ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date July 25, 2023

When someone close to Lilah is murdered in what is clearly an assassination, Lilah finds herself looking to Ghost, one of the deadliest assassins in the world. But is Ghost a friend or an enemy? Lilah’s about to find out. But Ghost isn’t the only one close to Lilah who may well be an enemy. Apparently, the line between friendship and murder, is bloody thin.

REVIEW: THE GHOST ASSASSIN is the ninth instalment in Lisa Renee Jones’s contemporary, adult LILAH LOVE romantic, suspense series focusing on on foul-mouthed, aggressive, contentious and prickly FBI agent Lilah Love-Mendez, and her husband, businessman /Cartel heir Kane Mendez. THE GHOST ASSASSIN should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up after the events of book eight THE PARTY IS OVER. If you have not read the previous instalments, there may be spoilers in my review.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from first person perspective (Lilah), and several chapters from Kane Mendez, THE GHOST ASSASSIN picks up immediately after the events and cliff hanger of book eight in which someone working closely with our story line heroine is dead, an assassin’s bullet meant to send a message to Lilah Love. Throughout the series, Lilah has been looking into an organization known as The Society, a powerful group that controls many of the politicians, law enforcement personnel, and the rich and famous, and it is this group that may or may not be targeting the people at the top. As Lilah and her intrepid group of specialists begin to slowly unravel the clues, Lilah finds herself facing down the person who may be responsible for killing them all.

Meanwhile, Lilah’s husband, and Mexican cartel heir Kane Mendez, finds himself at a crossroads. As the heir apparent, Kane must come to terms with his future going forward but similar to Lilah’s investigation, the people surrounding Kane are dying at the hands of someone in charge.

The world building continues to focus on Lilah Love’s frenzied determination to take down the bad guys but the bad guys are often someone Lilah knows. As Lilah’s investigation takes on a personality of its’ own, Lilah’s home life is sitting on the precipice of a hole from which neither she nor Kane will be able to recover.

Once again, there is a large ensemble of secondary and supporting characters including Lilah’s bodyguard Jay, Kane’s bodyguard Kit; NYPD Chief Houston, interim FBI Director David Ellis ; Lilah’s brother Andrew; hacker Lucas Davenport; forensics tech Jack Cox, medical examiner Danica Day; and Lilah’s IT guru Jeff ‘TicTac’ Landers, most of whom are the hunter/gatherers of Lilah’s investigations. We are introduced to a new team of FBI agents, an assassin who goes by Ghost; and the return of someone long thought buried and gone.

THE GHOST ASSASSIN is a story of secrets and lies, power and control, murder and assassinations, struggles, acceptance, friendships and love. The fast paced premise is intriguing, thought provoking and fascinating, and covers but a couple of days in the life of Lilah Love and her husband Kane Mendez; the characters are determined and dynamic. THE GHOST ASSASSIN ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date January 10, 2023

All dressed up and no one to kill…

Actually there are plenty of people to kill, but I’m trying to show restraint. I have handcuffs. I have a badge. I can arrest the bad guys and not kill them. But with my father trying to become governor, and Kane’s uncle standing in my face, all bets are off. Because let’s just face it, being a bitch isn’t a way of life, at least not for me. It’s a destination I travel when idiots lead me there. And cornering me in a back alley as Kane’s uncle has done, makes him an idiot. And sometimes being a bitch means a girl just has to get stabby

REVIEW: THE PARTY IS OVER is the eighth instalment in Lisa Renee Jones’ contemporary, adult LILAH LOVE romantic suspense series focusing on foul-mouthed, aggressive, contentious and prickly FBI agent Lilah Love-Mendez, and her husband, businessman /Cartel heir Kane Mendez. THE PARTY IS OVER can be read as a stand alone but I recommend reading book seven HAPPY DEATH DAY for back story and cohesion as the events of book seven directly affect the events of the current time line. If you have not read HAPPY DEATH DAY there may be spoilers in my review.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from first person perspective (Lilah), and a final chapter from Kane, THE PARTY IS OVER follows Lilah as she is called to investigate another murder reminiscent of horror movie scenarios labelled Horror Movie Copycats. The most recent murder mimics The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and a serial killer may be targeting the customers at a small coffee shop where Lilah gets her fix. As the violence and bloodshed increase, Lilah finds herself reliving a nightmare that almost cost our heroine her life. As Lilah continues to search through the blood for clues, her husband Kane Mendez heads to Mexico in an effort to stop another threat aimed at our story line heroine.

