ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date December 14, 2021.

Rex “TW” McMurtry’s perpetual single-hood wouldn’t bother him so much if all his ex-girlfriends didn’t keep marrying the very next person they dated, especially when so many of those grooms are his closest friends. He may be a pro-football defensive end for the Chicago Squalls, but the press only wants to talk about how he’s always a groomsman and never a groom. Rex is sick of being the guy before the husband, and he’s most definitely sick of being the best man at all their weddings.

Bartender Abigail McNerny is the gal-pal, the wing-woman, the she-BFF. She’s dated. Once. And once was more than enough. Privy to all the sad stories of her customers, ‘contentment over commitment’ is her motto, and Abby is convinced no one on earth could ever entice her into a romantic relationship . . . except that one guy she’s loved since preschool.

The guy who just walked into her bar.

The guy who doesn’t recognize her.

The guy who is drunk and needs a ride home.

The guy who has a proposition she should definitely refuse.

REVIEW:HOMECOMING KING is the first instalment in Penny Reid’s contemporary, adult THREE KINGS erotic, romance series. This is professional football player Rex ‘TW” McMurtry, and twenty-eight year old, bartender Abigail “Abby” McNerny’s story line.

Told from first person perspective (Abigail) HOMECOMING KING follows the fake relationship/marriage between professional football player Rex ‘TW” McMurtry, and twenty-eight year old, bartender Abigail McNerny. Defensive end for the Chicago Squalls , Rex McMurtry, rolled into Abigail McNerny’s bar, and unknowingly found himself, the next morning, hungover and recovering from a night he could not remember but Abigail remembered our story line hero, having lusted after Rex for most of her life including preschool, grade school, high school and so on. Rex’s return to his hometown came with an offer, an offer of marriage for our story line heroine. What ensues is the building romance but fake marriage between Rex and Abigail, and the potential fall-out as Abigail tries desperately to remember that her marriage isn’t real, but the heart wants something too good to be true.

Rex TW McMurtry is one of the few single men on his team, having dated then setting up everyone of his married friends with the woman he saw. Struggling with the lack of his own happily ever after, Rex had wandered home, in an effort to forget about what he thought he would never have. Abigail McNerny’s past is haunted by betrayal, and in this, she battles between head and heart believing a fake relationship with Rex could only end in disaster. Still struggling with her own demons, Abigail’s relationship with Rex has placed a target on our story line heroine.

The relationships between Rex and Abigail is a fake marriage between childhood schoolmates that quickly turns into something more. Abigail has had a crush on Rex McMurtry all of her life but she never thought Rex would take an interest in someone from back home. The $ex scenes are limited but passionate and intense without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to several of Rex’s teammates; his Aunt Sal and Uncle Terry; his best friend and actor Cyrus Malcolm; Abigail’s boss/father figure Walker; her best friend Kaylee, as well as her ex Declan.

HOMECOMING KING is a fast paced and fun yet emotional story. The premise is wonderfully engaging; the romance is seductive; the characters are charismatic and energetic-the back and forth between Abby and Rex is humorous and entertaining. My only issue would be for a dual first person point of view, as we have no idea as to what is happening with our story line hero.

