swore the walk to her room was a mile long. But once they were inside and the door was closed?
Perfect.

Fifteen minutes later, Megan felt like a wet noodle as she slid into Gabriella’s car. They’d already called in the massive dinner order, and really, all Megan needed to do was hold the box in her lap until they got to Summer’s. There were worse ways to spend her time.
Once they arrived, Megan was surprised to see that the guys were there already. Zach came out to greet Gabriella, and Alex came out to take the food. When Megan didn’t immediately move to get out of the car, Alex looked at her curiously.
“You okay?” he asked. “Shopping wear you out?”
She laughed softly. “You have no idea. Those two are lethal.”
Zach and Gabriella had already walked into the house when Ethan came out. “Everything okay?”
Alex handed him the box of food with a laugh of his own. “It seems like shopping took a little more out of her than she expected.”
For a minute Megan considered arguing that he didn’t need to talk about her like she wasn’t there, but she was too tired to.
“I can believe it,” Ethan said. “Next time, pace yourself. Summer and Gabriella are like Olympic medalists where shopping and girls’ days are concerned.” With a smile and a quick wave, he was gone.
Alex crouched next to the open car door. “You gonna make it?” he teased.
With her eyes closed, Megan couldn’t help but smile. “Go. Eat Chinese food. Save yourself. Just leave me here to sleep for a day or two.”
“No can do,” he said softly. “If you don’t join everyone inside for dinner, I’ll have to carry you in.”
Turning her head to the side, she opened her eyes and looked at him.
And almost forgot how to breathe.
Damn, why did he have to be so attractive? Here he was after moving furniture and painting all day, and he looked too good for words. She struggled to keep from leaning forward and tasting him. Her mind had to be playing tricks on her because Megan was fairly certain her memory of how Alex tasted and kissed was being overexaggerated.
He leaned in closer—or maybe she was the one who moved. Either way, they were a heck of a lot closer than they had been a minute ago.
Maybe it was the fact that she was feeling extremely mellow or maybe it was the fact that he was too damn tempting to resist. All Megan wanted was to know whether her mind had been playing tricks on her.
Alex whispered her name as he gently pressed his lips to hers.
Oh…
One of Alex’s hands came up and cupped her cheek, and his touch was both arousing and familiar. Megan mimicked his move and marveled in the scratchiness of his jaw, the warmth of his skin. She sighed and moved a little closer, and the kiss went from chaste to inquisitive to a full onslaught in the blink of an eye. She wanted to pull him into the car or have him pull her out onto the driveway so she could feel more of him, but for now, this would have to do—the taste of him and being consumed by him.
No, her mind hadn’t been playing games with her.
There had been no exaggeration.
Alex Rebat was sexy and sensual and completely lethal.
She pulled back because she couldn’t breathe, but Alex’s hand stayed where it was, gently caressing her skin. Megan leaned into it as she tried to catch her breath.
“It’s still there,” he whispered.
Her eyes drifted closed even as she nodded in agreement because she knew exactly what he was talking about.
“I know now isn’t the time, but—”
“Did she fall asleep out there?” Gabriella called out from the doorway with a small laugh. “Come on, Megan! The food’s getting cold!”
Alex stood and held out a hand to Megan. She accepted it and had to bite her tongue to keep from groaning at how good it felt to touch him. He gently tugged her to her feet, and for a brief moment, she was pressed up against him. Slowly she looked up at him and saw the same emotion on his face she knew was on hers.
Desire.
Plain and simple.
It would be so easy right now to reach up, wrap her arms around him, and pull him in for another kiss. As if reading her mind, Alex released her hand and said, “C’mon. Let’s go have some dinner.”
Mutely, she nodded, and they walked side by side into the house.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date December 1, 2015

This Montgomery Has a Head for Business

Working for Zach Montgomery is challenging on many levels-coming from a wealthy and powerful family, he lives by his own rules and doesn’t answer to anyone. But Gabriella Martine has no intention of backing down. She’s used to handling stubborn men, and it doesn’t hurt that Zach is smart, charismatic… and gorgeous.

And a Heart for Adventure

Zach’s perfect world is turned upside down when a climbing accident leaves him broken, angry, and maddeningly dependent. In his slow quest for recovery, Gabriella is always there to help… but as Zach comes to see his beautiful assistant in a new light, he is forced to re-evaluate what it really means to be a man worthy of Gabriella’s love.

