Years later, he’s left with an alcoholic ex-wife and a teenager who hates him. Dr. Bella Ricci had no reason to agree to Luca’s proposal. A teenage girl didn’t need a nanny, she needed a role model. But Luca was maddeningly irresistible, and Jenny was everything she dreamed a daughter could be. When they worked their way into Bella’s heart, it was hard to say no.

Now, when faced with an inevitable struggle, Bella has two choices: let the handsome man with a complicated past help her, or move forward on her own without the two people who have become her world.

Will Bella and Luca survive the fight to true love?

REVIEW: LUCA is the first instalment in Nikki Rome’s contemporary, adult CORSETTI EMPIRE erotic, romance series -a spin off from the author’s DARK KINGS series, and a cross over with the Heroes of Calvino Security series. This is midwife Dr. Bella Ricci, and Tech Tycoon/single father Luca Corsetti’s story line. LUCA can be read as a stand alone, you do not have to have read the other interconnected series.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Luca and Bella) LUCA follows the building romance and relationship between midwife Dr. Bella Ricci, and Tech Tycoon/single father Luca Corsetti. Luca is a single father to Jenny, a young teenage girl who is struggling with the upheaval in her life. Her mother is an alcoholic, and the subsequent divorce has upended Jenny’s world but meeting Bella Ricci while waiting for her father to finish his work gives Jenny pause for the future. Luca Corsetti is caught off-guard when his young brooding, troubled and oft-silent daughter is talking animatedly to a beautiful stranger. Desperate to connect and help his daughter, Luca makes Bella an offer she cannot refuse but Bella has a secret, and her time with Luca and Jenny may come to an end when Bella reveals she is going to need time for herself. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Bella and Luca, and the potential fall out when Luca’s past come looking for a second chance.

The relationship between Luca and Bella is one of immediate attraction but Luca struggles to connect with his embittered daughter. Jenny is immediately smitten with the stranger who takes time out of her schedule to help Jenny adjust, smitten enough to set into motion a plan to help her father fall in love. Luca’s is quick to realize that Bella just might be his happily ever after but Bella finds herself reluctant to commit to anything beyond the present. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate with some scenes of light bondage-Luca calls himself a ‘pleasure dominant’

The secondary and supporting characters include Christy and Jason Calvano (Heroes of Calvino Security series); Luca’s brother Micah Corsetti; his daughter Jenny, and Jenny’s mother Susan. Micah’s story line is next.

LUCA is a story of family and friendships, desperation and acceptance, relationships and love. The premise is captivating and engaging; the romance is seductive; the characters are energetic and charismatic.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 30, 2022

It was time for a change, and that change needed to be her…

Micah Corsetti had been left to pick up the pieces after his father’s shady dealings nearly ran their investment company into the ground. Micah succeeded in the impossible, and ended up with more money than he could ever hope to spend. However, when the parties were over and the night died down, he had nothing ahead of him but a long life of sharing his bed with strangers.

Isabel Diaz lied her way into the best job she’d ever had. Little did she know, at Corsetti Financial she would be working for one of the least respected men in Miami. Micah’s older clientele had no regard for his ‘new money’ and playboy lifestyle. Isabel brought stability, heart, and perseverance to the table, all things Micah both respected and wanted to exploit.

Now, faced with the biggest deal the company has ever seen, the two of them must make a decision: Fake it until they make it, or fake it forever. The problem is that neither of them were faking a thing.

Only time will tell if these two can survive when they have to choose what’s most important… Business? Or love?

•••••••

REVIEW: MICAH is the second instalment in Nikki Rome’s contemporary, adult THE CORSETTI EMPIRE erotic, romance series, a spin off from the author’s DARK KINGS series. This is the head of the Corsetti Financial division Micah Corsetti, and account representative Isabel Diaz’s story line. MICAH can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line and Dark Kings series is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Micah and Isabel) MICAH follows the building romance and ‘fake’ relationship between the head of the Corsetti Financial division Micah Corsetti, and account representative Isabel Diaz. Isabel Diaz has worked for and with Micah Corsetti for close to seven years, and their successful business relationship is about take a personal turn when a million dollar client gets the wrong idea about our story line couple, and Micah and Isabel must play out in an effort to keep the client’s business. Having to lie to her mother makes the unreality of the situation real Isabel never expected to fall for the man who could break her heart. Isabel has a secret past, a past that if exposed could destroy not only her career but the business Micah has made, a business that was once connected to organized crime (Dark Kings Series). As Micah and Isabel’s relationship slowly turns into something more, the paparazzi come calling, forcing Isabel to reveal her darkened past to the man with whom she is falling in love. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Micah and Isabel, and the potential fall-out when Isabel’s past threatens to destroy everything Micah has built, forcing Isabel to run with a broken heart.