“Abby?”
A jolt of nerves—spikey, tingly electricity—rushed in a pulsing wave from the base of my neck outward, to every limb and appendage. I inhaled a deep, silent breath, steadying myself, willing my heart to cease its deafening drumbeat between my ears. I pasted a small smile on my face, shoving away the clutter of self-consciousness. Rotating the stool 180 degrees, I faced him.
“Oh. Hey, Rex. Long time no see. What are you doing here?” I could do this. I’d spent a full hour in my apartment with him yesterday, having conversations, not being a staring, stalkery, simpering weirdo. Heck, I’d even relaxed, forgotten who he was, settled into the conversation. I’d enjoyed his company and myself.
I’d even brushed his teeth for hootenanny’s sake! That was me. Another short conversation should be a cake-walk. I. Can. Do. This.
Rex McMurtry, hovering several stools away emanating serious BSE (Big Sweater Energy), looked at me like he knew me, like we were friends maybe, and he felt completely at ease in my presence. “Are you on the clock? Do you have a minute?”
I thought about lying, telling him I had no time for the foreseeable future. It’s not that I was unhappy to see Rex, far from it. A small but loud part of myself squealed with rebellious glee, because he was here to see meeeee!
And yet, the much larger, quieter, reserved part couldn’t help but feel wary of his presence and the additional disruption to my life it might cause, even it was just a mental disruption.
Glancing at my watch, I forced lightness. “I have a minute. What’s going on? Did you leave something at my place?” That’s probably why he’s here.
“No,” he responded easily, bursting my theory bubble and sauntering forward to the stool next to mine. “I wanted to see you.”
“Oh?” My heart fluttered pitifully, and my stomach swirled with heat. For the record, I did not believe he was here to make all my fantasies come true, but the stupid thought entered my brain anyway.
“Yeah.” His hand braced on the back of the stool, but he didn’t sit. “I’m in town for a few more days, until Sunday, and I wanted to see if you had any time off.”
I stared at him, saying nothing, trying to keep my thoughts ordered and my breathing under control, because WHAT THE HECK IS HAPPENING?!
Was he . . .
Is he . . .?
Fantasies?!
Naaaaah.
No, Abigail, Rex McMurtry is not here to read quietly next to you on a couch, kiss your face off, and have sex on every surface of your apartment. This is not a high school musical porno and you can’t sing for shit.

Will Kaitlyn be able to face the truth about her family’s past or will her sister remain lost forever?

•••••••••••

REVIEW: GIRL FORGOTTEN is the fifth and final instalment in Kate Gable’s contemporary, adult DETECTIVE KAITLYN CARR murder mystery suspense series focusing on LAPD Detective Kaitlyn Carr. GIRL FORGOTTEN should not be read as a stand alone as there is an ongoing premise throughout, and it picks up immediately after the events of book four GIRL TAKEN.

SOME BACKGROUND: Kaitlyn Carr’s thirteen year old sister has been missing for several months, last seen when she was dropped off at home by the mother of a friend. From there, Kaitlyn’s sister’s whereabouts are unknown. Big Bear Lake is out of Kaitlyn’s jurisdiction but when a second thirteen year old girl goes missing and is later found dead, the FBI is called in to investigate bringing Kaitlyn’s current friends with benefits, FBI agent Luke Galvinson, back into her life.

Told from dual first person perspective (Kaitlyn and Kelly) GIRL FORGOTTEN follows LAPD Detective Kaitlyn Carr as she is called into investigate the murder of a young mother Kelly Flynn, whose ex- husband is a member of the local MC but when a suspect is brought in, an easily coerced confession sends up too many red flags, until a DNA discovery triggers another possible killer. As Kaitlyn begins another round of interviews and investigations, a witness must be protected before it is too late.

Meanwhile, Kaitlyn’s family life is a point of contention for our story line heroine as she continues to struggle with the death of her father, a death she believes to be something more, and the lack of movement on the investigation into her sister’s disappearance that has apparently gone cold. Kaitlyn reopens her sisters’s case by interviewing some of her friends; and having a heart to heart with some of the people involved her her father’s life.

GIRL FORGOTTEN resolves the case of Kaitlyn’s missing sister, her father’s death, and our heroine’s future with the man that she loves. Kate Gable pulls the reader into an intriguing and captivating five-part story of one woman’s desperate search for her sister, as she continues to perform her duty as an LAPD detective. The premise is compelling; the romance is passionate but mostly implied; the characters are energetic, charismatic and real.

The first time we met, I was rescuing her from a cult.

The second time I laid eyes on her was when she showed up at Cerberus with a secret, asking me for an unthinkable favor. What she was offering was something I never thought I could have, so I readily agreed.

I wanted more than just her secret though.

How can I convince my wife to fall in love with me when someone else is threatening to take it all away?

