About the book: Release Date October 30, 2017

My name is Hunter O’Shea and I have a confession to make…I’ve met a girl who consumes me. I know that makes me sound completely whipped, but Mary “Lamb” Mitts has the power to bring me to my knees…it’s just too bad she hates my guts. But that’s okay, because I hate hers, too. The fiery redhead stirs something in me that I can’t explain.

This temporary insanity could be due to the fact my best friend, who used to be a bigger player than me, is getting married. That must be it. I’m caught up in an Oprah moment.

The only solution is to get back in the game and forget she exists. That theory is great—too bad I don’t want anyone else.

I…just…want…her.

I’m so screwed.

REVIEW: THE HUNT is the third instalment in Monica James’ contemporary, adult HARD LOVE ROMANCE erotic, romance series. This is financial investor Hunter O’Shea, and interior design student Mary Mitts’ story line. THE HUNT can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Mary and Hunter were first introduced in the first two instalments Dirty Dix and Wicked Dix. Mary is Madison’s BFF, and Hunter is Dr. Dixon Mathews best friend.

Told from dual first person points of view (Mary and Hunter) THE HUNT focuses on the contemptuous and anger filled relationship between financial investor Hunter O’Shea, and waitress/interior designer Mary Mitts. Mary and Hunter’s hate-filled, visceral and verbal exchanges masks a heightened sexual energy that is barely contained in one another’s presence. Seeing something beyond the angry façade Dixon Mathews makes a suggestion that places Mary in the direct line of fire as it pertains to the man that she barely tolerates. What ensues is the slow building but acrimonious relationship between our leading couple, and the fall out as betrayal and jealousy destroy what was never meant to be.

THE HUNT is an emotional, intense and heart breaking story line about two people whose sexual histories are as diverse and different as night and day. Hunter is a manwhore whose reputation precedes his introduction to our story line heroine-a reputation that Mary takes to heart. Hunter doesn’t do relationships; has never fallen in love but something about Mary calls to his soul, a soul he believes isn’t worthy of a happily ever after. Mary’s only boyfriend destroyed her faith in men and her trust in love but her attraction Hunter is palpable and confusing knowing he is the last man she should ever hope to fall in love.

The relationship between Mary and Hunter is one of mutual animosity tethered by a mutual attraction that burns hot and electric. Their antagonistic love /hate dual does not go unnoticed by everyone concerned; it makes for some uncomfortable moments as Madison and Dixon’s wedding day approaches. The $ex scenes are erotic, intense and provocative but the lack of trust and miscommunication between our leading couple is frustrating and powerful. My only complaint is the over-use of a certain four-letter word that I do not find conducive or necessary in a romance story line.

We are re-introduced to Dr. Dixon Mathews and his fiancé Madison (Dirty Dix / Wicked Dix), as well as their mutual friendship with Finch and Heidi. The introduction of fellow investor Aaron Gail, and his PA Keira Celly adds the requisite evil that heightens the betrayal and jealousy between our leading couple.

THE HUNT is a story about one woman unable to let go of the past; and one man’s inability to let go of his heart. The premise is engaging, edgy and intense; the characters are edgy, spirited and flawed; the romance is emotional, dramatic and passionate. My only complaint- the language is graphic and course including the use of a certain four-letter word as I mentioned above.

Something is happening and I have no idea what. Mary’s eyes drop to my lips before she uneasily licks hers. Her flushed cheeks, dilated pupils, and heavy breathing all point to one thing—but that’s not possible. This woman hates me, all delicious, lithe five-foot-four of her wants me dead.
So why is she not slapping my cheeks and calling me a dirty manwhore when I inch closer to her lips? And why am I not slamming on the brakes because I don’t kiss—ever, but that rule seems to be obsolete when the supplest pair of lips are a hairs breadth away?
I’m rolling in her perfume. Slathering it all over my body and inhaling it like a new drug. She is all goddess, and if I don’t touch her, I’m going to explode.
Placing my palm to her cheek, we both moan at the contact, and when she parts those lips, I’m as good as gone. “Hunter, wh-what are you doing?”
My name has never sounded sweeter. “Shortcake, I don’t know…you tell me.” The ball is in her court. I’m liquefying and my brain turned to mush about fifteen minutes ago, so I’m in no state to be the one calling the shots.
“I…I…” she fumbles, never breaking eye contact.
“You what?” I ask, tugging at the lobe of her ear, before tracing my pointer down her throat. Her pulse is hammering, a sure sign she’s about to either surrender, or flee.
“I…oh god,” she whimpers, biting her lip when I work my finger back up and paint over her jawline in a slow sweep.
“You have three seconds…three seconds to stop me before I part those lips with my tongue, and I won’t be gentle about it.”

Description:
When bounty hunter Liam Quinn discovered that Claire Connolly was a Sensitive and infected with magic, he should have turned her in to be locked up in the prison district known as Devil’s Isle. Instead, he helped her learn to control her power and introduced her to an underground group of Paranormals and humans who know the truth about the war and those who fought it.
Now the weight of Liam’s own secrets has forced him into hiding. When a government agent is killed and Claire discovers that Liam is the prime suspect, she races to find him before the government can. But she’ll discover proving his innocence is no simple matter. Their enemies are drawing closer, and time is running out….