Meanwhile, Lilah’s father Grant Love’s run for office has made him a target of some very powerful people. As a member of the group known as The Society, the power behind Grant may no longer be under his control.

The secondary and supporting characters include Lilah’s bodyguard Jay, Kane’s bodyguard Kit; NYPD Chief Houston, FBI Directory Murphy ; Lilah’s brother Andrew, their father Grant Love; forensics techs Jack Cox, and Noah James, Lilah’s IT guru Jeff ‘TicTac’ Landers; Kane’s uncle Miguel.

THE PARTY IS OVER covers but twenty-four hours in the life; a story of power and control, betrayal and vengeance, love and acceptance, obsession and murder. The fast paced and thought-provoking premise is captivating and gripping; the characters are enterprising and energetic. THE PARTY IS OVER ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.

“If they didn’t bring the donuts with them, they aren’t welcome.”
“They know you well enough to bring the donuts, Lilah,” he assures me. “It’s better for their safety and sanity.”
He knows me so well. It’s really quite romantic.
I enter the kitchen a few minutes later to find my éclair in Jay’s mouth.
“Are you fucking serious right now?” I demand.
“There are four éclairs,” he argues, his mouth still full.
I join the three of them at the counter and pick one of the three remaining up. “And your point?”
“You can’t eat four,” he declares. “I’ve seen you garbage disposal down two, not three, and definitely not four.”
“You sure do have an attitude lately,” I reply. “And for your information, Kane can garbage disposal down two. Three on a good day, but it won’t be a good day today, now will it?”
Jay’s brown skin turns pasty white. “Fuck.” His gaze rockets to Kane’s. “Man, I’m so sorry.”
“Do I look like an éclair kind of guy to you?” Kane asks dryly.
Jay sets down the donut and holds up his hands. “I can’t win. I don’t want the donut.”
I’m laughing inside but it will ruin the hell out of giving Jay a hard time if I let it bubble past my lips so I hold it in. It’s not easy but I manage. Kit does not. Kit barks out laughter. “Holy fuck, man, when will you not be this naïve?”
Jay glances around the island. “Does that mean I can finish the donut?”
“Maybe you should save it to deflect bullets,” I say, and my cellphone buzzes with a message from Rollins…

REVIEW:BLOODY LOVE is the sixth instalment in Lisa Renee Jones’ contemporary, adult LILAH LOVE romantic, suspense series focusing on FBI agent Lilah Love. BLOODY LOVE should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the events and cliff hanger of book five BLOODY VOWS

NOTE: If you have not read book five, there may be spoilers in my review.

Told from first person perspectives (Lilah Love) BLOODY LOVE picks up immediately after the events of BLOODY VOWS in which Lilah’s fiancé Kane Mendez’ chopper went down in the ocean, and there has been no word as to any survivors. Meanwhile, the investigation into the increasing number of victims who have died under mysterious but similar circumstances continues to reflect on both Kane and Lilah’s personal lives, Lilah and her team begin to dig deeper when a person of interest claims to have information that is pertinent to their case. Demanding immunity, said person takes the team on a ride for their lives.

BLOODY LOVE continues to focus on the dysfunctional family dynamics of Lilah Love’s family, and the build up to her father’s run for higher office. As the political powers set the game into motion, Lilah waits on the side lines for everything to implode.

Lisa Renee Jones pulls the reader into a continuing story of betrayal and power wherein the person with the ultimate control may very well be someone close. The fast paced premise is intriguing, detailed and clever; the characters are powerful, feisty and spirited.

BLOODY VOWS
Lilah Love #5
by Lisa Renee Jones
Release Date: January 26, 2021
Genre: adult, contemporary, romantic suspense

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / B&N / KOBO / Chapters Indigo /

ABOUT THE BOOK: FBI agent Lilah Love leads a complicated life. She’s engaged to Kane Mendez, a man most call dangerous, but hey birds of a feather, do flock together. She’s dangerous, too, and in ways only Kane understands. As for their happily ever after, well that might have to wait. Right now, an old enemy who should be dead is still living, Junior, her mystery letter writer, is stirring up trouble, and her family is trying to prove they’re crazier than her. On top of that she has a new case: a dead woman in a bloody wedding dress. And since Lilah knows all too well there is no such thing as coincidence, clearly someone is sending her yet another message.