The relationship between Micah and Isabel begins as a fake fiancée/relationship in order to appease the clients, the gossip and the tabloid paparazzi. Isabel knows that their time together will eventually come to an end but both are hoping that to get involved doesn’t mean to destroy their friendship in the process. The $ex scenes are intimate, aggressive and erotic but I dislike the use of a certain four-letter word in my romance story line.

We are reintroduced to Micah’s brother Luca, and his daughter Jenny; Isabel’s mother Mrs. Diaz, as well as the introduction of our next story line heroine.

MICAH is a story of secrets and lies, power and control, family and friendships, relationships and love. The premise is entertaining and spicy; the romance is provocative and edgy; the characters determined and energetic.

Money is the root of all evil…
Or is it?

Oscar Ashford grew up living a life of luxury. Sure, it had its appeal, but being raised by strangers and living in a home where he was seen and not heard left a lasting impression. Years later, this trust fund baby still worked hard to shake the term, always proving himself a better man than the day before. Sofia Corsetti’s life had been turned upside down. Suddenly, she was part of a family she had never heard of, and heiress to a fortune that was going to ruin her future. Dateless for her first event with her new family, she turned to the one thing she swore she’d never do; she let her best friend set her up with a matchmaking service. Little did she know, the striking man who showed up at her door had more secrets than she could imagine.

Will Oscar and Sofia face the obstacles of new love together, or will betrayal tear them apart?

•••••••

REVIEW: SOFIA is the third instalment in Nikki Rome’s contemporary, adult THE CORSETTI EMPIRE erotic, romance series-a spin off from the author’s DARK KINGS series. This is Sofia Corsetti, and Oscar Ashford’s story line. SOFIA can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Sofia’s story line begins in book two MICAH.

WARNING: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers including same-sex FF scenarios, domination, discipline, voyeurism and BDSM.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Oscar and Sofia) SOFIA follows the discovery of, and introduction of Sofia Edwards, soon to be known as Sofia Corsetti. Sofia is the illegitimate daughter of the late Corsetti patriarch, a man with connections to the criminal underworld. Upon old man Corsetti’s death, Dante Corsetti discovered his uncle fathered another child, a half sister to Luca and Micah Corsetti. Needing a date for her half brother’s wedding, with the help of her friend, Sofia enrolls on a matchmaking, dating site where she will be matched with our story line hero. Enter Oscar ‘Ozzie’ Ashford, the heir to Ashford Industries and Hotels, but a man who keeps secret his family connections. As Ozzie and Sofia’s relationship begins to build, Ozzie’s true identity will be revealed, breaking Sofia’s heart in the process. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Sofia and Ozzie, and the potential fall-out as lies of omission threaten the growing love between our story line couple.

The relationship between Ozzie and Sofia is one of immediate attraction. Ozzie has told Sofia he runs a youth center for at risk children but has struggled to tell Sofia the truth about his family and the family money. Secrets would tear our couple apart, forgiveness and understanding will bring them together but Ozzie has a kinky side, one Sofia is about to discover, when he introduces our heroine to The Citadel $ex Club. The $ex scenes are intimate and intense; there are some same $ex scenarios between Sofia and the club Dominatrix, as well as voyeurism, and discipline.

The secondary and supporting characters include Luca, Bella and Luca’s daughter Jenny; Micah and Bella, as well as their cousin Dante Corsetti.

SOFIA is a story of secrets and lies, power and control, family and love. The premise is engaging and interesting; the characters are energetic; the romance is seductive and provocative but herein lies the problem-up until Ozzie takes Sofia to the $ex club there is no mention, no inclination and no hint about what was to come-which in turn felt out of place to the overall story line. Sofia accepts everything, doesn’t question what Ozzie is offering including breath play, voyeurism, BDSM, Dominatrix etc.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date July 23, 2020.

Luca dragged me from hell and delivered me to salvation.
At least that’s what I thought.

I hoped this would be a new life. A fresh start.
But the pain followed.
I’m certain the monsters did, too.