••••••••

REVIEW: I’LL BE THERE is the sixth installment in Samantha Chase’s contemporary, adult THE MONTGOMERY BROTHERS romance series focusing on the Montgomery family. This is CEO Zach Montgomery, and personal assistant Gabriella Martine’s storyline. I’LL BE THERE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty, although I would recommend reading the series in order for backstory and cohesion.

SOME BACKGROUND: Uncle William Montgomery considers himself a matchmaker and his focus now centers on his brother, Robert Montgomery’s family. Zach Montgomery is William’s nephew and latest target-a man whose personal and physical recovery from a fall will depend upon his battered relationship with the woman who calls to his heart. Uncle William and Zach’s father Robert have devised a plan to push Zach and Gabrielle together-even if it means destroying Gabrielle’s heart and soul, in the process.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Zach and Gabriella) I’LL BE THERE focuses on a second chance-of sorts-for Zach and his assistant Gabriella. Zach is in recovery and rehab following a mountain-climbing expedition that went horribly wrong leaving Zach a virtual shell of his former self-in pain, slow to heal, and having a difficult time with his mobility, Zach has become an angry, self-absorbed, broken man, and with it comes threats against family, friends and the people who love him the most. Enter Gabriella Martine-Zach’s long suffering personal assistant, and the woman who bears the brunt of Zach’s fiery temper and caustic personality. For five years, Gabriella has been all but ignored by the man with whom she has fallen in love, and Zach is none the wiser or aware of how much his attitude and personal attacks against Gabrielle have broken her heart.

The relationship between Zach and Gabriella is one that began as employer to employee where the forbidden attraction between two people was hindered by a mistaken perception and hurtful words. Gabriella has become a virtual punching bag for her family’s attacks, and Zach’s abrasive attitude, acerbic rants and bully behavior that have left our heroine a victim of circumstance and office gossip, and the recipient of venomous anger. Gabriella is a smart, competent woman who can’t seem to say no to the man that she loves. Zach’s five year ‘temper tantrum’ and his treatment of Gabriella is nothing short of cruel, yet our heroine endured until the bitter end, when Zach, once again, took everything out of context and allowed jealousy and hate to rule his mouth and his mind. Their attraction to one another has not gone unnoticed by family and friends, but Zach is unwilling to acknowledge the truth about the woman who calls to his heart and his issues with his lack of independence and need for help. Just as their relationship becomes loving and romantic, Zach comes face to face with Gabriella’s past, and pushes Gabriella out of his life – one final time. The $ex scenes are seductive but mostly implied.

I’LL BE THERE is an emotional storyline; a heartbreaking romance about healing and recovery; acceptance and denial; moving forward and letting go. The premise is a story of second chances and making amends; the characters are passionate and intense; the romance is full of anguish, anxiety, and slow to build. My anxiety level over Zach’s attitude and treatment of Gabriella and his family, as well as Gabriella’s willingness to accept Zach’s verbal and emotional attacks left me feeling uneasy and distressed.

Hey, everyone! It’s Samantha Chase and I am psyched to be here with you today. This month I am totally celebrating the release of “I’ll Be There” – book six in the Montgomery Brothers series. I fell in love with this family from the very beginning – and I think some of you have too! But there has been something special about Zach and Gabriella’s story that is different than any of our other Montgomerys.

From the time “Meant for You” came out (book five), readers instantly began asking about Zach and Gabriella. We were introduced to them in that book and you really got a sense that there was a story brewing there. They were snarky and argumentative with one another in a way that you just knew was masking some deep feelings. And by the end of the book we had the makings of a wounded hero and an under-appreciated heroine. The best part is that no matter how angry Zach made us, we still believe there’s room for redemption.

And as for Gabriella, I think readers are waiting for her to put her boss in his place! We want her to stand up for herself and maybe make Zach suffer a little in the process. Who doesn’t love a heroine who finally realizes her self-worth and makes the hero come begging? I know I love that!

