REVIEW:BLOOD MONEY: Vittorio is the second instalment in Kristine Allen’s contemporary, adult LA FAMIGLIA DE LUCA erotic, Mafia romance series-a part of the multi-authored MAYHEM MAKERS SERIES. This is twenty-eight year old, Chicago underboss Vittorio De Luca, and twenty-six year old Kendall’s story line. BLOOD MONEY can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary. Some of the events of BLOOD MONEY cross over with, and run parallel to some of the events of book one BLOOD LUST.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Vittorio and Kendall) BLOOD MONEY follows the second chance romance and relationship between twenty-eight year old, Chicago underboss Vittorio De Luca, and twenty-six year old Kendall. Ten years earlier, Vittorio De Luca, of the De Luca crime family, fell in love with Kendall, the granddaughter of a small bakery owner, against his grandfather’s wishes. In an effort to protect the woman he loved, Vittorio walked away but never forgot about the woman that called to his heart. Fast forward to present day, Vittorio will discover Kendall has returned in the wake of her grandmother’s illness, a return that brings with it memories from the past but all is not well in Chicago, as someone is trying to encroach on the De Luca territory, taking aim at our story line heroine. What ensues is the rekindling romance and relationship between Vittorio and Kendall, and the potential fall-out as Kendall struggles with what happened and why, and Vittorio learns the truth about Kendall’s heart breaking past.

Kendall had quickly fallen in love with Vittorio De Luca. A summer spent together ended with Kendall’s broken heart, and Vittorio a no-show to say goodbye. Ten years would pass before Kendall would see Vittorio but memories would never erase the loss and heart break of what could have been. Vittorio De Luca’s life was never his own, and his relationship with Kendall went against his grandfather’s laws. In an effort to protect Kendall, Vittorio was about to destroy the woman he loved but her destruction would come at a much larger cost.

The relationship between Vittorio and Kendall begins as a forbidden romance; a summer affair that ended painfully cruel and surprisingly hard. Vittorio was desperate to protect our story line heroine but in doing so would lose much more than the woman who had stolen his heart. Kendall’s return to Chicago meant a second chance for Vittorio but a second chance that would come with new and different threats for the De Luca family. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate, without the use of over the top sexually graphic language and text.

We are reintroduced to Vittorio’s brothers Gabriel, Alessio, Lorenzo and Leo; friends/security Pietro and Dario, as well as Vittorio’s grandfather, their father, and Kendall’s Nonna, and parents. The requisite evil has many faces. The author includes cameos and drops the name of several other authors (including her own) who are participating in the Mayhem Makers series.

BLOOD MONEY is a story of family and relationships, betrayal and vengeance, power and control, second chances and forgiveness, acceptance and love. The fast paced premise is emotional and captivating; the romance is provocative and seductive; the characters are charismatic, powerful yet vulnerable and lost.
