REVIEW: The Heartbreak Mixtapes series comes to an end with the final installment. Never After Us is a found family, single mom, romantic slow burn romance that readers of the author are sure to love. As always, I recommend reading a series in order to get the most out of it, however, each book can be read as a standalone in an interconnected world. For those that have read the series, this is the best one yet!

Mara is a traveling photographer, she spends her days finding just the right picture and home-schooling her young daughter Mila. For five years she has made it her mission to bring joy and love to her daughter after the loss of her husband and Mila’s fathers. She may show her daughter and the outside world a warm, happy face, but inside she is swallowed by guilt, grief and pain. When the girls find themselves with an inheritance with strings attached, they are moving to a strange new place and starting new. What they didn’t expect was their new neighbor, Alec. He is nothing like the Mr. Rogers type, grumpy and somewhat rude, he himself is not thrilled to learn he will have new neighbors. Little did either of them know that life was about to get much more interesting and the connections they would develop would forever change their lives.

Alec Horvath, former drummer to Dead Moth Parade, famous and well known and all around grumpy panda is less than happy when he learns his neighbor has passed and a random family member is moving in with their kid. He likes his peace and his routine, but ever so slowly Mara and Lina break down the walls Alec had built around himself, and then in return he helped heal them from their own grief.

Claudia’s books are always so good with the emotions, they feel so deeply and the characters always leave a lasting impression. As the plot progressive and we get more of each of the leads’ backgrounds, we learn why they are suffering, and just how perfect they are for one another. By being vulnerable, honest and genuine, Alec and Mara slowly wade through the waves of grief and pain and come out the other side. Alec and Lina’s time together really brings such warmth to the story, she has a way of making every interaction a joy, and Alec really needs that in his life. Overall, this was my favorite book of the series, and not just because drummers are awesome. Slow burn romances make for the best reads, there is so much build up of emotions, so much tension, and when it finally breaks…well lets just say you need to read to find out.

REVIEW:Book three in the Heartbreak Mixtapes, Every Shattered Note is a slow burn emotional romance that I think will surprise many readers. As always, I recommend reading a series in order to get the most out of it, while each book can be read as a standalone in an interconnected world, reading in order really enhances the storyline.

Dex and Alyssa come into each other’s lives with nothing but chaos. Dex is a rockstar, one that struggles with the fame and the dual identities that it gives him. He used to live for the music, the rush of the connection of the fans through the music, now the pressure to be more, to do things differently has him questioning more than just his love for music. Alyssa on the other hand has lived her life for others for so long she has lost her way, or more like never found it. As an event planner she spends her time making other people’s dreams come true, but has grown so used to the controlled chaos of her life she can’t remember the last time she had a real connection with another person. That all changes when Dex walks into her life.

Every time I finish one of Claudia’s books, I think this is my favorite book, and then the next release arrives and I’m doubting myself. This author can weave stories and characters like a painter and their masterpiece. Dex and Alyssa’s story is so real, the emotions so raw that you’re left almost empty when the book finishes. As their story progresses from meet cute to the more serious parts, to the humor that they bring out in one another you can’t help but smile. As Dex and Alyssa work through their struggles and come out the other side you can’t help but root for them. The storyline flows well and is easy to keep up with, and as always the spice is just perfect even for a slow burn romance. For fans of this author, Dex and Alyssa are sure to be yet another amazing read.

REVIEW:How I love this author!!

Lost in Overtime is a why-choose, second chance romance that readers are sure to love. With its past friendships, angsty second chances, high spice and loveable characters, Claudia drops another beautiful story for her readers to feast on.

Callaway, Vesper and Alberto spent the summers of their childhoods together, they were best friends, never apart and shared a love that they thought they would always have. When life tears them apart, they are all shattered, but each is meant to find the other again. By chance, years later the three find themselves together again, but the tricky part is sticking together.

Each of our three main leads are so unique, but needing the other is a way that they feel incomplete without the other. Vesper feels like a ghost so often, she’s lived through so much, been dealt such pain but tends to hide behind her humor. Alberto is a character that I just want to care for, coming to us as an orphan, the man has never had a family, not until Callaway and Vesper. He is the guy that hides his feelings, doesn’t show them to many people, but when he does trust, he trusts with his whole being. Callaway as the last member of our trio is the fun, flirty, golden retriever who everyone thinks has it all, but secretly is troubled by things from his past. Each of these characters fit the groove of each other, like a lock finding its key.