I think this story – more than any other I’ve written – deals with the complexity of a relationship between two broken people. It’s more than a personality clash and both Zach and Gabriella have healing to do – both together and apart.

excerpt

It was now or never.
Shifting again so he had his arms resting on the table, he looked at Gabriella and studied her face. “The truth?” he asked and waited until she nodded. “Okay, Gabs. But remember, you asked. I invited you here tonight because I needed you to realize how sorry I was for the way I’ve treated you. I’ve done some serious soul searching these last few days and I don’t like the man I’ve become. I’m committed to my therapy with Alex and I’m committed to getting back to being the head of Montgomerys. I didn’t want you to come in here on the defensive. I wanted us to just have some time to talk and…get to know each other again.”
She leaned back in her chair and let out a shaky breath. “Wow. Okay.”
That was it? That was all she had to say? “But more than that, Gabriella, I don’t want to do any of it without you. I need you. You are the reason I’ve been able to accomplish all I have with the company. You’re the reason I’ve been successful in just about every aspect of my life for the last five years.” Reaching across the table, Zach took one of Gabriella’s hands in his and just marveled at how soft it was. He always wondered what her skin felt like and now that he knew, he wanted to feel more. “Don’t leave me. Please.”
Her blue eyes filled with tears and she used her free hand to quickly wipe them away before they fell and then studied their hands on the table. “Zach,” she said softly, “we’ve been over this.”
“I know, I know,” he replied just as softly. “I need another chance, Gabriella. I need a chance to make things right.” He looked up, his gaze meeting hers. “I need you.”
Deciding to be bold, he turned her hand over and twined their fingers together and gently squeezed. He was surprised she didn’t pull away and thought maybe—just maybe—they were making progress. “I know I can’t erase the things I’ve said and done, but if you’ll give me one more chance, Gabs, I promise not to screw up. If I do anything to upset you, you can walk away. Hell, you can slap me in the face, kick me in the shin or throw something heavy at me and I’ll take it. I just…I can’t do this without you.”
Her eyes never left their joined hands.
“I don’t want to do this without you,” he said quietly.
“I’m afraid to…believe you.” He barely heard her words, they were uttered so softly.
Everything inside of him clenched with pain. His always confident, ever-efficient assistant was now distrusting and uncertain—because of him. “I don’t know what to say to make you believe me. Tell me. Tell me what I need to do. Anything. Anything you need from me to gain your confidence, and I’ll do it.”
She looked up at him. “It’s not that easy. Every day I walked into the office, I gave you another chance. Every time you berated me or made me feel like I screwed up and I came back, I gave you another chance. From my standpoint, you’ve had two years’ worth of second chances. I think I’ve been more than generous.”
His other hand reached out to cup her hand in both of his. “I know you have and you have no idea how much I appreciated it.” She looked at him with disbelief. “It’s true! I know I never said it but every morning you were there, I was thankful. Every time you walked into my office, I was thankful. Please. I’m begging here, Gabs.”

REVIEW: WAIT FOR ME is the first installment in Samantha Chase’s adult, contemporary The Montgomery Brothers romance series focusing on the Montgomery family. This is former NFL star Lucas Montgomery and executive assistant Emma Taylor’s storyline.

Emma is William Montgomery’s assistant and William sees something between his son Lucas and his long time PA. What ensues is a ruse perpetrated by Lucas’s father to push together his son and Emma Taylor that eventually ends in a happily ever after but getting there is a comedy of errors and a weekend of temper tantrums, fights and immature behavior.

Lucas is a recluse. A career ending football injury finds Lucas hiding away in a cabin in the woods where he only ventures into the real world for the once monthly meetings with his father and brothers. Lucas has pinned his entire existence on his football career and with the loss, Lucas sees himself as a failure.

Emma is a bit of an enigma. We learn very little about her background or family information. She is a woman who loves to bake and when things begin to fall apart, Emma looks for work at a small town bakery.

The relationship between our couple is acrimonious at best. I felt no spark, no sexual tension and definitely no love between Lucas and Emma, and in this the storyline fell completely flat. The up and down emotional roller coaster was almost bi-polar in its’ reveal; the attitudes and temper tantrums were that of young children who didn’t get their way. They continued to fight and argue until the final pages of the story. The $ex scenes are all implied; fade to black wherein our couple wake up the next morning or days later where the reader is to presume that something happened between the leading couple.

The secondary and supporting characters include the interfering parental units of William and Monica Montgomery who seem to have a knack for arguing and displaying emotional outbursts on a regular basis; and Lucas’s brothers, Jason and Mac who are but a blip on the radar at this point in the series. The world building is limited as the storyline focuses on the building relationship between Lucas and Emma. I am not quite sure what it is the Montgomery family do to earn their millions but it would have been nice to see some information and detail revealed.

WAIT FOR ME was a disappointing read. The constant fighting, lying and manipulation was a distraction to the overall enjoyment of the storyline. I felt no connection to any of the characters.

