REVIEW: A small-town, second chance romance? Yes please. Melanie Moreland is at her best with the type of novel. Big shot actor, reuniting with the small-town sweetheart he left behind. A Simple Love is the kind of romance you read while sitting at the end of a pier, feet in the water, and sipping on a sweet-tea.
Kassie and Oliver were sweet on each other all through high school, thought the world was their oyster, that is until Oliver took off to the big city with dreams of stardom. This of course breaks poor Kassie’s heart as she is left in their hometown to pick up the pieces. Now Oliver is back to shoot his newest movie, and not only is he back in town, but just happens to be Kassie’s newest tenant, life is about to get a lot more awkward that’s for sure. Kassie makes up her mind to avoid Oliver as much as possible, and she even (tries) to convince herself that she isn’t taking a walk down memory lane. She isn’t getting caught up in Oliver Hart ever again….right?
I am sucker for a good small-town, second chance romance, that being said it has to be the right MC, and Oliver…well Oliver isn’t my favorite. He comes back to town after breaking this girl’s heart, and Kassie here hasn’t even bumped boots with another guy since they have broken up, and good ole Oliver here, well lets just say he has made the rounds. I don’t like the double standards, it made the characters feel cheap. The overall plot of the story is good, and I did enjoy that our leads do actually communicate like grown adults instead of the he said/she said stuff. The setting is lovely, the plot is engaging, but the characters just fell a little flat to me, and this was mostly because of Oliver. I do still recommend reading, it is very enjoyable and there are parts that had me kicking my feet up and smiling, I just wanted more from our MMC.