••••••••

REVIEW:APOLLO is the eighteenth instalment in Marie James’ contemporary, adult CERBERUS MC erotic, MC romance series. This is US Marine, Nate ‘Apollo’ Fosse, and April Gibson’s story line. APOLLO can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. April Gibson is Cara Gibson’s sister (THUMPER).

Told from dual first person perspectives (April and Nate), APOLLO follows in the aftermath of our heroine’s rescue and relocation from a cult but all is not well in April Gibson’s life. Pregnant and homeless, April seeks out the Cerberus MC, her sister Cara, and ultimately Nate ‘Apollo’ Fosse, the man with whom April will fall in love. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between April and Nate, and the potential fall-out as April’s past demands everything and more.

April Gibson knew her life would never be ‘normal’ but never expected to get pregnant by her high school sweetheart, or find herself homeless when her ultra-conservation, very religious grandparents saw nothing more than an act of sin. With no place to go, April headed to the Cerberus MC clubhouse, hoping to convince Nate to marry her, in an effort to allow her child to be born without sin. Nate Fosse never expected to fall in love, and definitely ensured he would never have kids but when April offered up her hand in marriage, Nate jumped at the chance to help a young woman who has never known love or safety in her life.

The relationship between Nate and April begins as a marriage of convenience that quickly sours when April is unable to look beyond Nate’s previous relationships. Trusting her new husband is difficult with his reputation as a bit of a manwh*re, but believing in herself is much more difficult and harder than she can imagine. The $ex scenes are intimate, passionate and intense, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including several of the previous story line couples or characters. We are re-introduced to attorney Faith Robbins, as well as April’s ex-boyfriend Cory Clark.

APOLLO is a story of family and relationships, friendships, determination, acceptance and love. The premise is edgy; the romance is provocative and seductive-the sexual chemistry is palpable; the characters are flirty, broken and determined. My only complaint is the rapid one-eighty of our story line heroine-from innocent, naïve, awkward, recluse to a sexual kitten and flirty young woman.

Follow Me Always ( Follow Me ) by Helen Hardt-a review

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date AUGUST 10, 2021

He unleashed the darkness in her…but it might cost them both.

Billionaire Braden Black has one hard limit in the bedroom. He doesn’t talk about it, and he doesn’t engage in it. But when his lover, Skye Manning, begs him for it, he has to face facts—while he may be able to buy her anything, he can’t give her this. Though he loves her desperately, he’s starting to worry their relationship can’t continue.

Skye Manning has fallen down the rabbit hole and become captive to her needs. When Braden asks her why she desires something so dark, and she finds she can’t respond, she knows she’ll have to come up with those answers on her own. She’s willing, but she wants something in return—Braden’s complete honesty about his past.

Because Skye is convinced her needs, his limits…everything is tied to this one secret.

•••••••

REVIEW: I took the plunge into the world of Helen Hardt and her Follow Me series, and WOW what a read! Braden was a top contender for book boyfriend in book one, but now he’s number one for the month! Follow Me Always is the third book in Hardt’s ongoing series, and this one is a woozy. The series to me should be read in order to get all the goodness and back story to continue on. That being said books one and book two are both amazing and are enjoyable reads on their own.

Braden Black and Skye Manning are back at it again in the latest installment of the series. Braden is as controlling and intense as ever and Skye continues to pour her heart and soul out to him, but something is missing. There are questions that she has, and no matter how hard she tries Braden simply won’t answer them. Nothing is what it seems with Braden’s past, the more he won’t share, the more it digs for Skye to know. There is so much to decompress with Follow Me Always. After three books, I am so emotionally involved with these characters I feel like I should be invited to the “better happen one day” wedding. I have nothing negative to say about the book, it’s sexy and dark, full of off- and off-screen chemistry. Their conflict and learning moment in this book is sure to surprise some readers as it did me, but nonetheless, I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / B&N / KOBO / Chapters Indigo / Google Play/ Apple

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 25, 2021.

