ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date October 11, 2014

Once a proud angel of Heaven, Nevar is now a servant of Hell, bound to a new master—the King of Demons. Consumed by darkness and driven to seek revenge, he set in motion a series of events that awakened the Great Destroyer, a force that will bring about the apocalypse. Now, he is the creature’s master and the fate of our world rests in the hands of an angel with only darkness in his heart.

Lost in the mortal realm without any recollection of how she came to be there, Lysia is only aware that she has survived a great battle. When she stumbles into a demon bar, she finds more than a chance to discover what happened to her—she finds a dark and deadly angel warrior who stirs fire in her veins and awakens soul-searing passion she cannot deny.

With the mounting threat of the Great Destroyer, the forces of Heaven and Hell against him, and a band of dangerous angels intent on capturing Lysia on his heels, can Nevar protect the beautiful woman who is light to his darkness and find the strength to save the world?

••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: HER AVENGING ANGEL is the seventh installment in Felicity Heaton’s adult, paranormal/fantasy Her Angel romance series focusing on the angels, fallen angels and demons from Heaven and Hell. This is former angel, and servant of Hell Nevar and Lysia’s storyline. Told from third person point of view, Her Avenging Angel can be read as a stand alone but for cohesion and detail it would be best to read the series in order. Felicity Heaton does an amazing job revealing background detail and information about the series and our hero, throughout Her Avenging Angel.

The focus of the story is on former angel Nevar who has been assigned as the guardian and Master of the Great Destroyer. When Nevar escapes to the human realm in search of food, he will meet a demon-a woman known only as Lysia-who calls to his soul. She is lost, without memory of who she is or from where she came. When Nevar is pulled back into Hell by his demon master Asmodeus he will discover the Great Destroyer has risen. Along with Asmodeus, and Alysia, Nevar goes in search of the beast thought to bring about the next apocalypse.

There is an immediate attraction between Lysia and Nevar, one brought about but a common language and need for blood. Nevar is protective of Lysia and guards her with his life, not quite understanding the pull towards the small but powerful female demon. It is only when four of Heaven’s most powerful angels demand Lysia’s imprisonment does Nevar realize whom it is that calls to his heart.

The world building continues as the search for the Great Destroyer continues throughout the series as well as the battles between Heaven and Hell; demons and angels. There is a reason that Hell is so filled with fallen Angels as the disposition and temperaments between good and evil are not dissimilar. The secondary characters include many of the previous storyline couples who come to Nevar’s aid. Nevar believed that when the dark side claimed his soul, he lost the love and friendship of all of his former friends and angels. With the inclusion of the previous storyline characters there is familiarity, cohesion and comaraderie to the flow of the story.

HER ANGEL series by Felicity Heaton takes an intimate look at Heaven and Hell; where angels fall in love with demons; where demons are tamed by emotions and love. Each of the storylines focuses on the impending war between good and evil, searching for a way to prevent the end -an apocalypse of epic proportion. There is action, suspense, mystery, romance and love. Each couple is matched together; their powers compliment one another; and in the end, love does conquer all.

Felicity Heaton blends mythology with Heaven’s fallen angels and Hell’s demonic possessions. But when the dark finds the light; when soul mates collide there is little to stop the impending crush of emotions and love. HER ANGEL series is passionate, breathtaking, imaginative and compelling. Everyone has a dark side-some more dark than others.

It had been twenty-seven days, give or take a few, since Nevar’s master had bothered to show up for his duty and relieve him, taking his place outside the crystal chamber in which the Great Destroyer slumbered, deep in the bowels of the Devil’s fortress in Hell.

A destroyer that Nevar had awoken by spilling Asmodeus’s and Liora’s blood in the very chamber he now guarded, and had become the creature’s master, much to the annoyance of the Devil.

Twenty-seven days of mind-numbing silence and boredom.

Nevar was going out of his head.

Or at least more out of it than normal.

He was feeling honest enough with himself today to admit that he might have been out of his head before the guard duty had started, but doing such a thing was dangerous.

The darkness within him spread tendrils outwards, filling his mind with vicious hissed words that goaded him into finding Asmodeus, the wretched angel who had turned him into a monster, and satisfying his soul-deep hunger to make the bastard pay.