Review:

The Hunt by Chloe Neill is the 3rd book in her Devil’s Isle urban fantasy series.  For a brief refresher:  The story takes place in a war ravished New Orleans, where paranormals or those with magic are delegated to live in Devil’s Isle.  Claire Connolly, our heroine, has hidden most of her life that she is a sensitive, with some magic, which would send her to Devil’s Isles.  Liam Quinn, a Bounty Hunter, is our hero, and the one who helps Claire learn to control her magic, as well as showing her how to be a Bounty Hunter.  In the last book, with a cult leader trying to destroy all paranormals, Liam’s secret is revealed when they manage to destroy the enemy.  With his body infused with magic, Liam goes into hiding.

The Hunt begins with Claire, Gavin, and Malachi leaving New Orleans to travel through the bayous to find Liam, who is now wanted for murder of a government agent.  When they all return to New Orleans, Liam will try to discover who is trying to frame him, and in a short time the group will find a conspiracy that brings things close to home for Claire.  A conspiracy that will restart the war of paranormals and humans, which has been under control due to the Veil that stops the paranormals from entering their realm.  Note:  These are powerful and violent paranormals, who want to destroy humans.  The Devil’s Isle paranormals are mostly non-violent and live freely but only in the territory they are assigned.

Claire will learn about her dead mother, whom she never knew and about a horrifying plot that will kill paranormals, and open the Veil once again.  The romance between Liam and Claire took a backseat, as Liam could not handle his magic overload. When things begin to happen bringing them to fight together, Liam and Claire’s love will shine through.  I also love many of the secondary characters that Neill has created; Gavin, Moses, Gunnar, Eleanor, etc.

What follows is an action packed intense story in a post-apocalyptic world. At times, early on I did think that things did drag a bit, but the last half was very exciting with lots of action.  I love Claire, who was a great heroine; strong, loyal, fearless & caring of her friends.   As we race to the finish, there are a few twists and turns that leaves us holding our breath and anxiously waiting the next book in this series. If you enjoy fantasy in an apocalyptic world, you should read this series and start with the first book, The Veil.

THE HUNT (The V.V.Inn #2) by C.J.Ellisson

THE HUNT (The V.V.Inn #2) by C.J. Ellisson

THE HUNT (Vampire Vacation #2) by C.J.Ellisson

NOTE: Series contains mature adult content

THE HUNT is the second novel in C.J.Ellisson’s Vampire Vacation series featuring the sexy ancient vampire Alexandria “Vivian” and her family of vampires and werewolves. The Hunt begins approximately 2 months following their last adventure at the V.V INN in Vampire Vacation, and focuses on an organized and pre-arranged hunt for a rogue vampire. The content is graphic and not intended for readers under 18.

Following the successful eradication and death of an ancient vampire hoping to destroy Vivian, the mistress of the V.V INN plans to invite all the participants back for a hunt. Approaching the Tribunal for a willing candidate isn’t high on her list of desired duties, but a willing candidate is the only way to get a hunt sanctioned by the ancients. There is one problem-Vivian has angered many of the Tribunal ancients and someone wants her dead. Inviting vampires from the many Seethes and werewolves from Romeo’s pack should bring enough hunters to make the week interesting, but one of her fiercest enemies will be escorting the prey to Alaska.

C.J. brings back all of the new and existing family members from Vivian’s new seethe and each character narrates several different chapters from their own POV. An interesting feature to story telling, chapters with varying points of view allow the readers to see the story at different levels and thought processes. Many of Vivian’s family members will narrate and reveal the depth of their love for their Mistress, and like most supernatural beings, the depth of their love has no boundaries. Vivian is a sexual being with the ability to manipulate reality, but the reality of her sexuality has more than one male vying for her attention at all times. But her love for her husband Rafe never falters, although she is tempted to stray through the shear magnitude of the presence of the lone werewolf who wants her for his mate.

Emiko is the rogue vampire brought in for the hunt. Charged with crimes against vampires and thus the Tribunal, Emiko is a highly skilled assassin and a former enforcer. Opting for a hunt rather than imprisoned in silver chains, Emiko will take the predators on a hunt like never before. And along the way, a second vampire will go rogue and more deaths will follow including 3 of the hunters who had come to play. But in the end, a new vampire will make his first kill and a surprising ability will manifest from inside.

THE HUNT is a great addition to C.J.’s V.V Inn series. The storyline is full of action and there is rarely any down time to catch your breath. Rafe and Vivian’s relationship will have a couple of awkward moments, but in the end a bond created by love will prevail. Vivian’s power emerges full strength and the family unit will become acquainted with their Mistresses’ ability first hand. And we have not heard the last from the Tribunal. But it is her loss of control and anger at a young vampire that I found a little disconcerting. CJ’s writing style seems effortless as the story develops and the sensuality of the characters leaves you wanting more. Looking forward to reading BIG GAME.