He’s her best friend.
A reformed bad boy turned hot teacher.
And after one spur-of-the-moment Vegas wedding… her husband.

Jordan Benoit and Fletcher Landry have been best friends since they were six. He’s always been The Guy. When she needed picked up, cheered up, or lifted up — like literally, to see the stage at a concert — Fletcher was the guy.

So when her boyfriend dumps her — on national TV — Fletcher immediately gets on a plane and comes to her rescue.

And when she ends up in a Vegas wedding chapel and needs someone to say, “I do” …yep, Fletcher’s the guy. Of course.

But being The Guy 24/7 is a lot. He just wants everyone to give him a freaking minute to get this marriage thing right. Including his sexy, sweet new wife who he’s wanted for three years. Who is exasperatingly, temptingly all-in from minute one.

Jordan knows what she wants. A life in her hometown. A job with alpacas. And Fletcher. Not necessarily in that order.

They’ve said the vows. They’d told the world. They’ve told their grandmas. Forget taking things slow. Forget just heavy petting. Forget any chance of backing out when things get tough. They’re going to have to go all the way, in every way.

After all, friends becoming lovers should be the easiest thing in the world. Right?

••••••

REVIEW:HEAVY PETTING is the second instalment in Erin Nicholas’ contemporary, adult BOYS OF THE BAYOU GONE WILD erotic, romance series, a spin off from the author’s BOYS OF THE BAYOU series. This is elementary school teacher Fletcher Landry, and science teacher/educator Jordan Benoit’s story line. HEAVY PETTING can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line or series is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Jordan and Fletcher) HEAVY PETTING follows in the aftermath of the televised breakup of Jordan Benoit, and her long time boyfriend, up and coming music star Jason Young. Since the age of fifteen Jordan and Jason have been an item but Jason’s star is on the rise, and when the opportunity to go to Nashville presented itself, Jordan didn’t hesitate to to support the man with whom she was in love but not everyone was happy with Jordan’s decision leave the Louisiana Bayou, and Fletcher Landry made his opposition known that he didn’t want to lose his best friend to a touring star. An ill-time, on air, televised Las Vegas proposal spiralled out of control, leaving a humiliated Jordan in its’ wake. Refusing to stand by and watch the woman he has always loved fall from grace, Fletcher heads to Vegas, and returns home a married man, with Jordan on his arm. What ensues is the best friends to spouses relationship between Jordan and Fletcher, and the potential fall-out as Fletcher begins to reconsider his need to always rescue our story line heroine, believing he has missed out on everything in between.

Fletcher Landry has loved, and been in love with his best friend Jordan most of his life but watched from the sidelines as our heroine fell in love with someone else. No amount of pleading could persuade Jordan to stay behind when Jason headed towards fortune and fame, but life on the road proved to be more than Jordan could have ever imagined. Jordan Benoit thought she found the one in Jason Young but never expected to become the target of both sympathy and vitriol in the wake of Jason’s televised proposal that went all to h*ll. Fletcher’s arrival in Vegas proved that Fletcher was the man who understood our heroine, the most, but always arriving at the ‘end’ meant Fletcher missed everything leading up to the big reveal.

The relationship between Jordan and Fletcher is a best friends to spouses. Fletcher knew that Jordan was the only woman he would ever love but a spontaneous Vegas wedding was a little bit more than he had bargained. Struggling with what was, and what had never been, Fletcher battled between head and heart wondering if he ever really knew the woman he loved. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

Several of the previous story line and series characters cross over for cohesion and familiarity. Fletcher’s brothers Zeke and Zander figure prominently in Jordan’s return to the Bayou, as does the petting zoo where our heroine initiates an education centre for children in need.

HEAVY PETTING is a story of friendships and relationships, second chances (of a sort) and love. The character driven premise is entertaining and captivating ; the characters are fun and flirty; the romance is passionate and steamy.