••••••

REVIEW:BLOODY VOWS is the fifth instalment in Lisa Renee Jones’ contemporary, adult LILAH LOVE suspense series focusing on the ‘take no prisoners’ and unfiltered FBI agent Lilah Love. BLOODY VOWS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion.

Told from first person point of view (Lilah) BLOODY VOWS follows FBI agent Lilah Love as she is tasked, by her brother Sheriff Andrew Love, to investigate the latest murder, that may or may not be directed at our story line heroine. Throughout the series, the group known as the Society, has been circling our heroine, a group with a selective membership of politically and financially powerful people including Lilah and Andrew’s father, a man about to run for state governor. With the recent takedown of a serial killer intent on murdering our story line heroine, a new but potentially more familiar killer with connections to the Society, is setting the stage to pull Lilah into a thrilling mystery of who, what, why and how. As Lilah begins to uncover the clues to the murder of a pair of sisters linked to a virtual game of power and murder, the disappearance of two people close to our heroine, sets the stage for a cliff hanger.

BLOODY VOWS is another story of power, betrayal, murder and control. Lisa Renee Jones pens another thrilling story of mystery, intrigue, passion and love focusing on a strong, forceful and unconventional FBI agent whose staggering ability to solve crime is matched by the crimes she is trying to solve. The premise is twisted and haunting; the characters are quirky, intelligent and complex. BLOODY VOWS ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.

LOVE KILLS
Lilah Love #4
by Lisa Renee Jones
Release Date: October 22, 2019
Genre: adult, contemporary, romantic suspense

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / B&N / KOBO / Chapters Indigo

ABOUT THE BOOK: They call him Umbrella Man because he makes it rain blood. He wants to play with Lilah Love. What he doesn’t know is that Lilah is a killer too, and games just piss her off.

The conclusion to the second duet in the Lilah Love series. Love Kills concludes where Love Me Dead left off.

••••••••

REVIEW:LOVE KILLS is the fourth instalment in Lisa Renee Jones’ contemporary, adult LILAH LOVE romantic, suspense series, and the conclusion to the second duet that started in LOVE ME DEAD focusing on FBI agent Lilah Love.

NOTE: LOVE KILLS should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the events and cliffhanger of book three LOVE ME DEAD.

Told from first person perspective (Lilah Love) LOVE KILLS follows FBI Agent Lilah Love as she is pulled into the game of a serial killer who is targeting people she knows, she works with, and she loves but Lilah suspects the killer maybe someone she knows, and in this, the members of the group known as the Society, are high on her list of suspects, many of whom have connections to her father, and his run for President. As the number of victims of the ‘umbrella man’ mount, Lilah realizes that everyone is suspect, and the people she thought she could trust, may be the very people hoping to take her down.

LOVE KILLS is a story of obsession, betrayal, murder and revenge; a suspense-filled story of one woman’s impassioned and almost manic need to take down a killer, all by herself. Lisa Renee Jones pulls the reader into another dark, gritty, detailed and graphic story with a foul-mouthed, unfiltered heroine who has the ability to terrify the strongest of men, except the man for whom she is willing to die.

Reviews by Sandy

By the time I’m in the garage at the house, Kane is waiting for me at the door. He studies me with intensity, intensely unreadable. He’s assessing, questioning, but not talking. God love him and his understanding of how I operate.I’m in my head.

I need to stay there right now.

He backs up to allow me to enter the back hallway and I’m quick to do just that. Once we’re both inside the warm house, I strip off my wet boots and he takes my coat before I follow him to the kitchen. I settle onto a barstool in front of the marbled island, while he prepares, and then hands me a hot Bailey’s coffee with whipped cream. Yes, the dark, dangerous Kane Mendez put whipped cream on my coffee. And still, we haven’t spoken a word.

He joins me, claiming the spot next to me while I sip my coffee, the warm, sweet liquid sliding down my throat and helping me come down about two notches.

Ready now, for more than my own mental ping-ponging of thoughts, I grab my phone, thumbing through photos until I find the image of the jar of blood. I set it in front of Kane.

“That was left for me in the refrigerator of the crime scene.”

He glances at it and then me, arching his dark brow. “The victim’s blood?”

“Pig’s blood,” I say matter-of-factly. “That’s not confirmed, but it’s going to be pig’s blood. I know it.”