I’m told it’s paranoia. Trauma. PTSD.
Nobody believes my truth.
But they’ll soon learn.

We all will.

Because as much as I want to forget the mantra from my nightmares, it hasn’t stopped being true.
The good guys never conquer. Evil always wins.

••••••••••••

REVIEW: LUCA is the fifth instalment in Eden Summers contemporary, adult HUNTING HER romantic suspense series, and part two of Penny Decker and ex Navy SEAL Luca Hart’s duet. LUCA should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up after the events of book four SAVIOR wherein Penny and several women were rescued from a sexual slave operation. The story ARC begins in book three TORIAN.

SOME BACKGROUND: Approximately two years earlier Penny Decker disappeared and had been held captive in Greece, as a sexual slave along with several other women, by crime lord Luther Torian. Luther Torian is the estranged father of Cole Torian (Torian #3) and Keira Torian (Decker #2). In book four SAVIOR, Penny, along with the other women were rescued and brought back to safety in the USA but trouble has followed our heroine home.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Luca and Penny) LUCA focuses on Penny’s recovery from months spent serving a monster but all is not well in Penny’s life as she continues to struggle with PTSD and issues of trust. Currently under the care, and living at the home of Luca Hart, Penny remains withdrawn and unsure, unable to move beyond the pain and damage of what happened or why. As Luca’s attraction to Penny grows with every encounter, Luca battles between head and heart knowing Penny has suffered greatly at the hands of Luther Torian and his second in command Robert. What ensues is the slow building romance and relationship between Luca and Penny, and the fall-out as Penny and the women remain virtual captives of their past but a past that is continuing to affect their present.

Penny Decker believes she is unworthy of happiness or love, and her personal pity parties often become self-fulfilling prophecies as she is unable to move beyond the past-two steps forward, one step back- our heroine‘s emotional struggles, and refusal to talk, are affecting her relationship with our leading hero. Luca Hart’s attraction to Penny was immediate upon their first interaction at the compound in Greece but Luca refuses to cross the proverbial line, a line Penny is hoping did not exist.

The relationship between Penny and Luca begins in book four SAVIOR and continues to build in the current time line. Living at Luca’s house, Penny busies herself cooking and cleaning but is unable to let go of what happened in Greece believing herself a victim of circumstance and life. Luca knows Penny is the woman that calls to his heart but even his heart knows that Penny is going to take time to heal. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Cole Torian and Anissa Fox, Sebastian Decker and Keira Torian, Luke Hunter, Cole and Keira’s half-brother Tobias; security operative Sarah; Luca’s brother Benji, and Benji’s wife Layla. The requisite evil has many faces.

LUCA is a story of betrayal, vengeance, and obsession; healing, relationships, friendships and love. The premise is engaging and captivating; the romance is seductive; the characters are energetic, dynamic, broken and lost. LUCA ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 27,2017

Luca Rizzoli was nearly destroyed by a brutal betrayal that cost him his family. Now a ruthless crime boss in the city of sin, he lets nothing touch his frozen heart–until a smoldering encounter with a beautiful stranger ignites his passion. One night isn’t enough for a man who takes what he wants, but his mysterious temptress has slipped away.

For two years police detective Gabrielle Fawkes has lived for revenge. But a night of indulgence with a sexy stranger changes everything. Powerful, charming, and deliciously dangerous Luca, has his own private reasons for offering to help her pursue the drug lord who killed her husband. There’s a lot Luca isn’t telling her and the more she finds out the less she wants to know.

When Gabrielle becomes the target of the drug lord she has vowed to hunt down, she must do the unimaginable: place her life in a mobster’s hands. To save her, Luca must break his Mafia ties–or risk losing Gabrielle forever.

••••••••••

REVIEW: LUCA is the second installment in Sarah Castille’s contemporary, adult RUIN AND REVENGE erotic, mafia romance series. This is restaurateur and Toscani family Capo Luca Rizzoli, and police detective Gabrielle Fawkes’ story line. LUCA can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary. Luca was first introduced in book one-NICO.

NOTE: LUCA contains scenes of graphic violence, murder and torture, and may not be suitable for all readers.