“I also think that I need to—”
“Marry me.”
“Date you.”
They spoke at the same time.
Then stared at each other.
“What?”
“What?”
They spoke simultaneously again.
“I was trying to give you some freaking space before I said anything.” He seemed very annoyed suddenly.
She leaned in, bracing her hand on the seat between them. “The last person I need space from is you, Fletcher. I mean, we’ve basically been dating for twenty years. If dating is about getting to know someone and figuring out how well you fit with them and figuring out if you want to spend the rest of your life with them…we’ve done that.”
He shook his head. “You have got to be one of the most exasperating people in my life.”
Her eyebrows rose. “Considering your twin brothers are Zeke and Zander, being one of the most exasperating people in your life is pretty huge.”
He shook his head. “Absolutely exasperating. To think I could’ve kissed you when we were standing next to a king-sized bed and you were only in your bra and panties and you would have been all in.”
Jordan felt her cheeks flush, but she grinned widely. “I really am a pain.”
“You really are.” His gaze dropped to her mouth.
Jordan felt a zing of excitement go through her. She really wanted him to kiss her.
“I think you dating me is a great idea,” he said after a moment.
Thank God.
“You’re sure you’re done dating other people? Having fun with all those girls? All the casual relationships?” she asked.
“If it means I get to be with you? Absolutely.”
Her stomach swooped, harder and faster than before. “This isn’t crazy?”
“It makes a hell of a lot more sense than anything else. Like you dating other men. Or either of us being with anyone else.”
“We’ve never talked about this before.”
“You’ve been taken,” he said simply.
Right. That was true. And Fletcher was too good of a guy to go after another man’s girl.
She still felt compelled to say, “It’s been three years since anything happened.”
“Again, because you’ve been taken.” His voice dropped. “Only because you’ve been taken, Jordan.”
Her heart skittered at that and she wet her lips. She thought about her next words carefully. Several seconds ticked by. Then she said simply, “Prove it.”
Fletcher reached out, wrapped his big hand around her wrist, and tugged her close. He cupped the back of her head and brought her in until they were nose to nose. “This changes everything,” he said. Almost as if it was a warning.
“I know.”
“I’m the last frog you’re ever going to kiss. So be sure you want it now.”
That was exactly what she’d wanted to hear without even realizing it.

ABOUT THE BOOK:Release Date May 24, 2021

Terah Crane knows not to tempt the gods. A happy life—or at least an uncomplicated one—involves no gods at all. And since her loving grandfather bought her an Indulgence that exempts her from their service, she can focus on her other problems—the fact that her recent divorce has left her broke, unemployed, and reeling.

Seeking a fresh start, Terah packs everything she owns into her beat-up car and moves to her family’s empty country cottage—never mind that deadly firedrakes occasionally wander into the garden. When an unlikely flood carries a cracked pillar of stone from a nearby shrine right to Terah’s doorstep, it seems the gods demand her service after all.

The man trapped inside the monolith is still alive, and Terah’s reluctant task is to resurrect him, his godkiller of a sword—and his fury for vengeance.

The gods’ awesome powers are matched only by their careless, capricious whims—and vulnerable mortals are often the ones to suffer and die. Now, the gods are watching Terah, making her a pawn in their savage game. Her survival depends upon navigating a new world of peril and treachery, taking up a weapon, and making a fateful move of her own…

••••••

REVIEW: Well that was totally different to what I normally read!

Terah is recovering from a breakup, so needing time and space, she retreats to the family cottage to reevaluate her life. Not knowing that her life is going to change forever….

Adomanei is a busy man, he’s trying to woo a direct descendant of a god, so a marriage is needed between them if they want to rule the land, Nilea is all he thinks about, but being his father’s Hood has him running all over the place!!

Kol is a lesser god (not as high ranking as others!) and after being trapped for centuries, he’s out for revenge! But he needs to bide his time, he needs to gain his strength, so falling back on a descendant to date for him until he is at full power again.

A flood brings Kol and Tereh together, but it’s not a good thing, she’s not suppose to rescue or serve him, she is no one’s slave, but what is she to do?
And when he finally emerges from his stone tomb, (which was beyond stressful for both Kol and Tereh) she’s really for him to strike her down!