He doesn’t freak out but then I don’t expect anything but calm, thoughtful contemplation from Kane. He doesn’t even ask why I make that assessment. He simply asks, “Is this Pocher or a Roger protégé?”

Just that easily he’s already in my headspace. And the question spoken at just the right time grounds me in logic rather than the emotion that had me storming out of Emma’s kitchen ready to kill Pocher.

“Logically,” I say, “the dress and the jar could point to either. Of course, my first reaction was Pocher. We just found out he came back. And when I saw that dead woman and then saw the jar of blood, I was ready to kill him.”

“Andrew influenced that. He already believed it was Pocher when he called you to the scene.”

“True. And it could be Pocher.”

“But your gut isn’t reading it that way. I can tell.”

I sip my coffee and add, “With the dress, and without the jar of blood, this would have read like a classic jealousy crime. The groom was already neglecting the bride and she had a side dude. And yet, it wasn’t a crime of rage. We’re not even sure how the woman died.”

“Meaning what?”

“She seemed to have a rupture from her throat, but there was no obvious cut.”

“Poison?” he asks.

“The new medical examiner doesn’t think so.” My cellphone rings with Lucas’s number where it still lays between me and Kane. His jaw clenches.

“I called him to hack for me, and he’s coming to dinner. And before you scowl, he was going to be alone, Kane.”

He downs his coffee, every last drop, and stands up, his spine stiff. Fuck. I answer the call on speaker. It’s better that way, with Kane’s ear where my ears are right now. “Lucas,” I say, and I don’t warn him that Kane is in the room. If he’s not smart enough to figure that out, he deserves whatever he gets. “What do you have for me?”

“I pulled Danica and North’s records. I’m sending them in a secure file by maildrop for you to accept. But there’s nothing exceptional there to see. And before you bitch, I’m digging deeper, but that will take time.”

“What about the victim and the men in her life?”

“Both her dead husband and her fiancé have donated to various Pocher-driven campaigns. That was easy to pull. Her fiancé has actually donated to your father’s campaign. But Lilah, you’d be hard pressed to find anyone in this town who hasn’t pandered to Pocher’s power. And that’s all I have now. I’m drunk. I’m still drinking. No more updates tonight.”

“Yes, but—”

“No,” he says, “and I’m hanging up.” He disconnects.

I grimace and I’d call him back, but I decide better.

Kane at this point has filled a whiskey glass and is leaning on the counter in front of the sink. I stand up and close the space between us. I step directly in front of him and he downs his drink and sets the glass down. His hands are on the counter behind him. He doesn’t even think about touching me and I know it’s about Lucas. Which is exactly why I want him to know that I’m not thinking about Lucas, but rather those donations that connect Emma’s fiancé to my father. And I’m thinking about his words, his declaration that we’re dangerous to the Society. “What if—”

He grabs me and pulls me to him. “If you say that woman died because we’re together, and turn this into another reason to take off my ring, I swear to God, Lilah, I’m done.”

I can be hard. I can be cold. I can apparently be a killer. But I love Kane Mendez. He’s hard, too. He’s cold as ice. He’s forever in control. But he’s not those things with me. And it’s in this moment, for the first time ever, I realize how much I hurt him when I left him. Just how much I cut him.

“I regret every moment we were apart more than you can know. I’m not taking off the ring, Kane.” My hands settle on his chest. “Not ever. I’m not—”

His mouth closes down on mine, his hand on the back of my head, and just that easily, he reminds me I’m human again, capable of wanting, loving, needing, and forgetting all but the moment. But more so, he reminds me that he’s human. He isn’t always in control. He has emotions, torment I can taste on his tongue, even desperation he’d allow no other human to know he’s capable of feeling. I’ve pushed him away. I’ve hurt him. But I’ve always loved him and he doesn’t yet know that I’m done fighting against this, against us.

He just doesn’t know that.

And that’s a problem.

Kane picks me up and I don’t fight him. He has this thing about taking me to his bed, now our bed, as if that establishes some sort of ownership of me and us. Not that I could ever be owned, but deep down, I know we own each other. We always have. We always will. And if that’s what he needs, to feel that ownership, I’m not at war with him. I’m at war with Pocher and the Society. But he doesn’t take me upstairs and to the bedroom. He walks to the living room, neutral territory, and I understand his message. The tide has shifted. The demands have changed. Either I’m in this as his equal or I’m not in this at all. And neither is he.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date July 10, 2018

It’s Lilah Love’s job to inhabit a killer’s mind. The unapologetically tough FBI profiler is very comfortable there. But her latest case is making her head spin. It’s a string of brutal assassinations carried out across the country, each tied to a mysterious tattoo. Body by body, she’s followed the clues all the way back to her hometown. And every step of the way, the killer has been following her.

