REVIEW

5 out of 5 for this reader folks!

OH ME OH MY Marni Mann.  I am so LOVING this series and you totally left me lying like a big pile of gush with this latest release!

This review of Unblocked is for the third episode of this novella serial series.  In the last episode we were left with Derek and Frankie realizing that there was no future to be together, and with Frankie seeing a woman leaving Derek’s place (a woman that is quite significant to her past relationship with her ex).  Both try to remain professional but when you know what hits the fan, Derek realizes that one night will never be enough, and now he wants to lay claim on Frankie.  Boy does he ever lay claim !  LOL

We learn the devastating history that Frankie has been living with and her ex is trying to jump back in the picture .. Derek will be having NONE of that.  In the midst of all of this, Frankie is trying to do her best to deliver her “A” game selling Derek’s property, Derek is setting up some kind of revenge on a rival and trying to keep tabs on Frankie and her ability to run away.

We are left with a major cliffhanger … BAD BAD Marni (LOVE LOVE LOVE it .. WINK) and I am so excited for the continuation of this story.  Super HOT scenes that have topped the first two episodes, and another round of the blow up chemistry between our leads, I love the set up for this story as much as I love the rest of the yummy that goes along with it!

HAPPY READING!

“If you want me, if you want this, then you have to tell me. And it has to be now.” I looked at her wrist. The bracelet she knew I liked was wrapped around her delicate skin; it was the one I had once asked her to wear. She had worn it today and that told me everything I needed to know. “Because Frankie, I don’t believe you really want things between us to end.” Her cheeks darkened and her pupils began to dilate with need. “If you tell me you don’t want me, I’ll…” She had to know I would respect her despite what I wanted. “…I’ll put you down and I’ll leave your condo. What happened between us won’t affect what we have professionally. I promise. But if you want me, then—”

Review:

5 out of 5 for this reader folks!

I HATE serial series!
I LOVE serial series!
I SUPER LOVE THIS serial series!

Ok, so I admit when I read a serial series that I wait for the entire series to be completed and then marathon read it so any cliffhangers do not leave me hanging for long .. BUT .. when you are reviewing a series as it is being released you certainly do not have that option … so here I am hanging super high from this cliff, cursing Marni Mann and eagerly anticipating the next episode.  SIGH!  LOL

Unblocked is Part Two of Marni Mann‘s serial series call Timber Towers.  It is the continuation of Derek and Frankie’s story and let me tell you, my e-reader was steaming (or maybe that was me .. WINK).  Frankie is the top real estate agent in her city and is about to land a major contract of Derek’s building.  These two have instant chemistry, and severe attraction between them, but both have concerns with regards to keeping their relationship strictly professional.  Well one taste is all it takes for the personal and professional lines to become blurred.

This episode was a little but more revealing.  We are being set up for a juicy revenge plot, a past Frankie cannot seem to get away from and a massive battle between heart and will.  You know that Derek may believe in black and white thinking (one night Derek .. really???), but when it comes to Frankie there is a whole lot of shade.

Major cliffhanger with this one and I CAN’T WAIT for the next!

HAPPY READING! 🙂

“I held her wrists above her head and leaned down so she could feel my words, not just hear them. “I give you what I want, when I want – my fingers, my mouth, my tongue…” My hand dropped to my zipper. I fisted the crotch of my jeans. “Even my fucking cock. Understood?”
I expected her to pull back, but her focus seemed to soften as her eyes traveled down my stomach and settled on my hand. I released the bulge so she could get a better look at my dick.
She licked her lips. “Got it.”
I knelt on the bed and straddled her body, holding her hands against the headboard. I had made a special request for this bed, I wanted something wooden, with slats on the headboard, carved and sanded, so the finish was smooth on all four sides. I knew she could handle the rubbing, but I didn’t want her skin cut or splintered.
“You’re not going to tie me up…”
I weaved the flannel around her wrists and secured the knots to the headboard. “I’m not?” The shirt was tight enough to prevent her from moving, but loose enough to allow circulation.
She glanced at my handiwork. “You warned me that you would do this…I never thought you really would.”
“Don’t ever doubt me, Frankie. I always keep my promises.”