That was really good, but you do have to concentrate, and it does flit about a little bit, but once you get use to the rules, the names and who is who then the rest falls into place.

Definitely an author I will be looking forward to reading again.

So the plot…..

Gods are in charge, they have lesser gods under them, and under the lesser gods are the descendants of the gods. These are trained to serve, well you don’t really get much choice, unless you can escape servitude through payment.

Hoods are descendants of gods, these are a little like marshals keeping the peace. But if the god is angry, guess who gets told off!!
Anyway…. Kol centuries ago ran off with another God’s descendant, that Goddess was angry and encased him in stone (but there is definitely more to that story)

Now the stone he is encased in is cracking. Why? You’ll need to read to find out why.
Tereh is then made a Hood so she can look after Kol.

Easy…. Ha!! It’s anything but that!! Poor Tereh then has to navigate the backstabbing/intrigue/double dealing works of the Gods, the Hoods and other humans!! She’s now in charge of caring for Kol, and she’s his voice until he is at full strength.

Focus is very much on the Tereh in this book. The poor human doesn’t know what to think, she’s only trying to get herself sorted after a bitter divorce, and now she’s in the limelight as the favourite of the Crimson God Aran, and she’s the teal Hood for Kol!! If that’s not enough she’s got to navigate the power games people play.

And she’s also being chased by a suitor, and a strange being wants to know all about her!!

Cliffhanger? Wouldn’t really call it a cliffhanger, more of an intro into book 2….

New series? Yes it is, and I’m looking forward to the next book that should be out this year.

Romance? Not much, and at for most of the time I wouldn’t really call it a romance, there is the romance between Adomanei and Nilea, but not much for poor Tereh!

It did remind of a few old films, where the Gods like to move humans around like chess pieces!♟ And there is a lot going on in this book, you do need to concentrate, but saying that it does flow pretty well.

It’s a cleverly thought out book. And very well written.
And I can’t wait to see where the next book takes us.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 18, 2021

It took ten seconds to fall for her, one accident to lose her, and seven years to get back to her

SADIE
Britt Tillman was a jerk.
Yet I was forced to tolerate him.
Our parents were best friends.
I’m not sure if I hated him or if I secretly wanted him.
Then Britt kissed me.
He growled when his mouth touched mine.
His lips were soft. His hold was firm.
The next day, he vanished.
After seven years, he’s back with a sexy smile, flirty eyes, and jacked muscles.
Not that I care.
Let him slather on the charm.
I won’t give in to The Tillman Crush.
Not this time.

BRITT
Sadie Holland. Beautiful. Smart.
The untouchable girl next door.
Growing up, I wanted her.
To keep her at a safe distance, I was mean to her.
Then, the accident happened.
With my mom gone, my father turned to the bottle.
So I left town the first chance I got.
Now, I’m back and not just for Sadie.
The other thing I want.
Well, the girl I came back for might not like it.
Still, I won’t stop until I get what I want.
Not this time.

REVIEW:THE TILLMAN CRUSH by Kelly Gendron is a stand alone, contemporary, adult, erotic, romance story line focusing on twenty-six year old, micro brewery owner Britt Tillman, and twenty three year old Sadie Holland’s story line.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Sadie and Britt) using present day and memories from the past THE TILLMAN CRUSH follows the best friend’s little sister /frenemies relationship between twenty-six year old, micro brewery owner Britt Tillman, and twenty three year old Sadie Holland. Most of her life Sadie Holland had been in love with her brother’s best friend Britt Holland until the day he kissed her good bye without looking back. Fast forward to present day wherein secrets are about to reveal the truth about what happened years before with Britt’s return to his hometown to claim our story line heroine. What ensues is the rebuilding relationship, friendship and romance between Britt and Sadie, and the potential fall-out as Sadie struggles with issues of trust, and Britt’s dismissive attitude years before.