Nevar closed his eyes and practiced his breathing, filling his lungs from the bottom up and counting slowly to five on each long inhale through his nose and five again on each exhale out of his mouth. Liora had taught him it as a method of regaining control of himself and quashing his darker urges whenever they came upon him. It had been step one in his rehabilitation programme—taking control. He was still working on step two—taking responsibility.

He drew another deep breath and shut out the coaxing voice and the other one that liked to mock him.

Once a proud guardian angel serving Heaven and the protector of Erin.

Now a loathsome creature forced into a contract with an evil angel, filled with darkness and an endless unstoppable hunger for violence, and cursed with an unquenchable thirst for blood.

Euphoria addict.

Recovering alcoholic.

Whore.

Bastard.

The worst part was that he couldn’t even bring himself to lay the blame squarely on Asmodeus’s shoulders. Some of it kept slipping off and landing back on his. He had been the one who had sought the sorceress and asked her to inscribe the spell on his shoulders that gave him control over his wings, and more control over his own body, making it difficult for Asmodeus to command him and force his compliance.

He had been the one to repay that sorceress by fulfilling the dark urge to kill her.

And she had repaid him by cursing him with her dying breath to feel an overpowering, never-ending craving for blood.

He had been the one who had sought a way of escaping the haunting memories of all the mortals and angels he had brutally slain whenever the darkness growing within him had seized control.

That escape had come in the form of sweet oblivion, delivered to him by Euphoria, a potent cocktail of alcohol, demon toxin and blood designed with enslaving mortals in mind and giving them a high that would make them forget every wicked thing they did while temporarily under its influence.

Demon toxin was fatal to angels.

When it had only made him high, giving him the beautiful escape he had craved and couldn’t find in alcohol alone, he had realised that he was no longer an angel.

And he had thrown himself head first into a downward spiral of Euphoria, screwing every demon female who offered it to him in exchange for sex. In hurling himself into that addiction, he had blurred the line between the evil and the good within him. He had embraced the darkness and bore the evidence of it on his body in the form of permanent claws and black skin up to his elbows and his knees, a sliver of his other side shining through.

Oh how the mighty had fallen.

He hadn’t quite hit rock bottom at that point though. No. He had stepped a little closer to rock bottom when Veiron, a Hell’s angel now married to Nevar’s former ward, Erin, had found him in a grotty bathroom banging a demon in exchange for a fix, and had taken it upon himself to save him. When Nevar had found himself pinned to the floor of that bathroom, in a pool of the demon bitch’s blood, he hadn’t been able to stop himself from licking it off the grimy tiles.

He had finally hit rock bottom when he had decided to discover Asmodeus’s weakness and exploit it, and had abducted the woman his master had been falling in love with, Liora, and handed the witch over to the Devil. No questions asked.

And then when Asmodeus had been about to save her from the very chamber at Nevar’s back, he had snuck in like a shadow and tried to kill the bastard.

Liora had attempted to shield Asmodeus. Nevar had skewered both of them on the sword.

Their combined blood spilling in the chamber and soaking into the crystal had been the key to unlocking the prison of the Great Destroyer, and because his hand had spilled it, Nevar was now the creature’s master.

He sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose.

Liora would be proud of him.

Seven months of rehab and he had finally admitted that Asmodeus had started the ball rolling when he had forced a contract between them, but Nevar had kept on pushing the damn thing until it had picked up enough speed to do some real damage.

Damage being a nice way of saying that he had probably brought about the end of the world.

Nevar tipped his head back and stared into the darkness. Golden light from the two torches on the wall behind him, one either side of the broad door, held by gilded dragon bones, flickered across the ceiling. How many times had he lost himself in following the shifting ribbons of light? It was up there with his other favourite form of entertainment.

He turned around to face the huge black stone door.

His jade gaze slowly took in every inch of the carved surface that was now imprinted on his memory. It depicted dragons roaming the landscape of Hell in the upper portion of the door and a monster far larger than they were ravaging lands in the central section. That gigantic beast devoured mortal, demon and angel alike.

He ran his fingers over the beast to the figure of an angel being crushed under its front left foot and then drifted them back up to the other figure it clutched in the claws of its right.

The Great Destroyer.

He wasn’t sure what would happen when it finally rose from its slumber, or what his role was when it emerged, but he was sure it would be a hell of a lot more interesting than his current situation.

Would it be such a bad thing if it awakened?