Genre: adult, contemporary, romance
Re-release: Marcy 17, 2015

REVIEW: TRUST IN ME is the second installment in Samantha Chase’s adult, contemporary The Montgomery Brothers romance series focusing on the Montgomery family. This is Jason Montgomery and Maggie Barrett’s storyline. TRUST IN ME can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. TRUST IN ME can be found together with book one WAIT FOR ME

Told from third person perspective, TRUST IN ME finds William Montgomery, yet again, playing matchmaker for his two remaining unmarried sons. The storyline follows the building relationship between Jason and Maggie. Ever since his brother’s marriage to personal assistant Emma Taylor (Wait For Me #1), Jason has believed himself the target of every single woman at Montgomery Enterprises. With a three week business trip on the horizon, Jason needs a personal assistant who isn’t about to take things to a personal level-enter Maggie Barrett-a receptionist at his father’s company and a married woman-or maybe not! Maggie’s has a secret-one that finds our couple in a precarious position time and again. William offers up Maggie Barrett as Jason’s new PA, with the hopes of another successful Montgomery mating.

There is very little background information revealed about Jason Montgomery. We know he his loyal, well trusted, works for his father William Montgomery and that a bevy of beautiful and not so beautiful woman at work are trying to get Jason’s attention. Maggie is a woman whose past is mired in betrayal, and her position within Montgomery Enterprises finds Maggie hiding in plain sight.

The relationship between our leading couple is one of immediate attraction but Jason believes Maggie is married and our hero is having a difficult time keeping business and pleasure separate. While away, an opportunity presents itself for a night out on the town, wherein Maggie forgets about her ‘marriage’ and crosses the line of no return. Once again, I did not feel a connection to the couple; the sexual tension between Jason and Maggie was missing and virtually non existent. The limited $ex scenes are all implied and fade to black.

The secondary and supporting cast include Jason’s brothers Mac and Lucas, as well as William Montgomery-the family patriarch. The world building skims the business ventures of Montgomery Enterprise-I am still unsure as to the exact nature of the billion dollar business but they do appear to be very big and powerful.

REVIEW:  STAY WITH ME is the third installment in Samantha Chase’s adult, contemporary The Montgomery Brothers romance series focusing on the Montgomery family of Charlotte, North Carolina. This is eldest brother Mac Montgomery, and childhood friend Gina Micelli’s storyline. STAY WITH ME can be read as a stand alone but for cohesion and series backstory I would suggest reading in order.

Told from third person perspective STAY WITH ME is a story about friendship, loss and letting go. Family patriarch William Montgomery likes to play matchmaker and in this, he and his best friend Art Micelli hope to see love for their two remaining children.

Gina Micelli has returned to North Carolina to take care of her dying father Art. At fifteen years old, Gina’s parents divorced and Gina was whisked across country and had rarely seen or spoken to her father since. With her return comes guilt and the knowledge that her mother’s controlling ways kept Gina distanced from her father-on purpose. As Art Micelli nears the end of his life, Gina finds herself heartbroken and in pain for a father who has never stopped loving his only daughter.

Mac Montgomery doesn’t do relationships. With his two brothers married and starting families, Mac knows that his well meaning but meddling father has one final goal to see Mac happily married. Thinking Gina’s return was more of a matchmaking set up than a father/daughter reunion, Mac denies his attraction to Gina with the hopes of pushing away the woman with whom he is falling in love.

The relationship between Mac and Gina is a friends to lovers storyline between two people who have not seen one another for years. As Gina struggles with her father’s impending death, Mac struggles with his attraction and desire. As in the previous storylines, the $ex scenes are implied and fade to black. My only wish is that more of the family history between the Micelli’s and Montgomery’s was revealed. It would have been nice to see the earlier years and the developing friendships.

All of the previous storyline characters play a supporting and secondary role. Lucas and Jason’s wives take Gina under their wings with the knowledge that Mac will come to his senses-one of these days.

STAY WITH ME is an emotional storyline especially the scene where Gina says goodbye to her father, and William Montgomery goodbye to a friend. Keep handy a box of tissues-you are probably going to need it.

MORE OF ME
The Montgomery Brothers 3.5
by Samantha Chase
Genre: adult, contemporary, romance
Re-release: April 21, 2015

REVIEW:  MORE OF ME is the fourth installment and novella in Samantha Chase’s adult, contemporary The Montgomery Brothers romance series. MORE OF ME introduces the Montgomery extended family of cousins and can be found as a bonus story in STAY WITH ME. This is Ryder Montgomery, and wedding planner Casey Peterson’s story. MORE OF ME can be read as a stand alone story without any difficulty.