Here, beneath the glamour of the privileged Hamptons community, is a secret long buried but never forgotten. It’s bigger than Lilah. It’s powerful enough to escape the reach of the FBI. And it’s more personal than anyone can imagine. Because it’s hiding in Lilah’s own past. To fight it, she’s forced to turn to her lethally tempting ex, Kane Mendez. He’s an expert at bringing out Lilah’s darkest impulses. If she plans to survive, she’s going to need them.

REVIEW: MURDER GIRL is the second instalment in Lisa Renee Jones’ contemporary, adult LILAH LOVE romantic suspense series focusing on FBI profiler Lilah Love.

SOME BACKGROUND: A series of murders, all fitting the same MO and assassin style shooting finds our heroine jetting across the country towards the rich and famous, and a past she can’t soon forget. The Hamptons were once our heroine’s pride and joy but murderous demons and the death of her beloved mother forced Lilah away from her family and the man she once loved. Now that her brother is police chief, and her father is schmoozing the political elite, Lilah Love must tread carefully where others refuse to go but in doing so begins to unravel a close connection to everyone she knows. As more bodies begin to pile up, so too do the threatening ‘notes’ that speak of a past, she was hoping to forget.

Told from first person perspective (Lilah Love) MURDER GIRL picks up immediately after the events of book one –Murder Notes- and continues to focus on the hunt for a potential serial killer, that may or may not be connected to Lilah’s past. Two years earlier Lilah, and her then lover, Mexican cartel heir Kane Mendez found themselves embroiled in a dark and dangerous situation that appears to have followed them to present day. As the body count continues to climb, more threatening ‘notes’ addressed to our heroine reveal a personal knowledge about their tainted pasts. As Lilah begins to get closer to the truth, threats from another source find Lilah the prey in a game where she is targeted from a power she is unable to control.

MURDER GIRL is another thrilling roller coaster ride of intrigue, mystery, conspiracy and death. The political elite and law enforcement have been compromised such that our heroine can no longer trust the people with whom she works and loves. The aura of restlessness and the uneasiness of Lilah’s investigation places everyone on edge, the closer she comes to uncovering the truth.

Once again, the romance aspect of the story line is limited as Lilah is focused on the end results. MURDER GIRL is another detailed and complex story line that ventures along many paths, differing angles, clues and secrets that do not want to be revealed. At times, the number of suspects, leads and misinformation was complicated and confusing, in the hopes of misleading the heroine (and the reader) from the ultimate prize. Lisa Renee Jones pulls the reader into a story of betrayal and revenge; assassins and ‘ghosts’; and an organization controlled by the political elite who will stop at nothing to protect their secrets and lies. MURDER GIRL is a dramatic, intense, intriguing and edgy story that will keep you guessing until the end.

I enter the building and ignore the pretty brunette behind the triangle-shaped stone desk and head to the stairs.“Excuse me,” she calls out, but I ignore her. Kane knows I’m coming. He has people watching me and this building. He knows I’m in the building by now. I don’t need “sweet thing” down there to announce me in yet another way. I’m at the top of the stairs before she finishes her fourth excuse me, which is now a bit louder, as if I just haven’t heard her the other three times. I turn down the hallway and walk toward the desk outside Kane’s office where Tabitha sits, minus any more originality today than the last time I was here. She’s still bleached blonde, with her fake, giant-ass boobs hanging out of a silk blouse with numerous buttons undone that turn it into a slut show that could have been professional.

I pass her without a word, approaching Kane’s double doors, when she says, “Drama follows you, Lilah Love.”

“No,” I say without looking at her. “Dead bodies follow me.” I glance over my shoulder at her. “You should remember that.”

And with that statement that really had no purpose other than it felt really damn good, I open Kane’s door.

I step inside Kane’s office and find him sitting behind his desk, just in time to hear him say, “She’s here,” into his intercom and then release the button.