The thought of standing guard in the cramped black antechamber for decades, centuries or more was an unwelcome one. He would rather the world went to Hell now than he be put through another month of loitering outside the chamber, alone and bored.

And tired.

Unlike his master, Hell wasn’t his home, and when an angel wasn’t in their natural environment, they had to eat and sleep.

Asmodeus never seemed to take that into account, or perhaps he did. Perhaps his wretched master was in his fortress halfway across Hell laughing about the fact that he was here starving to death and about ready to gnaw his arm off. Nevar resisted the urge to sink his fangs into his lower lip. It wouldn’t appease his hunger or do him any good. He couldn’t survive on his own blood. He had been living for the past seven months on regular doses of Asmodeus’s blood.

Saliva pooled in his mouth at just the thought of sinking his fangs into his master’s arm and sucking down his rich, thick blood.

Wonderful. Asmodeus and Liora’s fantastic rehab plan had now turned him into some sort of Pavlov’s dog, salivating at only the idea of being allowed to drink from his master.

He sighed again and traced his fingers down the ridged back of the beast carved on the door.

Maybe there was a reason Asmodeus had left him here alone for almost a full month.

Liora had told Nevar that now he had been weaned off demon blood, the next step was to wean him off blood entirely.

It would be typical of the bastard angel to decide the best way to do that was to ditch him here at the chamber and leave him for a month, knowing he was under orders not to leave it unguarded.

Did Liora know what her male was doing? He doubted the pretty little witch would approve of such a move.

Whenever Nevar had been at their fortress, watching her and Asmodeus attempting to rebuild it, she had stuffed him full of mortal food, telling him that he needed to keep his strength up. Of course, Asmodeus glared at him whenever the witch fussed over him, and Nevar had repaid him by drinking up her attention and coaxing her into giving him more of it, stealing it away from Asmodeus.

The mark on his chest pulsed, fire flashing over it, and his fingers tensed against the hindquarters of the beast on the door.

He growled and mentally commanded the breastplate and back plate of his violet-edged black armour to disappear, revealing his bare chest. Purple light traced over the circular mark directly over his heart. The size of his palm, it depicted a serpentine beast with a reptilian head armed with sharp fangs and six curved horns. Wings followed the sweeping arc of its scaly body and its barbed tail. In the centre of the mark, clutched in the dragon’s claws, was a perfect replica of Liora’s pentagram—the one he had destroyed.

The dragon’s wings shifted and he ground his teeth against the fiery pain that blazed like lightning across his pectorals in response. He pressed his hand to the mark, breathing through the agony, using the same technique he employed when trying to retain control.

The beast settled and his heart settled with it, slowing back to a normal rhythm.

It wasn’t the first time the mark had shifted. It moved from time to time, as if it was as restless as he was.

Nevar kept his hand over the mark and placed his other one on the carving on the door that was a perfect match. The Great Destroyer.

Would it be such a bad thing if it awakened?

He could fight it or control it or something as its master.

It would beat the hell out of guard duty.

But he, too, hides a scandalous secret… and if it’s discovered it could rip them apart

Review:

THE IRRESISTIBLE MISS PEPPIWELL by Stacy Reid is a Historical novel with a present day slant. This novel might take place in Victorian England times but the characters have a decidedly modern feel to them. Phillipa Pippiwell is known as the “Ice Maiden” by the haute monde. She is cold and distant with everyone, but draws the attention of Lord Anthony Thornton. We have the “Ice Maiden” and the “Bastard”! Wait, Lord Anthony really is a bastard! He recently found out that he is the illegitimate son of a Duke. The late Duke didn’t want him or his younger sister to inherit any of his money, so he wrote the secret down and that juicy gossip is just waiting to be revealed! All of our characters have secrets and more secrets!

Lord Anthony attempts to draw out the aloof beauty and thaw her out! She had an “unfortunate event” in the States (code word for sexual scandal) and just wants her freedom now to have some adventures. Well, Lord Anthony wants to have some sexual adventures with Phillipa and he likes his sex dirty and a tad rough! That’s what I mean about modern day sensibilities. Many rules of society are broken and scandals revealed in this novel. Will Lord Anthony be able to lure Phillipa to his dark side and is marriage part of the deal? You will have to read it for yourselves! Some secrets are revealed by a dastardly villain and some surprises are told concerning some secondary characters! I feel a sequel coming!