Told from third person perspective MORE OF ME finds William Montgomery, once again, playing matchmaker but this time it is with his nephew Ryder Montgomery. As Mac and Gina (Stay With Me #3) prepare for their upcoming nuptials, Gina is suddenly called back home on a family emergency. Enter William Montgomery who suggests Ryder check out the wedding venues with Casey Peterson. The twist-Casey is Ryder’s ex girlfriend and they haven’t spoken to one another in a dozen years.

MORE OF ME is a second chance storyline for two people who have never stopped loving one another. Twelve years earlier Ryder left North Carolina for the West Coast where he eventually began work with the Montgomery West Coast offices leaving a heartbroken Casey to pick up the pieces of a destroyed relationship. Fast forward twelve years, where Casey finds herself working with Ryder Montgomery on his cousin’s upcoming wedding-and all of the old feelings and emotions come rushing to the surface.

There is very little angst or anxiety with the reconciliation. Casey and Ryder are now adults who know what it is to love and loss. Ryder has never stopped loving Casey and in this, he continues to apologize for his behavior, years before. The $ex scenes are all implied and fade to black. There is definitely a happily ever after for this couple.

MORE OF ME is a fun and quick read; a romantic story of reconciliation and second chances from the pen of Samantha Chase

ABOUT THE BOOK:

She dares to dream…

Summer Montgomery wants to be taken seriously almost as much as she wants her brother’s best friend, Ethan. But with a long resume of seemingly random career choices and a protective brother on watch, those things are nothing more than pipe dreams…

Does he dare to try?

Ethan Reed would like nothing more than to live by his own rules. Not wanting to disappoint his best friend Zach, or any of the Montgomerys, Ethan’s had to push his long-denied feelings for Summer aside. But it only takes one night away from watchful eyes to make impossible dreams come true..

••••••••••••••

REVIEW: MEANT FOR YOU is the fifth full length installment in Samantha Chase’s contemporary, adult The Montgomery Brothers romance series focusing on the Montgomery family. This is Summer Montgomery, and Montgomery West Coast vice president Ethan Reed’s storyline. MEANT FOR YOU can be read as a stand alone story; many of the previous storyline characters play secondary and supporting roles therefore for cohesion and back story I recommend reading the series in order.

Told from third person point of view, MEANT FOR YOU finds William Montgomery now matchmaking for his extended family of nieces and nephews and in this there are two developing romances on the horizon. The main focus is Summer Montgomery and Ethan Reed. As Ethan and his best friend (and Summer’s brother) Zach Montgomery prepare for a mountain climbing expedition in Denali, Summer finds herself in the unenviable position of trying to convince both men that the climb is much too dangerous. Zach has never completely recovered from a recent broken leg, but he is determined to push himself against everyone’s wishes. When Ethan backs out of the excursion, Zach goes it alone with his team. Disaster will strike bringing the entire Montgomery family together, and with it the realization that the only female sibling is currently involved with the company vice president and Zach’s best friend.

Summer is an enthusiast character whose choices in life have been frowned upon by her immediate family. She is accorded no respect from her siblings and her father, Robert Montgomery, continues to dismiss Summer as though she was nothing more than an annoyance. Summer knows that she will never be offered a place in the family business, but that doesn’t mean she won’t stop trying to be successful at what it is she wants to do.

The relationship between Ethan and Summer is one of friends to lovers; Summer has been in love with her older brother’s best friend since she was a teen but Ethan has made no advances fearing his friendship and position within the company. Circumstances will bring Ethan and Summer together cementing their relationship but in doing so will build a wall between Ethan and the Montgomery family. The Montgomery men are over protective, alpha males who deem it their right to control every aspect of Summer’s life. The $ex scenes are implied and fade to black. There is no graphic language or imagery.

There is a secondary storyline building between Zach Montgomery and Gabrielle Martine. Gabrielle is Zach’s long suffering assistant and Zach treats Gabrielle more like a slave and less than human. The reader watches as Zach continues to break Gabrielle’s heart one order and command at a time. It is time Gabrielle started looking for another job.

MEANT FOR YOU is my favorite Montgomery Brother’s storyline thus far. Samantha Chase’s writing style has matured as well as her character development; there is none of the over-the-top anger and hostility found in the earlier storylines but there are still some emotional outbursts from well meaning Montgomery siblings. MEANT FOR YOU was an enjoyable read with colorful and engaging characters.