Lost in Overtime gives Heat Rivalry but with a why-choose spin on it. The chemistry between the three mc’s is spicy and explosive, even more so between Monty and Callaway. All three have such a deep emotional bond together that the more their friendship and relationship progresses the better people and players they become. When the layers to the story finally start to come to light…well lets just say that these three will do whatever it takes for each other.

Way to go Ms. Author for another great addition to an already great group of books, I can’t wait to see what you have planned for us next.

REVIEW:Lyrics Remain Unchanged is the second installment in the Heartbreak Mixtapes series by Claudia Burgoa. As always I recommend reading the series in order, but each book can be read as a standalone in an interconnected series. LCU is a second chance, why choose romance where the main leads learn to forgive and learn to heal and love again.

Set in the early 2000’s, the story follows Cleo, Eddie and Barret as they strive to fix their broken relationship, learn from the struggles of their past and find a better future for themselves. After rescuing Clio, Eddie and Barret are determined to reunite with her, but it is easier said than done. Clio isn’t the same person, she is distant and cold, keeping her emotions closed off and trusts sparingly. Love and trust are fairy tales to her, but isn’t that normal after the trauma she has suffered? Slowly the men start to break through the walls that she has constructed around her heart, slowly she lets them back in, they give her understanding, compassion, love and respect, things that seemed so foreign to her before. But it’s not just Clio that needs those things, it’s Eddie and Barret as well, these two have a complex relationship and they too must also be honest and open with each other for it to work.

Clio, Eddie and Barret felt like meeting up with friends you haven’t seen in a long time. There is so much that has happened, and you want to know about all of it, all at the same time, but you have to sit back and listen to them tell you what happened. Eddie just wants to fix all the problems, even the ones he has no idea how to fix, and Barret, well he’s Barret. Clio is just doing her best on working through her issues, and the guys truly do make the most out of trying to help her. You can feel their chemistry and passion for one another and that makes the angsty scenes that much better. As always the writer’s style is top notch, Ms. Claudia can write a book that keeps her readers engaged and waiting for the next page and characters that have such depth they feel real. LRU has layers upon layers, drama, heartfelt emotions, spicy moments and moments that have you feeling like you’re going to pull your hair out, but it makes for the best kind of read. Congrats to Ms. Claudia for another fantastic release, I look forward to seeing what comes next.

REVIEW:The first book in what I hope to be a lengthy new series, (Not so) Simple Lyrics is the first installment in the Heartbreak Mixtapes series by Claudia Burgoa. One thing that we know about this author is that her books are always going to give us the BEST stories filled with angst, loss and refound love.

Kit and Roderick grew up together in music royalty, it seemed natural that they too would follow in those same footsteps. It was even more natural that they both fall in love and have a world-wind relationship that fuels their music even more. Unfortunately nothing worked out the way they wanted it to, Roderick breaks Kit’s heart in two and sends them both down a sad, dangerous path for years to come. Now, over a decade later they meet again, but not in the way most would think. Without knowing who one another are, they slowly begin their second chance romance over online chats and sharing their love of music all over again. When the truth comes out though, who each of them is, what they have shared, lets just say that Kit has a few choice words to say.

Ms. Claudia, you are the real music maker sister! The amount of research that this book required alone is amazing, from the songs, to the throw back of the 90’s, all of it was top tier. Kit and Roderick have such a complicated relationship, but one that was founded by their mutual love of all things music. I loved seeing their passion for the art and what they created together. I had a really hard time wrapping my mind around the reason Roderick breaks up with Kit, it really didn’t set well with me, but the plot pushes on and so did I. As their rekindled relationship blossoms, we get snippets of their past together and that was a great way to bring another layer to their relationship. The spice was spicying, the angst was angsting and the ending made me wishing the next one in the series was already out.

REVIEW: Want a fun, holiday read to start the season? Look no further than Fake it til Christmas by Claudia Burgoa.

