REVIEW:STOLEN HEARTS is the fifth instalment in Jagger Cole’s contemporary, adult DARK HEARTS dark, erotic, Mafia romance series. This is thirty-three year old, Christopher ‘Castle’ James, and twenty-one year old, Calliope ‘Callie’ Drakos’ story line. STOLEN HEARTS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order for backstory and cohesion.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise there WILL BE triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Callie and Castle) STOLEN HEARTS follows the age-gap, arranged marriage, marriage of convenience, acrimonious relationship between thirty-three year old, Christopher ‘Castle’ James, and twenty-one year old, Calliope ‘Callie’ Drakos. Years earlier, Calliope Drakos’ father promised our heroine to the don of the Italian Mafia, a cruel man who is determined to destroy our story line heroine but Callie is in love with someone else, and struggles to accept her fate in life. An attack against our story line heroine pulls Castle James back into her life, an attack that will force Castle to claim Callie as his wife, a claim Castle vows in name only but all does not go according to plan as Callie’s attraction to Castle escalates with every physical encounter with our story line hero, as Castle’s walls begin to crumble married to the woman that calls to his heart. As Castle’s position within the Irish Mafia takes a commanding lead, someone else is determined to destroy them all. What ensues is the building relationship between Castle and Callie, and the potential fall-out when Callie and Castle are targeted, for sins of the past.

The world building continues to focus on the Irish, the Greek, and the Italian Mafia, and the Russian Bratva. Interconnected through marriage, family, partnerships, business arrangements and love, the leaders and soldiers must work together in an effort to protect two of their own.

The relationship between Callie and Castle is tempestuous at best. Callie has been in love with Castle for as long as she can remember but Callie has been promised to someone else, and Castle refuses to cross an invisible line believing himself too old and unworthy. As Callie and Castle’s need for one another begins to spiral out of control, jealousy and a need to protect force Castle to claim our heroine in spite of the threats from everywhere else. Callie is a little bit immature, and Castle keeps his demons close to his heart. The $ex scenes are aggressive and intense with some scenes of spanking.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and powerful secondary and supporting characters including Callie’s siblings, and several members of the Irish Mafia. Castle is the second in command, and will quickly learn that all is not as it seems at the top.

STOLEN HEARTS is a story of power and control, betrayal and vengeance, heart break and pain, family, friendships, relationships and love. The premise is dark, gritty, provocative and dramatic; the romance is challenging and daring; the characters are determined and desperate.

THE ARROGANT THIEF can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Melissa is Peter Slade’s sister (The Vengeful Thief #4).

Told from dual third person perspectives (Gage and Melissa) THE ARROGANT THIEF follows the building relationship between professional thief Gage Triton, and Melissa Slade. One of the original ‘bad boys’ from earlier in the series, Gage Triton now works undercover for Hart Securities, and his latest assignment goes all to hell when the woman with whom he is working is abducted and her life is threatened if Gage doesn’t follow along. Enter Melissa Slade, Peter Slade’s sister, and the woman with whom Gage will fall in love. What ensues is the building but tempestuous romance between Gage and Melissa, and the potential fall-out as Gage and Melissa are tasked with destroying a man’s life in order to save the life of our heroine.

THE ARROGANT THIEF focuses on family betrayal, jealousy and revenge. Gage and Melissa are pulled into one woman’s plans to ruin the reputation of someone close. Gage’s personal and professional history straddles a fine line between right and wrong; Melissa is caught in a spider’s web, where her life hangs in the balance if things don’t go according to plans.

The relationship between Gage and Melissa begins as a working relationship but Melissa finds herself attracted to a man whose personal life is a little bit out of control. Having danced around one another for a long period of time, our heroine is embarrassed and ashamed of her feelings for Gage, feelings she believes are not reciprocated. The $ex scenes are limited, intimate and passionate, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text but saying that I didn’t feel the connection between our leading couple. Although on the job, Gage’s back and forth, up and down attitude leaves something to be desired.

THE ARROGANT THIEF is an energetic and suspenseful story line with spirited characters and an encouraging romance. Mallory Crowe’s STOLEN HEARTS series is a must read for fans of romance suspense.

