ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date October 11, 2016

Slick sports agent Griffin Steele is living the highlife in Los Angeles, far from the shadow of the North Carolina mountains where he grew up. But when his hometown falls on hard times and needs his help, Grif reluctantly agrees to commute between coasts. He never expects the lush scenery, in the form of pretty tomboy Carlie Beth Parrish, to be such a temptation.

After an impetuous one-night stand with Grif Steele fifteen years ago, hardworking blacksmith Carlie Beth has tried to make a living and raise her daughter in the hometown she loves. Then, too-sexy-for-his-Rolex Grif blows back into town like the perfect storm, making Carlie feel less like a thirty-something mom and more like an infatuated teenager.

When a stalker targets Carlie Beth, Grif can’t help but step in to protect her. But once he discovers the fourteen-year-old secret she’s been keeping from him, will he embrace the truth or will he turn his back on Steele Ridge and Carlie Beth forever?

•••••••••••

REVIEW: GOING HARD by Kelsey Browning is the first full length (second installment) in the multi authored contemporary, adult STEELE RIDGE erotic, romance series focusing on the Steele brothers (Griffin, Britt, Reid and Jonah) and their sister Evie, of Canyon Ridge (soon to be known as Steele Ridge) North Carolina. This is sports agent Griffin (Grif) Steele, and blacksmith Carlie Beth Parrish’s story line. There is a prequel novella (October 2016) introducing the Steele family on their return to Canyon Ridge to celebrate their mother’s birthday only to realize that Canyon Ridge is bankrupt and fallen into financial ruin.

Told from several third person points of view GOING HARD focuses on the purchase of Canyon Ridge, North Carolina by Jonah Steele (aka baby billionaire), and the appointment of his brother Griffin as the new city manager. But Griffin isn’t interested in his brother’s newest acquisition when a lucrative career as a sports agent sits waiting for him back in sunny California. Seeing Carlie Beth Parrish, a one-night stand from fifteen years earlier, stirs up old memories and a new revelation that Carlie has kept secret from Griffin and his family for over fourteen years. What ensues is the rebuilding relationship between Griffin and Carlie, and Griffin’s struggle to accept his new fate and direction in life. Meanwhile someone is targeting the people closest to Carlie Beth Parrish and the common denominator is Carly Beth herself.

Carly Beth Parrish is a little rough around the edges with issues of low self esteem centering on her less than feminine persona; she is a blacksmith with an artistic flare that has caught the attention of more than one resident of Canyon Ridge. Griffin Steele is a successful sports agent whose clients are rich and in need of personal direction. Griffin’s return to his home town comes with some preconceived notions from both the residents and the man himself.

The relationship between Carlie Beth and Griffin is a rekindling friendship that builds into something more. When Carlie Beth’s secret is revealed Griffin’s already fragile ability to trust is once again tested bringing with it too many memories of a dark time in his past-Griffin must choose between his life and career in California, or settle down with his family in North Carolina. The $ex scenes are intimate and intense. The sexual chemistry is palpable and hot.

The world building focuses on the Steele brother’s relationship, their bonds, and the family dynamic, as well as the rebuilding of a town bordering on financial failure.

GOING HARD is an intriguing and suspense filled story line focusing on jealousy and betrayal; second chances; secrets and forgiveness; letting go of the past and moving towards a new future. The premise is enjoyable; the characters are colorful, charismatic and passionate; the romance is seductive and fated. GOING HARD looks at family and friendships, heartbreak and betrayal in the small town, soon to be renamed, Steele Ridge, North Carolina.

REVIEW: STEELE RIDGE: The Beginning is a short story that introduces the Steele brothers -Grif, Reid, Britt and Jonah- along with their sisters Evie and Mickie, and their return to Canyon Ridge, North Carolina. Like many introductory novellas (and short stories) we get a quick glimpse into the Steele brother’s dynamics and the women they left behind.

Canyon Ridge, North Carolina is a dying town; near bankrupt and on the verge of financial ruin when someone sets fire to the albatross of a community center. Enter the four Steele brothers who have returned to their home town to celebrate their mother’s sixtieth birthday. What ensues is the search for the person responsible for the fire, and each of the brother’s reflection on what was and what they left behind.