REVIEW

4 out of 5 for this reader folks!

I have been on a serial novella kick lately and I am pleased to add Unblocked by Marni Mann to this list. Unblocked is the first novella and basically the establishment for the plot line. It is typical to Marni’s writing (if you haven’t read her previous books, do yourself a favour and check them because she will blow your socks off) as it sucks you right in and before you know it the read if over. She writes hot, intelligent characters that compliment and push each other. There is always a layer of intrigue and I know her as the writer that drops a “WTF just happened” (in a awesome way) moment in her stories.

Derek Block is in the process of building Timber Towers and is looking to hire on a professional real estate agent. Frankie Jordan just so happens to be rated the top real estate agent and also the heir to her father’s company. Both are seriously good at what they do and take it seriously. Lines are not to crossed during business … well until they are that is …..

Frankie is about to land the contract for Timber Towers which will serve her well as she is coming off a bad break up and feeling a little lackluster. She also has to prove to daddy dearest that she can handle being the CEO is his company. Derek is dominant, unapologetic, animalistic, and makes a lady want to … yah well … you know! 😉 LOL He is also plotting some kind of revenge. These two cannot seen to resist the strong pull they have towards each other, but will business rules sway their decisions???

This story is long from over and I cannot wait for the next serial to see where Marni is going to take us!

HAPPY READING! 🙂

REVIEW

5 out of 5 for this reader folks!

Stripped to the bone, raw and emotionally exhausted. Just a few words to describe a Marni Mann experience. There are only a handful of authors that I have read that are capable of leaving me so completely spent but so satisfied .. well folks .. Marni Mann is one of them! Every single book of hers that I have read has taken me by surprise in one way or another and this read is no exception.

The second book of her Bar Harbor series, Pulled Within is about Rae and Hart. We met Rae in the first book and I was pleased that she was getting her story as she is a character that you knew had a deep past. Scarred in more ways than one, she has demons upon demons, is down on her luck, has an ex with a new love and just trying to keep it together day to day. Then another ex and the contributor to her pain comes back into the picture. This time however, he wants to help her heal.

Hart is another deep character but with him comes retribution and light. He knows how he contributed to Rae’s pain and does everything in his power to knock down her defences and force her to trust. He is patient and kind but also gives Rae the kind of love she needs .. be it sweet and tough. He brings reality and truth to the table and while he appreciates how wrong he did by her, he forces them to move forward.

If you are looking for a sweet, kind read you will find that here! You will also find heart break, angst, abuse, language etc … you will walk away from a well thought out, perfectly paced novel that you will not forget. Be prepared to go on one heck of a ride though, and you may also find yourself relating to these characters in more ways than one.

Well done Marni Mann. You consistently deliver, and just when I think I have you figured out, you go and take me in a different direction. You are one talented lady and you sure know how to use your words!

REVIEW
5 out of 5 for this reader folks!

I had to sit on this review for a couple of days after finishing this book.  I am still struggling to find the right words that will provide this book with the justice if deserves.  It’s a haunting, angst driven, captivating story that just seemed to easily flip from page to page.  I was never on the edge of my seat in anticipation, my heart didn’t race!  WOW .. how can a 5 star read be a 5 star without all that??  It just .. well … WAS!

The last time I reviewed a Marni Mann book, she smacked me hard with twists and turns.  So when I picked up Pulled Beneath, I found myself bracing for what I thought would be her trade mark!  Well Marni Mann, you are unpredictable, haunting, captivating, allusive, alluring, emotional and about as raw as it gets.  You didn’t sprinkle fairy dust.  You simply told a heartbreaking story of true human character.

Pulled Beneath by Marni Mann is her first book in Bar Harbor Series.  From the beginning you are caught in it’s web.  Our story begins with our leading lady Drew coming upon an absolute horror and what will be a forever life changing event.  While opting to hang with her “hook up buddy” instead of staying with her folks, Drew saved her life.  Finding her parents murdered leads to so much survivors guilt and uncovers lies, deception and perhaps a light filled future (yup, Marni is the epitome of OXYMORON).