There is a story line developing between Melissa and Gage. The requisite evil has many faces including one too familiar to our story line heroine.

THE CUNNING THIEF is a quick read; a story of family and business partners; of betrayal and revenge; of secrets and lies. The premise is engaging and entertaining; the characters are charismatic and energetic; the romance is heated and frenzied. Mallory Crowe’s STOLEN HEARTS is a sexy and sassy series that you do not want to miss.

“Make it something… you’ve never told anybody else before.”
“Okay.” He took a deep breath, as he appeared to think carefully about what he would share. “I love the water.”
She reached out and playfully tapped his arm. “Come on. That’s not a secret.”
“Wait, wait. I haven’t gotten to the good part yet. When I was young, really young, I almost drowned. My dad wanted to teach me how to swim and thought the best way was just to push me off the fishing boat, no lifejacket or nothing. He thought that since it was life-and-death, I would just figure it out. Well, I didn’t. I was half dead. Lost consciousness and everything. It was only dumb luck that someone on a nearby boat saw it and jumped in after me.”
Shae didn’t know what she had expected him to reveal, but this was so much more than she’d asked for. “That’s terrible. Your dad wouldn’t come in for you when he saw you were having trouble?”
Tristan shrugged nonchalantly, as if the fact that his father almost killed him wasn’t a big deal. “I figure he still thought he was right. That eventually, I would just know how to swim and I would find my way back to the surface. The Good Samaritan got the water out of my lungs and took me to the hospital. For the next few years, I never even set foot on the beach. I did anything I could do to avoid water.”
She thought back to what he’d opened with. That he loved water. “So what changed?”
“My dad died. All he left me with was anger and resentment. I don’t know. All shit that wasn’t doing me any good then. So one summer, I rented this little cottage on a lake in Montana. Every day, I’d go in the water and wade a little bit deeper. Eventually, I was in over my head and not drowning. By the end of the summer, I could actually swim across the lake and back without any problems. So now I love the water. It’s not a bad memory for me anymore. It’s one more thing I conquered. I beat it. So there. Now you know something about me that nobody else does.”
Tristan looked down at her. The clouds must’ve parted, because the moon was suddenly bright on his face. He said the words nonchalantly, but the expression in his eyes was so different. It seemed… vulnerable. As though he were looking to her for approval. To see whether she thought his fear of the water had been ridiculous, or she was proud of his conquering it. Shae didn’t have any comforting words to give him. She and her own father seemed to be struggling throughout her entire life, but he never tried to kill her at least. Then again, Shae had never been good with words. So she decided not to say anything. Instead, she stood up on her tiptoes and pressed her lips to his. It started slow. Soft. Innocent. Tristan stayed still as her hands went up to his face, and she moved her lips against his.
At first, she thought she’d done something wrong. Maybe she’d misread this. Maybe he wasn’t really into her. Maybe she’d just gone and made a fool of herself. Right as she was about to pull away, something snapped in Tristan. He wrapped his arms around her and crushed her against his body as he finally kissed her back.
He opened his mouth over hers, and his tongue pushed inside as his hands moved along her back. One hand held still as the other found the curve of her ass through her dress and pulled her tightly against his very pronounced erection.
Shae gasped at the onslaught of sensations. She went through a mental list of the kisses she’d shared with different men, and nothing compared to this. This was desperate. This was all-consuming. She was confused, and turned on, and she never wanted it to stop. She willingly molded herself against his body and went up on her tiptoes for a better angle. One hand played with the back of his hair while the other roamed down a strong, muscular back, willing his shirt to disappear so it could be skin against skin. She’d just gotten to his waist when she felt something hard, and obviously not part of him. She pulled away with a questioning look, but he wasn’t looking at her. His attention was over her shoulder, and his expression was hard. He didn’t look like a man who had just been kissing her like she’d just been kissed. He looked focused and… angry?
“We have company,” he said.

SOME BACKGROUND: Following a theft that went horribly wrong, professional thieves and sisters Toni, Melody and Jennifer Murray vow revenge against the men who killed their mother.