STEELE RIDGE is a very quick read that reveals some of the personal background information as it pertains to each of the brothers; their father’s lack of presence in their mother’s life; and a sister who may or may not be the black sheep of the family.

NOTE: Reading STEELE RIDGE The Beginning is not necessary to understand the premise of the series.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date November 9, 2015

Her boots were made for walking…

Drifter Delaney Shields plans to breeze through Prophecy, Texas, before setting off on an around-the-world trip of a lifetime. She never expects to see sexy-as-sin Cal Maddox, the man she ran out on a decade ago. One look between them and their past attraction ignites, flaming hotter than ever. But acting on it would be disastrous because she’s not the sticking kind, and Cal has roots a mile deep.

Cal Maddox left the military only to find both the health of his dad and his hometown failing. When Delaney walks into his father’s custom boot shop, she spurs emotional memories and sexual fantasies Cal has no business indulging in. Especially once he realizes she’s the next Prophecy boot maker, the only person who can design custom cowboy boots with the power to change a person’s destiny. But if fanning those old flames will keep her in Prophecy, he’s willing to take the heat, even if it means keeping secrets and risking his heart again.

Duty and desire throw Cal and Delaney together, but will their feelings be strong enough to forge a new bond or will they destroy their second chance at love?

••••••••••••••

REVIEW: A LOVE TO LAST is the first installment in Kelsey Browning’s contemporary, adult PROPHECY OF LOVE ‘slightly paranormal’ romance series. This is Delaney Shields, and Cal Maddox’s story line.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Cal and Delaney) A LOVE TO LAST focuses on second chances – a second chance at love for Cal and Delaney, and a second chance for Prophecy, Texas-a small town crumbling under the weight of financial debt and a dependency upon a prophetic boot maker whose own life isn’t long for this world.

For several generations the Maddox family has been the ‘boot makers’ of legend: families would bring in their young children for a chance at a one of a kind leather book that prophesied their future. But Prophecy’s boot maker Whit Maddox is ill, and his replacement hasn’t been seen for close to ten years. Delaney Shields is Prophecy’s next boot maker (foretold by Whit Maddox himself) but Delaney left town years before in search of something else; something more than a prophesied boot maker; and a life that didn’t involve family and kids. But a return to Prophecy, Texas found Delaney pulled into the town’s emotional blackmail, and into the arms of the only man she has ever loved. What ensues is a rekindling of the relationship between Cal and Delaney, and Prophecy, Texas’s final attempts to breath life back into a dying town.

The relationship between Cal and Delaney is one of lost love; about a woman afraid to destroy a man’s heart and soul because of her inability to stay in one place for too long. Delaney’s past is shrouded in betrayal and heartbreak; her parent’s need to run and follow the next big thing has caught Delaney in a nightmare of her own making, and she isn’t willing to add more heartbreak to an already dying town. Cal’s love for Delaney has never waivered; he has held on to the belief that Delaney is the only woman he will ever love. The $ex scenes are seductive and intimate without the use of erotic, graphic imagery.

Now to backtrack: Delaney Shields is a drifter; a woman who cannot and will not remain in one place for very long. Her family history proves that she is incapable of commitment or falling in love. Delaney has booked a trip around the world, and with it she intends to leave all of Prophecy and the ‘prophecy’ behind. But with this comes attitude; a determination to run, and run fast; and a back and forth ideation about what it is she wants, and cannot have. She has told everyone she will not stay but Prophecy intends to tie down their prodigal daughter to keep their town alive and well. At times, Delaney is a difficult character to like or love; her need to escape doesn’t bode well for the people of Prophecy, Texas or the man who professes his love one last time.

The world building focuses on the small town of Prophecy, Texas: the people, the shops, the gossip and the magic. The tale of a prophecy boot maker foretelling the future is the staple and backdrop to Prophecy’s livelihood (and the story) -without the boot maker, people no longer visit Prophecy and the town is slowly succumbing to its’ own death. But saying that the ‘prophecy/Prophecy’ repetition felt overwhelming-the constant reminders made this reader want to run, and run fast at several points in the story.