This novel is for you Historical romance buffs who like reading about the “ton” but who doesn’t mind when societal rules are broken. This is a very hot novel with some engaging and multi-dimensional characters. I highly recommend it!

About the book: Release Date October 7, 2014

A sizzling story of a woman who risks her life and her heart to find a wealthy man’s missing sister—the first novel in a sexy new romantic suspense series from #1 New York Times bestselling author Maya Banks

When Caleb Devereaux’s younger sister is kidnapped, this scion of a powerful and wealthy family turns to an unlikely source for help: a beautiful and sensitive woman with a gift for finding answers others cannot.

While Ramie can connect to victims and locate them by feeling their pain, her ability comes with a price. Every time she uses it, it costs her a piece of herself. Helping the infuriatingly attractive and impatient Caleb successfully find his sister nearly destroys her. Even though his sexual intensity draws her like a magnet, she needs to get as far away from him as she can.

Deeply remorseful for the pain he’s caused, Caleb is determined to make things right. But just when he thinks Ramie’s vanished forever, she reappears. She’s in trouble and she needs his help. Now, Caleb will risk everything to protect her—including his heart. . . .

Review:

Keep Me Safe begins with Caleb finding Ramie in order to find his sister, and he’ll stop at nothing to make that a reality. Ramie is known for her psychic powers and her almost perfect record in locating abductees. Ramie had gone off grid in order to try and save herself from the devastation that using her “gift” causes her. However, Caleb can’t understand how someone could be so selfish as to not WANT to help victims of senseless crimes. Until he sees with his own eyes what happens when Ramie connects with a victim. Stunned, almost beyond belief, Caleb immediately knows that he crossed a line in tracking Ramie down, but, God help him, he’d do it again to help his sister. Once Ramie tells him what he needs to know, she tells him to leave and he reluctantly does so. He tells her he’ll be back, but by the time he goes back to the desolate cabin in Colorado, there is no sign of Ramie……..

A year passes and Caleb still cannot get the sight of Ramie out of his mind. He and his brothers have tried everything to try and find her, but to no avail. Until one night when a desperate Ramie reaches out to the only person she can think of that has enough resources that may actually be able to save her from a psychopath that has hunted and taunted her for a very long time. Caleb Devereaux. Once Caleb finds out where she is, he immediately leaps into action and brings her to his home, which puts the security at Fort Knox to shame. The once thing that Caleb hadn’t counted on? The psychopath is a very strong psychic that has the power to endanger everyone around Caleb and Ramie. And, endanger he does. Ramie fights Caleb along the way, not wanting to endanger his family, but Caleb will not have it. He wouldn’t have his sister back if not for Ramie, and he literally moves heaven and earth to protect those he considers his. And, yep, he considers Ramie his………

Keep Me Safe is not your usual romance novel. There are parts that are very dark, and even a little hard to read in places. The suspense is ramped up and the twists and turns keep you on the edge of your seat. Is there instant infatuation on both the main characters’ parts? Yes. Is there an alpha male who will do anything to keep everyone safe? Yes. Is it a hell of a read? Abso-freaking-lutely!!!! I loved this book!! The mystery, suspense and paranormal aspects of the story were so much fun. Now, with that said, parts of it were not “fun”, but did add a level to the story that made it something more than Maya’s usual fair. I know that it won’t be for everyone, but, for me, it is one of my favorite Banks novels. Well done, Maya Banks, very very very well done!!

The French executioner

It is 1536 and the expert swordsman Jean Rombaud has been brought over from France by Henry VIII to behead his wife, Anne Boleyn. But on the eve of her execution Rombaud swears a vow to the ill-fated queen – to bury her six-fingered hand, symbol of her rumoured witchery, at a sacred crossroads. Yet in a Europe ravaged by religious war, the hand of this infamous Protestant icon is so powerful a relic that many will kill for it… From a battle between slave galleys to a Black Mass in a dungeon, through the hallucinations of St Anthony’s Fire to the fortress of an apocalyptic Messiah, Jean seeks to honour his vow.

REVIEW

4 out of 5 for this reader folks!

WELL …. that was quite different from what I expected and what I have ever read before. When I read the synopsis I figured out that this was not going to be a traditional “Tudor” historical fiction, but I still wasn’t expecting such a far fetched, rich, magical adventure that I discovered. This isn’t a negative remark in any sense as many love the art of fantasy fiction and it is brilliant to take such a well known chunk of history (Queen Anne and her beheading) and then not just focus on that, but focus on another one of her body parts and the man that removed it (as well as her head).