Told from dual third person points of view (Scott and Toni) THE RELUCTANT THIEF focuses on the hunt for a killer. Several weeks earlier Toni, Jennifer and Melody’s mother was murdered on the job- a job meant to set the family up for life-but the theft of a thirty million dollar piece of jewelry resulted in the death of their mother, with the sisters on the run. Vowing to avenge their mother’s death each sister set into motion a series of events to track down the man responsible. Toni Murray will make things a little more personal when she gets up close and personal with the man ultimately responsible for her mother’s demise but interference from a former cop pushes all of Toni’s buttons and riles up her independent side. Enter Scott Hart, a man with a personal agenda of his own, and the man with whom Toni has fallen in love.

THE RELUCTANT THIEF is the culmination of four story lines that saw three sisters seek retribution and revenge for their mother’s death. With the formation of a new security team by Scott and Toni, THE RELUCTANT THIEF introduces the readers to a new series arc, as well as Peter Slade, Gage and Tristan-three men whose owns lives were destroyed by the man the Murray sisters had targeted for revenge. Slade’s story line is next in THE VENGEFUL THIEF. The premise is suspenseful and engaging; the characters are colorful and animated; the $ex scenes are limited without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

This is mercenary for hire James Weston, and twenty four year old heiress Willa Belli’s story line. THE DANGEROUS THIEF can be read as a stand alone but for cohesion and back story I recommend reading the series in order as each installment picks up upon the events of the previous, as well as the continuing premise throughout the series.

SOME BACKGROUND: Following a theft that went horribly wrong, Jennifer, Melody and Toni Murray vow revenge against the men who stole from them something that can never be returned. These are their stories as they hunt down the men responsible.

Told from dual third person perspectives (James and Willa) THE DANGEROUS THIEF is a bit of a departure from the series as the story line focuses on the daughter of one of the men the Murray sisters are hoping to destroy. As the witness to a murder, Willa is on the run, one step ahead of those hunting her down. Enter James Weston, mercenary for hire, and the man tasked with protecting our story line heroine. What ensues is the building relationship between Willa and James, and James’ struggle to protect the woman with whom he is falling in love.

Throughout most of her life, Willa Belli has been sheltered from her father’s business but as a witness to a recent homicide, Willa finds herself the center of attention, and with it the revelation to the truth about her father’s income, and the who and what of his business contracts. James Weston is unable to let go of the guilt from his latest assignment-an assignment that resulted in the death of someone he was charged with protecting. Hoping to make amends, James struggles with his attraction to Willa, and his inability to let go of the past.

The relationship between Willa and James begins acrimoniously. Willa’s anxiety over the murder, and the fear of the unknown finds our heroine trying to come to terms with her current situation. James knows that to get involved with a client could risk everything he has struggled to achieve but falling in love was never in the future. The $ex scenes are intimate and seductive without the use of sexually graphic, over the top language and text.

Most of the previous story line couples and characters plays secondary and supporting roles including Austin and Jennifer (The Cocky Thief), Toni Murray, and former Chicago police officer Scott Hart who was first introduced in the author’s RELENTLESS (Fractured Farrells series #5) . Melody and Adam (The Beautiful Thief) are in hiding, as Melody must keep a low profile while the others hunt for the men responsible for destroying their lives. Toni and Scott’s story line is next in The Reluctant Thief.

The world building continues to focus on revenge; vengeance for an unnecessary loss but a loss that broke the hearts of the Murray sisters. The building relationship between Willa and James sets the couple on a path towards a happily ever after including the possibility of Willa working with the Murray clan.

THE DANGEROUS THIEF is a story of revenge, family, romance on the run and retribution. The premise is moving; the characters are charismatic and energetic; the romance is spicy and hot. THE DANGEROUS THIEF is a captivating story about two people thrown together by circumstance and fate.

The relationship between Melody and Adam is quick to develop as our couple must work together toward a common goal. The $ex scenes are limited, seductive and intimate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There are a number of secondary and supporting characters including Melody’s sister Toni, and her partner in crime, former Chicago police officer Scott Hart; hired killer James Weston; the daughter of one of the men Melody is hoping to destroy –Willa Belli, and Jadon Belli, COO of Cordon Enterprises.