A LOVE TO LAST is an interesting and entertaining storyline about betrayal and trust; letting go and moving forward; a slightly paranormal or ‘magical’ tale about a prophesied boot maker whose designs and craftsmanship speak of a future and a happily ever after. But not all prophecies speak of fairy tales and happily ever afters, and in this, there is something to be said about not knowing what the future has in store. The premise is engaging; the characters are colorful and real but, with small towns, comes small town attitudes and beliefs; the romance is slow to rebuild as Delaney continues to push away that man that she loves.

Kelsey Browning weaves a tale of magic and second chances; of romance and love; of prophecy and forgiveness. If you are a fan of small town romances with happily ever afters, then check out Kelsey Browning’s PROPHECY OF LOVE series.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date November 24, 2014

Ashton Davenport: Hot blonde. Old Money. Off-limits.

That’s how Mac McLaughlin sees her, anyway. And now that he’s enduring a temporary self-imposed exile in tiny Shelbyville, Texas, he’s seeing her way too often. Mac only wants to succeed as the contractor for the Lily Lake development in order to rebuild his reputation and return to Dallas, pronto. A sexy distraction like Ashton was not in the plans.

Mac McLaughlin: Hot builder. Cash poor. Hands-on.

Ashton kissed her trust fund goodbye and left her life as a society princess to prove she could make it on her own. Developing Lily Lake is her big chance, but it’s hard to stay focused working side-by-side with bossy, rough-around-the-edges Mac. Especially when he pulls off his shirt.

When the discovery of an endangered species derails the project, Mac can’t afford to stick around for a stalled job. His and Ashton’s explosive chemistry aside, he’s outta there…unless she can convince him that they just might be able to build something together.

••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: DESIGNED FOR LOVE is the fourth installment in Kelsey Browning’s contemporary, adult Texas Nights romance series focusing on the small town of Shelbyville, Texas. This is poor little rich girl/interior designer Ashton Davenport and construction foreman Michael ‘Mac’ McLaughlin’s storyline. DESIGNED FOR LOVE can be read as a stand alone. Some of the previous storyline characters, including Beck and Eden from Problems in Paradise (book 3) have small cameo roles throughout the novel.

Told from close third person (Ashton) point of view DESIGNED FOR LOVE focuses on Ashton Davenport-a young woman who walked away from her trust fund leaving the big city of Dallas, Texas behind to try and make it on her own. Born into wealth and expected to follow her family’s bidding, Ashton ventured out on her own to focus on a career in interior design. When Ashton’s grandmother offers Ashton a chance to oversee a new land development in Shelbyville, Ashton jumps at the opportunity only to discover that there are people willing to do just about anything to see the plans fail. Enter Mac McLaughlin, Ashton’s new general contractor and a man who hopes to overcome the failings of his past.

The relationship between Mac and Ashton is one of contempt and disdain. Mac is blinded by Ashton’s family connections and sees Ashton as a spoiled rich kid playing a game with other people’s lives. Mac needs this job opportunity to rid the demons from his past and Mac sees Ashton as a thorn in his chance at redemption. Their attraction to one another is immediate. Ashton is unaware as to why Mac’s feelings lean toward hate and scorn but as their relationship begins to build, the fall out from small town mentality will affect everything including Ashton’s future and Mac’s heart. The sex scenes are seductive, provocative and comedic-ever had sex in a hammock or with a small but terrifying dog nipping at your…um, butt?

The secondary characters include Ashton’s grandmother-a feisty woman who is willing to use any and all means at her disposal to get what she wants done. The townsfolk and surrounding population of Shelbyville see an environmental disaster in the making and attempts to stop the construction will push Ashton into the limelight and out of a job.

DESIGNED FOR LOVE is a romantic, wondrous and oft times comedic look at two people destined for one another but caught up in a game brought about a meddling but well meaning old lady. There are moments that will break your heart balanced by moments of humor and fun. Kelsey Browning’s TEXAS NIGHTS series is about family and love; letting go of the past; and acceptance in a small town not accustomed to change and growth.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date July 14, 2014

Eden Durant hasn’t always been Eden Durant. She’s made a fresh start in Shelbyville, Texas, far from her mother’s notoriety. Running the Paradise Garden Café is as much excitement as Eden wants—or it was, until she meets Beck Childress. Although he’s the one man who could expose her past, she’s willing to open up enough to see if he might be her future.