Months after this tragedy, Drew’s only solace is in the water doing laps.  Here, she can quiet her mind.  She also has given up her passion of photography which for her was her reason to breath.  After discovering she has inherited an estate, she decides to visit it and prepare to sell it.  This is when she meets her fellow pain drowning leading guy Saint.  Saint comes with a whole lot of baggage, but somehow these two bond through this experience and help each other take that one more step to live and continue on.

Seriously .. so SO much more to this story and I simply cannot do it justice in a review without spoiling it for you.  This is typical I am learning of Marni Mann!  She has so many complex layers to her story that you cannot reveal one without the other.  I can’t tell you what happens in this story, but I will tell you, if you open your mind and your heart, you will be taken on one heck of a ride.  If you like to FEEL when you read .. and I mean REALLY FEEL, this is the author for you!

I’m sorry, I feel like I am not leaving you with much to go on here!  If you enjoy the New Adult genre, you will LOVE this book!  I am looking forward to your next one Marni, and I love that you leave me stripped after I read one of your books.  Quite frankly, I am anxious to meet again! 🙂

Can they overcome the destruction of their clouded pasts, or will the revelation of more painful, shocking secrets pull them back into the shadows?

REVIEW

5 out of 5 for this reader folks!

Seductive Secrecy by Marni Mann is the highly anticipated sequel to Seductive Shadows (I had done a review for this book a few months back) and it was an enjoyable closure to many questions I know I had left unanswered and the beautiful continuation of a couple who captivated me thoroughly. If you remember my review on the first book, I used many oxymoron terms to describe that read. I was left completely gobsmacked and wondering WTF!!!!!!! Well Marni delivered yet again revealing more gobsmacking moments but this time I felt a little more ready for them. LOL Compared to the first book this had more of a subdued feel, meaning I felt settled reading the pages not wondering where this story was going. I knew that I was going to be reacquainted with some seriously messed up characters and I knew one way or another someone has to pay for the horror that was revealed in the first book.

I am trying to be careful with revealing much of the story here as part of what was so amazing about this story line (books 1 and 2) was being thrown a curve ball that wasn’t predictable in the least. The secrets revealed are so awful and fascinating. Just incase I don’t do such a good job with revealing, if you are totally invested in reading the first book, please stop reading this review, go back and buy the first book, read it, then come back and read this review! You’ve been warned. LOL

Okay so, Cameron and Charlie are trying to make this relationship work despite the fact that they are both completely messed up because of their pasts. Both are successful artists, both use sex as a release from their emotional pain (man these two fire up those sheets, and limo and public venue and ….. ya you get the picture ..lol) and both have come to discover the other is their rock and reason to live life to the fullest. When more secrets are revealed (really Marni, you got me again as I didn’t see that coming) they once again have to face one another and decide what they are both willing to live with. Charlie has a past that Cameron is forced to really face, and he ends up going through his own personal hell trying to decide how much is too much to stay with Charlie. Charlie also has people from her past that she needs to face and reunite with to close a frightful door in order to open a happy window.

During this book, while yes feeling subdued, I was beginning to feel a little unsettled as I was flipping the pages. Certainly Marni Mann wouldn’t let the bad people get away with all??? People who had committed serious crimes in the first book had somehow escaped punishment and that didn’t sit well with me. I should of known this author would not just take care of business but would do so in a seriously creative manner.

I am having trouble with this review as I really feel like I haven’t left you with much. Sorry if this review seems to be repetitive, not giving any meat to the story and truthfully it is meant to read that way. Again, what I love about this story was the suspense and the unsettled feel of “what is going on here?”. There is no way I am ruining any moment for anyone indulging in this series. 😉

Hats off Marni Mann, amazing conclusion. I am going to dive into your other books as I just adore your writing style. 🙂

HAPPY READING!

Marni Mann – Seductive Shadows -Review, Guest Post and Giveaway

Marni Mann – Guest Post and Giveaway – Seductive Shadows Review

Guest post-White and Red

Before signing with my publisher, a friend from high school, who knew I was querying my first novel, asked if she could interview me on her blog. One of the questions she asked was, “What do you like to write about?” My response was, “It would be easier to tell you what I don’t like to write…I haven’t tried erotica. I don’t know if I could be that honest with a mainstream audience.”