The world building focuses on revenge, retribution, family and love. Melody Murray is determined to avenge her mother’s death but too many distractions including a threat against Willa Belli; the interference of Melody’s ex-husband; a police warrant out for Melody’s arrest find our couple seeking refuge in out of the way places. There is a limited amount of trust between our leading couple including the fact that Melody was willing to kill the man with whom she is falling in love.

Hello! I’m really happy to be writing this guest post for The Reading Cafe! Sandy has always been so great to me and I only hope I can be a little entertaining to give back to all of her readers 🙂

Because blogging isn’t my specialty, I asked Sandy to give me a few recommendations for topics to discuss. And she gave me a great list of options and my answer to each of the craft related topics were “I don’t know”.

Now as a full time writer with over twenty books out, I should know how I do this for a living. I’m not naive enough to think I just walked up to a keyboard and thanks to my overwhelming talent, coherent stories just started to flow.

But when I write, I’m not thinking of craft. I’m not thinking of the nuts and bolts. I’m very driven by characters and where my intuition leads me when I write. But after countless discussions with other writers and private talks with friends it, finally hit me.

There’s a reason I don’t have to plot out each individual character arc. There’s a reason I don’t have to write a super detailed outline with action points carefully planned. It’s because of my childhood. When I grew up, I didn’t just casually read. I DEVOURED books. When I was in elementary school, I was reading my mother’s full length mystery novels. In middle school, I was well into romance books. Because I wasn’t super popular (that’s a post for another day…), I’d have some days where I wouldn’t even leave the house in the summer. I’d just shut myself in my bedroom and see how many books I could get through. It was a competition with myself. (I cannot stress how strange I was as a teen.)

Looking back, I think my obsessive nature when it came to those books gave me more knowledge on craft than a thousand writing workshops I could attend. So am I talented? I like to think so, but I think one of my biggest advantages in the competitive publishing world is the early foundations set up from reading book after book after book after (okay, this could go on for a while…)

So the best advice I can ever give any advanced, amateur, or up and coming writer is to keep on reading and never stop.

REVIEW: THE COCKY THIEF is the first installment in Mallory Crowe’s contemporary, adult STOLEN HEARTS romantic, suspense series focusing on the Murray sisters-Jennifer, Toni and Melody- a trio of professional thieves whose latest high stakes contract is both deadly and rewarding. This is Jennifer Murray, and Austin Miles’ story line.

Told from several third person perspectives THE COCKY THIEF focuses on a theft that goes horribly wrong. En route to her mother’s wedding Jennifer Murray will be introduced to Austin Miles-a man who claims to be her future step-father’s lawyer but a man who has been hired to pull off a thirty million dollar heist. What ensues is the building relationship between Jennifer and Austin, and the realization that there is more than one thief attending the wedding nuptials.

Jennifer Murray comes from a family of thieves and cons. Their latest assignment finds the sisters, and their mother, working together for a payout that would set them up for life. Enter Austin Miles, a professional con man and thief who must work with the sisters when things begin to go horribly wrong.

The relationship between Jennifer and Austin is one of immediate attraction but Austin knows that to get involved with a potential mark could spell disaster for his business. Jennifer’s reluctance to pull off the heist is compounded by her attraction to Austin, and her desire to keep peace within the Murray family. The $ex scenes are seductive and intimate without the use of over the top graphic text and language.

We are introduced to Jennifer’s mother Isobel, and her sisters Toni and Melody, as well as James Weston- a hired gun; and ex-cop Scott Hart. The requisite evil has many faces including Isobel’s future husband Gregory Stranger, and billionaire businessman Jonathan Sterling.

THE COCKY THIEF is a story of action, adventure, romance and loss, but I was hoping for a more detailed resolution to the events that occurred-a theft of that magnitude should have generated a more thorough and ongoing need for retribution and revenge-perhaps there is more to the story in an upcoming installment. The premise is entertaining and engaging; the characters are colorful, dynamic and energetic; the romance is provocative and moving.