Chief Deputy Childress is determined to get to know the real Eden, when he isn’t busy cleaning up after the sheriff and running in the election to replace him. When several men fall sick after eating in Eden’s café, he investigates even as her mysterious past raises both his suspicions and his protective instincts.

As their relationship heats up, so do the pressures of Beck’s campaign. When Eden’s secrets are revealed, jeopardizing his dream of becoming sheriff, he’ll need to choose: serve and protect the town he loves or the woman who makes it home.

•••••••••••••••

REVIEW: PROBLEMS IN PARADISE is the third instalment in Kelsey Browning’s adult contemporary Texas Nights romance series focusing on the men and women of Shelbyville, Texas. This is Chief Deputy Beck Childress and café owner Eden Durant’s story. Although this is the third in the series, it can be read as a stand alone without too much difficulty. Some of the previous storyline characters play a secondary role and any information necessary from the previous storylines is revealed when needed.

The focus of the story is the building relationship between Beck and Eden, and the investigation into a series of poisonings at Eden’s Paradise Garden Café. With Eden the prime suspect, Beck struggles with his need to be objective while on the job and his need for the woman who calls to his soul. But someone is hoping to take Eden down and in doing so, compromises Beck’s run for the sheriff of Shelbyville Texas. It is a small town where everyone knows your business but in some cases, it is the past that comes back to destroy your life.

The relationship between Beck and Eden is sensual and seductive. The sex scenes are hot; definitely adult in nature. There is an immediate attraction between our couple and one that is not accepted by many of the town’s people including Beck’s recently relocated sister.

The secondary characters are colorful and drive a good portion of the storyline. Small town living is not for everyone especially when the town is run by people who refuse to move forward-out of the past. Beck and Eden will caught up in a power play for struggle and control-not of their making.

Kelsey Browning writes a storyline that invites the reader into a world of romance; where betrayal comes at the hand of family; and where love comes from an unexpected source.

Interview-RED

TRC: Hi Kelsey and welcome to The Reading Café. Congratulations on the release of PERSONAL ASSETS.

Kelsey: Thanks so much for having me!

TRC: We would like to start with some background information. Would you please tell us something about yourself?

Kelsey BrowningKelsey: Oh, that’s an open invitation for a girl from Texas who can talk your ear off. I’m a Virgo, have a psychological allergy to green peas and am raising a puppy for Canine Companions for Independence. (How’s that for brevity and sneaking in more than one thing??)

TRC: Your bio states that you have travelled all over the world. Which destination was your favorite ? Which destination was the least attractive or favorite? Why?

Kelsey: Wow – tough question. I tell people the most beautiful place I never knew I wanted to visit is Sri Lanka. The people are incredibly friendly and their country is gorgeous even after the tsunami in 2005. Last summer, we stayed at a guesthouse in Arugam Bay that had been almost wiped out in the storm and then rebuilt after.

Least favorite…probably Kuwait City. We were living in the Middle East at the time and Kuwait City was an even more even more stark landscape than the city where we lived. While in KC, we stayed in a hotel that had been completely bombed out in the first Gulf War. They had a glass case that held a huge shell casing, a melted telephone and other evidence of the bombing. Interesting, but eerie. Very eerie.

TRC: PERSONAL ASSETS is your latest release. Would you please tell us something about the book?

Personal AssetsKelsey: Personal Assets is a contemporary romance about a sex therapist who wants to shake things up around her small Texas town and a man who’s recently returned to his hometown to restore classic cars. Allie propositions Cameron to a no-strings affair, and he can’t believe the town’s princess would stoop to sleeping with the kid of the town drunk. But Allie is trying to find her inner bad girl, and in the process, finds love with a man who has to learn she doesn’t want him to take care of her.

TRC: How many books do you plan for the TEXAS NIGHTS series? Will any or all of the storyline characters interact with each successive novel?

Kelsey: There are four books in the Texas Nights series. I originally planned three, but a new heroine emerged from book two. Readers will be introduced to six of the main characters in Personal Assets. In Running the Red Light, readers will be introduced to Ashton Davenport and her hero. Of course, readers will see all the characters in each book, but the focus will be on the current hero and heroine. Readers can find out more about the other books in the Texas Nights series here.