With exaggerated drama that I reserve for moments when I want to be a smart-ass or simply announce my fucking presence, I use my body to shut the door, but I don’t hang out and wait for it to grow roots. I rotate and charge toward Kane and that King Mendez desk of his that he doesn’t get to use as shelter. By the time I round the wooden atrocity, he’s standing, towering over me in a charcoal suit and a purple shirt with black stripes and some sort of black-and-gray tie. It’s flashy, expensive, and works on him when it would not on nine out of ten other people. But then, while I keep a low profile—aside from the door drama, of course—and favor my black nondescript looks, his entire persona says “look at me” with the intended message of “I have nothing to hide.” A lie he tells the world and, after he drugged me to keep me from knowing what happened last night, apparently me.

We stand there for a beat or ten without words before he says, “Lilah,” and the very fact that he says it like sex is all it takes for me to snap.

I slap him in the face, because my bare fist is too small to hurt him the way his jaw would hurt me. It’s also a disgrace to a man to be slapped, which is why one UFC fighter I’ve watched here and there does it to his opponents. And Kane is my opponent. He turns his head with the force of the blow, my palm stinging in the aftermath.

“Well now, beautiful,” he says, fixing me with a brown-eyed stare. “I know you like it rough, but is now the time? We both have questions we want answered.”

I slap him again, and this time he catches my wrist before I pull back. I try to slap him with my free hand, and he catches it as well, this time before contact. “You get two, not three.”

My gaze flicks to the handprint on his right cheek that matches the one on the left before I meet his stare and say, “Two was pretty damn satisfying.”

“Why didn’t you tell me about your stalker?” he demands, his question low, lethal, his anger banked just beneath the surface, while mine is the cherry on top of every lie he’s told me. “Because we both know that’s what we’re dealing with here,” he adds.

“Let go of me, Kane,” I bite out, my voice taut with impatience. No. Make that a desire to smack him again.

“After you tell me about your stalker and the notes.”

“Let go of me, Kane,” I repeat slowly, “or my next move will be a knee to your family jewels. And I promise you, it will be hard enough that neither of us will have to worry about our urge to fuck ever again.” My jaw sets hard, but he doesn’t release me. “You drugged me,” I remind him, “and then searched my house before leaving me with a gun that I was too drugged to use. So if you think I won’t do it—”

He releases me but doesn’t step back. “I didn’t leave you with a gun you couldn’t use. I kept you at my house until sunrise, and I left a team guarding your place, front and back. I protected you, like I always do.”

I don’t analyze why that makes me angrier. That’s for later. For now, there is this: “I’d pull my gun on you and back you off, Kane, but I swore the next time I did that, I’d shoot you. And I need information from you.”

“I’m all yours, beautiful,” he says, holding his hands out. “I always am.” He motions to the sitting area to his left and behind him. “Let’s sit and make this peaceful.”

“Peaceful, my ass,” I say.

As an FBI profiler, it’s Lilah Love’s job to think like a killer. And she is very good at her job. When a series of murders surface—the victims all stripped naked and shot in the head—Lilah’s instincts tell her it’s the work of an assassin, not a serial killer. But when the case takes her back to her hometown in the Hamptons and a mysterious but unmistakable connection to her own life, all her assumptions are shaken to the core.

Thrust into a troubled past she’s tried to shut the door on, Lilah’s back in the town where her father is mayor, her brother is police chief, and she has an intimate history with the local crime lord’s son, Kane Mendez. The two share a devastating secret, and only Kane understands Lilah’s own darkest impulses. As more corpses surface, so does a series of anonymous notes to Lilah, threatening to expose her. Is the killer someone in her own circle? And is she the next target?

“This is getting us nowhere. Go home, Kane!” And I don’t wait for his reply. I start running for the house, my hair and clothes drenched by the time I yank open the sliding glass door and rush inside, but when I turn to shut the door behind me, Kane shoves his way in, sealing us inside. “I said go the fuck home, Kane.”

“Not yet,” he says, shackling my arm and walking into me as he pulls me closer, his hand releasing my arm to move to my spine, the other at the back of my head. “And in case you didn’t get that. Let me speak your language. Not fucking yet.” His mouth closes down on mine, and
he is kissing me, his tongue stroking long against mine. The taste of him is familiar in a way no one else would understand. It’s dirty. It’s sexy. It’s that addictive danger that is Kane Mendez. It’s a man who I do know would have killed for me, and I wanted him to. Oh God. I wanted him to.