Told from several third person points of view including Luca and Gabrielle, LUCA is a forbidden romance between police detective Gabrielle Fawkes, and mafia Capo Luca Rizzoli. Two years earlier Gabrielle’s husband was brutally murdered in a mafia-style hit and our heroine believes the local drug cartel is responsible for his death. In the ensuing time Gabrielle has put all of her efforts into taking down the drug lord she believes is responsible but an on-duty shooting finds our heroine roommates with a dark and sexy man who offers Gabrielle everything and more. Enter Luca Rizzoli, a man who is willing to risk his ties to the mob to save the woman with whom he is falling in love. Several threats against Gabrielle’s life place Luca on the receiving end of more than one attempt at his own.

Loyalty to the family is first and foremost in the world of the Italian mob but Luca’s relationship with Detective Gabrielle Fawkes places our hero in a precarious position as it pertains to his loyalties and support of the man in charge. But Luca is willing to risk his life and his position for the woman that calls to his heart. His over protective, alpha attitude makes for some contentious moments between Gabrielle and himself. Luca’s backstory is emotional.

Gabrielle is desperate for revenge against the man she believes destroyed her life. Her narrow focus, disregarding everything else, finds our heroine facing down a hierarchy at work that is no longer willing to give Gabrielle a chance at revenge. Gabrielle’s inability to let go lands her in trouble on more than one occasion.

The relationship between Gabrielle and Luca is one of immediate attraction. The sexual chemistry is palpable; the $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense. Luca likes to take control and talk dirty in the bedroom.

LUCA is an intricate and detailed novel with several subplots weaving throughout the story-some connected while others focus on secondary characters and their struggle in both their personal and professional lives. There is a twist to the story line that was easily deduced and predictable.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including many members of the Toscani mob family both by blood and by mob association. We are introduced to Gabrielle’s husband’s former best friend police detective Jeff Santos, as well as Gabrielle’s besties Nicole and Cissy. I am hoping for Nicole’s HEA .

Although a well-written and exciting story line I did have an issue with Gabrielle’s inability to see, or lack of awareness as it came to Luca’s connections to the mob. For a detective she is completely oblivious to the who, what and why of the Toscani family, the mob and their dangerous lifestyle. Sadly this aspect leant to some unbelievable moments and shaking of my head.

LUCA is a dark, gritty, emotional and dramatic tale; a mafia romance of forbidden love between two people whose lives will collide in more ways than one. The premise is engaging and energetic; the characters are colorful, tragic and passionate; the romance is intoxicating and provocative.

D.B. Reynolds-Interview and Giveaway with the Author

D.B. REYNOLDS-Interview and Giveaway with the Author

FOLLOW: Website / Facebook / Twitter / YouTube

TRC:  Hi D.B. and welcome to The Reading Café. Congratulations on the release of LUCAS –the latest novel in your Vampires in America series.

We would like to start with some background information.  Would you please tell us something about yourself?

D.B.  Thanks for inviting me to the Cafe. Something about myself … I’m married, no children. My darling husband (DH) and I live near Los Angeles, in one of those flammable canyons you always hear about on the news. I love books and movies, travel and writing.

TRC:  Would you please tell us what the initials D.B. stand for in your name?

D.B.  D. B. Reynolds is my pen name. The initials represent family names, and are my way of paying homage to some important people in my life.

TRC:  Many authors begin their love of writing at an early age.  What was the catalyst that sparked your interest in writing?

D.B.  I’ve been a reader all my life, and always dreamed of being able to write the kind of books I enjoyed reading, to be able to tell stories that would draw people in the way the stories I loved did for me. I wrote on and off since high school. But then at a critical juncture in my life, I met a woman who’d been an acquiring editor for several of the big Sci-Fi houses. She read a couple of my short stories, and told me I really could write. It was her encouragement that motivated me to give it a serious try.

TRC:  Please list the top 5 things you would like to accomplish in the next 10 years.

D.B.  Not necessarily in order …
Write the last two books of the current Vampires in America story arc, and start a new one!
Publish my new Urban Fantasy series (while still writing my Vampires in America, of course.)
Travel somewhere I’ve never been, with my DH, naturally.
Read lots of amazing books.
Clean out my closets.

TRC:  Would you please give us a run down on the premise of the VAMPIRES IN AMERICA series?