TRC: What challenges or difficulties (e.g. logistical, research etc) did you encounter writing this particular storyline?

Kelsey: The biggest challenge I had at the time I first wrote Personal Assets (several years ago) was I was living out of the US in a Muslim country. If the country’s government considered a website too explicit, it would be blocked/censored from view. That sometimes made it hard to research sexual topics – LOL.

TRC: Are any of the characters or experiences based on events in real life? Or are they an amalgamation of many characters and your imagination?

Kelsey: Oh, I think our subconscious is always collecting and then developing characteristics based on what we’ve seen. We just don’t know it—and can’t always recognize it—on the surface. What I have found, however, is that my books have a common theme around reconciling yourself with home and homecoming. I’m originally from a small town in Texas and I have a real love/hate relationship with the place. I left for college when I was 18, and although I visited, I never lived there again. I think I’ve been trying to reconcile myself with my original home and my adult homes ever since.

TRC: If you could change something about yourself personal or professional, what would it be and why?

Kelsey: I’d wave a magic wand and give myself a big old helping of patience.

TRC: Who or what has been the biggest influence in your life and why?

Kelsey: Too many people to name, probably. But here are a few:
My mom – everything happens for a reason
My dad – you can do anything you want
My husband – always find a reason to say yes
My sister – we’re stronger than anyone can imagine

TRC: Is there a question that you would like to be asked in an interview, but nobody has asked? If so, ask away!

Kelsey: Yow – I used to ask this all the time when I interviewed people. It’s harder when it’s turned back on you. How about What did you love most about writing the Texas Nights series? Characters, characters, characters! I’m a totally character-driven writer. And shh…don’t tell anyone I said this, but secondary characters are often more fun to write than the hero and heroine because the author doesn’t have to be so darn careful with character arc and relationship arc. It’s easier to just let things fly with the secondaries!

TRC: What five things would you like to accomplish in the next ten years?

Kelsey:
Write and publish another 25+ books
Live overseas again
See my son off into his own fabulous world
Become a better storyteller
Return to public speaking

TRC: What are your thoughts on book reviews-good or bad?

Kelsey: I think reviews allow authors to glean important tidbits about what readers love about their work. They can also discover what’s missing in their writing. But I think an author can’t take every word to heart. Not all books are made for all readers. I have to keep that in mind.

TRC: Many authors bounce ideas with family and friends, as well as other authors. With whom do you bounce ideas and information?

Kelsey: I have a plotting group—made up of authors Tracey Devlyn, Adrienne Giordano, and editor and all-around-girl-Friday, Theresa Stevens. I’d be lost without them. When I need technical help—like how to get out of a locked storage closet door—I go to my husband, who’s an engineer. He rocks at that kind of stuff.

TRC: If you could be a contestant on a television ‘reality’ program, which show would you like to be a participant and why?

Kelsey: Yikes, is there a reality show about drinking coffee and wearing PJ bottoms? If so, that’s the one I want. Don’t know that I could do it, but Tech Guy (my husband) and Smarty Boy (my son) have a yen to go on Survivor.

TRC: On what are you currently working?

Kelsey: I’m currently working on edits for Problems in Paradise—the third book in the Texas Nights series, writing Designs to Die For (#4) and working on the release of In For a Penny, a humorous women’s fiction/cozy suspense I co-wrote with the amazing Nancy Naigle. It’s the first book in The Granny Series and will be out in November. Here’s the tagline, just to give readers a taste of that series: They’re just like Dirty Harry—only over 50, female and from the South!

TRC: Would you like to add anything else?

Kelsey: I love to hear from readers, so feel free to shoot me a note at Kelsey@KelseyBrowning.com!

LIGHTNING ROUND
Favorite Food – Is Chardonnay a food?
Favorite Dessert – Just one? Fine, tiramisu
Favorite TV Show – Castle
Last Movie You Saw – Despicable Me
Dark or Milk Chocolate – Dark. Oh, who am I kidding?? BOTH!

Kelsey: Thanks so much for y’all’s hospitality!