That interview was over two years ago. In the years that have followed, I’ve explored different levels of darkness with my writing. Part of that journey has included taking my readers to uncomfortable places and testing their limits. At one time, I feared pushing those limits. I’ve aged since then, I’ve matured, and now I embrace those fears. I’ve challenged myself to constantly create new ways to trump my previous attempts.

Sex, naturally, became my next challenge.

It’s an act that most of us have experienced. It’s layered and some of those tiers can be extremely dim, gritty, even. But before I delved into those depths, I had to identify the angle of intimacy that I wanted to take. How could I channel the darkness and keep the story erotic and not abusive?

Something that most of us can agree on is it’s much more comforting to be with a man you’ve already been with than a complete stranger. Granting access to your skin can be considered a privilege. But when the exchange of money enters the equation, it doesn’t necessarily feel like such a privilege anymore. That doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy it. But what that does mean is the darkness isn’t defined by what occurred, it’s who it occurred with and where it took place.

Most women crave a man with experienced fingers, a man who isn’t afraid to explore and please. Defining those men was my challenge and so was creating a woman who could be aroused in that type of environment. So I added masks, costumes, titillating backdrops. I created an adult playground, and I’m just as much of a spectator as my readers are.

Within the shadows of each page, scenes that are described in intimate detail, there are glimpses of things I find attractive, faces that captivate me, atmospheres that drive and stimulate my muse. It’s the most honest piece of work I’ve ever created. Sex was much darker than I had anticipated, but I hope to explore it again.

Review:

5 out of 5 for this reader folks!

What a disturbingly, creepy, intoxicating, messed up, addictive and intriguing read.  Yes that is suppose to sound like a whopper of an oxymoron.  This entire book felt like an oxymoron .. so wrong it was right!  I have just finished it and I am GOBSMACKED and left thinking .. WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!  YET .. I am feeling SATISFIED and MOVED (be that both positively and negatively).

So .. Seductive Shadows … uummm … Marni Mann where have you been hiding from me and why haven’t I read any of your books before???

So …. SEDUCTIVE SHADOWS!  LOL  Best described as a thrilling erotica/new adult although while yes there is erotica, it is not the main component of this book.  Actually the main component is the main character and the building of her story!  We meet our leading lady Charlie right from the get go.  Charlie hasn’t and isn’t living the charmed life.  She is a loner, who has grown up without a dad, taking care of of her abusive alcoholic mother while trying to keep her head above water.  Throughout this book we are taken into Charlie’s past via flashbacks of her happier (and not so happier) life moments that include her best friend Emma (and the wonderful relationship she developed with her) and disastrous living situation with her mother.  Presently, Charlie is mourning loss in many ways and finds escape in two things.  Her ART and SEX.

The timing couldn’t have been better when Charlie is approached by “The Mansion” to make money by entering a world that makes it all too easy to forget her life.  She becomes Cee who is buffed and primped and turned into one fantasy after another for many a client while engaging in wonderful sex that allows her to be free.  She is part of a sensual, seductive world that promises the love and sense of family she so desperately requires.  Only ….  is “The Mansion” what is seems to be???  I don’t think so …..

Charlie also is enrolled in art classes where she meets Cameron (a fellow successful artist) who, with her professor, begins to show Charlie that her life is full of promise and that she can find the same satisfaction in her art as she can with her clients.  She soon is questioning her current choices while embarking on new journeys and personal growth.

Before you know it, Charlie’s journey is not what it seems and she is thrown so many curve balls, be them positive and negative that I am surprised she is actually sane by the end of this book.  What road(s) does she travel??  Does she make the right decisions with regards to her profession and does she have a chance at true love???  Will she be PERMITTED to live HER life???

Seductive Shadows is a dirty, gritty beautiful book that left me feeling very sensual and seduced at times, while fulfilling the need to love a character involved in a great story.  There are twists and turns I didn’t see coming.  This is a heavier read that made me question where it was going too many times to count.  I LOVED THAT!

So looking forward to diving into more of Marni Mann’s books!

HAPPY READING! 🙂