“The French Executioner” by C.C. Humphreys is about Jean Rombaud who was the french man with the expert sword that ending the famous Queen’s life. Before the task was completed, Anne made Jean promise to take her six fingered hand and bury it at a certain place at a certain time as it’s now a relic. Once the beheading is complete, Jean begins his journey by having the relic stolen from underneath him. Now facing the task of recovery and full filling a promise, Jean takes us on quite the adventure. We are taken to place after place, experience fight after fight and understand why Jean is so motivated to make this vow a reality. He comes from such sad circumstances and you get the sense that if he can keep this promise he has redeemed himself some what.

Will not share any more than that about the story. While I may have thought I was going to get another historical fiction of the Tudor dynasty, I was pleasantly surprised that instead, I indulged in a medieval fantasy plot. I mean who has ever read anything about the man that beheaded the infamous Queen of England? Who has ever heard or thought to write about her six fingered hand and then make it a relic? SO UNIQUE!

I will say it did take me a little bit to get into this book. I did think to myself a few times “Pick it up all ready!”, but once the picking up happened, I was committed to the read. I do prefer my Tudor historical fiction on the more traditional side, but reading this book was like a breath of fresh air that left me wondering/anticipating where/what I was about to experience.

If you enjoy anything Tudor, you should give this book a try.

HAPPY READING! 🙂

Penguin Random House is thrilled to partner once again this year with BCRF, as 91 cents of every dollar spent by BCRF is directed towards breast cancer research and awareness programs.

The $25,000 donation that Penguin Random House contributes, regardless of sales, provides vital funds to support the mission of BCRF.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Penguin Random House’s Read Pink® editions, we are featuring a few participating authors and what Read Pink® means to them…

“Every life lost to breast cancer leaves behind a hole that can never be filled again: a wife, a mother, a sister, a friend, an aunt, a grandmother. I’m so grateful for organizations like The Breast Cancer Research Foundation for their efforts to find a cure for this devastating disease, and honored to support breast cancer awareness, detection, and research through Penguin’s READ PINK program in 2014. With your help, we can move closer to the day when breast cancer leaves behind only survivors.”

“Since 1989, death rates from breast cancer have been decreasing due to earlier detection and improved treatment because of the efforts of organizations like The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Books have always been an important part of my life, and I am honored that my book will be part of Penguin’s Read Pink program that supports breast cancer awareness and research through reading. It is my greatest hope that through efforts like this we might find a cure within my lifetime.”

“I am so delighted to be included in the Read Pink campaign again this year with Perfect Timing being featured, along with so many other great books, to raise funds for breast cancer research. I can remember when a diagnosis of breast cancer was often equivalent to a death sentence. Nowadays, the survival rates have increased greatly, and I personally know women who have prevailed over this terrible disease. Sadly, I’ve also known a few women who lost the battle. So I call upon all of you to join ranks with me and countless other women in a war to defeat breast cancer. ‘Read Pink! Buy books bearing the Read Pink logo as gifts for the women you love.’ By standing together as sisters, we have it within our power to make

a huge difference!”

“This is the time of year when we celebrate the progress that has been made in the battle against breast cancer and acknowledge the work that lies ahead. No, we aren’t there yet. There’s a long way to go. The greatest weapon we have to fight this disease is research and research costs money. That is why this breast cancer awareness campaign is so important and why I am proud to participate.”

I Want To Hold Your Hand 2Marie Force, I Want to Hold Your Hand
“I’m so thrilled to be part of the Read Pink effort to help raise awareness and funding for breast cancer research. I hear frequently from romance readers who tell me my books and those of other romance authors have helped them get through breast cancer treatment. I want to hear from fewer of them in the future. I want to hear they took our books on fabulous vacations rather than treatments. Please Read Pink in October to support all the courageous women fighting this disease and to fund critical research. Thank you for Reading Pink!”