Soren and Win are as different as oil and water, each with a very different personality. Soren is a grumpy, workaholic, while Win is a carefree, spirited baker, these two have little in common. Except their families. Families that strongly dislike one another, but share a love of guilting them into family get-togethers. When Soren’s sister gets engaged, and his Mother won’t take no for an answer on returning home to celebrate, he finds himself in need of a last minute girlfriend. After a less than dramatic break up with her boyfriend, Win finds herself playing fake girlfriend to Soren Thorn, her hot neighbor/ family enemy number one. What could go wrong?

What a giggle! The banter between Soren and Win is everything. They give off the best grumpy/sunshine vibes. What starts off as a fake relationship slowly builds into something real, Soren and Win build a slow understanding of each other and learn that while their families are important to them, they don’t need their families approval to be happy. Soren was a true delight to read, his gentle grumpy-ness and caring towards Win really made their relationship shine. Win is a girl after my own heart, she is willing to try new things until she finds what she wants to do, and when she does decide she gives it her whole heart. This is very much a slow burn romance, but so worth the build up.

Before We Break Again by the ever talented Claudia Burgoa has finally arrived. This slow burn, hockey, why choose romance will thrill the hockey loving readers and spark their minds. If you’re not into why choose, this book won’t be for you. No major trigger warnings.

Santos, Dustin and Halsey were once scared children clinging to each other, best friends who found love in one another. But as the world likes to remind us, bad things always happen and they are forced apart by their parents. Santos and Dustin are able to remain together, but Halsey is left with no one hole in her heart, but two. Now years later they are together again. Santos now down from a horrible injury, threatening his hockey career turns Dustin who acts as a band-aid, but does all he can to bring Dr. Halsey to assist Santos in the healing process. Dustin too is dealing with his own troubles and isn’t the same carefree boy he once was.

Wow! What a heckin ‘journey this one was. It’s not all gooey love scenes, it’s raw emotion and brutal truth, three people that found each other young and had the world telling them it was wrong. Santos, Dustin and Halsey have been through the ringer, and it’s not done with them yet. After Santos’ injury, and Halsey’s return, there is much to unpack with all three of them and that really gets to the meat of the story. Santos is healing, but Dustin is also dealing with his addiction, not to mention Halsey coming to terms with seeing them both again. There is angst, there is spice, there is drama, there is passion, there is character growth and there is love. I really hope to see more from this world!

REVIEW: The final installment in The Timberbridge Brothers series has arrived, The Last Call Home is the most fitting title for the end of this amazing series. As always, I recommend reading the series in order, each can be read as a standalone in an interconnected series, but reading in order allows you to get the most out of it.

We are welcomed back to Birchwood Springs and the family that we all know and love. In the final installment we FINALLY get Malerick’s story and his love, and he has not one, but two loves. Much like his brothers, Malerick never thought he would be back in his sleepy hometown, but here he is, and the sheriff nonetheless. As the case involving his family and town continues, Mal is hit with a blast from the past, Cassian is back. Sent via the Organization as back-up, Cassian is in town to help solve the mystery threatening the sleepy town and those that live there, but it’s not just the case that’s on his mind.

To add to the already chaotic mix we have Delilah, the owner of the Honey Drop Cafe, the local bakery in town. She and Malerick have a flirty relationship, but no matter how many hints she seems to drop, Malerick doesn’t take the bait, that is until Cassian drops into town. Cassian brings another level of heat to the budding relationship between Malerick and Delilah, but things explode even more when Delilah decides she can’t choose between them and instead wants them both. Both Malerick and Cassian can’t deny the feelings and attraction they feel for Delilah, so eventually they all give into their needs. While their new relationship forms, the guys work together to stop the cartel from destroying their town and their new found happiness.

Dignity Dang! What a way to end a series. The Last Call Home truly has it all, suspense, danger, love and loss, there isn’t a chapter in the book that doesn’t have the reader on the edge of their seat waiting to see what happens next. These three characters bring such life to the story, each giving something different to the relationship that it needs. Malerick with his brooding intensity, Cassian with his sweet over-protection and dominance, and Deliah who brings strength and softness to the pair. I’m sad to see the series end, but wow, what a way to end it.