D.B.  The books revolve around the Vampire Lords who rule all the vampires of North America, which is divided into eight territories, one to each Vampire Lord. The Vampire Lords are extremely formidable, with the literal power of life and death over the vampires they rule. They can kill with a thought, but they’re usually not that kind, preferring to get up close and personal when dealing death. My vampires are patterned after the classic vampire. They’re aggressive, territorial and violent. They embrace the power their vampirism gives them and relish the drinking of blood from the vein. There is no soul-searching, no self-hating. And when it comes to their mates, they’re extremely possessive and protective. Each book in the series arc introduces a Vampire Lord and the human woman who will be his mate, or in Sophia’s case, the man who will be hers. The books are also full of action and adventure, with a mystery or a crime to be solved, a wrong to be avenged.

TRC:  BETRAYED is your August 2012 e-novella in the same series.  Would you please tell us something about the premise?

ORDER LINK: Amazon

D.B.:  BETRAYED was the first Cyn & Raphael e-novella. Many of my readers wanted more of Cyn and Raphael, the first two characters introduced in the series. But they’re very dominant personalities—especially Raphael, who is probably the most powerful Vampire Lord in existence—and when the two of them are in a book, they tend to overshadow everyone else. So, I’m writing the Cyn & Raphael e-novellas to let readers keep up with their story, while still introducing the new lords and their mates in the books. In BETRAYED, someone sends an assassin after Raphael, and Cyn is determined to find out and kill whoever it was. Of course, the last thing Raphael wants is to put Cyn in the line of fire, so he and his people pursue their own hunt, while trying to keep Cyn out of it, even if it means betraying the trust she has in him.

TRC:  LUCAS is the latest release (October 2012) in your Vampires in American series.  Would you please tell us something about the premise?

ORDER LINKS: Barnes and Noble / Amazon/ The Book Depository

D.B.:  Lucas Donlon is a Vampire Lord. Charming and irreverent to his friends and lovers, he enjoys everything about his life as a vampire. When hostilities with his neighboring Vampire Lord come to a head, war is imminent, and Lucas will prove to be every bit as lethal as he is charming. But then we meet FBI Special Agent Kathryn Hunter, who is about to step into it and complicate Lucas’s life. Her baby brother has gone missing under circumstances that suggest a vampire is involved, and she will do anything to find him, even if it means going against both her FBI bosses and Lucas. Waging war against their enemies and each other, Lucas and Kathryn will risk everything to keep the most deadly vampire war in hundreds of years from engulfing every vampire, and human, in North America.

TRC:  How many books do you have planned for the series?

D.B.:  My current contract is for eight books, and four Cyn & Raphael e-novellas. But my publisher has already expressed an interest in carrying the series beyond the original eight books, with a new story arc.

TRC:  If you could virtually cast the Vampires in America using models and actors with whom would you cast the main characters in the series?

D.B.:  I get asked this a lot, and it’s really difficult. When I’m writing, I have a very specific image of my characters in my head, but it usually doesn’t relate to anyone in the real world. My vampires are all really big, intense guys, so casting looks-wise would be difficult enough, but to get that intensity, you’d need people who could act.

TRC:  If you could change anything about the series what would it be and why?

D.B. : Honestly, there’s nothing. I love every one of my guys, and have been very happy with the final manuscripts. Well, except for Rajmund—his story came in much longer than my publisher expected, and I had to do some serious cutting, but I was able to post a couple of the cut scenes on my blog. On the other hand, I would love it if I could someday get a new set of covers with original cover art. I’d love to see an artist’s version of my Vampire Lords.

TRC:  How do you handle the stress and anxiety of writer’s block?

D.B.:  Knock on wood, I’ve never experienced true writer’s block. There are times when the story doesn’t flow as smoothly as I’d like, but in those cases, I put in a place holder and skip to another scene. And when I go back, the stubborn scene is always there in my head. Generally, I find the best cure for writer’s block is writing. Once I lose myself in the narrative, the words always come.

TRC:  Who or what has been the biggest influence in your personal life? Professional life?

D.B.:  The biggest influence in my personal and professional life was my mother, who really encouraged my education and reading. She died before my first book was released, but I know she’d be proud. On a strictly personal note, I have a large and supportive family, and my wonderful husband who’s the most brilliant person I’ve ever known—and I’ve met some brilliant people.

TRC:  On what are you currently working?

D.B.:  I’m currently working on the first book of a new Urban Fantasy series. It doesn’t have vampires, but it does have werewolves, demons and human/demon hybrids. I’m also working on the outline for the next Vampires novella and book, and I’ll be starting those in late January.