Immortal

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk/ Barnes and Noble / KOBO / The Book Depository

About the book:

This is a world where sin and salvation collide. This is a world where a cynical fallen angel struggles with the seven deadly sins and seven chosen souls. With the spellbinding Immortal, the riveting series that “changed the face of paranormal romance” (Suit101.com) comes to an epic close as mankind’s reluctant savior struggles with his greatest challenge yet…

Review:

Immortal begins where the previous book left off.  Jim, the savior, has given up one of his wins to Devina, which gave her the lead by one.  Which means there are two souls left in play and Jim has to win the next two, or the evil Devina will literally rain hell down on earth.  Jim and Adrian, along with Sissy’s help, embark on their final journey together to try and right the wrongs wrought by Devina.  There is so much going on in this book that it makes it hard to even give a synopsis without giving away too much.  They are dealing with Nigel’s death which makes it even more difficult, as he was the “head” angel in heaven and the leader of Jim’s team.  They are still dealing with Eddie’s death, as well as trying to figure out who the next souls in play will be.  But, once they start figuring out whose souls have been placed in play by the Creator, things get to rolling. Fast.  And, yep, I didn’t see it coming.  Let’s just say they didn’t have to look far……..

J.R. Ward wrote a very good conclusion to her Fallen Angels series.  (I can’t believe it’s over!!)  There is angst, lots of despair and ultimate redemption that will keep you twisting in your seat.  Jim is the ultimate hero, not only fighting evil in the world, but fighting the demons within himself.  And, I don’t even know where to start with Devina.  She is one of the best anti-heroes I’ve ever read.  She is the ultimate evil, who has temper tantrums like a moody teenager which makes her so much fun to read.  Jim’s sidekicks, Adrian and Eddie, are AWESOME.  Sissy, who ends up being the heroine of the series, grew into her own throughout the book, and even though I didn’t think she was quite right for Jim, the fact that they end up together and in a wonderful place, brought a tear to my eye…..or 100…….or more……

The only thing that has curbed my sadness at this series being over is the fact that Ward has said that Devina, Adrian and Eddie will crossover at some point into the Black Dagger Brotherhood series.  And, I could not be happier about that.  They will be a fabulous addition to an already freaking awesome series.  Well done, J.R. Ward, very very well done.

A Highland Wolf Christmas by Terry Spear-a review

A HIGHLAND WOLF CHRISTMAS (Heart of the Wolf #15) by Terry Spear-a review

A Highland Wolf christmas fall 14

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk/ Barnes and Noble / KOBO / The Book Depository

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date October 7, 2014

Financial advisor Guthrie MacNeill isn’t a complete Scrooge—he just hates the enormous cost associated with the Christmas holiday season. Needless to say, when his pack hires a party planner to decorate the castle, he’s at his wit’s end. Until Calla Stewart arrives on the scene with her mistletoe in hand.

Calla has never had a client as difficult as Guthrie, but she’s determined to give the pack a Christmas season they will never forget—no matter how much it costs. But when her ex-fiancé begins stalking her and threatening her safety, Guthrie decides to loosen his grip on the purse strings and let out his inner Highland warrior wolf to protect her.

••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: A HIGHLAND WOLF CHRISTMAS is the fifteenth installment in Terry Spear’s contemporary, adult Heart of the Wolf paranormal romance series focusing on the shifter wolves of the Scottish Highlands. This is event planner Calla Stewart and financial advisor Guthrie MacNeill’s storyline, one that began in book fourteen –Hero of a Highland Wolf- where Calla ‘stole’ Guthrie’s boxer shorts and ran them up the flagpole. A HIGHLAND WOLF CHRISTMAS can be read as a stand alone storyline. Many of the previous storyline characters play secondary roles but any important information is revealed when and where necessary.

Told from third person point of view, the storyline focuses on the upcoming Christmas celebration. As the MacNeill Clan make preparations for the holidays, they bring in their friend and events coordinator Calla Stewart whose personal life is spiraling out of control. Having called off her wedding and mating to Baird McKinley, Calla finds herself being stalked by the very man from whom she left standing at the altar. Enter Guthrie MacNeill-the wolf who would steal her heart and become her mate-if only they survive the coming attacks.

The premise follows the building relationship between Calla and Guthrie but both are coming off of recent disastrous courtships with other wolves. Their attraction to one another is immediate but neither one wants to jump into another relationship fearing heartbreak and rebound emotions. While the preparations for the holidays get under way, Calla’s ex fiancé has plans of his own that involve getting Calla back-at any cost.