Britt Tillman never wanted to leave Sadie behind but in an effort to escape the dysfunction of his family, Britt knew he had to leave in order to survive. Breaking Sadie’s heart was never what he wanted but life and everything it had to offer, was just beyond the horizon. Sadie Holland never recovered from the heart break of Britt Tillman’s kiss good bye. Without a word, Britt disappeared from their lives, and in the ensuing years life changed for everyone involved but now that Britt was back in town, secrets are revealed, lies exposed, and everything Sadie thought she knew, would turn out to be a lie.

The relationship between Sadie and Britt is one of second chances, of a sorts, for two people whose lives went in different directions. Britt’s return comes with the promise of a happily ever after but Sadie struggles in the face of betrayal and lies. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The colorful secondary and supporting characters reveal a past mired in secrets and abuse. We are introduced to Sadie’s brother Caleb; one-time school bully Cole; Britt’s business manager Reece; Sadie and Caleb’s father Calvin Holland; and memories of Britt’s parents.I am hoping the author has plans for Caleb, Reece and Cole.

THE TILLMAN CRUSH is a story of family, friendships, relationships and love; a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and heart break; forgiveness and hope. The premise is emotional and heart breaking yet there are several fun and flirty moments as our couple reflect on past experiences; the romance is seductive and hot; the characters are wonderful but broken and moving forward.

“No.” I snag my gun back from him. “It’s not loaded.”
“Good. I wouldn’t want my welcome home to be a shot in the ass from an old friend.”
Did he just refer to me as his friend?
“Home?”
“Yes, Sadie. Home.”
“So you plan on staying?”
“Yes.”
“Like you’re going to live here? Up there, in your dad’s house, from now on? You’re not leaving?”
“I can’t tell if that’s dread, disbelief, or uncertainty in your voice.”
Pick one, or better yet, all of the above nearly falls from my mouth, but everything stops when he reaches out and pinches the end of my braid. Well, everything except whatever is going on between my legs.
Yeah, that still wants to run over and give him…a hug?
Which is strange, considering Britt Tillman wasn’t one of those guys who made me bat my eyes or twirl my hair. No. He made my blood boil and fists clench. He didn’t say much, but it was usually a one-liner that I had a hard time figuring out when he did. After all, he’s almost three years older than me. So, when comparing fifteen to almost eighteen, there’s a difference. I’d like to think now that I’m older that there’s less of an understanding gap.
He stares down at his fingers. “I thought you were done wearing braids when you turned fourteen?” His eyes lift to mine. “I always liked them on you.”
Alright, no misunderstanding there. That was a compliment. What the hell is going on? I’m not sure how to react.
“Okay!” I hold up my hands. “All I want to know is what you did with Britt Tillman.” I laugh but fall short when he pulls on my braid.
He draws me closer to him. His head bends, and his smile melts away.
His lips relax inches from mine.
His eyes darken.
“Look really close, Sadie.” He pauses long enough for me to take that look, and everything he ever made me feel, good and bad, floods through me. “He’s still in here.”
The night he left comes crashing into me. The growl he made when his mouth touched mine. The way his lips were soft and his hold was firm. I was sixteen. I’d kissed a boy before, but none like Britt. He frightened me, and he made me feel something new… something I’ve been looking for but haven’t found since that kiss.
“Yes.” I yank my hair from his fingers and arch back. “I can see that.” I run my hand over my braid.
He stands up straight and smiles, but it doesn’t reach his eyes. They remain dark and astute as though he knows what’s between my legs and that it wants to jump all over his ripped body.
Damn him! I’m not going back there. He confused me that night, and then he left!
“Well.” His head dips. “I’ll see you tomorrow then.”
“Tomorrow?”
“Yeah.” He grins. “Didn’t Caleb tell you? He invited me over for dinner.”
“Caleb knows you’re in town?”
He laughs. This time, the gesture lights up his eyes. “I’ll see ya, Sadie.”
“Yeah,” I watch him turn and walk toward his truck.
Wait until I see my brother! He could’ve warned me Britt Tillman was back!