The world building continues using the backdrop of the Scottish Highlands and Argent Castle, as well as the continuing story of the MacNeill Wolf Pack and their growing family. The secondary characters include many of the previous storyline couples as well as Calla’s family and a number of rival wolf pack members whose goal is to see Calla returned to their Clan.

A HIGHLAND WOLF CHRISTMAS is a story of betrayal, revenge, heartbreak and hope. Terry Spear pulls the reader into a seductive tale of action, romance and suspense during the holiday season and Christmas festivities; where two people who have lost find love with one another. Terry’s wolves will tweak your imagination and set your mind onto a path of hopeful futures.

Broken Soul
Jane Yellowrock series – Book #8
by Faith Hunter
Release Date: October 7, 2014

BrokenSoulLoRezCoverAmazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo / The Book Depository / BAM

Description:
When the Master of the city of New Orleans asks Jane to improve security for a future visit from a delegation of European vampires, she names an exorbitant price—and Leo is willing to pay. That’s because the European vamps want Leo’s territory, and he knows that he needs Jane to prevent a total bloodbath. Leo, however, doesn’t mention how this new job will change Jane’s life or the danger it will bring her and her team.

Jane has more to worry about than some greedy vampires. There’s a vicious creature stalking the streets of New Orleans, and its agenda seems to be ripping Leo and her to pieces. Now Jane just has to figure out how to kill something she can’t even see….

Review:

Broken Soul by Faith Hunter is the 8th book in her wonderful Jane Yellowrock series. This is one of my favorite series that I always wait impatiently for the next book. Jane is a skinwalker, with the soul of a mountain lion as part of her. When this series started out, Beast (Jane’s other part) was a big part of Jane, but we didn’t get to see much of her. Over time, Beast has become a bit more equal with Jane, and their power together is lethal. I love Jane… I love Beast, and love listening to them talk to each other. In Broken Soul, Jane learns more from Beast the things they can do together, which makes them an awesome combo that can’t be beat.

Faith Hunter has taken us on this journey slowly through the years of watching Jane become what she is today, opening herself to family, friends, love and Beast. Best of all in this book, we finally get what we have all been waiting for. Bruiser.   I have said over the last few books, that Jane needed to dump Rick (who I do not like) and allow Bruiser into her life. Sigh…. Thank you, Faith. Read this book to find out more about Jane and Bruiser, not to mention Beast. Lol However, Leo’s reaction to Jane and Bruiser will blow your mind.

As the story starts, Jane as Leo’s (Master of the City) Enforcer, is in the midst of beefing up security in Leo’s mansion, as well as the new one being built. The European Vamps are coming soon for a visit, and they must be prepared for the possible threats on Leo’s territory. It was fun to watch Jane and other security staff practice with the top vamps how to handle swords, since the European Vamps use that weapon of choice. Unfortunately, they were unprepared for an attack from another dark source from Europe that is now in New Orleans, and puts them all in danger. We learn about the secrets Leo has kept from Jane and others, that also drew this dark group (known as Satan’s 3) to come before the arrival in a couple of months of the European Vamps. They are determined to bring down Leo, take all the secret magical items; including finding a mythical creature, L’arcenciels, a creature of light, who have dangerous abilities, which this group wants. From here on in, the adventure is non-stop action, fighting, danger, with lives lost. A very exciting, tense, pulse-pounding story that finds Jane thick in the middle, as this dark group wants her too. I will not be giving out spoilers, so you need to read this book to find out more.

Faith continually gives us wonderful new characters in this series. Eli and the Kid are now part of Jane’s team, and I love their relationship, giving us a feel of family togetherness. Derek is now training as Leo’s Enforcer, to take over from Jane, eventually. All the vamps that are part of Leo, are part of this story, which made this a lot of fun early on. One of the best parts of this story was Bruiser coming face to face with Beast. Oh I fell more in love with Bruiser. Please please Faith, keep Jane with Bruiser. Though there is a small part of me that wonders what it would be like with her and Leo. Lol

I continue to have the utmost respect for Faith Hunter. She gives us so much detail and at times complex, of Vampire history, current Vampire Politics, Mythical creatures that we remained glued to our seat in fear of missing any important information. With that said, this was also one of the most exciting books. Faith has done a marvelous job with the growth of Jane, and Beast. I cannot wait for the next book. If you have not read this series, you need to do so, as each book gets better and better.
